Lesbiangaybisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.

U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Same-sex sexual activity has been legal in Alabama since 2003, when the United States Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas struck down all state sodomy laws.
Montgomery has a long history of being a  gay friendly resort and in downtown we can find a few gay friendly bars as well as Club 322 or  Green Lantern are  the most famous gay place in Montgomery, Alabama.

This hotel was a great value. In addition to breakfast, they had an evening happy hour that served food as well as beer and wine. — I did not need t go out to dinner, which was great because I was tired! The parking cost extra, but it was secure, which was especially important to me bc I was road tripping and I had a lot sentimental stuff packed into my car. Most of all, the location cannot be beat. You can organize a self-guided walking tour of many historic sites located in downtown Montgomery.

You are walking distance from the Rosa Parks Museum & Library, Greyhound Bus station, one of the stops along the Freedom Ride; the Civil Rights Memorial & Museum; Southern Poverty Law Center; the White House of the Confederacy where Jefferson Davis lived, the current state capitol, and the Dexter Street Baptist Church where Martin Luther King preached, as well as the Legacy Museum among other sites.

All historic sites a block or two away. Great location, across from convention center and three blocks from State Capitol. Good restaurants all around.

I traveled with 8 friends and spent three nights at this hotel as we visited civil rights sites in Montgomery. All of us were really surprised by this Staybridge. Most notable was how incredibly warm, welcoming, and friendly the staff were. Somehow they manage to create a sense of community. So instead of the usual sterile afternoon happy hour the lobby was filled with hotel guests happily sitting and talking, having a glass of wine, and the free dinner (offered three nights a week). The breakfasts were the best we had ever had at a hotel of this sort.

Out of habit, some of us went out to breakfast the first morning because we couldn’t imagine there would be anything good to eat in the hotel. We were wrong, After that, all of us ate breakfast there — fresh made fruit salad, really good oatmeal, a different breakfast entrée each day (some better than others, but all better than at similar hotels), hard boiled eggs, really good yogurt with lots of toppings to mix in, etc. The rooms were comfortable, and the hotel’s location cannot be beat. It was walking distance to everything we did in the city. Kudos to the manager and his staff.

Great location for seeing historical sites in Montgomery. Access to the Legacy Museum and National Memorial was important to our tour group. Many nearby options for food available for large groups. Will stay again.

Had a terrific stay at this charming hotel in downtown Montgomery. The rooms on the upper floors are particularly lovely with views of the river. The hotel is within walking distance of important historical sites and near good restaurants. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly.

This hotel was near many historical Civil Rights sites or monuments. Clean, spacious rooms, friendly staff, near restaurants, shops and bars. Would stay here again! Walking distance to many things to do and see.

I booked this hotel based on its location to the sites we were interested in visiting. There was easy access to restaurants and historical sites. Traffic patterns were not challenging and allowed for easy driving in an unfamiliar setting. The hotel itself was quite modern and very well maintained from guest rooms to complimentary breakfast .

The staff was very personable and professional. The area appeared very safe as there was a police car presence a few steps away. Even though valet parking is offered for $12.50 per day, since it was the weekend , we used the free meter street parking with worked fine. I highly recommend this hotel . We were very, very satisfied.

Hotel is right downtown Montgomery. You can park your car and venture out on foot. The hotel is an older downtown building with character. The rooms are nicely appointed. Beautiful lobby, friendly staff. We went to the minor league ballgame and it was no more than a five minute walk. Great location! We also walked up to the capital and explored some historic sites.

We stayed here for two nights & it was wonderful. It was very clean, comfy & the staff were so nice & helpful. The day my family & I checked out we wanted to visit some museums & see the history of Montgomery. The museums were all closed bcus of the virus, but the guy who was working at the front desk was super helpful & told us about the “historical trail” that’s downtown.
I wish I knew his name bcus thank you! Downtown Montgomery was great & full of history. This hotel is only about 9 miles from downtown & it’s located in a really nice, not so busy area of Montgomery which we also really liked, yet still very close to the interstate. Overall, our room & the hotel overall was super cute, modern, & most importantly it was very clean.

he hotel was very neat and clean outside and inside the lobby area. The staff were very polite and helpful.

The room: we got a double Queen which was very roomy, neat and clean. The kitchen area was clean and a good size for what we needed. The bathroom had big fluffy towels and the shower was clean. However, there was a bottle of contact lens cleaner behind the toilet. There was a dog next door that woke us up the first morning which I assume the hotel was pet friendly. There was no safe in the room which was disappointing but not a deal breaker.

Breakfast area: the area was not laid out well because there was only 1 waffle maker and the line was long. Because the condiments for the waffles was in the same spot it caused a bottleneck. Highly suggest to #1 get a second waffle maker then #2 move the condiments for the waffles to a separate location so others can begin to make theirs then move on. The coffee was scorched after having to wait awhile for someone to bring out more. The food was ok, the meat (bacon) was scarce, and the grits were gone and not refilled during the morning rush.

Overall, the stay was good. I’d skip the breakfast and stick to just the hotel stay. Again, friendly staff and nice rooms but the breakfast needs work. Thank you.

Everything about this hotel was GREAT!!! Front-desk staff possibly the nicest of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and facility was clean, well-organized, and attractive. HIGHLY recommend this hotel – they have great lobby areas to hang-out at, as well as outdoor grills you can use, a great breakfast buffet in the morning, and good free coffee in lobby + keurig coffee in rooms as well. Rooms even have a full (small) kitchen with fridge, microwave, dish washer, etc.

This is a new property, clean, bright, modern near Eastchase shopping area.

Suite: nice size for 2, maybe 3, well-appointed with kitchenette (full fridge, microwave, cook top), ample desk and closet space.

Bathroom: Small vanity, minimal storage, plenty of towels, good lighting. Decent water pressure. Good AC.

Bed: ok comfort and ok pillows, -very- rough linens.

Sofa: 2-person size, burlap type upholstery, large wall mounted TV viewed from both l/r and bedroom.

Sleep quality: poor on weekend night due to excessive noise til after 1 a.m. (thin walls, doors slamming). Good sleep after weekend crowd cleared.

Breakfast: standard fare with variety of hot and cold choices; however on weekend breakfast area is chaotic, overrun with families, large groups, kitchen unable to keep up.

Pros–
Good value, good location.
Nice size room
Clean, new, modern
Nice outdoor areas: pool and seating area
Good breakfast
Friendly, helpful staff.
