Evolve Back’s (the new name of Orange County) ‘Spirit of the Land’ philosophy finds its most intimate expression at the Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge, Kabini or Evolve Back, Kabini (the new name of Orange County, Kabini). While you are cradled in the lap of luxury, the resort gives you a wildlife experience like no other, and enjoins you to be part of the vibrant social tapestry of the local Kadu Kuruba tribe. Steeped in local culture, and inspired in design by the Hadis (tribal villages), this picturesque resort is bordered on two sides by Kabini River.
The place offers a lot for wildlife enthusiasts. You not only get to see the forests but also enjoy the river fauna. We also took the dinner boat cruise. It was lovely and quite romantic.
The resort is very focused on sustainability. They use a lot of local and eco friendly materials. There is hardly any thing we saw made /packed in plastic!!
Evolve Back is a chain of resorts run by the family over generations. You see that warmth, continuity and personal touch/attention in all their dealings.
Hospitality and service here is just awesome. We were welcomed with a traditional and local song. They made sure our rooms were clean and sanitized well before we occupied. The house keeping staff make sure that your room and surrounding is always clean. You are always welcomed with a namaskara wherever you go.Pool huts and safari huts are super spacious.
Jacuzzi is awesome for a 4 year kid to play. Swimming pool and jacuzzi was always cleaned. You wake up to the sound of the birds chirping, the smell of the earth. We even had a bird build its nest outside our room. It’s full of green cover outside, the infinity pool, the reading lunge, the sunset view from the reading lounge is mesmerizing. Boat ride, coracle ride on the river Kabini is another amazing experience. Safari ride thru the forest is one of its kind experience.
The staff here are extremely cooperative. You just need to make a call for any issue and it will be resolved. Evolve back, Kabini resort is perfectly playing it’s part in being eco friendly and saving the planet. All structures here are of wood and no plastic. Online menu, RO water in room, fresh fruits , clean room and surrounding.
Food is yummy , a new menu everyday and awesome taste. Amazing staff right from the manager , to the front desk, departure lounge , waiters and housekeeping staff. Loved the hospitality here. We have enjoyed our stay here and it’s an unforgettable experience.

This place transports one to another world – a world of birds, rivers, eco friendly roofs, finger licking good food all packaged in a super warm environment! Three days there and we all got a glimpse of heaven!!!! Innumerable birds…Old trees that each nested a 100 birds….

From a thrilling forest safari to Cycling in the meadows to chilling in the pool to winding down with a coffee and a book in the reading lounge….it was a perfect stay!!!

Evolve Back Kabini was truly a paradise amongst the wilderness of Kabini offering an Eco Friendly but highly Luxurious stay.
We stayed at both the Safari Hut and the Pool hut which was given to us on the last night of our stay as a complimentary upgrade. The rooms were well maintained, clean and well sanitised. Both the Pool and the Jacuzzi respectively were clean and well maintained. Even though we spent most of our time outdoors with us coming back to our rooms only after an evening safari/activity, our rooms were the best part of our stay where we often relaxed by the pool/jacuzzi or in the sit out.
The House Keeping staff were also working tirelessly and to the best of their abilities to ensure that our rooms were always something to look forward too after a tiring day of activities.

The food was phenomenal. We particularly enjoyed the Kuruba style dishes of the lot and it was a welcome change from the regular cuisine we often eat. The Honeycomb restaurant was well maintained and I would like to thank Mr Johnson from the restaurant staff who was ever present throughout the 4 days catering to all our needs and serving us some of the best dishes the restaurant could offer. I loved how everyone at all the restaurants and the bar always served us with a smile. We often looked forward to our meals just for the service and the experience. The experience at the Kuruba Grill on our final night at Evolve Back was fantastic and memorable.

Finally I have to commend the resort management on how beautiful the resort is. Full of trees, birds and insects everywhere. It was a beautiful sight to witness indeed with the occasional critter visit to our rooms which we enjoyed too. I saw a team effort at Evolve Back Kabini and this effort was the reason why we were able to come back home, relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated. My best wishes to the management and the staff at Evolve Back Kabini for their fantastic service. I will definitely be back soon.

2. Marari Beach – CGH Earth 5* – Eco Friendly Hotels Kerala India

Marari Beach - CGH Earth
Marari Beach – CGH Earth

Marari Beach Resort offers a sea-side village experience. Located 6 mi from Alleppey and 9 mi from Kumarakom, it has an outdoor pool while beachside dining is available.

The spacious and airy villas have an authentic thatched roofing and come with full length windows, partly opened bathrooms and a private pool or garden views. Each includes a safety deposit box, kettle and mini-bar.

Guests can savor the fresh catch of the day grilled to perfection at the Beach Grill restaurant, and indulge in multi-cuisine delicacies at Chakara restaurant. There is a Palm Shack for organized special dinners.

Marari Beach sprawls across 55 acres of lawns, far-flung lotus ponds and whispering coconut groves, all threaded through with stone- flagged pathways. Living: Modelled on the fishermans’ dwellings of Mararikulam, your accommodations are a fine balance between traditional form and modern function. Dining: At Marari Beach, you can enjoy the simple traditional dishes of the fisherfolk (along with, of course , a variety of international cuisine favourites) at our verandah- style restaurant.
Dinners are candlelit, often with live music. Healing: Marari Beach has a fully equipped ayurvedic centre, so you can get all the benefits of this ancient system of medicine. Put yourself in the hands of our expert masseuses and you’ll feel reborn. There are also regular yoga classes on the beach, in the thick of a cool coconut grove. The locale, we’re told, does wonders for your inner serenity. Need we say more?

If you are looking for a beautiful, eco-sensitive resort with all the trappings of a high quality hotel then Marari is the place for you.

Set in acres of landscaped and carefully thought out grounds, and surrounded by an abundance of wildlife (and with a resident naturalist available to show you around) the individual villas are comfortable, very clean and enjoy the quirkiness of an “outside bathroom”.

The main restaurant buffet is comprehensive and there should be something there for everyone – if you are into pastries and desserts then you will be especially happy. The serving staff seem to be under a bit of pressure at times, and there were occasions when there were delays, but they were helpful and keen to help.

This is a very well run and eco-friendly resort. It is unusual to begin your stay at a hotel with a tour of the sewage works and biodigester, but that is what we chose to do (it’s not compulsory!). It was fascinating. The individual bungalows are decorated to a high standard and are very roomy. The bathrooms are in enclosed courtyards open to the sky, yet completely private.
There is a large and well maintained swimming pool as well as the sea just over the dunes. The coconut palm fringed beach is beautiful. The grounds are full of birds and stunning butterflies and there are interesting tours with a naturalist available. The food in the restaurant is top class and there is a mixture of Indian and Western food styles. The staff are very helpful and pleasant although occasionally service in the restaurant was a bit hit and miss!
One of best Hotels visited. 62 thatched cottages in beautiful grounds inland by beach.
Eco friendly Hotel offering superb salt water swimming pool and lots on offer to do as much or little as you want to help you relax and chill out which we did.Thoroughly spoilt in dining room with beautiful fresh, home grown fruit and vegetables and freshly caught fish locally. Staff very helpful and friendly.
The hotel itself promotes eco living, the food is organic, home grown and cooked to a high standard. We loved that the guys who attended to us brought little treats for us to try, encouraging us to try different flavours and textures, attentive to my vegetarian preferences. The rooms are spacious, pretty and comfortable and I particularly liked the open air bathroom/shower.
There is nothing to beat hearing the sound of birds whilst showering in the open air! The hotel pool is mineral water which is much kinder to skin and hair than chlorine. Drinking water is filtered and provided onsite in glass bottles – plastic is discouraged. The bar staff are fun and friendly, they made us welcome.
The Marari Beach was bigger and more of a resort hotel than the others we had stayed at. But it still had great eco-credentials (enormous oxygenated freshwater pool, recycling paper, bio-plant, using glass rather than plastics). The well appointed thatched villas are shaded by trees of all shapes and sizes – the highlight being the outdoor bathrooms with great showers.
Visiting at a hot time of year, we loved the non-stop supply of chilled water and flannels provided by the pool bar staff. As for the restaurant, we consistently enjoyed the best food we had enjoyed on our trip – and that is praise indeed considering the food we savoured! You could eat from the buffet each evening for a set price – or eat ‘a la carte’ which we did most evenings.
The variety of dishes was terrific so we never got bored – and the chefs would cook to our tastes (I love hot and spicy, others milder but more fruity). The service was nothing short of exceptional at a time when the resort was busy – and we could not praise the wonderful young team of restaurant staff enough. They made our stay so special and always had a smile and joke no matter how many shifts they’d put in. The beach restaurant was also great for lunch set amongst the palms close to the vast deserted white sandy beach and shimmering blue ocean.
An eco friendly resort set in beautiful organic grounds with scores of butterflies & birds. A naturalist does informative tours and during our stay he led a clean up of the beach outside the hotel.

3. Chamba Camp Thiksey 5* – Eco Friendly Hotels India

Chamba Camp Thiksey
Chamba Camp Thiksey
Recreate the magic of old world charm with canvas luxury at quite another level with our luxury camps in India. From the land of the Lamas, Thiksey Monastery welcomes the adventurous traveller to their unique camp, the Chamba Camp, Thiksey. The Ultimate Travelling Camp introduces glamping in India through its Ladakh tour packages. The Chamba Camp at Thiksey creates once in a lifetime experiences – watch a game of polo, a sport of the Royals of Ladakh, raft down the River Indus, enjoy picnic lunches amidst the most picturesque spots with unforgettable views and much much more.
Ladakh the very name conjures up visions of a spectrum of stunning, vibrant colours, ancient monasteries, cobalt blue lakes, high altitude passes and nomadic tribes with their Pashmina goats across an arid landscape surrounded by snow-capped mountains. At the Chamba Camp, Thiksey, relax in individually designed tents, with en-suite bathrooms, private decks, crisp linen and the services of your very own butler. Enjoy delicious family recipes, hear stories from specialists and guest travelogists over fire-lit evenings. Celebrate special occasions with friends and families – a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday, under a million stars.
Everything about the camp was perfect; the tents, ambience, food and service with special mention to Jemet at reception and waiter, Shabham (hope I have spelt it right). We enjoyed playing a game of croquet. It was lovely to hear the monks chanting from Thiksey monastery in the early morning. It was a pleasure to watch traditional dances while having scrumptious barbecued canapés on our first evening there.
This is a true luxury camp about 19 kms from the Leh airport. The 18 plush tents have heaters, 4 poster beds, plush decor and a comfortable bathroom. It’s a tent with luxury. It comes with a valet. The reception cum lounge is a separate tent as us the dining room. They warm welcome with cold towels and warm kahwa tea is exciting each time.
The package we took care with a dedicated car, guide and driver who stayed with us for all 7 days and were knowledgeable and caring folks. The staff is well trained and responsive.
Each meal is separately curated. Their Indian food was better and enjoyable. No liquor is served or allowed as the camp is on the grounds of the Thiksey monastery which forms a great backdrop besides the snow capped mountains. A real delight to be here.
This is Ultimate Luxury that I have ever experienced . I loved the stay. They do more than they commit. Each member of this camp knows their job. Food they served still tingles on my tongue. I was pampered like anything. I felt I am lying in the lap of Mother Nature, patting me and loving me from core of her heart. This camp is a destination in itself where I would love to go again and again. The feeling was, “On the Top of the World At the Top of the World.

Chamba Camp Thiksey brings glamping to Leh. The tents are imported from South Africa and are luxurious, with heating and aircon, wood flooring and en suite bathrooms with running hot water. Each tent comes with a butler and the restaurant offers excellent service and fairly good food. Considering that all the other properties in Leh are 3-star at best, this is clearly the best place to stay near Leh at this time.

If you get a chance, select tents with single digit numbers as they are in a better location in the property and have better views. A couple of new tents are planned for next year and are expected to be less luxurious than the current ones, so selection of tents is important in order to get the best value for money.

Service levels at the property are overall very good but, as is often the case in India, somewhat inconsistent. The restaurant has generally good service, and we had an excellent tour guide arranged by the camp, but the tour manager was mediocre at best. If we were to go there again, we will organize our tours ourselves and not through the hotel.

This camp has a sister camp in a stunning Nubra valley, and that camp is also very good but less luxurious than this one.

5. Kanha Earth Lodge 5* – Eco Lodges India

Kanha Earth Lodge
Kanha Earth Lodge

Nestled away in forest, located barely 500 m away from Kanha National Park, Kanha Earth Lodge features a swimming pool and offers accommodation with subtle jungle experience. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

Each air-conditioned room is fitted with a seating area and wardrobe. The attached bathroom comes with a bathtub, free toiletries and shower.

The city of Gondia is 140 km from Kanha Earth away while the city of Jabalpur, Bilaspur, Raipur and Pench National Park are within 180 km away. The Jabalpur Airport and Jabalpur Railway Station are 180 km away.

India’s finest Wilderness Experience, Kanha Earth Lodge, is spread in 16 acres of natural forest, tucked away in a small hamlet bordering Kanha’s buffer zone. Its unique location, 30 minutes from the Khatia/Kisli park gate, ensures that it is close enough for easy access to the park, but still far enough from the glut of hotels lining Kanha’s tourist hub to offer guests a true wilderness experience.
The 12 luxury bungalows with large open verandahs of this Wildlife Resort in Kanha National Park have been inspired by Gond tribal architecture and offer environmentally sensitive, low-impact accommodation through their design and use of local stone and waste wood. While the absence of neighbouring lodges or highways creates an ideal setting for nature walks, birding and cycling trips through the surrounding forest.

KEL is one of the most eco-friendly, and secluded properties in Kanha, and you really feel at one with the forest while staying there. Its the perfect place to unwind and relax. They have 12 beautiful earth cottages spread out over 16 acres of lush greenery. When we walked into our private cottage, our jaws dropped- such character, such charm, quaint yet luxurious. The main lodge area is also a lovely place to lounge, decorated with absolute authenticity. There is lots to do within the property itself: they have an awesome organic vegetable garden, tended with love, a butterfly garden, and a natural tree trail winding through the lodge. The food was par excellence, happy tummies: happy family!

They offer many excursions also- do enquire at the property if you have free time outside your safaris. I highly recommend the guided nature walk around their property, with their very interesting and knowledgeable naturalists.

As soon as you enter, you are enthralled with the attention to detail, right from the stone walls, the reclaimed wood lamps to the dining area. One can tell that it has been thought out very carefully.

The staff at Kanha Earth Lodge goes out of its way to ensure you’ve had a great stay. They create the finest experiences to give you a great time. We had a bush dinner with candlelight. The setting was simply dreamy.

Another experience was that of trekking up a hill to view the stunning sunset with the ace naturalist Swan.

Talking about the rooms, they’re earthy and have all the facilities one could expect. The showers are themselves a work of art. The patio is great to just sit out, look at the wilderness and have a conversation with your partner.

Of particular note are Pugdundee eco-credentials, supporting the local community with employment, training, schooling and sourcing of supplies; adopting eco-friendly practices (e.g. plastic-free initiatives, cultivation of a kitchen garden); and above all demonstrating respect and love for the natural environment. Highly commendable all round. The team should be extremely proud of the experience they provide. This place deserves to be full of guests all year round.
This place is the real deal. The lodge itself keeps itself true to the idea of an eco-lodge, set on the beautiful fringes of Kanha National Park, with incredible naturalists, and a straightforward approach to being green.
We were welcomed in a very warm, friendly atmosphere by Bharat, who introduced us to everything the lodge has to offer – amazing food, fantastic rooms and a deep cool swimming pool (which is essential in the heat of the summer!). Bharat always has a smile on his face and you can tell how much he enjoys his job, which goes a long way to making the Lodge the wonderful place it is.

Pugdundee Safari’s Kanha Earth Lodge in Kanha National Park is absolutely stunning and I highly recommend staying here during your visit to Kanha Tiger Reserve.

You will stay in private bungalows right in the Buffer area of the National Park. The bungalows are luxurious and offer all the amenities that you could ask for, but you also feel like you are staying close to nature. I had a nice terrace looking straight into the jungle and saw some beautiful birds there as I enjoyed my morning tea and watched the world wake up.

While we didn’t see any tigers during my safari, we saw an abundance of other wildlife and the two Nature Guides that accompanied me on my safari drive were extremely knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. They shared some incredible stories about wildlife encounters, eco-tourism efforts to make safaris at Kanha National Park a sustainable travel experience and interesting stories about the local village life.

Another highlight of my stay at Kanha Earth Lodge was the sundowner experience. The two Naturalists offered me a hike up a hill behind the safari, right before sunset. On the way, they explained more local wildlife – almost like a walking safari. When we reached the top another surprise waited for me: Two more staff members were waiting for us on top of the hill with chairs, tea, coffee, and snacks so we could enjoy the sunset. It was an incredibly beautiful experience to see the sunset over the jungle.

The staff at Kanha Earth Lodge was incredible. They were so friendly and helpful and did everything to make my stay more comfortable and to ensure that I had a good time.

If you are planning a trip to Kanha National Park, I highly recommend Pugdundee Safari Kanha Earth Lodge.
