We truly could not have had a better experience than we did with Galapagos EcoFriendly hotel, and the owner, Harry. From the beginning, Harry was communicative, and extremely helpful as we navigated the additional requirements for entry to the Galapagos.

The rooms are immaculately clean and comfortable. The AC is great, and kept the room at whatever temperature we wanted without being loud. The shower has great pressure and consistent hot water. There is even a fridge and microwave in the room. The breakfast area (included in our rate) has some of the best views on the island! The coffee was good, the food fresh and tasty, and Harry was on-hand to chat and give great context for the day’s activities.

Really, if you are looking for the ideal boutique, family-run hotel experience, it really doesn’t get any better than this.

The hotel is located at the edge of town, just a 10 minute walk downhill to the beach where to the shops and restaurants. The room was a bit small but it was large enough for two people and their luggage. The AC got very cold and the TV featured many English stations. NO insects anywhere in the room. The shower water was filtered and got very hot.
Harry and his wife served breakfast every morning on the 3rd floor outdoor terrace overlooking the island. The menu varies each day. Hot breakfast was delightful and the coffee was the best I had on the island.
The property itself is great. It is decorated in a lot of vibrant colors and quirky little touches that make it unique yet comfortable. The entire property is enclosed and locked so you feel safe at all times. The grounds offer nice sitting areas and hammock chairs where you can enjoy relaxing or reading a book from the little library nook.
Breakfast is offered on the third floor in the open patio with amazing views of the town and ocean below. In the evening Harry offers fresh coffee and cookies. They also have bikes free of charge for you to ride into town. The rooms themselves are spacious and clean. They have nice AC, TVs, comfortable beds and a mini fridge/microwave. The property also has free Wi-Fi, at no fault of theirs, it is not the best, as we found with most places on the island.

We’re so glad we chose to stay at the Galapagos Eco Friendly. It is a clean, vibrant and friendly place, built using sustainable materials with bright and interesting decor reflecting the local culture and environment.

It has spacious rooms, comfortable beds, reliable air con, working Wifi and hot water. We loved the outdoor seating with hammocks and chairs to relax in, as well as the hot tub. It’s just a 10 minute walk (or a short, $2 taxi ride) from the main street, in a safe and friendly area.

Harry and Lucrecia are brilliant, attentive hosts, passionate about sustainability and highly accommodating of guests needs.

2. Galapagos Habitat by Eco Luxury Group 3* – Eco Friendly Hotels Galapagos

Galapagos Habitat by Eco Luxury Group
Galapagos Habitat by Eco Luxury Group

On a bay overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this understated lodging with lush surroundings is a 10-minute walk from Charles Darwin Research Station and 5 km from Tortuga Bay.

Located among mangroves, minimalist rooms have wood-slatted ceilings and Wi-Fi, along with cable TV, air-conditioning and safes. Upgraded rooms have balconies and ocean views, and suites add sitting areas.

There’s a casual bar, and a relaxed restaurant on the waterfront. Other amenities include mangrove forests, an outdoor pool and a dive shop.

he setting is sort of jungle eco-lodge with an assortment of rooms on the ground and second floors. The air conditioning worked well and the showers were nice too. There is a small mini fridge with a limited selection of drinks and snacks which are complimentary. If you want more, then you are charged.

My room was next to the sun deck that has been appropriated by the sea lions, which made sure I did not miss a moment of Galapagos daylight by announcing their presence at around 6:30am each morning. The sea lions are so prevalent that the room across from me had a sea lion that would lay right outside their door, which made coming and going a bit tricky at times. Personally I enjoyed the local fauna, iguanas are abundant too. The staff was friendly and helpful, when they can be.

I found the restaurant food excellent with good variety and the water views are lovely. I especially liked the Blackberry daiquiris and all the fun weird fruit juices at breakfast.

The hotel is a lovely eco lodge as you can see from the pictures on their website. There restaurant was great. We ate a number of meals there and they were extremely good and the prices were very reasonable. But the real story is how wonderful the staff is. The hotel staff are very, very friendly and genuine. The go way out of their way to ensure that the atmosphere was warm and inviting and your stay is great.

This hotel is an eco hotel in the Galapagos Islands.

The rooms are simply furnished and elegant but definitely not plush luxury. I think they suit their location extremely well. The bathrooms are supplied with L’occitane products and have the best water pressure of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

The hotel comes with sea-lions, red crabs and marine iguanas on their own deck (suitably separated from the paying guests by a low fence). They are noisy at times and smell a bit, but it’s the Galapagos, that’s what you’re there for.

It is built in a mangrove forest at the edge of town so it’s quiet and there is an element of earthiness to the place.

This is a most interesting and unique hotel.

In the southeastern corner of Puerto Ayora a wooden boardwalk leads you into the mangroves, romantically lit at night, where the unique rooms of the two story, ecofriendly, Red Mangrove Lodge have been created. Each room is unique – ours was bright, spacious, clean, good hot shower, air conditioners, and an ample private terrace. We stayed a week.

The lounge boasts beautiful views of the bay and an outdoor patio that is home to marine iguanas, sea lions, seals, pelicans, crabs, and finches. In this nature environment you will need to adjust to strange noises of creatures and dropping branches and seeds during the night, and unusual odours from the mangrove waters.

3. Pikaia Lodge 3* – Eco Friendly Hotels Galapagos

Pikaia Lodge
Pikaia Lodge

On top of volcanic craters overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this luxury, carbon neutral eco-lodge in a striking steel and lava stone building is 8 km from Cerro Crocket and El Garrapatero beach.

Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces or balconies with panoramic views, the elegant rooms offer flat-screen TVs, DVD players and minibars. Suites add sitting areas, sofa beds and private gardens; some have plunge pools. Room service is available.

A sleek restaurant offers views over the Galapagos National Park. Other amenities include 2 chic lounges, a zen-style spa and an infinity pool. Day tours on a private yacht are offered.

The Galapagos Islands nicknamed the “Enchanted Islands” and described as the “Last Paradise on Earth” is a truly memorable experience. The Pikaia Lodge concept is a luxury land based eco-adventure with the highest level of comfort and services. We offer an experience like no other, in a place like no other, where the guest will encounter some truly fascinating unforgettable moments.
Designed for the physically active adventure traveler, who seek close contact with the incredible wildlife, stunning views and the overall beauty that surrounds the Galapagos Islands. At Pikaia Lodge we offer 3-7 night packages, which are ALL inclusive. Complemented by our very own land and marine explorations aboard our exclusive private yacht.

The hotel is beautiful, very well appointed and spotlessly clean. Eco friendly and carbon neutral.

Our room was spacious and had a garden/mountain view. The bathroom and dressing room were large and there was a separate seating area. The weather was very mixed when we were staying so we didn’t really get to make the most of our terrace, but it was also spacious.

The communal areas were, as the rooms, well appointed and spotlessly clean. Pretty much every part of the hotel has a spectacular view.

The service was very attentive and friendly throughout the hotel, although as we were often the only people in the bar and the restaurant it could have become a little over attentive. The prices for food and drink weren’t bad considering you are basically a captive audience unless you taxi in to Puerto Ayora.
What a lovely lodge. After Mashpi lodge in the Rainforest I did not think that we would be once again so happily surprised. This eco carbon free luxury lodge overlooking the Pacific on the top of a volcano is breathtaking. Situated on Isla Santa cruz a 20 min drive away from the town centre the property is surrounded by peace calm and a stunning view. I loved everything about Pikaia! Great food attentive staff and what a view from our bedroom.
This eco-friendly 14-room boutique hotel is one more jaw-dropping example that luxury and a conscience do combine. It was designed and built for the environmentally conscious and adventurous traveler by combining high levels of comfort in a remote location (on top of a mountain surrounded by mesmerizing layers of nature) with a unique design that runs on solar energy for electricity and water heating, collects rainwater, and treats wastewater and reuses it for irrigation. Pikaia is also reducing its footprint even further with a design focused on natural light and air circulation, and a restaurant that serves an organic food menu with vegan and vegetarian options.
Now, imagine all that topped with daily animal freedom-oriented adventures! Yes! That’s exactly what we did! Every morning the hotel had scheduled an entire day of activities around the islands. From hiking next to iguanas and the famous blue-footed booby, to snorkeling with white tip sharks, rays, sea lions, hundreds of different fishes, and penguins. I honestly felt I was playing a role in the Jungle Book! It was surreal.
An eco-friendly hotel with one of the most breathtaking architectures I’ve seen. The solar panels were on top of each villa combining mindfulness of mother earth with a modern design. And my room….my God, my room! It had tall glass windows that framed the bedroom area. This allowed guests to wake up every morning with the rays of the sun and the magnificent view of the 15 acres of elephant grass and huge trees! The bathroom had a shower and a tub both looking straight into paradise, as well. I spent my first day at Pikaia relaxing, enjoying the views, walking around the hotel, and submerging into its outdoors heated infinity pool and its indoors Jacuzzi- both with mind blowing sceneries.
To know:
-Take a hat and eco-friendly sunblock with you!!!! The UV rays there are intense! I forgot my hat and had to ask the hotel for one before I turned into ashes!
-Take comfy sneakers, shorts, short and long-sleeve tees and swimsuits! (This I did. Thank God!)
-Order your vegan/vegetarian options ahead of time
-Watch the Galapagos documentary the hotel offers every night in their movie room. It will leave you speechless and teach you things about Galapagos, Darwin’s theories, and the animals you probably never imagined! Watch it prior to the excursions to know what to expect.
-GO SNORKELING!
