An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Sweden are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Stockholm and then beyond in Sweden.

Sweden also set up ‘Nature’s Best’, Europe’s first eco-label that assures the quality of hundreds of tours run by nearly hundred eco-certified tour operators around the country. This means if you book a trip with one of Nature’s Best tour operators you know that they have to adhere to a strict code of conduct, and you make a positive contribution to the environment where your tour or activity is taking place.

Holding a temperature between -5 to -8 degrees Celsius, the individually themed cold rooms include hand-carved ice furnishings by international artists. Guests sleep in thermal sleeping bags on beds covered in reindeer hides.

In the morning, guests can enjoy the shared sauna. All warm rooms feature a flat-screen TV with cable channels, dining area, and a privat.

Video Review of IceHotel Sweden

The Icehotel is a hotel rebuilt each year with snow and ice in the village of Jukkasjärvi, in northern Sweden, about 17 kilometres from Kiruna. It is the world’s first ice hotel. After its first opening in 1990, the hotel has been rebuilt each year from December to April.

Welcome to the original ICEHOTEL. Founded in 1989 in the village of Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, ICEHOTEL is a hotel and an art exhibition with ever-changing art created in a new guise every winter, completely made out of natural ice from Torne River, one of Sweden’s national Rivers and last untouched waters. When the winter suites have melted back into the river in the spring, a part of the hotel still stands, our permanent part of ICEHOTEL called ICEHOTEL 365, open 365 days a year.
A place where visitors can experience the ice and snow year-round and experience winter inside – no matter the outdoor temperature. Including our luxury suites, each with a private relaxed and bathroom, art suites, an ice gallery with ice sculpting opportunities for guests and our world famous ICEBAR that serves Champagne and drinks in the rocks. The entire ICEHOTEL 365 is cooled in the summer by the solar panels, harnessing the energy from the neverending midnight sun. A warm welcome to ICEHOTEL!

. The Ice hotel itself is a fantastic structure and was great to see and visit. If you book in for a cold room you are given a locker and communal dressing area and toilets, if you pay more, you can have a cubicle which is much more convenient and avoids packing and re-packing of bags. We stayed in an Ice room which was really comfortable, no point paying for a sculpture room as when the lights are off you can’t see them!

The Hotel has a restaurant on sight which is good but serves posh nosh – in these temperatures you need a hearty meal! There is a resident lounge but that only serves 3 types of panini. There is a restaurant down the street but walking there in -30 can be a challenge!

Warm rooms are basic but good – the hotel is eco friendly so when it gets really cold outside, the warm rooms can become a bit nippy too.

The perfect winter destination for those that love snow. Beautiful location and the rooms made of ice are just…WOW!! Exceptional art, it really worths it to visit them, and even sleep in them and of course to take a cold drink in the ice bar.
Full of activities, a frozen lake to walk on and a restaurant with very delicious food. If lucky the Northern lights can been seen!!! With few words, a lifetime’s experience.
The hotel was a tremendous and unique experience from beginning to end. Each and every room was better than the previous one, you truly get lost among the ice sculptures and art and forget about the outside world for a little bit.

2. Treehotel 4* – Eco Hotels Sweden

Treehotel

This special property offers a unique stay among the trees of Harads’s forests. It blends cutting-edge architecture and design with home comforts like tea/coffee makers and free WiFi.

Treehotel’s eco-friendly rooms feature large beds as well as stylish, up-to-date décor and furniture. Naturally, all rooms offer views of the forest and surrounding countryside. Each has a toilet and washbasin, while showers are found in a neighbouring building.

The kitchen team at Treehotel focuses on wild game and locally sourced ingredients in its dishes. The hotel sauna and hot tub can be used for an additional fee.

Treehotel offers a unique hotel experience: tree rooms with contemporary design in the middle of unspoiled nature. Here you can forget about the time constraints of everyday life, enjoy the serenity, and rejuvenate in a sophisticated yet familiar environment. Treehotel has seven tree rooms and 9 rooms in the main building Brittas Guesthouse.
We offer conferences, Sauna, Jacuzzi sammy mini spa. A variety of activities can be booked. Treehotel restaurant open year round Delicacies from the Swedish Lapland and Swedish cuisine. Our specialty is wild game meat with ingredients from local suppliers.
Such a unique and individual experience. We stayed in the Dragonfly tree house. The views over the valley were stunning. From our room we have a full glass wall to admire it, I didn’t want to go to sleep. The whole experience is peaceful and calming being so close to nature. The hotel respect their effect on the environment too with water conservation and eco toilets. The main house is full of character and charm. Dinner is exceptional with local produce fully appreciated. The staff are all so lovely, helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. I did not want to leave.
We stayed in the cabin which is quite elevated from the ground and the one we wanted from looking at the website, since it suited our travel taste. Warm, cozy and great view of the Harads forest and the Lulea river. Using incinerating toilet is no problem, you just need to get out of paradigm. If you’re eco-minded you’ll love it, as well as the eco-friendly, locally produced and organic hand soap and lotion (they smell fruity).
Mind that this is a green hotel (environmentally-conscious) so you won’t be using your shampoo or soap since the water goes back to the forest, so it’s important you comply! This is a good thing so don’t bring your close-minded attitude, if I may be so bold to say so, since you’ll just be frustrated. Give yourself the chance to experience the deal as intended.
The room had ample sleeping space arranged around the perimeter of the UFO, a small table and kitchen/ food-prep area, a washroom with an eco-toilet and a wash-basin (though the water supply for washing is a single, large bottle of cold water) and a TV (with video game console, why?). The UFO has portholes in the roof, through which you can enjoy the night sky.
Don’t expect the usual five star service and facilities, prepare yourself that this is eco hotel with eco toilets and the showers are in a separate building than your tree room is.
The Tree hotel is a once in a lifetime, unique experience! We were lucky enough to book the hotel for 2 nights in conjunction with a trip further north to the Ice Hotel. The Tree hotel was absolutely fabulous! The individual tree houses are all so unique and Eco-friendly and relaxing. The facilities are beautiful developed and maintained and the guesthouse where you eat meals and meet your fellow travelers is fantastic. The food was really exceptionally prepared with local and traditional ingredients.
The staff couldn’t be more helpful and kind. We had just a superb visit and would go back in a heartbeat if we ever get the chance. We did the northern light tour by snowmobile and got lucky to see the lights the first night there. We also did the small sauna house and had just a wonderfully relaxing day. The main window in the Blue Cone room was a sight to see and just a beautiful picture of the world around us at every time of day and night. Go… Enjoy.

Welcome to Hobo!

Excellent hotel, situated very close to the old town and the shipping areas of Stockholm. Great rooms with impressive eco credentials and really friendly staff. Excellent bar area and tasty breakfast. Very highly recommended.

Trendy and maybe a bit hipster style hotel. Staff are friendly and breakfast in style lay what you eat! They encourage you to stay eco friendly. So make sure you hang up the sign “please make up my room” if you wish to have service! Great place on good location! The budget rooms are good for one maybe two nights, but don’t have any windows.

The quirkiness and design of this hotel make it so unique and fun. Modern rooms that break traditional hotel rules makes for a great space with little things to discover here and there. Minimal and random fun things like water pistols in the bathroom, contact reception via sms, eco friendly soap/shampoo dispensers and things you can borrow during your stay (umbrella, maps, shopping bag…)

The gym was heaven for me, just like being in a modern new gym in the basement I loved the space, I will say the best hotel gym I have ever come across and that is something I would not say lightly!!

The breakfast buffet is really nice just make sure you are early so you catch the best bits… chia pudding and granola yoghurt. Like most places in Stockholm offers great variety of healthy and ‘other’ options.

Great location too! If you are looking for something different and a true scandi experience give Hobo a try!

4. The Arctic Bath 4* – Green Hotels Sweden

Eco Friendly Hotels Sweden

We enjoyed everything! Our cottage was so beautiful, the staff was so nice and service minded, the spa was excellent, and the nature is just to die for. Still, our absolute favorite part was the food.

The food alone would have been worth the journey.

We had a great and gorgeous stay. It was like a dream. We had a great time in our land cabin for our family.

Video Review of The Arctic Bath Hotel

The dinner was excellent. And the spa amazing.

We had a nice woman from the hotel who suggested to teach us how to use the sauna and go in the cold bath. It was a very nice experience as we never did it before and we really appreciated having somebody to be with us.

The area and the environment were so quiet and peaceful
We saw a moose running on the lake when we were waiting for the taxi to go back home,it was magic.

the sliding seats and the sledges are available to have fun and all the family enjoyed!
one of the best memory during our Lapland trip.

A very special small boutique hotel at a beautiful nature spot! We had a perfect time staying six days at this wonderful hotel. There are two room categories, small rooms floating on the river and land cabins. We chose the land cabin as being 3 persons. The room is very comfortable and has a great view to the river and sunset. The beds are in high quality and the all over design and setup is fine. On the last night we stayed at two floating rooms – they are quite small, but very well designed, romantique and perfect for a couple. The bathroom is even nicer, than in the land cabin. Overall – the setup to the rooms are nice and nothing to complain.

The real asset of this place is of course the stunning nature, the possible activities and the overall design concept of the cabins and the mail fancy 360 building. Only 12 rooms are making it very cosy and personal.

So – the spot is nice, well developed and a trip worth.

Truly amazing experience at Arctic Bath. We spent three nights in one of the wonderful and beautifully decorated suits. Being very far away from the city, we were expecting something nice but not with this standard. The staff was very welcoming, from the moment we arrived they proposed to lend us some warm clothes for our activities during our stay (they had every size, very helpful since we didn’t have enough hot clothes.) The manager Erica is wonderful, she made us feel at home and advised us throughout our stay. We can’t write enough nice things regarding these people, that were all friendly and nice.

Arctic Bath is one of the most unique hotels in Sweden. The design of the hotel and the villas is amazing, and the location on the river is great too. Food is very nice with interesting flavors. The food menu is well paired with suitable wines. The staff is talkative and friendly, but not too much. So you can have a great time with your own company, but also get a nice chat with the staff if you like that.

I would say that the whole package is what makes this place so nice. The cold bath is a unique experience like this, and the spa area is very nice as well.

The rooms are nicely decorated and feature everything you could possibly need for a nice vacation.

5. Steam Hotel 4* – Eco Hotel in Sweden

Steam Hotel

Featuring a rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking Lake Mälaren, Steam Hotel is an 18-storey hotel just 2 km away from central Västerås. WiFi is free.

The air-conditioned rooms come with a flat-screen TV, work desk and coffee/tea facilities. A minibar and ironing facilities are also included. The bathroom features free toiletries, a hairdryer and a bath or shower.

Steam Hotel has 2 restaurants as well as 4 different bars. The breakfast contains a wide selection of locally sourced produce.

Next to a harbor on Lake Mälaren, this trendy, industrial-chic hotel in a former power plant dating from 1917 is 3 km from Västerås Central train station and 5 km from aviation history at Västerås Flygmuseum.

Chic rooms with exposed brick accents and/or original iron beams feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and minibars; some have lake views. Upgraded rooms offer sitting areas. Suites add separate living rooms.

There’s a polished restaurant, and a top-floor eatery with lake views, as well as a glass-enclosed cocktail lounge serving pan-Asian cuisine. A spa has indoor and outdoor pools, hotel destination and spa. Welcome to The Steam Hotel in Westeros just by beautiful lake Mälaren, 55 minutes from Stockholm.

A 100 year old steam power plant turned hotel destination and spa. Welcome to The Steam Hotel in Westeros just by beautiful lake Mälaren, 55 minutes from Stockholm.

Very difficult to compare this experience with other hotels – it’s quite unique.
The old power plant is still very present, raw concrete, steel bars, rust and high ceilings. Then add a modern warm and cosy luxury hotel with great staff (and plenty of them), decorate with old meters, books, shoes, tools and you come close to this hotel. Steampunk meets boutique luxury.

Great food, great breakfast, nice views over the lake and just a very great stay.

Positives:
– the interior is amazing. This is an old industrial steam power plant built in 1917 and a lot of the architecture remains. I found myself spending a lot of time just looking up and around at the stunning layout.
– the food is amazing! As I mentioned we had to wait because it was busy and the allergy situation but definitely worth it.
– the breakfast is also incredible, one of the best I have ever eaten in a hotel. Everything you could want.

– Great selection of drinks including gins!
– the staff are friendly and attentive. All staff say hello and do everything they can to make the stay more pleasant!
– the gym. We didn’t use the Spa (the treatment service has discontinued) but we did use the gym and it was very well equipped.
– Level 2 has the activity room with games to play including board games and computer games for kids.

The STEAM HOTEL is located in an 18-story former steam power plant building in Västerås that was commissioned in 1917. This industrial building has been converted into a stunning hotel that sits right on the shore of Lake Mälaren, the third-largest freshwater lake in Sweden. The building & hotel designers must have had a ball as they re-used so many little details from the original steam power plant coming up with an amazing design/ style that is complemented by appropriate lighting and music.

I was impressed and felt a warm welcome when I first walked into the well-designed, large lobby. The reception staff was super nice and efficient, but that can actually be said for all the extremely friendly and attentive staff that I met during my stay. The industrial décor and custom lighting continued throughout the corridors and also in the guest rooms. Mine felt very cozy and I really enjoyed the comfy bed (with 7 pillows!).

The hotel features a spa lounge with a heated outdoor pool, a large sauna with an indoor pool, and a bar on the 7th floor. There are several restaurants and bars. We tried the bar on the 1st floor, which had a great atmosphere and good bar but little food choices (the restaurant was completely full & noisy thanks to a large function at the time).

We therefore went to the rooftop restaurant on the 18th floor, which has a short menu of Asian-Swedish fusion cuisine that I really enjoyed and great service (thanks Emma!). Amazingly, also the breakfast buffet offered a fine selection, which is something I frequently struggle with in Sweden.

Incredible hotel and reasonable price. These rooms would go for hundreds more in the US. Very retro decor, very good restaurants and super breakfast. The lake views are to die for. Parking good for Sweden, the lounge is so unique with views, spa, heated outdoor with views.
