Eco Friendly Hotels Canada

Guide to Eco Hotels in Canada ( 2024 Updated)

An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Canada are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Vancouver and then beyond in Canada.

Canada is clean! Seventy-nine percent of Canada’s electricity comes from ecofriendly, non-greenhouse gas emitting sources. … In the last five years, Canada installed more new wind energy generators as compared to all other forms of electricity.

Canadians care about the state of their environment. Over the past few years, several reports have presented Canada as an environmental laggard, ranking it near the bottom of the list of OECD countries

Voted the third greenest city in the world by the Economic intelligence unit and possessing the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per capita within Northern America, Vancouver has become a ‘sustainable powerhouse of a city’ (Corporate Knights 2019) within sustainability fields and green planning.

Enjoy a Full Canadian Rockies Breakfast with every stay! A friendly hotel of 89 spacious rooms and a three minute stroll to downtown Banff. Amenities include two outdoor hot tubs with a fireplace, sauna & steam room, in-room refrigerators, ski bus stop close-by, ski workbench, internet access terminal, laundry facilities($) and terrific staff that provide exceptional service for all of our guests.

The hotel is just a minutes walk from the ski shuttle and the main downtown area. And after a day of skiing, you’ll love the large hot tub in the courtyard–eco-friendly and a fun place to meet other travelers from all over. But most of all, the staff of the hotel are just amazing.

This accommodation is very well situated being close to downtown Banff and all the amenities.

I made use of their environmental policy by not having my room cleaned during my 2 night stay and as a result the hotel made a contribution to a local environmental project.

Two lovely hot tubs and a sauna and steam room.

There was a good choice for breakfast.

Lovely big room with eco wash products and everything needed for my stay.

The rooms, even though facing the main road, but with amazing mountain views, were not noisy. Very comfortable rooms and only a short walk into the centre of town. Free parking a bonus as was the pool. Spent an hour or so in the hotels hot tub with a fire going – nice.
Breakfast not that great, but the hotel more than made up for it.

They have an amazing eco incentive. If you don’t need your room cleaned, you stick a magnet outside the door and they give you a free coffee voucher for the coffee shop downstairs (which serves excellent coffee.

The room was surprisingly modern, with wifi, a fridge, coffee maker, and also a kettle and tea (likely the British influence of the staff, which was very pleasant!). The decor was recent as well, with a sink in the entrance to the room, leaving the tub and toilet behind a door. They are very aware of their eco footprint at this hotel.

2. Trout Point Lodge of Nova Scotia – Eco Friendly Hotels Canada

Resort Trout Point Lodge of Nova Scotia
Resort Trout Point Lodge of Nova Scotia

This remote, 3-storey wilderness lodge is next to the Tobeatic Wilderness Area in the heart of UNESCO Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve and beside the Tusket and Napier rivers. All rooms provide river and forest views.

The Trout Point Lodge of Nova Scotia is made of handcrafted Eastern Spruce logs, granite and sandstone. All guest rooms include a full bathroom and handmade wooden furniture. A flat-screen TV is available upon request.

Guests of the Trout Point Lodge may enjoy the outdoor barrel sauna or cedar wood-heated hot tub. A variety of nature and hiking trails wind through the surrounding area with guests able to arrange guided tours, including star gazing, or use the lodge’s GPS receivers. Canoeing, biking and fishing opportunities are also available.

In a remote location in the Tobeatic Wilderness Area, this rustic-chic, adults-only lodge and nature retreat is 53.1 km from Yarmouth.

The main lodge and the upstream lodge offer refined, woodsy suites with log walls and beamed ceilings. En suite bathrooms feature deep bathtubs, and there’s an in-room massage service. There’s no cell phone coverage.

The lodge has 2 fine-dining restaurants, a library, a kitchen and 2 bars, plus an outdoor hot tub. Activities include kayaking, biking and fishing, along with regular cooking and wine classes. Guests aged 14 and older are welcome.

Nestled in a UNESCO Southwest NovaBiosphere where every room has river views, Trout Point Lodge offers Nova Scotia’s most unique vacation experiences including outdoor adventure, forest bathing, stargazing and culinary classes. Trout Point Lodge is Canada’s only member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and rated 5 stars by Canada Select. It is home to North America’s Darkest Skies and the World’s first Starlight hotel certified by UNESCO partner Starlight Foundation.

Trout Point’s kitchen was the first restaurant in Canada to receive international recognition for its sustainability, with the award of a Three Star rating from the UK-based Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) in 2013.

The actual lodge at Trout Point is a thing of beauty. As you would expect it is constructed almost entirely out of logs, some of which are so huge I assumed they had to have come from out west. However, I was informed that they did in fact come from Nova Scotia. Inside and out the building conforms exactly to what most people would have in mind when they think ‘wilderness lodge.

Almost all of the furniture in the lodge was custom made by a now deceased Acadian woodworker. Each piece is unique and made from different varieties of trees found in the area. The beds are especially interesting.

It’s Eco-Friendly – I always get a kick out of the signs you find in chain hotels that tell you that if you use the same towel twice you will be “Saving the Planet!” What B.S. However, at Trout Point Lodge they do take ecological sustainability seriously. They hold the highest ranking from the Green Key Global program that sets the universal rating system for tourism operators.

I won’t go into the many other accolades Trout Point Lodge has received from other environmental groups (you can read them on their website), but suffice to say that if sustainability is important to you, then Trout Point Lodge should be on your radar.

The hummingbirds – Nova Scotia (all of eastern North America for that matter), has only one species of hummingbird, the ruby-throated. While places like Costa Rica and Arizona attract birders looking to see multiple varieties of these tiniest of birds, I never thought of Nova Scotia as a hummingbird’s location until I came to Trout Point Lodge. Sure we all have hummingbird feeders and with luck get a pair to settle in.

At Trout Point they have four feeders close together and I have never seen so many hummingbirds in my life. Looking down from the second story it looked like the air was buzzing with little pixies. Hummingbirds are notoriously aggressive with each other and these never stopped chasing each other. It was a very interesting diversion before dinner each night.

If you’ve lived in a city all your life and haven’t been in the woods much at night, then you’ve never really seen the night sky. It’s a startling revelation to people the first time they see how truly bright starlight can be and how colourful the night sky really is. Not surprisingly Trout Point has capitalized on it’s status as a dark sky destination and built a viewing platform especially for star gazing purposes. They have an array of telescopes and high power binoculars and people on staff who know how to use them.

It’s a gorgeous eco lodge in the wilderness, 45 minutes from anything other than Nova Scotia’s breathtaking natural beauty. No need to get back into the car: Trout Point has it all: comfort, amazing food and guides to help you make the most of the surroundings.

Operating 365 days of the year, ATS welcomes guests from around the world who wish to have a truly unique vacation experience.
Friendly and accommodating service. Wonderful island views. Short and easy walk to the beach. Clean and modern suites. Shower was one of the best showers I have used. We will be back for sure and it’s somewhere we could bring our kids to enjoy as a family staycation as well!
The kitchen had everything you could need to make your own meals. The bathroom was beautiful with a large shower. The bedroom had these giant closets which could tuck all luggage and clothing away nicely. We arrived late in the evening and were provided some local treats/foods when we arrived which tied us over until we could buy food in the morning. We appreciated that so much!

Obtaining groceries was easy enough from the local town and we found what we needed to make our own breakfasts in the morning. We also enjoyed using the BBQ provided which was perfect for the odd dinner we had at the condo.

The house rotation was very subtle and it didn’t bother us in the least. It was exciting to see where we’d land up when we awoke in the morning. They have these cute red foxes that play in the distant grass just beyond the property line which was fun to observe in the evenings.

The beach was a short walk away and we found it to be one of the more private beaches in the area. It was beautiful with red sand and we did swim in the water. It was cool but refreshing. We brought our bikes and so we enjoyed the trails along the coast along the way to Cavendish. That beach was stunning too but a lot busier.

The location of the house is fantastic. We had the number one rated restaurant on PEI located just around the corner from our stay. We did enjoy a meal at the Blue Mussel Cafe but we would also buy seafood from the fisheries and make our own meals which we enjoyed so much. We also really enjoyed our meal at a place called Pedro’s (I can’t remember exactly).

Fantastic quality and very reasonable prices. The Pearl restaurant had a beautiful atmosphere – we ate there one night for a casual experience in their upstairs lounge. Also, the wood stove pizza at the Cheese farm is so delicious. We discovered that on our last day.

Overall this vacation was what we needed: a clean, comfortable condo in a quiet and beautiful region with close access to fabulous food and nature. We needed to rest and relax from our stressful life but we also explored much of the Island. I would return to this dwelling in a heartbeat because the home owners have a good attention to detail. So much thought and care has gone into making this a wonderful stay.

Discover the vibrant history of the Huron-Wendat, learn about local plant life, and view authentic artwork and crafts at the hotel’s museum.

Set on the banks of the St. Charles River, this quirky, Aboriginal-inspired hotel with a First Nations teepee and longhouse architecture is 1.7 km from the Villaggio Indiano attraction and 15.2 km from downtown Québec City.

The stylish rooms combine stone, leather and wood furnishings, and come with balconies or terraces. All are equipped with 40-inch flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and iPod docks, as well as mini fridges and Keurig coffee makers.

A Native American restaurant with a terrace specializes in smoked fish and game. There’s also a spa (fee) with Nordic baths and massage rooms.

Discover the fine Northern cuisine, and a Huron-Wendat museum unique in North America. The architecture—inspired by the traditional long-house, the La Traite restaurant—cuisine imbued with myriad flavours of the boreal forest, and the legendary warmth of First Nations people will charm you.

This hotel is so unique because of its authentic decoration, lovely people (95% of them are wendats), excellent restaurant and so many activities for all ages to do around (guided tour of the museum, Wendat Myths and legends, night in the traditional longhouse, spa, snowmobile, ski, Ice hotel visit, Valcartier village, dog sledding, Quebec visit.

It is so great to finally find a place where the community/ies have so well succeeded in preserving and restoring little by little Wendat Culture, language, history, heritage and communicating with an eco-tourism approach to the rest of the world. So inspiring!

he room was very clean, and decorated in First Nations chic. There was plenty of room for two people. Our included a small refrigerator, Kuerig coffeemaker, and a cupboard. The bathroom was spacious compared to other hotels–they even provide bathrobes. I was skeptical of the pull-down bed, but it turned out so comfortable that we had a wonderful night’s sleep.

The lobby is elegant with a relaxing view. You are in the suburbs of Québec City, but it feels like you you’re in the country. The breakfast buffet, as well as the service, was excellent. There is a small gym (3 cardio machines and a free weight). The gym is located near the swimming pool area. You will need your room card to get in AND out. There is a changing area. There is free parking. The parking spaces, however, are like European sizes: they’re smaller. There are spaces where larger cars can fit–we managed to park our Dodge Durango near one of the entrances.

As this is called Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations, there is a museum connected to the hotel. They do provide guided tours in both French and English. Times are listed just at the entrance of the museum. There is a bike path adjacent to the parking lot, so you can go biking as well as.

5. Hotel Hôtel Alt Quartier DIX30 3* – Eco Friendly Hotels

Hôtel Alt Quartier DIX30
Hôtel Alt Quartier DIX30

This boutique Brossard hotel is located within Quartier Dix30, which offers a spa, over 100 stores, dining and nightlife. The hotel is environmentally friendly and features free Wi-Fi.

Guests rooms at the Hotel Quartier Dix30 use energy-efficient lighting and geothermal heating and cooling. They have a 32-inch flat-screen TV and iHome alarm clock. The spa-style bathrooms include a glass-enclosed shower stall with rain shower head, hairdryer and toiletries.

The Alt Lounge is home to happy-hour cocktails and art exhibit openings. It offers comfortable seating and DJ music.

Within the Quartier DIX30 shopping and entertainment complex, this contemporary all-suite hotel is 1 km from Highway 10 and 23 km from Montreal Botanical Garden.

Sleek studios provide free Wi-Fi, flat-screens and Nespresso machines, plus kitchenettes and sofas; some feature floor-to-ceiling windows. Suites have living rooms with sofa beds. Kids age 11 and under stay at no extra cost with a parent.

There’s an airy restaurant, and a trendy bar offering regular live music. Other amenities include a 24-hour gym, event space and 6 meeting rooms. Limited breakfast is available. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement for a fee.

The staff is bilingual & very friendly. The rooms are clean and gorgeous, and I stayed in a room on the 10th floor which had a breathtaking panoramic view of suburban and downtown Montreal through the floor to ceiling window.

The hotel is located in an upscale shopping area with many very nice stores and restaurants…and a Walmart. The only thing I would nitpick is that the gorgeous bar in the lobby doesn’t really serve much food. But all in all a really great place to stay.

.Beds are comfortable, nice to have microwave and fridge compare to sister hotel next by who doesn’t give you that. bathrobe was also a plus we were not expecting being at an Alt hotel. The + really does seem to make a difference. Nice quality bathroom product made in Montreal, ecologically friendly. We didn’t try the bar, we Uber over some food and watch a movie on the television with their built in chromecast system.

. First and foremost, the service was incredible, the front staff was attentive to all our needs, big or small: from dripping ice cream cones to acquiring a new pack’n’play for an infant. They left personal notes and a welcome package in each room with coupons for nearby restaurants and stores and colouring sheets for kids.

The hotel itself is modern and luxurious with lots of small elegant touches (hand soap and body lotion bottles; nespresso coffee makers in each room; umbrella and bathrobes in room…).

We stayed in 3 of the 4 different hotel room layouts. The Studio+ and Studio Double are quite spacious with a comfy sofa. The 2-piece is a more compact layout but works for keeping an infant in the bedroom portion of the room. The beds are comfy.

My only critique would be minimal space to unpack for a family with kids (only 2 drawers, small closet). Overall, it is family-friendly, the hotel staff provided a change table and infant bathtub in the room.

There is a gym onsite but no pool. One floor is reserved for meeting rooms. Because of our large group, the hotel allowed us to use one of the meeting rooms for our gatherings. We didn’t end up eating at the hotel bar because there are some great restaurants in the Dix30 mall where Alt+ is located.

Overall, Alt+ is a beautiful hotel with incredibly attentive and friendly staff. We would definitely recommend it and return on a future visit.

A bright indoor swimming pool and exercise room on the 4th floor and 2 spectacular outdoor rooftop hot pools with views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, open year round. Dining is available at Pacini Italian Restaurant, featuring gourmet Italian food with unique and authentic flavours and a warm and friendly ambiance.
Location: The hotel has an unbeatable location in downtown Banff. Within a few minutes’ walk, you will find yourself surrounded by plethora of restaurants and cafes. Twice during my stay, I spotted deer feeding on grass nearby the hotel. The bus stop for local Roam public transit connecting to major places of interest in the Banff area is a stone’s throw away from the hotel. Don’t forget to ask for a complimentary bus pass at the reception.

The Roam Route 8X from the Banff High School transit hub across the street will take you directly to Lake Louise. Adjacent to the transit hub, there is the bus stop for the convenient and highly recommended On-It regional shuttle from/to Calgary downtown that I availed myself of due to suspension of the Banff Airporter and other transfer services from the Calgary airport.

Room: I booked a Superior King room requesting a higher floor with better views. I ended up with a nice room on the third floor overlooking Mt. Norquay. The room was well sized for one or two guests featuring a clean bathroom with rain shower and toiletries. I loved the organic vanilla coconut Rocky Mountain Shower Gel so much that decided to order it for home use. The bed and pillows were very comfy.

I appreciated the hotel’s eco-friendly approach – instead of providing water in plastic bottles in the room, they offered a reusable water bottle for a small fee. A room with mountain views facing a relatively busy Marten Street meant more noise during the day and in the evening – a fair compromise, in my opinion. For quietness, rooms overlooking the hotel courtyard would be a better option. I found the air conditioning very loud and disturbing. Thanks to pleasant temperatures, I shut it down and could get away with open windows.
Service: Always available, friendly, helpful and professional are just a few words to describe the premium customer service provided by the Australian-British-Canadian team at this hotel. At the check in, Shani immediately made feel at home and kindly accommodated my request for a higher floor with mountain views.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this property, and the outstanding five star service fully made up for small shortcomings here and there. This was my first time visiting Banff and Moose Hotel and Suites only enhanced my unforgettable time there. I will definitely return. Thank you!

7.  Fairmont Le Château Frontenac 5* – Luxury Eco Hôtels Québec

Eco Hotels Quebec
Eco Hotels Quebec

Situated in Old Quebec, this heritage property boasts views of the St. Lawrence River. On-site restaurants offer a variety of dining options, from classic to regional dishes. Montmorency National Park is 2 minutes’ drive away.

The elegant, European-style rooms of Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac offer a cable TV and a coffee maker. Ironing facilities and air conditioning are also included.

Guests of the Fairmont are welcome to enjoy the indoor pool, a hot tub and steam rooms. A fitness room, business center and concierge services are also available. Guests can enjoy a variety of treatments at the Spa du Château, the on-site spa.

The Notre Dame Cathedral is a 3-minute walk from Le Chateau Frontenac. The Citadel of Quebec is 500 m away.

Overlooking the St. Lawrence River, this grand, castle-like hotel is a 3-minute walk from Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec and 8 minutes’ walk from boutiques in Quartier Petit Champlain.

Sophisticated rooms offer traditional or contemporary decor, plus flat-screens, Wi-Fi (fee), and tea and coffeemakers. Upgraded rooms add river views; some have sitting areas. Suites include living rooms, additional bedrooms and/or marble bathrooms. Room service is available.

Breakfast is served in a cafe with river views. There’s an upscale restaurant, a wine bar, and a bistro. Other amenities include a spa, and a fitness center with an indoor pool.

Standing high on a bluff overlooking the mighty St. Lawrence River, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is not merely a hotel located in the heart of Old Québec – it is the heart of it. At Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, guests are guaranteed a memorable and inspiring stay in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with easy walking access to all of the wonderful sites and experiences that Old Québec has to offer.

This is considered to be one of the most iconic hotels in the world. It is hard not to associate the image of this hotel with Quebec City. It is literally like staying at a castle! Great museum style displays at the lower level is a must see. The staff are very helpful. There is a Starbucks located in the lower level of the hotel.

Great location – some of the best restaurants and landmarks are located within walking distance.

Great views – you get to see the river right outside of your hotel.

Our room was clean and looks recently renovated and is quite spacious. New furniture throughout. The bathroom is modern featuring a rain shower head and a handheld sprayer. No bathtub.

Our King size bed was comfortable enough.

Only complaint is the weak water pressure from the shower (not sure if this is a city / hotel problem?) and the toilet (this probably has to do with the eco-flow toilet installed).

The hotel is built on the site of a fortress dating back to the 17th century. It is imposing, large and very beautiful. Situated on a hill from where you overlook the city and the St Lawrence River, almost everything is within walking distance, even if the elevation makes it a pretty steep climb when you go back. There is a wonderful, wide boardwalk/promenade that will take you to the Governor’s Promenade, which hugs the hillside and makes you feel as if you are walking in the treetops.

The hotel staff were beyond helpful, courteous and friendly, without being obtrusive. Ask for a room with a river view, even though they tend to be somewhat smaller than the ones looking into the courtyard.

Oh – and if you drive an eco-friendly car (I have a hybrid) they offer free valet parking. That’s a saving of about CAD36 per day.

The staff is very professional, informative, courteous, friendly, and responsive. The check-in at the front desk is smooth and quick. The location is excellent with the closest access to both Upper and Lower towns with all the boutiques and restaurants within easy walking distance.(we leave our car in the convenient garage the entire time we are there). The view overlooking the water is amazing, especially from the bar at night.

The rooms are sparkling clean, with very comfortable beds and attractive decor. The amenities provided are excellent and the food is abundant and delicious. The hotel is eco-conscious as well. There are so many things to do and so many places to eat that it would be hard to get bored. We didn’t have children with us but I suspect they would enjoy staying in a “castle” with the prospect of running into princesses or bloodthirsty buccaneers or whatever their imaginations can conjure up in such a historic setting.

The surrounding area also offers diversions such as the Montmorency Falls, Ste. Anne Du Beapre, and the Zoo to name a few. The Frontenac is the perfect place to stay while sampling all that Quebec City has to offer.
