Set in an idyllic 8-acre garden estate on Table Mountain’s eastern slopes, close to the airport and the city.

At the bottom of table mountain with a wonderful garden, or better park.

Eco oriented hotel, just 3 floors. Great architecture combining old and new. Lovely rooms. Great food. Sometimes the staff could get a bit more supervision.

But all extremely friendly. November in Cape Town, ever again in that beautiful place.

I had a truly comfortable room, with excellent amenities and access to good food and drinks on the terrace in the evenings.

The grounds are full of interesting wildlife, including froggy choruses at night.

The views of the Lion’s Head and the quiet setting make it a must for any traveller.

On top of all this, it has an eco commitment and funds social project, for example educational and environmental concerns.

The service was kind, friendly and prompt, and the breakfast exceptional.

The Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Newlands, Cape Town is one of the nicest and well priced hotel in Cape Town.

I live in Johannesburg and whenever I travel down to Cape Town, I try to stay at that hotel.

Nestled at the foot of the west end of Table Mountain, it’s grounds are beautiful and Eco-friendly, it has the best spa, and the rooms, even the standard rooms are great.

They are large, spacious, clean and well appointed.

I have recently stayed there for a weekend and I found it up to it’s normal standard. it might not be in the heart of the throbbing centre of the city (the V&A Waterfront) but it is a 15 minute drive to there.

It is in the quiet suburb of Newlands, and for any rugby fan, right next to the famous Newlands Rugby stadium.

They have 3 great restaurants and the food is consistently good. I would recommend anyone looking for a nice peaceful hotel which is vey central, to stay at the Vineyard Hotel.

Why You Should NOT Book Vineyard Hotel

So we love visiting the vineyard for breakfast. They have amazing eggs benedict.

Friendly service when we go there for the occasional breakfast treat. So on the 16th December we decided to book a night for our anniversary.

Room was fine etc… But at the breakfast table… Staff pay attention to certain guests only. We were kept waiting

Eventually when our waiter came, she made snide comments about other staff members “not being the brightest“. That comment was uncalled for and guests shouldn’t be part of staff squabbles.

Please treat ALL your guests equally. Its seems service generally is South Africa lacks so much structure when hotels are fully booked.

Staff work under duress, unfriendly and carry on like headless chickens…was rather disappointed.

Antrim Villa is a wonderful old house built in the late 1800s. Its charm comes from the Victorian style with high ceilings, well kept stuccos, and the original pine flooring.
The Villa’s style is Afro Scandinavian accentuated with materials like sisal, bamboo and linen. Therefore the interior has a neutral organic colour palette.
The serene garden with sun beds, citrus trees holds a large blue saltwater pool.
The house is located in Green Point, a 5 minute walk to the beach promenade and a 15 minute walk to the new stadium.
The Villa has two types of rooms; standard rooms and luxury rooms.

Comfortable and eco-friendly, no AC but a fan and the location made it comfortable.
Great staff and a wonderful breakfast selection.
Staff very helpful with insights and recommendations. Great location a block of a major drive across from the football stadium.
Walkable to V&A waterfront or short Uber. Very close to the promenade for a walk or run.
A Beautiful eco-driven guesthouse. Good comfort and Very friendly and service-driven staff. Breakfast is very complete and delicious.
Good information about do’s and don’ts of Cape Town.
Relation with Very Good taxi Company. Our perfect stay for a few days in Cape Town.
The room was extremely comfortable, with a great bed, very swish bathroom and great toiletries.
I found one PowerPoint to charge my devices (UK plug), and there was a wall heater which I used, as the night was a little chilly.
There are a lot of notices posted around the room to remind you of its Eco-friendly principles, which reminded me a bit of the YMCA!
Breakfast is a communal affair around a lovely big farm table, and what a breakfast!
Homemade bread, freshly baked muffins, homemade muesli, great coffee, eggs made to order….a really sumptuous spread.
The Villa is situated at Green Point, near the big stadium, and is very close to the center area of Cape Town, but you would be in for a bit of a walk.
I would advise a taxi to get there. There is a small swimming pool, a comfortable lounge and outside seating area, a communal laundry and parking onsite.
The owners are lovely and friendly, and I regretted I was only staying for a short while. If you are in the mood for a cozy, comfy, intimate place to stay then this is a good bet.
This is a lovely little place. We stayed in the studio apartment for 2 weeks. It’s a decent size, simply but nicely done with a fully equipped kitchen.
The location is also great – nice neighbourhood, close enough to most places and very near the Sea Point Promenade.
There are a number of restaurants and grocery stores within 10-15 minutes walking distance.
The staff were really, really warm and helpful.

Privately nestled in a buzzing Greenpoint and a walk away from restaurants, shops and the promenade.

ANTRIM VILLA ticked all my boxes and is definitely my choice when staying in Cape Town.

This space exudes privacy and luxury yet it offers a calm and casual holiday feel.

The modern and stylish interiors and rooms are always looking fresh and clean and also giving you that homey feel.

I loved that my room was adjacent to the pool area to just step out for that early morning or sundowner dip.

The service was exceptional and the staff were professional and friendly.

Definitely my home away from home.

Why You Should NOT Book Antrim Villa Cape Town

room was very small, specifically because it was a family room.

Stretcher for the kid was somewhere in the walkway, kettle had to stand on the floor because there was no plug.

No warm welcome when we entered, just a few words. Breakfast was good, that was the only nice thing about the whole place

Grootbos, with its two 5-star luxury lodges is spectacularly situated on the fynbos and forest clad hills overlooking the whale-watching haven of Walker Bay.
Grootbos has carved a unique niche in the upmarket eco-lodge sector by specializing in the Cape region of South Africa’s world-renowned flora and marine biodiversity.

Amenities include guided nature, cave and bird tours, as well as meals at 2 refined restaurants.

There’s an outdoor pool, plus shops, stylish bars and a spa

The villa had everything you could ever want for:
– 6 en-suite bedrooms with views and amazing bed/linen/towels/gowns/slippers and toiletries
– big, cosy lounges inside with fireplaces and numerous outside lounge areas to watch the breathtaking sunsets from

fully equipped kitchen for any cooking needs, as well as an inside and outside braai
– formal and informal dining area

– we even used the theatre room to watch the rugby and the gym for a morning exercise session

Over and above the 5 star lodge and beautiful surroundings the most magical part of this place is the staff!

Each chalet is very private and we enjoyed the spacious, uncluttered suites, with fabulous bathrooms, outdoor shower, private patios.

The views from every room, including the bathroom left us speechless.

Finding a full board facility outside of safari camps, is unexpected, but the deliciously prepared meals, phenomenal wine selection, from arguably one of the best stocked cellars in the country are well worth the full board all inclusive daily rate.

They offer wine tours – accompanied by their sommelier, horseback riding, hiking, biking and evening sundowner drives on the reserve.

A really pleasant, peaceful stay in an extremely eco friendly atmosphere.

Nestled between mountain and sea, the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a five-star eco-paradise showcasing the incredible Flora and Marine life of the Southern Tip of Africa.

Home of the “Marine Big 5” – whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and penguins; and with unparalleled floral diversity, Grootbos offers you a one-of-a-kind luxury African experience.

This is the description on their website and how true it is. This is a pure organic reserve one of a few in South Africa.

We stayed for 4 nights and loved it. Ian did the cave walk, we did the beach walk, forest walk and drove up into the mountains to see all the flora but to enjoy the vast mountains and views.

You can in season do a shark dive in a cage, with lots more activities, check out their website.

This is a fantastic place to chill and enjoy the peace and luxury of Grootbos.

Each suite is designed to give you ultimate privacy without compromising your uninterrupted views of the coast. All meals are five star, a real culinary delight.

Wines are rather expensive, but you have your own Sommelier to assist with making an informed choice seeing that you are going to pay top dollar.

The Grootbos Foundation is doing amazing upliftment work amongst the local community and boasts organic vegetable gardens and many arts and crafts projects.

The owner has also written a book on the area, identifying the different flora species in the reserve.

We were looking forward to planting our own tree in the reserve, but were told that due to the popularity of the project that they were ‘sold out’.

We had a fantastic time and I would most certainly recommend this venue if you are into eco-tourism or if you are looking for something exclusive off the beaten track.

Why You Should NOT Book Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Disappointing stay. The room was not to special and best compared with the cheap apartments in Spain where you stay in on budget holidays.

The food was disappointing. The three nights we stayed there they served hake on all nights. Special offer?

The dining room was so cold that people were dining with their winter coats on! We were lucky to sit next to an electric blower and were actually sweating.
Most activities were organised by external suppliers and due to the bad weather most of them were canceled.

No one could be held responsible of course, but one would expect some alternatives or some extra effort to make sure everyone stays happy.

Video Review of Spier Hotel Cape Town

On the Eerste River, on the grounds of a historic winery, this sophisticated hotel is 16.1 km from the Simonsberg Nature Reserve and 19.9 km from Strand Beach.

Why You Should Book Spier Hotel

Chic rooms come with limited free WiFi, satellite TV, and tea and coffee making facilities. Upgraded rooms have river or mountain views; some also have patios.

Suites add sitting areas and unlimited WiFi.

Breakfast is complimentary. There’s also an upscale restaurant, a casual eatery and a bar.

Other amenities include 6 pools, children’s programmes, and a spa.

Hotels in South Africa to be Fair Trade in Tourism certified, Spier offers visitors a variety of authentic experiences – from food and wine to outdoor activities – in beautiful surroundings.

Spier, in the heart the famous Cape Winelands, is more than a hotel.

This is a great location, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, the eco credentials are great with on property recycling / generation of all services.

The resort is a short taxi ride away from the town which offers plenty of options for places to eat.

Excellent food and Wine with the added bonus of beautiful art works. Staff are well trained and friendly. Tyson at the Tasting Room was brilliant.

The Estate is scenic and well run and Eco sustainable.

First stop out of Cape Town prior to hitting the Garden route. Lovely estate, excellent facilities, tasteful relaxing room.

Bar was the weakest area of the restaurant area, great food and service. Good choice of places to eat in the evening.

Their commitment to being Eco friendly had a downside of the water tasting rather peculiar, but having just left Cape Town experiencing a possible water shortage this was a small price to pay.

Wine tasting included in our package was lovely. Could have stayed longer as we did not have time to take in the town of Stellenbosch or Franschhoek.

This is an absolute wonderful hotel and wine farm experience. The farm is a beautiful working and eco-friendly farm, with even friendlier staff.

Most of the food that you are served in the many restaurants on the estate is grown right on the farm or region close by.

The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated with bath and shower in the bathroom.

It is very well maintained and serviced daily by the very friendly and efficient housekeeping staff with turndown service at night.

The food in the restaurants are of top quality and a visit to all recommended.

The estate is situated around dams and the Eerste River which makes for beautiful scenery and not to mention the vineyards.

There are lots of activities available on the estate from Cycling, walking, pools around the hotel and rooms, picnics around the estate and so many more I cannot think of right now.

They also have a rehabilitation centre for birds of prey on the estate where you can interact with the birds.

Spier is very well situated to explore the wine lands around Stellenbosch and Paarl.

Why You Should NOT Book Spier Hotel

We like the hotel, buildings and also the cleanliness. Great Things to do for family. Good area for picnic, nice trees.

But

The service and Management visibility is poor! Never had such experience.

Demotivated and not interested in guests!
