An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Chile are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Santiago de Chile and beyond in Chile.
Talking about sustainable tourism, nowadays, is no longer a novelty. Many countries have opted for a friendly and sustainable form of tourism that advocates for the preservation and respect of the natural environment, and Chile is not lagging behind, responding to needs in a committed and active way.
Still, there are many challenges ahead, but progress is made on the subject, given that the immense variety of parks and national reserves lead the way for an ecofriendly kind of tourism.
Maintaining a constant protection of the environment, not only guarantees the longevity of all the species that inhabit it, but also ensures the wellbeing of future generations in each of them, so it becomes interesting to make this a habit that, instead of deteriorating, is translated into improving the conditions day by day.

The room was old style, wooden furniture, but quite OK. It was moderate for size. I was on 3rd floor and had a balcony overlooking the street. There was a double window system, which more or less eliminated the street noise, so I was never disturbed (with the windows open, the accelerating buses were quite loud). Bed was comfortable, workspace OK but not great, wardrobe space fine, bathroom good, shower good. The A/C seemed to only have turbo-setting, so I used it as little as possible (it’s an eco-friendly thing to do anyway).
Breakfast was good, reasonable variety, good coffee. the lounge bar was good, tasty food but limited choice and rather expensive. I ate at the Bristol restaurant on only one evening. Interesting menu, seems to be a bit hit and miss, but really good when it hits. Service throughout the hotel was excellent, friendly and helpful, and never overbearing. I am not going to argue with the other reviewers who said negative things, I will just say that I had a very different and positive experience. The lobby is very good, many seats and tables that are just right to either meet whoever you want to, or sit and relax. This is what hotels used to be like.
The fitness centre is OK. It is compact, with just a few machines in one room and reasonable selection of resistance machines in another room. There are not many users so it’s fine. There is also an adjoining spa facility, I didn’t use it so can’t comment.
Internet is free in the hotel, there is one password for lobby/restaurant and another for the rooms. It works OK, but there are many routers and not all seem to work properly. If you seem to have connected but don’t get internet, I suggest to delete that router from your network preferences and connect to another. Keep going until you find a reliable one, and then you’re OK.
The hotel is downtown and almost all of the Ministries and government agencies are within 10 minutes walk, as are the original buildings of the two main universities (the main campuses are elsewhere). Cross the avenue and you hit many pedestrian-friendly shopping streets. There is a metro station close to the hotel, this is a good way to get around, but avoid rush hour if you can. Buy a ‘Tarjeta BIP’ – a smart card with stored value – at the Metro kiosk, and you can use it on metro or bus, it’s a flat fare system, about a dollar per trip. The main bus routes also go by the hotel, but there is almost no information about them (even their website has nothing in English) so it’s hard to use even though it is fast.
The church beside the hotel (San Francisco) is the oldest surviving church in Chile. It is not spectacular, but it is a tranquil place despite the traffic outside. It is a nice place to visit and just to sit for a while. As others have said, there are not many good restaurants nearby. Suggestion is to walk or take Metro (3 stops) to Baquedano, then about 5 minutes north from there is Bellavista, bohemian area with lots of restaurants.

Meals and drinks (included) are served in a woodsy-chic dining room with a bar. There’s a a terrace and a lounge with a fireplace. A spa includes treatment rooms, a heated indoor infinity pool, a sauna and a hot tub. Guided hikes and horseback riding are offered.
Luxurious design hotel with 40 guest rooms. The hotel ambiance is Patagonian, one that radiates warmth, safety and togetherness; all things desired by those who’ve spent their day in the Patagonian outdoors. The hotel sits on a bluff where the vast pampas meet Lake Sarmiento, and enjoys a magnificent view of Torres del Paine peaks on the other side of the lake.
This may have been our favorite hotel of all in Chile and Argentina. It’s hard to top the beautiful scenery and solitude in Patagonia with anything man-made, but this hotel would be close. Perfectly designed to match the surrounding area–it blends in with the scenery and was designed to be respectful of the area.
Made out of soothing native wood, clean, modern, elegant and very comfortable. Glass everywhere, allowing wonderful views from any room–we had a view across Lago Sarmiento to the Torres from our room. Our room was very comfortable, with a wonderful bathroom and lots of nice amenities, including water bottles and a tap in the reception area (eco-conscious yet luxurious).
I particularly enjoyed the Patagonian myths placed on the bed with a chocolate at the nightly turndown service. The resort is an eco-friendly, architectural wonder with superlative views of the Paine massif from every single room.
There is no bad room! I loved the room design with low lying shelves below the huge window so the suitcases could be stowed in a convenient but unobtrusive location. The deep bath was fabulous for soaking our weary muscles after our long walks. My only regret is that I didn’t visit the spa for a massage or sauna.
Tierra Patagonia itself is beautiful and the architecture impressive. Chilean architect Cazú Zegers wanted to create a building that would blend into the landscape and complement the surrounding nature (unlike the giant white monstrosity that is Explora). The hotel is built from local materials and operates an eco-friendly policy. Interior decor is modern and minimalist with touches of traditional Chilean design – very tasteful. If you prefer something more sumptuous and classic then this isn’t for you.
Bedrooms come with all the amenities and the common areas have plenty of comfortable seating and a wood fire. The spa / pool / hot tub is also fantastic. Wifi is only available in the common area but I think this is actually a great opportunity to disconnect and digitally detox…after all you are in the middle of nowhere at the end of the earth! Vibes are relaxed and dress code casual and this is what I love about the hotel. It offers a luxury experience without the snobby pretension of other 5* resorts around the world.
The hotel blends in beautifully with its surroundings and nestles into the natural landscape. Being greeted by the manager, Eduardo who explains about the hotels Eco credentials and shows you to your room is a really nice touch and his genuine warmth and passion is also reflected in all the hotels staff. This experience is all inclusive and there really is no need to spend any money whilst here, we did however opt for a couple of massages and some really great Chilean wine at additional cost.

4. Nayara Alto Atacama 5* – Eco Friendly Hotels Chile

Tucked away in a tranquil valley located next to Pucará de Quitor, Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa offers all-inclusive accommodation packages in San Pedro de Atacama. Free WiFi access is available throughout the property’s common areas.
All-inclusive packages include accommodation, airport shuttles, city transfers, breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and refreshments, daily tours, spa access and bicycles (more details in The fine print section).
Rooms at Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa feature a rustic yet elegant decoration, which makes use of local crafts. The lodge offers 42 guest rooms, all fitted with a private bathroom and a terrace providing panoramic views of the valley. Additionally, there are 10 suites, all equipped with an indoor and an outdoor shower, as well as a terrace providing unique views of a lagoon attracting a variety of aquatic birds.
Surrounded by mountains in the Atacama Desert, this refined all-inclusive lodge is a 5-minute walk from the Pukará de Quitor archaeological site and 3 km from Ruta 23 highway.
Relaxed rooms offer Wi-Fi access, safes and minibars, plus terraces with sitting areas and mountain views. Suites add open-air bathrooms.
In addition to meals and drinks, guided walks and loaner bikes are included. There’s also a restaurant, a bar and an open-air eatery. Other amenities consist of gardens, terraces and 6 outdoor pools, as well as a spa with hot tubs, a sauna and a steam room.
Alto Atacama was an amazing experience. The rooms are spacious and beds are very comfortable. It had a beautiful patio that overlooked the red mountains. The spa treatment included a foot and back massage and was followed up by a scalp massage as we soaked in the Inca warm water tubs.
This lodge is a genuine eco-lodge unlike many others whose claims are not born out in fact. It was by far the best of the 14 facilities we stayed at this time in South America. The location is stunning. The buildings are all in total sympathy with the surroundings. All of the materials & natural earth colours used, blend in with the surroundings.
The room was spacious, quiet and restful, being designed to rest one’s eyes after the glare of the desert. The bed was extremely comfortable – hotel beds do vary a lot. The safe was very large. Room lighting was good.
The staff are all young, very competent and highly motivated. The choices of meals were wide and the food and wines always excellent.
The hotel and grounds were stunningly beautiful and designed in a very eco-sustainable way. The staff pampered us the entire time. The food was delicious, starting with a breakfast buffet and then three course meals with complimentary wine at lunch and dinner. The front desk staff, bartenders and the wait staff were all very gracious and accommodating.
The tour guides spoke excellent English and were very knowledgeable, especially Marjorie and Roberto. Don’t miss the stargazing season on the observation deck. The night sky is incredible.
This is an eco-hotel that uses its own water supply and energy, so to remain sustainable as possible they do not use air-conditioning. But this was never an issue. The rooms are built using traditional adobe techniques, keeping them naturally cool, and there are ceiling fans. There was no television in the room which was also very refreshing.
The idea is that this is a retreat from the modern annoyances of daily life. However, they can be provided if requested. The beds are large and very comfortable. The porch area is a haven in itself. The suites afford the luxury of an outdoor shower, a nice touch. Free wifi throughout.
The pool area is actually a series of small pools, one heated, and there is also a jacuzzi. Each pool area offers some level of privacy and is a nice idea. Also, sitting in the jacuzzi under the stars on an Atacama night is up there with one of my best experiences ever. There is a fully stocked bar there. The spa is also nearby.
The landscaping of the property grounds is outstanding, with lush green herb gardens, pomegranate trees and palms all in lovely contrasts against that indigo desert sky. There is even a llama enclosure.
The restaurant is fantastic with a very good selection of dishes, all varied and inventive. There is good usage of local produce and they are vegetarian, gluten and sugar conscious with a lot of choice for people with such intolerances. Again, refreshing. Their wine selection is, as expected, superb.
Tours are available to every corner of the desert with great bilingual guides who have been trained to a very high standard. This is a fantastic way to explore the region in the comfort of air-conditioned vans. There are regular shuttles into San Pedro de Atacama itself, but this can be easily walked or cycled (bicycles are available for use). One of the tours is to their own astronomy deck where a fully interactive tour of the constellations is undertaken.
Overall, this is a terrific property tucked away in the lush greenery of a very beautiful oasis. It makes a wonderful springboard for the discerning traveller wishing to explore the region or simply indulge in some escapism in the desert sun.
Very highly recommended.

Set on the shores of Llanquihue lake and boasting stunning lake and volcano views, the recently-built Hotel AWA offers luxurious accommodation with free WiFi access in Puerto Varas. Guests are greeted at the property with a welcome drink and a complimentary breakfast is served daily.
Hotel AWA features double or twin rooms, as well as double or twin suites. All rooms at the property are fitted with a king-size bed, a private bathroom with a spa bath, a fireplace and panoramic lake views. Suites also feature a seating area and a balcony.
Airy rooms & suites in a luxe lakefront hotel with dining, plus a spa, indoor pool & free breakfast.
The bedrooms have stunning views of Lake Llanquihue and Osorno Volcano. They are well laid out and make the best use of the space. The wardrobe space is limited but I imagine most guests will live out of a suitcase for a few nights.
The hotel design is interesting with a lot of features. The use of concrete and glass makes for an unexpected combination in this very traditional picturesque spot in Chile. When we were there, other than the first day, it was a bit wet and cold and the use of hard and dull surfaces made it feel a little unwelcoming until the fires were lit. The lounge and bar are an extension of reception which meant it didn’t really feel like a place to linger unless you had a seat in front of the fire.
