An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Colombia are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Bogota and beyond in Colombia.
The Colombian government has initiated several programs to protect the environment. By 1959, the Amazon forests, the Andean area and the Pacific coast were protected. … The main environmental agency is the Institute for Development of Renewable Natural Resources and the Environment (INDERENA), established in 1969
According to the ranking, Colombia is the second cleanest country in the Americas and world’s ninth cleanest state. After years of deforestation linked to the conversion of large areas to illegal coca plantations and oil palm plantations, the country is now moving toward ecological standpoints by supporting the eco-friendly agricultural policies. The country scored 99.9 of EPI index in the category of cropland policy – around 40% of agriculture areas remain uncultivated at any given time so the soil is allowed to lie fallow.

The place is beautiful, good atmosphere, for a nice relaxing vacation, the room has great views, with a very, very confortable bed and very good shower. The hotel has two pools and all facilities to be confortable at the beach without losing the feeling of being in the nature. No music, we could only hear the sound of birds, and other animals. No wifi in the rooms, which was also a great to feel disconnected all day.
The food at the restaurant was very good and the restaurant staff was very friendly. Breakfast changes everyday and is a closed menu of fruit and a local dish, juice and other beverages. We thought both prices for the hotel and restaurant were in line with the quality of the place.
Being aware and conscious of their Save water campaign, it would be good to have a big jug of water in the facilities so we are able to have a glass of water without having to buy a bottle each time, which could even be more eco–friendly. Other places we have been in this trip have that.
This Eco Resort honours the name 100%. The therapeutic sounds of different birds and the majestic dance on the waves makes you feel really grounded and peaceful.
The experience was Eco–Friendly without being uncomfortable. Our bed was covered with a canopy style net, the room had ceiling fans and we felt the breeze off the ocean at night. The room was fully stocked with a mini-bar so we did not have to go out searching for bottled water or snacks.
The shower had solar heated water which was a big bonus for us. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the variety unmatched. All of the staff in the resort are extremely helpful and carry a happy vibe everywhere they go. If you want to see an untouched beach in Colombia and still be comfortable, this is your place! We will be going back for sure.
The rooms and grounds are newly renovated/built, the two swimming pools are lovely, and the public spaces are inviting. Our private casita was modern and simplistic in design without being “over the top” at an eco resort. The private bathroom had a wonderful shower head and looked out over the ocean.
The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and had a genuine desire to make our stay special. Most exceptional at this resort in Northern Colombia is the food. The meals were absolutely incredible, fresh and delicious. The dishes were unique yet approachable.

The nearest airport is La Macarena, 3.3 km from the lodge, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service.
Juan Pablo , the manager and owner, built in the middle of the forest this extraordinary eco lodge. If you want to visit the National Park of Caño Cristales, the raudales and Ciudad de Piedra this is the place to stay! He creates your itinerary according to the length of your stay and also arranges it with the local rangers.
The main building and cottages are rustic, spacious and with very comfortable beds. The showers are outdoors and provide a wonderful experience when you listen to the variety of birds singing. You will see also “the monkeys watching you” 🙂 The paths and access to the river are strongly built.
The staff is very great; kind and helpful. You will be surprised with tasty meals. They will certainly walk the extra mile, if needed, to make your stay “a perfect one.
The rooms or “cabañas” are impeccable and cozy, built and equipped, above all, to have little to no impact on the surrounding environment; they are powered by solar energy, can’t waste too much water and you’re provided with biodegradable shampoo and soap. Staying here was the perfect balance between nature and comfort.
As for the tours and activities that they offer, suffice it to say that everything was perfectly organized. We never encountered any issues with our itinerary, partly because we were lucky (specially regarding the weather), but mainly because Juan Pablo and his team make sure that everything runs like clockwork.
All in all, it was an amazing experience to stay at this place. We truly couldn’t be happier with our trip and I hope that this place, and it‘s staff members, can become the model for how things should be done in the tourism industry, here and elsewhere, not only because of its top quality and the aforementioned eco-friendliness, but also because many members of the local communities are constantly involved and benefit from the tourism activities offered at La Manigua, thanks to Juan Pablos admirable efforts and planning.
The accommodation is unique, very comfortable, clean, 100% eco friendly, in the middle of the nature. The staff made everything to made us feel special, the food is delicious and the tour guides are very knowledgeable.
Caño Cristales was much better than imagined. It is a natural wonder not to be missed. Is unique. Crystal clear waters and possible to get into it to swim at specific points. It is very secure and the people of the love to receive tourism, they take care very well of the resources and educate the tourist to take care of it as well.
It’s amazing to see the progress of La Macarena and Caño Cristales.Totally recommended to visit.
La Manigua Lodge is located in the middle of the jungle, built as an eco resort, with all the comfort of a nice hotel room. The nest in the back of the cabin allows you to lay on it and relax after a wonderful day, looking the monkeys jumping from one tree to the other, birds flying around and sometimes some other animals crossing below the cabin. A special care is taken at the kitchen to deliver very nice and different dishes, well presented and very tasty.
The restaurant area is an excellent place to meet different people, enjoy and exchange all the experiences of the journey.
La Manigua Lodge is the best place to reach the beautiful Caño Cristales River, Ciudad de Piedra, El MIrador and many other places in the region.
Juan Pablo and the whole staff take care of any minor detail to make your stay unforgettable.

Complimentary perks include a breakfast buffet, loaner bikes, a 24-hour gym and a yoga area. There are 2 restaurants, 2 bars and a cafe, as well as an outdoor pool and a private beach area. A boat shuttle is offered.
What a unique place, only open since approx 1 1/2 years, still a few teething problems but overall superb and very well designed with some lovely touches.
We arrived by hotel boat from Cartagena which is really when the Las Islas experience begins. Check-in at the dock as well drinks onboard. At hotel arrival each guest is ‘assigned’ a hotel staff to give room key and take you to your room – Damien (English speaker) took us to our Ocean front bungalow and introduced us to the resort. As our bungalow No 3 was close to the Reception, we walked. No3 was extremely well placed for open view, afternoon sun, evening sunset and relative privacy.
it is a really special place. It is a large property with many ‘paths’ can be a bit confusing but there are plenty of maps around and staff / golf carts driving around to point you in the right direction. It’s fun.
Glowing:
Bungalows beautifully and thoughtfully appointed. Superb bathroom with Japanese toilet and all amenities you could require including bottle of insect repellent. Hammock, Nespresso machine (see ‘teething’), ice machine (a first, super impressed!), plenty bottles of water, mini-bar, fruit bowl, air cooling (air-con, ceiling fan, Dyson fan), video screen (in room)/intercom door bell, also a battery portable nightlight. Outside there is also a bell that goes direct to Reception and of course 2 bikes with the number and name of your bungalow -ours was Tres Mosqueteros, charming! Lovely infinity pool, comfortable sun loungers and table/chairs. Night turndown service with extra water bottles & chocolate.
The ‘hotel information’ book on the desk was the most excellent comprehensive I have ever seen, covering just about everything including pics/diagrams how/where to switch on the fan!
Cannot comment on the Treehouse Bungalows but I will say we never saw anyone use their ‘hang out’ area at the base, not very private.
Food was excellent throughout hotel. It is lovely how each meal is served in different restaurant. Breakfast venue was perfection on the water, view, breeze, superb, everything you could possibly wish for to eat and all excellent quality served by smiling friendly helpful staff. Yes, there is only one restaurant for dinner however the menu offers plenty of excellent choice and they would happily cook something special for you if you ask.
Throughout, the local staff in particular were great, really charming and helpful even if their English wasn’t always great it didn’t matter, they smiled, they tried …as I also tried to be understood with my poco espanol!
Hotel offers 3 complimentary activities: cooking class (it was just the 2 of us, made ceviche, nothing complicated but fun to do), night boat trip to experience great phosphorescence in nearby islet (it was fun, especially the speedboat in the dark!) and finally day trip to local island where they have a sister property, we did not do this one.
Beach is narrow but perfect, very comfortable sun loungers, plenty of shade or sun. Complimentary use of canoes/ boards. Warm sea, ‘diving deck’ to swim to with 3 sun loungers on and cool box with some cold drinks! If sea choppy, difficult to climb aboard!
Excellent strength wifi throughout the property.
This unique eco-concept hotel combines treehouse cabanas (jacuzzis) with oceanfront cabanas (private saltwater pools): priced roughly the same, it’s your choice which sounds more exciting. If you love the ocean/pool you can still feel the treetop experience from the clubhouse rooftop bar and if you want to try a treehouse there is a very nice beach area with plenty of seating right at water’s edge, so either way you get the best of both.
The beach and the sea are beautiful, perfect to swim and rooms are uniquely built either on tree tops or by the waterfront. We absolutely loved these luxury and eco friendly vibes combined. The hotel is located close to a natural reserve with many beautiful birds flying over the resort.
Food is delicious – the Peruvian chef is excellent. Service at the restaurants (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is good. Sometimes a bit slow but all waiters are extremely kind and looking to do their best. Waiters tend to have designated clients which is nice as they know your preferences and you get a more customised service. The head of Food and Beverage is an extremely nice and competent woman.
Diving was great too. Beautiful spots in the Rosario islands. We were alone on the hotel’s diving boat with the boat driver and two instructors and had a wonderful experience.
The name of the place is somewhat misleading, as it is really not an “hotel” but a luxurious “eco -resort” , with 55 cabins situated in a mangrove next to the sea, with a club house, three restaurants (breakfast, beach and gourmet), gym, spa, swimming pool, etc.,etc. All facilities are world class and the property is criss-crossed by walking trails and pathways to move around in bicycles or golf cars.
Our cabin, overlooking the Caribbean, was a comfortable small bungalow, with a large room with a king size bed with a very private swimming pool and terrace.
The buffet breakfast is at the Tia Coco, a restaurant by the sea, offering colombian and international delicacies such as tropical fruits ( we loved the passion fruit) , egg “arepas”, french and italian cheeses – delicious- all kinds of breads, omelettes, excellent colombian coffee, etc.,etc.
The gourmet restaurant – located at the “club house- opens for dinner. We found the food was outstanding , which is not surprising given that the chef is from Perú ( peruvians have the best culinary tradition in Latin America), and the full experience was very enjoyable as service was also outstanding. For drinks, we enjoyed excellent Chilean wines watching a caribbean sunset in the bar on the third floor of the”club house.
For relaxation, we enjoyed the “picture perfect” beach – calm and transparent waters with white sand, and very private- no vendors!- we hiked around the trail (two miles) encircling the property, swam in the sea, exercised in the gym, cycled around, slept and enjoyed our private swimming pool.

We have stayed here numerous times and highly recommend this comfortable and eco-friendly Hotel. Well situated near Usaquen with its active restaurant and shopping scene, along with an excellent craft and flea market every Sunday. The hotel itself offers modern and attractive rooms and suites at very reasonable prices, staff are extremely helpful and attentive. Pleasant bar and restaurant with a good buffet breakfast included with your room.
Lovely little eco Hotel, tucked a little out of the way so it means taxi rides everywhere. The staff were extremely friendly, they helped us with directions, taxis and printing boarding passes. The breakfast was nice too. The rooms were very spacious and clean.
Very welcoming helpful staff who spoke English brilliantly, nice suites (we had a jacuzzi in the room) . They have a courtyard garden where they grow their own herbs for use in the drinks. I’d recommend this hotel especially if you care about the environment as their eco-friendly outlook is for real ( wonderful organic sheets ).
Initially, we chose Biohotel Organic Suites due to its proximity to family and events that we were attending, along with a very affordable price. However, once we arrived, we quickly realized that this hotel offered so much more. First the concept – totally organic and eco-friendly, from the bamboo floors to the organic foods they serve, to the living wall in their lounge area where they grow fresh herbs and vegetables. Rooms are clean, modern and have all you could need.
Their food and drink are both top notch – from the excellent breakfast included in your room charge to their dinners (even served with organic wine), and their bartender was named one of the best in Bogota, rightfully so based on our experience!
The hotel was in the mind of the owners and creators for more than four years and the result is astonishing. The use of air to keep it fresh as a whole. Rain water is collected treated and by means of solar panels and sun heater system that runs inside the walls of the structure, keeps the rooms at a nice temperature that can be controlled in each room.
The la huerta bar and it’s mixology bartenders is the best, using natural herbs from the green wall garden of the hotel to create great tasting cocktails. And the rooms have sound and climate proof window panes with a special shade that let you sleep in an absolute darkness. Congratulations to this superb hotel and its creators!
If you are looking for a trendy or environmentally friendly hotel, look no further. As you meander through the halls, sit at the restaurant, or flip through the book in your room, you’ll see plaques and informational tidbits letting you know exactly why this hotel is considered an eco-hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast was larger than most hotel breakfasts.
Additionally, the food served in the restaurant is all organic. The views from the top of the hotel are excellent, and there is an exercise room with equipment that generates electricity as you work out. Although it is a bit of a taxi ride to the historical district, there are lots of restaurants within a ten minute walk. This is the only true eco-hotel I have come across in Colombia, and I look forward to staying there in the future.
