An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Nicaragua are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Manama and then beyond in Nicaragua.

Nor is it hard to see why: Nicaragua’s landscape of lakes and volcanoes, lush rainforests and deserted beaches is a nature lover’s paradise. With 76 protected areas covering over 20% of its landmass, it outstrips its more popular neighbour for eco-tourism, Costa Rica. … So go eco to Nicaragua

Immerse yourself in a magical island resort experience filled with peace and tranquility. Jicaro Island Lodge is a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World and a member of the award-winning Cayuga Collection.
We love the idea that much of the small island has been left as was found. The rocks that were left create hidden walkways.
Continuing the eco mindset and sustainability – Bamboo straws, real dishes and glassware (reusable plastic by the pool) local crafts on display – all part of sustainable environment and community. Sustainability is serious and we did not take the efforts at Jicaro for granted. We appreciated all that was shared with us.
The island is beautiful and so different than other places. Definitely luxury yet eco at the same time. The food was amazing and the drinks were wonderful. The best was the morning coffee/tea/juice and banana bread delivered to your private deck followed by morning yoga on the main deck.
Sunsets behind the Mombacho Volcano are also unbelievable as is kayaking/SUP around all the many tiny neighboring islands.
The pool definitely came in handy as the lake is not clear; the pool is also bigger than it looks in pictures. Great place to completely unplug and the incredibly friendly staff make it easy to relax.
Jicaro ecolodge is a truly unique ecolodge. The island is small but absolutely beautiful and like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It’s expensive to stay here but it’s worth it.
Food and non alcoholic drinks are included. The staff is superb!
Food is made fresh daily and drinks are delicious also. You really feel like you’re one with the nature while on this island. We stayed here for 2 nights which I felt satisfied our needs.
Some activities include yoga, kayaking, paddle board, spa, pool, birdwatching, etc.. The ecolodge also offers a trip to the Nicaraguan children’s school and they show you how this lodge is part of the sustainable tourism. My favorite thing about this place is that the owners really care about Nicaragua (environment and people).
For example on the island is a small store where I bought a gift that Nicaraguan children made…earrings made by a child from recycled magazines all proceeds go to the children.
I also loved that the staff is self reflective always looking for ways to improve. That’s a clear sign of a great business.
The effort they go to ensure the property is eco-friendly is exemplary. The casitas (bungalows) are beautifully set-up, ensuring your comfort and entertainment.
We only stayed for one night, so we didn’t do any excursions, but we enjoyed the complimentary paddle boards, and time on the dock and in the pool. The sunset from the viewing tower was definitely worth the climb, don’t miss it! But one of the best features of the lodge, is the incredible food. Everything is fresh and of high-quality.
The menu is extensive, it’s hard to decide what to try!
I don’t think you can go wrong though, everything looked delicious. So if you’re looking for a restful break from your adventure in Nicaragua, Jicaro Island Ecolodge is the place to go. Don’t miss it!

2. Hacienda & Ecolodge Morgan’s Rock 5* – Eco Lodges Nicaragua

Hacienda & Ecolodge Morgan's Rock

Situated in San Juan del Sur Bay, Hacienda & Ecolodge Morgan’s Rock has a children’s playground, outdoor pool, and a private beach area 1.5 km away.

The bungalow is equipped with a fan, a private terrace that overlooks the mountainside and a private bathroom with shower. The bungalows have a rustic decoration with modern-style details, wooden furniture, floors and beamed ceilings, plus thatched roofs.

Our exotic rainforest surroundings, private sandy beach and bay, secluded location and large open spaces makes Morgan’s Rock an exceptional place that brings our guests peace, harmony and relaxation of the body and mind.
From the moment we arrived and were greeted with fresh coconuts and cold, scented towels, we were totally wowed. Morgan’s Rock is a beautifully designed ecolodge situated in a magnificent, pristeen setting — a mile-long, crescent-shaped beach surrounded by cliffs and verdant jungle forest. The individual bungalows are jaw-dropping, with two separate levels as well as an outdoor deck. Panoramic views and tons of space, and I have never before had an in-room coffee grinder and fresh coffee beans! The setting is remote (that’s the point); but there is plenty to do, and getting to and from locations outside of the property is doable.
Every single thing — food, staff, rooms, pool, beach, trails, horseback riding — was perfection itself. The staff members were, without exception, delightful, helpful and great people.
Those wishing to relax in one of our bungalows can also discover nature, wildlife and aquatic activities through the option of a variety of tours.

This secluded luxury eco resort is truly something special. It’s a bit challenging to get there over extensive bumpy roads but definitely worth it. There is attention to detail with comfort items for guests while at the same time respecting their environmental commitment.

The gourmet menu changes daily with offerings from their farm. Harvey and Janley and the rest of the staff are fantastic and made us feel very welcome. We can’t wait to go back.

How does this resort stack up against remote 5 star experiences in the world’s finest tropical establishments? Well, life here is more primitive, reduced to essentials, but in a way that spoils one and causes you to realize that glass windows really aren’t necessary or even desirable in a place such as this. Same goes for A/C.

This is a a genuine, extremely well conceived eco resort which has inspired us to explore more such properties, but with the sad feeling that others will most likely not measure up. For us, we would as soon stay at Morgan’s Rock as anywhere, even though the journey is a bit arduous.

The room was spacious, well appointed and the beds were extremely comfortable. Our room included a very complete minibar (with very reasonable pricing) and a full service coffee and tea station including fresh coffee from the property owner’s coffee plantation in the Nicaraguan highlands. The fans and the unique air conditioning system over the bed provide a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in the rooms.

The view of the beach from the villas and bungalows along with the constant sound of the surf sets the mood for relaxation. We did not have any issues with bugs during our stay, the rooms, the grounds and the beach are very clean and well maintained, and didn’t even use bug spray after the first day. The villa and bungalows put you right in the middle of nature and we enjoyed watching the birds, iguanas, monkeys, raccoons, sloth, owls and wildlife on our walks to breakfast, dinner, the beach and spa.

Our package at Morgan’s Rock included breakfast which we enjoyed each morning. With a different breakfast, lunch and dinner menu each day, everyone in our party had the chance to sample a wide variety of dishes. The breakfasts were filling and delicious, included fresh fruits, fresh juices and fresh baked breads and muffins. In addition to a typical Nicaraguan breakfast (El Nica) we enjoyed omelets, breakfast burritos, yogurt and granola with fresh fruit, a breakfast casserole among other choices. A different coffee is served with each meal and the breakfast coffee is delicious (we bought a bag to take home with us).

With a full breakfast service daily, we only had lunch one day, but we did enjoy several afternoon snacks by the pool including nachos and guacamole. The guacamole was outstanding and includes red onions and lime. Yum.

3. Totoco Eco-lodge 4* – Eco Friendly Hotels  Nicaragua

Totoco Eco-lodge

Offering an outdoor swimming pool and a restaurant, Totoco Eco-lodge is located in Balgue. Free WiFi access is available in public areas of this lodge.

The bungalows offer wooden furniture, mosquito net and a fan. Private bathrooms come with a shower. Some cabins have flush toilets while others are fitted with dry compost toilets. The property is an off-grid Eco-lodge in the middle of the tropical forest and functions using renewable energy.

Guests can enjoy international dishes and local food at the on-site restaurant.

Located on the edge of a pristine biosphere nature reserve with an abundance of wildlife and a cloud forest above you, the Totoco experience is pure comfort in pure nature. Guests can stay in one of our custom designed private lodges all made using local materials and labour. Each lodge enjoys a private garden setting and offers spectacular views of Lake Nicaragua and active Concepcion Volcano.

Accomodation was some of the best in the whole of Central America. So incredibly beautiful, sustainable and class=”_3f5ztoLj”>eco friendly.

Sitting in the open dining room or on the patio of our cabin looking at Concepcion Volcano was incredible! The staff were all very helpful and super friendly! They helped us arrange a great guide for the hike up Maderas Volcano (ask for Junio he is a fantastic guide!!) We walked down into Balgue a few times from the lodge and it’s a bit of a trek but very doable.

It’s well worth it for staying at this spot higher up and more in the jungle for the views, and the jungle sounds. It is an eco-friendly hotel in the jungle so definitely don’t expect high-end luxury, but for us it was all part of a great experience.

Totoco is an epic place to stay on Ometepe – beautiful, romantic rooms (yes please outdoor shower!), comfy beds, amazing and kinda staff, sweeping views, neat part of town….would recommend this lovely spot to any one who wants an eco-lodge experience and good home base for exploration. Hard to imagine anything better.

I highly suggest this remote, beautiful eco-lodge. Is a great place to relax after exploring the volcano all day. The individual eco-lodges are spread out nicely so you feel like you’re all by yourself out there. Sunset is incredible.

This is a rustic eco-lodge with dry toilets located in the middle of the jungle. Be were of spiders ands other animal. If you can live with this you will love Totoco. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, the vies of the Concepcion Volcano AMAZING.

Unbelievable sunsets and great staff and service that will successfully help with anything.

Totoco Ecolodge is a fabulous property. Every room is an individual shack so you have the entire place to yourself. It’s wonderful to wake up to the chirping of birds and sounds of the forest. The washrooms are unique and it’s a beautiful experience to shower under the open sky. It’s in a remote location so you have to drive for a bit away from the highway to get here and the road isn’t paved. I recommend arriving here during the day.

The WiFi works in the main reception/restaurant area only. Their infinity pool is lovely (just a bit chilly).
