Guide to Gay Friendly Hotel in Lisbon Portugal (2024 Updated)

Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge.  With  new gay friendly hotel Lisbon opening the city is becoming a new friendly gay destination in Europe. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.

Rainbow PRIDE Lisbon is a peaceful march of LGBT people and their relatives and friends, which combines social and political protest with entertainment such as live concerts. It takes place every year in the month of June in Lisbon the main destination of Portugal. Like most countries in Western Europe the  city have many gay bars, clubs and gay friendly hotels.

Consider this your open invitation to pack your bags and find Lisbon City Center hotels that are members of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association on Expedia. Staying in this historical area will give you access to its local art scene and shops.

Lisbon is probably best known for its colonialist history, ornate architecture and tradition of Fado music. But some of its best features are in the everyday – spectacular hilltop vistas in Alfama or at St. George’s Castle, pleasant year-round weather and friendly locals.

The Late Birds Lisbon is Lisbon’s first gay urban resort: A place to hang out and relax, a place where gay people can come with friends and stay, play, eat, relax and revive. Just sit, talk and make new friends in our UV-treated pool, fire-side lounge and dining area. Centrally located in Lisbon, you’ll be steps away from gay bars, restaurants, entertainment and beach transportation.

Perfectly set in a reconstructed 14th century home in the best area of the city, The Late Birds is the quintessential urban sanctuary boasting a small scale resort like feel that offers every amenity one would expect to find at any world class luxury hotel. Guests will experience the perfect marriage of sleek modern design and old world charm. Whether you are a foodie seeking local “insider” culinary experiences, a tourist looking to explore and discover Lisboa’s rich history, a night life adventurous or all of the above.

The Late Birds puts you on the edge of it all. Guest services never failed to impress always making the best recommendations and always willing to go above and beyond. Wind down each day in the private courtyard by the pool with a craft cocktail surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens or relax with an in-room massage. In my opinion, there is no other place to stay in Lisbon. Dining is not full service but the breakfast served each morning was exceptional. With so many restaurant options just steps away, there was no need for in-house dining for lunch and dinner. The late birds is the perfect place to stay for small, groups of friends, couples and solo travelers alike.

The rooms are enormous, comfortable bed, great water pressure, and the common spaces were chill and had a good vibe to hang out in. The pool is a great little retreat in the middle of the city. And the location is ideal for going out – either for touristy stuff during the day or partying at night.

The garden is a tranquil place to relax after a long day exploring Lisbon.

The breakfast is superb and I looked forward to it every morning delicious assortment of food and great home baked cake every day especially the banana cake was scrumptious.

The staff were very friendly and approachable.

2. Feels Like Home Bica Prime Suites – Gay Hotels Lisbon

Feels Like Home Bica Prime Suites is located in the historical centre of Lisbon, within the famed Bica neighbourhood. The building which was an art gallery since the fifties, was refurbished in the beginning of 2017.

The comfortable rooms feature a rainfall shower, free toiletries, hair dryer, air conditioning, desk and a flat-screen TV. Free WiFi is available and the cosy terrace outside is ideal for warm evenings. Some of the rooms offer a view overlooking the garden.

We welcome you to Feels Like Home Bica Prime Suites. Used to be a gallery for the Society of Portuguese Printmakers since the fifties, this building was then dedicated to the printmaking of works of art. Now the traces of their work are noticeable here and there. Nestled in the iconic neighbourhood of Bica, we welcome you to our home.

The hotel itself is quiet, but the streets outside not necessarily- this part of Lisbon is full of young people spending evenings and nights in numerous bars, clubs and on the streets- but it is the part of specific Lisbon atmosphere, if you liked it. If you don’t have too heavy luggage you can reach the hotel by metro ( Baixa-Chiado station and then 5 minutes walking a little bit uphill).

The hotel is located very close to the centre, and also there is yellow tram nr 28 passing nearby, so you can go to visit Alfama without walking (although I strongly recommend a walk).

This is a small hotel (about 12 rooms). Once you are there the location is great – it is in amongst many bars and restaurants and is close to many of the main parts of Lisbon. It is not easy to find but a taxi driver should be able to get you there.

Lovely room with excellent shower. Breakfast is served in a beautifully decorated room with food options laid out on some of the old printing machinery. Orange juice of high quality plus a good selection of pastries, cereals, ham and cheese. You can order fried or scrambled eggs. Hotel feels very secure and there is someone on duty to help you 24 hours a day.

Hotel is central and yet tucked away in side street. It has a small terrace garden which is useful to have in fine weather if your taking a break from walking but still want to be outside. The terrace is directly accessible from certain rooms. Room sizes are very adequate and bathrooms have good sized showers.

The breakfast consisted of hard boiled eggs, a variety of breads and pastries, and cheeses and meats. Everything again was simple and elegant.

The breakfast was good; similar to the other hotel breakfasts we had in Portugal. There was orange juice, coffee, tea, usually a very good pastry, fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, jams, and they will make eggs to order if you ask. The bread is always delicious. They did not have anything gluten free in the way of bread or pastries.

4.  Hotel ibis Lisboa Saldanha 2* – Gay Friendly Hotel Lisbon

Gay Friendly Hotel Lisbon

Offering an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, this Ibis hotel features sunny rooms and a 24-hour bar and snack service. The Saldanha Metro Station is a 5-minute walk away from the property.

Including air conditioning, all elevator-accessible rooms at Lisboa Saldanha have a TV with cable and satellite channels. Each bathroom has a shower and a hairdryer. There is a 24-hour reception.

The spacious breakfast room adjoins Ibis Lisboa Saldanha’s bar, where a variety of international drinks are served. Portuguese eateries and intercontinental restaurants are situated within a 5-minute walk.

The Ibis Lisboa Saldanha hotel is located in the centre of the city, in the Saldanha business district and near Marques De Pombal. Only 15 minutes from Lisbon Airport and 10 minutes from the historic city centre, nightspots and the ports, the hotel is ideal for weekend visits as well as holiday and business stays.

Great location in Saldanha. 5 minutes walk to metro and in 15 minutes you are in city centre or airport. Parking entry/ exit is very tight and steep.

The room is clean, if a bit small, with a spotlessly clean private bathroom. The A/C worked very well, and the mattress was very comfortable – we slept very well. There is a flat screen TV on the wall, with plenty of channels, in many languages. Also has both BBC and CNN.

Turn either right or left out of the front door, and you will find ATM’s about a block away. Turn right, and walk about a block, past the ATM; and you will find a large Continente supermarket. The Post Office is right across the street, Plenty of restaurants and shops in the area.

This hotel offers very good service and accommodation at a very favorable rate. The staff is young and, perhaps, inexperienced but they try very hard and almost invariably meet the requests of their guests. The rooms – at least ours – are very small and a bit spartan. In exchange for lower rates expect to receive fewer of the amenities. Often, of course, amenities provide by more up-scale facilities are largely “for show” and not especially needed. Though small, the rooms were immaculate and the maid service deserves special praise (and I healthy tip)! The location within a block of one of Lisbon’s delightful “squares” means there is good shopping and excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk. And the variety of cuisines – Indian to traditional Portuguese – make dining nearby easy and varied.

How much does a room costs at Hotel ibis Lisboa Saldanha?

Prices start 90$/night for Standard Double Room.

This room features a modern décor and air conditioning. It comes with flat-screen cable TV. The bathroom includes a hairdryer.

5. My Story Hotel Tejo 3*  – Gay Friendly Hotel Lisbon

My Story Hotel Tejo
My Story Hotel Tejo

Set in the heart of the Baixa, My Story Hotel Tejo is a creative renovation of an historic building. It is in a prime location within Lisbon’s historic downtown, at just 300 m from Rossio and a 9-minute walk from Commerce Square, which overlooks the Tagus River.

Rooms at My Story Hotel Tejo are decorated in light yellows, grey and greens, with vintage armchairs and wooden headboards. Cable TV, minibar and a private bathroom are featured in each guest room. Also available for booking is a 1-bedroom apartment, equipped with a kitchen and a private bathroom, situated at a 5-minute walk from the hotel’s main building.

Inaugurated in April 2018, the MY STORY HOTEL TEJO with 135 rooms, located in a 19th-century building, bring elegance, comfort, modernity and design spread over six floors of charm and history inherent to its prime location – near Praça da Figueira, – one of the most famous and historic squares of Lisbon in Downtown Lisbon or “Baixa” and between in the typical neighborhoods of Mouraria, Alfama and Bairro Alto.

Close to everything that should be visited in Lisbon: The Castelo de São Jorge, Terreiro do Paço the square that welcome you the river, Rua Augusta and Chiado – poet Fernando Pessoa’s favorite place, where you cannot leave without having “a bica” (an expresso) in the terrace of A Brasileira, where the writer is immortalized by a statue.

The location was great. It was within walking distance from pretty much everywhere we wanted to go.

he hotel is located very near a plaza with a great and vibrant market. It is also very near both the trolley and bus stops and an easy walk to the train station to catch the train to Cascais (40 minute ride and a must visit town). It is also surrounded by shops and restaurants and just a few steps to the pedestrian-only streets leading to the river, just through the old arch. It’s an easy walk to Lisbon’s “Champs Elysee” as well, so it’s really a perfect location for people watching, exploring and dining.

The room  is  very clean, very modern and fine as we were really only there for sleeping, and sleeping was great, the room had two full-sized beds and when combined, made for a large, very comfortable king. The bath was very modern and the walk-in shower was terrific.

The hotel staff were uniformly wonderful. Thoughtful, helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly.
I would definitely recommend My Story Tejo to other visitors & gay couples to Lisbon.

Excellent central location with bars and restaurants literally on the doorstep. Very handy for the old town and castle as well.

Bring your walking shoes to Lisbon ! Its quite hilly , and whilst you can get the trams around, it’s a lovely walk up to the castle, and most city centre spots are walkable from this hotel
– Loads of bars/shops/restaurants in walking distance, barrio alto/chiado is a 15 min walk, but watch for the steps if you go up them! Lots of bars and restaurants up here, lots of choice.
– The food is great in Lisbon, but check out Time out market, you will be spoilt for choice.
– Lisbon is very clean and seemed fairly safe as we were out late a few evenings.

How much does a room costs at My Story Hotel Tejo?

Prices start 90$/night for Double Room.  The One-Bedroom Apartment is 140$/night with breakfast included
