2. Ecolodge La Estancia 3* – Eco Friendly Lodge Bolivia

Ecolodge La Estancia
Ecolodge La Estancia

Offering 15 ecological cottages built with local materials on pre-columbian agricultural terraces, Ecolodge La Estancia offers accommodation overlooking Titicaca lake.

Built with mud bricks, stone and straw, each cottage is equipped with a passive solar heating system and a private bathroom. In addition, each cottage offers panoramic views of Titicaca lake, the moon island and the Andes mountain range.

A buffet breakfast and a set meal for dinner are included daily.

Ecolodge La Estancia also has a restaurant and bar on site, where guests will be able to savour local dishes and drinks while soaking up the undisturbed views of the lake.

Set on a terraced hillside, this relaxed, remote eco lodge overlooking Lake Titicaca and the Andean mountains is 1 km from Yumani Bay. It uses solar panels and water recycling.

The down-to-earth cottages with adobe walls and thatched roofs feature lake and mountain views. All come with snug dining areas and en suite bathrooms.

Breakfast and dinner are free. An unfussy restaurant and a modest bar offer lake and mountain views. There’s also a greenhouse.

Ecolodge “La Estancia” gets its name from the small town of the same name in which it is located. “La Estancia” is part of the community Yumani, located in the southern part of the Island of the Sun. Our eco-lodge is based on a deep respect for the environment, the appreciation of local culture and social inclusion of communities located in the Island of the Sun.

Each of these aspects is a key component of our Corporate Social Responsibility Program (CSR). We have 15 eco-cottages for you to enjoy this beautiful place, the unique landscapes and a friendly service.

Loved it here, amazing views, excellent food. Peaceful and unspoilt. It is an eco lodge and employs local people, staff very friendly and helpful. We were in a party, comprising of 2 couples, and we were all retired, and did find getting to the hotel a bit of a challenge, with the altitude, but all managed!

The weather was cold when we were there, you do need the right clothes, both day and night…lots of layers!! Lovely place if you have a certain level of fitness, (and the right clothes!)with these, you will have an amazing and unforgettable experience, so glad we went.

Very serene, beautiful views and amazing food and dining as well. Simplicity and very nature-focused and ecofriendly. Amazing meals and local cuisine made the experience truly special. Sunset to absolutely die for.

In a trip that included Machu Picchu, other Peruvian ruins and Cusco, our time on Isla del Sol was probably the high point and Eco Lodge la Estancia was a huge part of that. We stayed one night – but most of 2 days – and wished we had time for 2 nights.

The lodge is a hike from town – but worth it and the lodge will pick up your bags from the port. The rooms are beautifully done, comfortable and with spectacular views across the lake to the mountains. Also, both dinner and breakfast were delicious.

But what made this stay was the service. The staff overall are lovely and Gabrielle, who manages day to day, was simply wonderful, always friendly, advising us on hikes to take, telling us about the lodge and island and answering any questions. And, as a gay couple who don’t speak Spanish, travelling in a conservative country, she was absolutely open and welcoming. If I ever come back to Isla del Sol, there is no question where I would stay.

You have to walk uphill for about 40 minutes before reaching heaven. Yes, La Estancia is like heaven on earth, situated in a quiet area of the island. The lodge is eco friendly, there is a solar system for hot water and heating which was enough to keep the room warm all night. There is also a greenhouse to grow salads and vegetables served at the restaurant.
The hotel is built with adobe bricks and thatched roofs.

Each room is in separated building, like a small house all to yourself. I was staying in room “Tola” and I had a stunning view of Lake Titicaca.

Wi-fi is good in the restaurant but very weak in the rooms. After sunset I would suggest to bring a torch with you to walk to the restaurant and back to your room.

It was my first visit to Isla del Sol. Although I had some expectations on the accommodation related to their ecofriendly orientation, I was really amazed by the combination of magnificent landscapes, very welcoming and carrying hosts and the excellent food. The perfect place to get some inspiration or to just rest for a few days.

Besides of the hikes and attractions you find in the surroundings, the lodges offer various views for outside activities. Longer stays are highly recommended. We stayed over 2 nights, which was a bit short in order to discover all the secret and holy places it has to offer.

This place is completely wonderful! It is of course a bit of a hassle to get there (but it is not like you are clueless about this – after all, it is on the top of Isla del Sol in the middle of a lake!) but it is an enjoyable adventure. You see ancient Inca ruins, sheep and their little shepherds (super cute) and obviously a stunning view of the snow-capped mountains and the lake.

It is amazing how pretty this place is and how functional despite its remote location and ecofriendly facilities. The water is carried by mules every day (how cute is that!!! there is even a super funny picture beside every sink with a mule to remind you to be mindful of water consumption) and showers provide hot water thanks to solar panels in the premises.

They serve typical Bolivian food, so you really experience this to the fullest. Our guide Moises was the best, but for me nothing beats the views and the sunrise. It is certainly one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen (only beaten by African ones, in my opinion)

This is a perfect place to go with your significant other, and I will certainly go back in the future!

3. El Pueblito Hotel Boutique 4* – Eco Friendly Hotels Bolivia

El Pueblito Hotel Boutique
El Pueblito Hotel Boutique

El Pueblito Hotel Boutique has a restaurant, outdoor swimming pool, a bar and shared lounge in Samaipata. This 4-star hotel offers room service and a tour desk. There is a children’s playground and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking.

All rooms have a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries.

Guests at the hotel can enjoy a continental or a buffet breakfast.

El Pueblito Hotel Boutique offers a sun terrace.

Rural lodging offering colorful rooms & cottages, plus a bakery, a bar & a restaurant.

Enchanting boutique hotel in the form of a colonial town from western Bolivia, hence the name. It has its own central square with a chapel, lookouts and ruins. Surrounded with rural rooms and little houses, fully equipped for the enjoyment of our guests. A pool, a cemetery, excellent and personal service, fresh air, beautiful sights and a bunch of pets, from royal doves to dogs to cats to peacocks, complete the place. If you’re looking for a spot to feel calm and peace, to relax, to snap things back together or to share with your loved ones, this is it.
A place where you can feel tranquility and present again. A place to breathe, connect and disconnect, to walk, to watch. It truly feels as if you’re stuck in time in a small village from a couple of centuries ago, when things were simpler.
If you are looking for bright lights and loud music, this is not the place. What you can expect is clean, well furnished accommodation with an ‘authentic’ feel. It is more like a small village with individual ‘homes’ rather than a high rise, faceless hotel. Beautiful mountain scenery, fresh air and a quite, calm atmosphere all lead to a pleasant peaceful experience.
The food was simple and delicious and after dinner we sat outside under the stars around a log fire drinking wine and chatting with friends we had never met before. Quite magical.

The place is like a dream. An Italian village square. You sleep in one of the shop. The architecture, the design as much as all the decoration deserves a price. It is awesome and mostly handmade by the lady who co-owns the place with her husband. She did marvels with simple techniques and material. Take some time to speak with the owners, their story is amazing and Sandra will share some of her artsy secrets.

OK, the place is on the top of the hill and you have to take a taxi in and out of the village (or walk the dusty road), but it is only 15 Bs one way and honestly, this place can not be close to the village. This is the small price to pay for the view, the quietness and the style.

Wow, what a gorgeous jewel in the heart of Bolivia. The rooms hand painted, beds with super quality bedding, awesome pillows and gas hot water! The food delicious, and sitting with a beer looking out to that view, couldn’t have had a better experience. A definite must if you are in Samaipata.
