Breakfast is available (fee). There’s also a gallery exhibiting local artists, as well as laundry and airport shuttle service (both for a surcharge).
My husband and I stayed in this modern, eco–friendly hotel for one night in Madrid. The neighborhood is a little bohemian place with plenty of restaurants, bars and by day – small art galleries. The rooms were minimal in design but were clean, comfortable and had nice, fluffy, white bedding.
The staff were friendly and eager to help with directions or recommendations for anything we needed. There was a “Continental Breakfast” each morning that offered more variety than one would expect. Pastries, granola, toast, bagels, coffee, milk, juice and fruit. You could also get delicious European coffee any time of day from an easy-to-use cappuccino machine in the dining area.
Very well located in a very diverse part of the old city, Artrip was a wonderful discovery! Reception was very pleasant and accommodated our request for early check in after an overnight flight. The accommodations were very pleasant, of modern design and eco–friendly. The hotel, while very old has been entirely remodeled with taste and charm. Tea and coffee always available, and refrigerator in the room was a way to save a little money and added convenience and welcome. Excellent value.
Overall, this room is cleverly designed with seemingly eco–friendly materials and modern furniture (Ikea). Pictures are true to life. The room is the largest I’ve had in Europe, with 3-4 seat couch, shelving/console unit (Ikea Expedit) for extra storage, open closet with hangers and shelves. Mattress is FIRM (two twins pushed together), with light/minimal bedding. Extra blankets and pillows in closet. BATHROOM is open to the rest of the room; however, the toilet and shower have frosted (opaque) glass doors for privacy, and there is a large sliding divider for those who want a divided/private bathroom area.
Shower is great with one rain and one hand-held shower head. Shower floor is slated and raised “wood” (really Trex or some other material) which is a nice touch and would help any drainage issues. There is also a small window for ventilation. Large mirror with modern glass double vanity sinks, with a bench for towels (I did wish for one wash-cloth) and basic toiletries (bar soap, shampoo, body wash).
WARNING: the hairdryer is weak; his is not a problem for me, but I imagine some women with thick hair would prefer their own stronger hair dryers. Flooring is odd, but not bad – it seems to be an outdoor material, and feels plastic (almost sticky) underfoot – again, not bad, but unexpected. The room was SUPER QUIET since it only faces the “courtyard.” If you want a room with a view, this one isn’t for you. Lots of outlets and lighting, and AC worked well. Small flat-screen TV was mounted from the ceiling and hung in front of bed (CNN and BBC for English). Complimentary tea with hot-pot, and mini-mini-fridge with two bottles of water.
BREAKFAST: 9a-11a, 4 euros each. Small/simple buffet: petite pastries, hams, cheese, tomato spread, toast, cereal, fruit (apples, pears, kiwi), juice, coffee, tea. Perfect for check-out day.
SERVICE: Everyone was fantastic! When our converter broke, they lent us one; when we asked a question, they offered informative and friendly answers; when we asked for recommendations, they were spot-on. We left the hotel at noon and returned at 11p and room was cleaned and bed remade. Not one complaint.

The apartments were excellent. Very spacious and luxuriously fitted. The facilities within were really good with tea and coffee making facilities to hand. The location was perfect, within walking distance to the city theatre land and restaurants. The staff were really friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
A nice set of apartments in a good location in Madrid – handy for metro stations, the main shopping street and not far from the nightlife. Also within walking distance of numerous supermarkets and nice cafes/coffee shops.
The apartments felt safe only downfall is they could be a little noisy as there is a fire station opposite.
Apartments were clean and well equipped and if there wasn’t anything provided already, you’d most likely find it at reception.
Great location, near the Grand Via and central square, but in a quiet safe residential neighborhood with interesting restaurants never seen by tourists. We rented a two bedroom loft style suite, with an upstairs and down.
The space was modern, clean and well laid out. Perfect for a family of four or more. The staff was attentive and kind. Our only suggestion is that the kitchen should have additional equipment (such as spatulas) and one of the twin mattresses in the kids room was worn to a point that the springs were poking through. Also, we had an interior room that lacked natural light, probably because we booked last minute and it was the last available. I would suggest calling and asking for an exterior room, if available.
Overall the place was great and I would stay here again. Staff was very attentive and were responsive to request for gluten free breakfast. Great space, great location, great service. And did I mention two full showers and a kitchen? Perfect for a family visit.
The full kitchen was nice to have, including a dishwasher. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a washer/dryer combo. It was an all in one machine, so plan extra time for drying (it took about 3 hours to dry).
The master bathroom was a bit small with not much counter space, but the shower had a nice rain shower head. The towel warmer was also nice. The blow dryer was a plus. Normally blow dryers at hotels are not very powerful, but this one was excellent. The second bathroom in our suite was actually two different rooms, one with the stool and sink, and one with the shower. The doors were sliding doors on those two rooms, and you could see through the crack if you walked down the hall. We just avoided walking down the hall when someone was using them.
We enjoyed the location. It’s out of the main tourist area, but still easy to get to all of the tourist destinations. It’s about a 20-30 minute walk to the museums, about 10-15 minute walk to the theater district. There is a Metro station a block away, and that is how we got around for the most part. The Metro was easy to use. A guide we had for a walking tour told us the apartment building was in the “hipster” part of Madrid, with quite a few artists living in that area.
There were lots of neat restaurants close to the building, and several little plazas to sit and have a drink or meal. There were also several groceries and fruit stands with in a few blocks of the building. You will hear street noises in this location at night (trash being emptied, people on the street, etc) and it can seem quite loud if you are not used to city noises. All in all we enjoyed the apartment and would recommend it.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Madrid. On the outskirts of the city centre, close to the metro which I have to say is faultless and always on time.
Warmly welcomed by Carlos, as part of the stay you can eat snacks and drink beer, wine and soft drinks 24 hours a day complimentary, which is amazing in this day and age!
There is an honesty bar for spirits where you can drink however you record what you have and is charged to your room.
Rooms are airy, clean and modern. Eco style, very conscious of the environment and all public areas are spotlessly clean.
From first time you see they are really compromised with eco thinking. Breakfast is varied and good quality. Common area has 24 hours snacks and drinks (including beer and wine) Room has everything necessary, and it’s comfortable.
Overall, the Artiem Madrid was the nicest, most accommodating hotel we stayed at in Spain! Friendly and cheerful staff at an eco-conscious, no-frills hotel (yet it doesn’t “feel” in any way Spartan). It’s located in a quiet residential neighborhood that is a 20-minute taxi ride from central Madrid: (for some perspective for American travelers, if it was NYC, the Artiem location would be central Queens instead of midtown Manhattan).
The sparkling clean, eco-conscious hotel (which makes one feel a bit virtuous for booking there) is a terrific value for the money. Even in the most standard room had as much room (and light) as hotels costing much more. Moreover, guests can avail themselves of food in the hotel’s lobby snack area (which includes beverages of all types: bottled water, soft drinks, coffee, tea, juices, beers, and wines.
This was the rare hotel we found in Spain to have a proper gym (perhaps they have a younger clientele overall), and it’s open 24/7. But they also offer you the option of a “gym in a bag in your room”; with a fresh yoga mat, weights, exercise routine, etc.
Artiem Madrid is a no-frills, unpretentious hotel, that wins its 5 stars from me with friendly customer service. They truly seem happy to host you. My only suggestions would be to invest in better mattresses and to provide a couple of protein-based snacks (nuts?) downstairs for those who are unable to eat sweets/sugars/fruit.
The hotel has a very nice staff, accommodations and a superb location at less than 15-min drive from the Madrid-Barajas airport. The hotel is eco-friendly with many recyclable items, including cardboard containers, straws, cups, etc.
The lobby is a great place to relax or work, and it has a very well stocked cafeteria where you can get items for free, including pastries, coffee, bread, sandwiches, fruit, yogurt (and even wine and beer!). The restaurant offers a very robust breakfast with hot items galore. You get great value and quality for your euros. Highly recommended. Metro station is five minute away walking. Will stay again here next time we come visit Madrid.
In this hotel one feels at home. It’s eco friendly, has clean, spacious rooms, amazing staff and a lounge, where you can have drinks and snacks all day/night long without costs or you can take these to your room if you prefer and store them in your mini fridge. Each room also has a kettle to make tea and coffee. The mattresses and pillows are very comfortable. All small details are taken care of and one feels at home instead of in a hotel. As the hotel is situated in a residential area, it’s nice and quiet, still close to all public transportation, the city, a shopping mall and the airport.
