A wonderful classic hotel two blocks from Pioneer Square in the heart of downtown Portland. Beautiful lounge area that has Russian tea service in the afternoon. Great restaurant attached, Headwaters. Rooms are a bit small but modern, clean and quiet. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby.
The front lobby is gorgeous and impressive as you walk in, with easy access to an absolutely delicious restaurant. Id say the highlight of the lobby area was their bar that had massive bookcases along the wall. Each book was signed by the author who had stayed at the hotel previously.
The room was gorgeous and spacious, with plenty of room for my friends I had over for drinks. The bed just off from that space was large and very comfy and I slept well which is saying something with my bad back.
The hotel is extremely close to downtown only being two blocks from pioneer square and the max lines. A ten minute walk gets you to the Pearl if you take a left out the main entrance or a ten minute walk straight ahead to the waterfront. You’re right next to a number of eateries, museums and other things to do and see.
Small, historic hotel located right in the heart of downtown Portland, short walk to most downtown PDX attractions. Walked to Powells Books, Blue Star Donuts, Heart Coffee, food pods, to name a few. The room was clean and comfortable. Quiet at night when I went to sleep. Very nice king bed and linens. Friendly staff.

This hotel is well situated within walking distance of many of Portland’s downtown shopping/tourist sights. It’s a great vintage building with a nice entrance and tall ceilings. The decor is eclectic, quirky, and chic – if you want classic or elegant, this may not be your place. The lobby has a fabulous cozy fire flanked by two leather chairs – a nice spot to relax after walking around the city.
We were on the 10th floor and really couldn’t hear any city traffic noise. Our room had a small bath, sitting room and a bedroom separated by a set of sliding doors with glass inserts.
As for amenities… The bathroom amenities were nicely scented eco-friendly large sizes that are not intended for the guest to take away. I always enjoy an in-room coffee maker. They don’t do that here, but do have coffee/tea service in the lobby, so you do have to get dressed to get a cup. What they do offer is a nice wine/beer reception between 4-5 everyday with music, which is a very nice touch.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again when back in Portland.
The location can’t be beat. We attended the happy hour and enjoyed a glass of wine and some music before we headed out to dinner and a play. It was my birthday and the manager sent up a wonderful bottle of wine, chocolate and waters. What a lovely touch! We signed up for the Kimpton rewards program. We got free wifi and a drink at the Red Star. Worth your time to sign up.
We looked at quite a few hotels, but decided on this one when we read how eco-conscious they are and the recognition they’ve received for being a great company to work for. We like to spend our money at companies that are doing the right thing for the environment and their employees. We’re already planning our next night here.
Your need to stretch out and relax is fulfilled with large, visually engaging guest rooms. Wild decor extends into the private parts as the artsy furnishings amuse with a chic comfort. The suite, with solid separation from sleeping quarters, is fully equipped with snacks, drinks and entertainment. Wallpaper is a flight of fancy with bird species winging across the walls. An eco-forward feel competes with the guilty pleasures of being wrapped in comfort.
The heart-of-the-city doorstep affords easy walks to some of Portland’s prized destinations. Bikes are at-the-ready for the adventurous pedaling out to the neighborhoods. Or get your miles in at the nicely equipped fitness center. Business? Sure, why not. With an array of meeting rooms and event support, you’ll get it done. At day’s end, there’s no doubt you’ll want to saunter into the Red Star Tavern for a little refueling!

Bright rooms offer free Wi-Fi , yoga mats and flat-screen TVs, plus mini fridges, microwaves and Keurig coffee makers. Upgraded rooms have balconies with river views. Airy 1-bedroom suites add kitchenettes and separate living rooms with sofa beds.
Parking, breakfast and freshly baked cookies at check-in are complimentary. Other amenities include an indoor saltwater pool, a hot tub, fire pits and loaner bikes. There’s also a fitness center, a playground and a game room.
On the riverside area of Seaside,so just a short walk to beach/shopping. Staff were exceptional. Pool pristine as well as saltwater jacuzzi. Beds new and firm. Overall a great experience. Sooo thankful to see astutely made choices to be eco-friendly in so many respects.
This hotel is in a perfect location, close to downtown and to the beach. Everything is within walking distance. The river view is beautiful – we enjoyed watching the wildlife and the kayakers. The staff was incredibly helpful and the hotel is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is lackluster and could use more substantial items like eggs and bacon. Rooms are small and don’t provide space outside of the beds. It’s tight for a family of four.
The outside balcony offers a little extra space. The fire pits and small lobby also provide a place to escape. Love the water refill station and hot water and large dispensers for soap and shampoo vs the small individual sizes. For an eco-friendly hotel, it would be nice if recycling was offered.
We have stayed here a couple of times. Always a fantastic experience. The staff is always amazing, friendly, helpful and cheerful. The amenities are great, continental breakfast, free bike rental, ping-pong, Foosball, darts, playground, gas fire pit, pool, Wi-Fi and more. I love that they have soap pumps in rooms instead of the non eco-friendly plastic bottles.

Oregon beach vacation getaway.”,”viewport”:”DESKTOP”}]}”>
All of the staff is friendly, and always smiling, even when they are simply sweeping the front steps. It’s the little things that make us love this place: soft towels; little goodies in the bathroom (toothpaste, makeup remover, Breathe Right strips!); eco-friendly shampoo, lotion, etc canisters instead of individual bottles; free DVD rentals; fresh-baked cookies at check-in; fireplace burning in the lobby. And best of all – AMAZINGLY comfortable beds, linens and pillows!! That for me can make ALL the difference!
Breakfast is simple, but offers a nice variety. We always get plenty to eat to hold us over until lunch. Pool looks great, but we haven’t used it.
Great location. A couple short blocks to the beach and/or downtown. It is quiet and safe. Plus it is right on the river, which is nice to stroll along at night.

5. The Allison Inn & Spa 5* – Eco Hotels in Wine Country Oregon

Located in the Willamette Valley in 35 acres of grounds, this upscale spa resort is within 10 miles of dozens of wineries and 2 miles from Chehalem Glenn Golf Course.
The serene, earth-toned rooms feature custom furnishings and local art, plus gas fireplaces, wet bars and bay window seats. Bose sound systems and free Wi-Fi are standard, and room service is available 24/7. Suites include living rooms and balconies.
Valet and overnight parking is free. Additional amenities include a elegant restaurant and an 800-label wine cellar, plus a spa offering wellness treatments, an indoor pool, a hot tub and yoga classes.
Really a gem in the heart of Oregon wine country. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Willamette Valley, there aren’t too many to choose from. We had read about the Allison Inn prior to our arrival and must say that our expectations were exceeded.
Rooms – Spacious and well appointed. Plenty of areas to lounge around. The resort is eco-friendly, so don’t expect any plastic or items that you don’t usually use (envelopes in the drawer, anyone?) There was a one-off basket of complimentary snacks, and glass water bottles which were refillable using the in-room sink (which provides filtered water). Besides the necessary shower amenities, you won’t find a huge collection of bathroom amenities that are typically common in luxury hotels.
F&B – We had breakfast and dinner at JORY – the hotel restaurant, which specializes in Pacific Northwest cuisine. The restaurant staff were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Menus were short and concise. At both meals, the food quality was consistently high. We didn’t drink at all, but we heard that JORY has one of the most comprehensive wine lists in the area.
Recreation – Gym was well equipped. I had a chance to use the pool, which was a little on the small side and although indoor, was slightly chilly.
Service – Very friendly, professional and efficient. It’s no wonder that Allison Inn was ranked No. 20 on the Travel and Leisure World’s Best Hotels list for 2015. Great job! We will be back.
