An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Eco Friendly Hotels Guatemala are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Guatemala City and then beyond in Guatemala.

Guatemala’s main environmental problems are deforestation—over 50% of the nation’s forests have been destroyed since 1890—and consequent soil erosion. As recently as 1993, the nation obtained 90% of its energy from wood, losing 40,000-60,000 hectares of forest per year.
Popular ecotourism sites include Cerro Cahuí Nature Reserve, with 1,600 acres of jungle hosting howler monkeys and ocellated turkeys, and the Tortuguerio Monterrico Wildlife Reserve, where visitors get up close with giant sea turtles, tortoises, iguanas and alligators

1. Laguna Lodge Eco-Resort & Nature Reserve 5* – Eco Friendly Resorts Guatemala

Laguna Lodge Eco-Resort & Nature Reserve

Located just outside Santa Cruz La Laguna, this hotel offers free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool, views of Lake Atitlan and the 3 volcanoes beyond. Its Hummingbird spa has a gym and hot tub.

The charming, spacious suites at the Laguna Lodge Eco-Resort & Nature Reserve feature wooden floors and a private balcony or terrace with fantastic views. Each one includes indigenous antiques, a minibar and a private bathroom with bathrobes.

Laguna Lodge’s award-winning Zotz Restaurant serves international cuisine using fresh, organic produce. The Lava Bar serves cocktails against the spectacular backdrop of Lake Atitlan.

On Lake Atitlan in a reserve overlooking Volcán San Pedro, this posh hotel occupies a striking, thatched-roof building, and is a 15-minute walk from Museo Arqueológico Azul Maya.

Featuring lake-view balconies, the 7 exotic suites offer handmade beds and indigenous antiques, as well as free Wi-Fi, desks and minibars. Some have separate sitting areas, while a chic duplex villa adds extra bedrooms and living space. Room service is provided.

Situated right on the shores of lake Atitlan In Guatemala, is a boutique resort with unforgettable views and amenities. Our family took advantage of the hiking on their safe private nature reserve, took a dip in the handmade stone hot tub with Mayan jungle ambiance, and laid out by the pool overlooking the lake.

All that being said, I haven’t even talked about the most extraordinary part! This little slice of paradise is a sustainable eco-lodge!

The hotel has a lakefront restaurant with a chic bar. There’s also a spa with an infinity pool, a gym and wellness treatments. Activities like volcano hiking are available. Kids 13 years and older are welcome.

The Laguna Lodge is on the lakeshore of the legendary Lake Atitlan and exclusively nestled in its own nature reserve. Entry into this Mayan world begins by boat. In a privileged setting our luxuriously natural 5 star boutique hotel commands sweeping views over azure waters to a trio of dramatic volcanoes. Inspired by nature and created from volcanic stone, adobe and palm our spacious lakeside suites are individually appointed with comfortable hand hewn king beds, fine linens, intricate woven textiles and indigenous antiques.

First and most importantly, Laguna is a an eco lodge that prioritizes sustainability over profit 100% of the time. If you value our planet, seeking out locations that practice sustainable hospitality should be important to you. Sustainable travel is the ONLY way to go moving forward – our planet depends on it. Laguna uses solar energy to power their hotel, serves a vegetarian menu (evidence shows that a plant based diet drastically decreases our carbon footprint), and has locally sourced every item in their hotel!

Their eggs are from the village near by, their produce is grown locally, the bed runners were woven by local Mayan women, their staff (who is more like family) are all local and have been a part of their team for decades. Every little detail has been thought of and it is all part of their sustainable design.

🌅 The views. San Pedro volcano towers in the distance along with Atitlan and Toliman. We had coffee every morningoverlookingg the lake, and sat on our deck to soak in the sunset every evening. I never once tired of the jaw dropping views.

🥾 The hiking. Laguna lodge is home to its very own nature preserve. A network of safe hiking trails are accessible right from the lodge. We enjoyed hiking up over the ridge, and lounging in the hammocks they have set up. Additionally, you can arrange a guided hike up the volcanoes or several other hikes right from the front desk.

🚣 The water activities. Kayaking or paddle boarding this lake is an incredible experience. The water is calmest in the mornings, and the quiet that covers the lake is therapeutic.

💫The amenities. After a day of hiking nothing feels better than a dip in their gorgeous infinity pool, followed by a soak in the river rock hot tub.

Laguna Lodge was one of our very favorite locations – I know you will just love it too.

The lodge is made from adobe in a hacienda style and furnished with a unique eco-lux ambience. The restaurant was extraordinary and the menus varied and to top it off were served by lovely Glenda and Francisco. Our suite the quetzal was spacious and immaculately presented with views directly over the water to the volcanos, magical sunsets included! We will be back and recommending this special place to our friends and fam, 5 star service from a 5 star eco-lodge.

The property is amazing! The nature preserve was very hikeable and private- there are several short trail options that branch off the main loop, some do need a little maintenance and clearing. We hiked up top for sunrise and it was well marked with viewing platform and hammocks that look toward Panajachel, Santiago and towns and volcanos in between. Room, service, and amenities were wonderful. Hot tub costs extra to use but being an eco-lodge they do not just leave the tub running and hot all the time which makes sense!

The pool, lounge chairs, deck and dock look out over the lake and are spacious, comfortable and perfect for hanging out or watching the sunset.

2. Lush Atitlan 3* – Eco Friendly Hotels Guatemala

Eco Friendly Hotels Guatemala

Lush Atitlan is set in San Marcos La Laguna, 12 km from Panajachel.

Some rooms feature a seating area where you can relax. There is 100% cotton bedding in the rooms. Views of the mountain, lake or garden are also featured in certain rooms. Rooms come with a private bathroom.

You will find a 24-hour front desk at the property, as well as concierge and boutique service.

Individually furnished rooms & suites in a polished lakefront hotel with a free breakfast buffet.

Lush is ideally located on a hillside on the shores of spectacular Lake Atitlán in San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala. The hotel has 10 unique rooms and suites, each one individually designed, with one-of-a-kind art works and locally made furniture. All of the rooms boast of incredible views of the lake and surrounding volcanoes, a private terrace or balcony, offering guests a harmonious balance with the surrounding nature.

Lush is one of the most beautifully authentic hotels you can experience on Lake Atitlan! Here I could feel a perfect blend between luxury and eco-consciousness. I’ve stayed a few times and appreciate that the hotel hires all local staff, protects the environment (down to the critters) and has the MOST gorgeous views. I felt nestled amongst nature and very peaceful during every stay. I highly recommend for those who appreciate an elevated yet organic travel experience! The cozy beds, comfy sheets and breakfast will keep me coming again and again.

This is a place full of foliage, fresh air, a few critters, and a serene atmosphere. It is stunning. You should get a room with a balcony or outdoor kitchen or shower. It’s amazing. We stayed in the Pescado room. The bedroom and bathroom are very small but the upstairs is open and breathtaking. We spent most of our time on our upstairs terrace. Spacious and so peaceful. The bathroom is the most rustic part.

Ours was made out of rock. The water pressure is very low & occasionally shuts off mid shower, but that’s to be expected. Do not bring a suitcase; we would say this is a backpack only kind of place. There’s about a 300 meter trek down from the street (its a lovely walk!) but would be challenging to do with a suitcase. Breakfast is very simple and the same every day which got a bit tiring after 4 days. The coffee and juice are delightful.

The WiFi is weak and it had nothing to do with weather as it was sunny and not windy when we were there. We heard other guests talking about this too, so just prepare your loved ones that you may not be in touch while you are at Lush. The staff are friendly and most of the people around Lush (guests) have a bohemian feel. This is a hippy town and has a great vibe. Head into the walking streets, pet the cute dogs, and eat delicious local food for great prices.

Pay the 15Q ($3 Canadian) to go to the park next door – Huge platforms to jump off, kayaks to rent for reasonable prices, and an amazing opportunity to swim in the lake. Lush is not right on the lake, but very close(2 min walk).

Amazing location, beautiful rooms with breathtaking views, cool design and the best of all is how they built this hotel 100% eco. Just loved it! What a hidden gem.

This is by far the best hotel in San Marcos! The staff was extremely helpful and kind. The breakfast is unbelievably fresh and I highly recommend you try their handmade jelly. The hotel is very eco-friendly, in some cases even using the naturally placed mountain rocks for a wall. They recycling everything possible for reuse or as cleverly crafted decorations.

The hotel is swallowed by a wonderful tropical garden. The tranquility felt in this hotel is unequaled in Atitlan not to mention is a 1 min walk to the a National Park where kayaking, mini cliff-jumping and hiking is available. And the view…WOW.

Amazing spot. Serious luxury and views to die for. Eco friendly which was great to see. Multiple places to relax. Great swimming areas.beautiful flowers. Excellent food. All in all, represents great value.

Beautiful views, our bed looked out over the lake with a view of the volcanoes. It is well run hotel with interesting decor and Eco friendly. The food is delicious especially the breakfasts! There are lots of nice local walks and we had a great evening watching the moon rise over the mountains, drinking wine in the hot tub and swimming in the lake under the stars.

What a wonderful place! This is an eco-friendly, artfully designed hotel graciously overlooking the wondrous Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Most of the rooms are really like private casitas, all have water vistas or a balcony that hangs over the lake. Half the fun of being here is wondering the property and discovering little garden grottos for sitting, dreaming, meditating…. The other fun half is meeting people from all over the world and hearing about their journeys over family style dining in the restaurant lodge.

Pros:
Idyllic location, simple yet modern amenities. Eco friendly and very nicely maintained. Lush gardens set in cliffs. Colorful and bright! Price to value ratio is exceptional! It’s quiet, picturesque and you are truly able to disconnect!

In a forest with panoramic views of the Guatemalan volcanoes, this laid-back mountainside lodge on a working avocado farm is 8 km from the city of Antigua Guatemala and 36 km from La Aurora International Airport.

A low-key dorm with wood floors and bunk beds provides lockers and shared bathrooms. Upgraded quarters range from colorful A-frame cabins to rustic split-level treehouses, and add en suite facilities and furnished balconies, some with hammocks.

Amenities include a casual restaurant/bar, a sauna, and a lounge with a TV. There’s a terrace and a kids’ playground. Breakfast and yoga are offered. Campsites are also available.

Earth Lodge is a mountain lodge, yoga destination, restaurant and organic avocado farm located about 7km outside Antigua, Guatemala. We are known for our intimate setting, our amazing home cooked meals and our clean comfortable rooms. Perfect for nature lovers, Earth Lodge has one of the best views in Guatemala with 3 volcanoes visible in the valley below. Earth Lodge has a full restaurant and bar, serving breakfast and lunch from menus and a family style dinner each night. We are a family friendly establishment, with a full playground and field for children to play.
There is ample hiking in the surrounding farm fields, plus a wide array of board games, books and movies to keep you entertained. We offer yoga classes everyday in our brand new yoga studio!
We booked the treehouse which was worth every cent! Waking up to those views was not only the highlight of our stay, it was the highlight of our whole trip to Guatemala. The grounds were absolutely stunning and have incredible views of Volcán de Fuego. We enjoyed eating breakfast in the cafe/lobby area, surrounded by the avocado trees and views of Antigua. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, which certainly made our stay that extra bit special. There’s plenty of things to do at the lodge to keep you occupied. We used the sauna, played some frisbee, basketball and darts. But in all honesty, you could spend your days just looking at the mountains and volcanoes if you wanted. It was a quick 20 minute drive into town which was convenient to grab a coffee or do a bit of shopping. We also enjoyed their contribution to a more sustainable lifestyle as we are both vegan, so thoroughly enjoyed the vegan options on the menu and the eco friendly products they had for sale.
We bought the natural bug repellent which we love! Absolutely wonderful stay, we can’t wait to come back!

Or the most beautiful sleeping place in Antigua, you have to be at Earth Lodge. Just outside the city and at 1,800 meters altitude Earth Lodge offers the most beautiful volcano views, tastiest vegan meals, morning yoga and amazing (tree) huts.

The eco friendly Earth Lodge is an oasis of tranquility near bustling Antigua. Here you’ll find silence, with an exception for the sounds of playing dogs and the eruption of the Fuego volcano. You’ll sleep in absolutely lovely cabins you might have dreamed of as a child. Impressive tree houses, A-shape mountain huts or even in semi-luxury tents.

The eco-friendly cabins nestle snugly among the flora and fauna and at 1800 m above sea level, the air is pure and the birdsong melodious; the only thing you need concern yourself with is whether to take a yoga class, play ping-pong, have a sauna, read in a hammock… or simply treat your tongue and taste buds to one of Briana’s devilishly delicious kitchen creations or cocktails. Tell your mouth to bid farewell to innocence…
Getting to Earth Lodge from Antigua is simple and straightforward… up to a point: up to a point some 200 m above the site, to be specific. But the final part of the journey – a picturesque winding descent along a dirt track next the avocado farm – ensures that only the most deserving get to enjoy all the site’s views, food, sounds and fragrances… or the mirth and kindness of Briana, her family and her wonderful staff. A truly wonderful week.
The Earth Lodge (now Eco Lodge) is a unique place. Up a tiny mountain road, followed by hiking the last few hundred meters downhill (UP hill to return!) We were pleasantly surprised by this mountainside oasis! It seemed there were folks there just enjoying the tranquility, some folks with a yoga retreat, and perhaps others just exploring! It’s an earthy place, with minimalist eco-style amenities.

Hotelito Perdido is a boutique jungle eco lodge situated in the heart of the Rio Dulce National Park, tucked away on one of the small freshwater tributaries that feed the Rio Dulce. Although it feels like a million miles from anywhere, being just off the popular tourist route between Livingston and the town of Rio Dulce means that the hotel is easily accessible by boat. Both Lonely Planet and Rough Guide currently list the hotel as one of their ‘recommended destinations’ in the region. The hot springs, the manatee reserve and some beautiful waterfalls are within kayaking distance of the hotel. We rent kayaks and wooden cayucos, we organize various tours (to Livingston, Tiger’s Cave, Mayan Q’eqchi village, Manatee Reserve etc.). We offer drinks, homemade food, we make our own bread and we eat our evening meal together, family style. There is dock to swim from, Gym and Yoga House for guests to use, beautiful tropical gardens with fruit trees, plenty of hammocks to relax in, games to play and good books to read.

There is communal house with bar, lounge and restaurant, there is a b-b-q area and hammock house by the dock. The hotel can currently accommodate 14 guests. We offer bungalows with private bathrooms, rooms and the Jungle Loft with 5 beds. The hotel is fully solar powered.

The Rio Dulce region is absolutely the most stunning area of the entire country. It is a pain in the butt to get to but so worth the effort. Hotelito Perdido is amazing and somehow manages to be this Eco friendly, organic/rustic looking lodge on the river, but at the same time is so comfortable and clean and beautiful. The huts are cute, the grounds gorgeous, staff are all so friendly and wonderful, and it is the most peaceful and relaxing place you will find. There is a yoga hut and hammocks. A dock to swim off of. You must come stay here, but there are a few things to know.
1) it is an effort (and not cheap) to get here. Check with Hotelito and the accommodations you plan to come from about transportation options to and from the river before cementing your itinerary. You need to connect with the boats from Rio Dulce town that go down the river toward Livingston. The boat only goes at 9am and 2:30pm- that is it and it costs 125Q. If you can’t get the last boat at 14:30 and need a private boat it is 500Q ( this is expensive and not just in Guatemalan terms). From experience, if you are coming from Copan, there are no morning shuttles so you can’t make the 14:30 boat in time. You have to take varies modes of local transport and leave very early. Best to sort out you options in advance, might be easier to come from Antigua/ Guatemala City. Also seems easier coming from Punta Gourda in Belize. Also first boat doesn’t get you back to Rio Dulce until 11am when you leave the lodge.
2) All food at the Hotelito is brought in by boat, so understandably they have a limited menu, and while the food isn’t expensive it is more than we paid in the average town.

The food is fresh and good, but I found the portions small. I know they don’t love people bring much food but I would recommend bringing some reinforcements. You can’t have food in the rooms due to critters but it is kept in a secure container you can access whenever needed

3)Spend the extra money for a private bungalow. Trust me. The shared bathroom rooms are fine and the bathroom is super clean, but the rooms are in a duplex style hut.

This means all that separates you and your neighbor is a thin wooden wall. You can literally hear your neighbours breath. Zero privacy, so unless you are coming in a big group to use both rooms, or you are use to doing the dorm room thing, get a bungalow instead.

3) Not going to be the cheapest part of your trip, the boat costs add up but it is worth budgeting for, for sure. Loved it here.
