The hotel is very nice, the room was huge and comfortable with a bed that was one of the most comfortable I ever slept in. We had a room with a king bed, huge shower, and a view of the water. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
ike the eco friendliness with the efforts the Inn makes, including restoring native habitat to support the declining cottontail rabbit population. There are extra activities each day, which seem a good idea for the families that stay.
Inn by the Sea is nestled along the Crescent Beach and minutes from Portland Headlight (lighthouse). The accommodations exceeded our expectations and wanted for nothing. It was a relaxing atmosphere that was family and pet friendly at the same time. The property also exceeded my expectations – the landscaping, scenery and boardwalk takes you from the hillside along a march, wooded area to the dunes and beach.
There are many amenities on property that are included – bikes, restaurant, yoga, eco tour, beach chairs / umbrella and a beautiful pool.
The Inn is set beautifully on Crescent Beach, with raised walkways for easy, eco friendly enjoyment of the beach. The rooms were bright and well appointed. The bathrooms luxurious with large and absorbent towels and high end bath products. Windows open to allow fresh sea air in the guest rooms. The restaurant is superb, with a creative chef and delicious menu items (the lobster tacos were particularly amazing).
What keeps us coming back is the beautiful location, eco-friendliness and they use many local foods and products.
From the moment we arrived, the entire staff makes you feel so welcomed. We love that we are able to travel with our dog and have her there with us, enjoying dinner & cocktails in the lounge by the fire. She just thrives on all the attention she receives form the staff and other guests.
The setting is just gorgeous, there is a nice wooded walkway leading down to the most beautiful stretch of beach in Maine.
The accommodations are superb. Tastefully decorated rooms, most with that “beach feel”. The beds are some of the most comfortable I have slept on in an Inn.

First, there is its location on Prouts Neck, as peaceful and beguiling a place as you are likely to find, owing to its lack of through traffic and its being surrounded by quiet lanes and pathways. Everywhere you look, there is something beautiful to see.
Second, it’s such an inviting place. It’s all here for you. You can walk, run, bike, scramble along the seaside cliffs or stroll through the quiet woodlands of the nearby bird sanctuary, enjoy two beautiful beaches just steps away, or just relax with a good book in one of the Adirondack chairs on the lush green lawn, whatever suits you best. This is a very appealing place, where you hear birds singing and water gently lapping along the shore, NOT traffic noise. That alone makes it wonderful.
Ours was a spacious, comfortable, light-filled room with water views from 3 large windows. A nice touch was that the flowers in the vase on our small desk were fresh ones, daisies. We loved having the windows open for the refreshing breezes, but in the late afternoon heat appreciated having air conditioning, too. We very much enjoyed our room.
But our favorite place here at the inn was the veranda overlooking the West Beach, with its dramatic tidal changes. When the tide is out, the beach is transformed. You can wander or see others wandering way out in the shallows dotted with interesting shells and sea plants, or, if you take the short walk down there from the inn, witness the purely wonderful sight of piping plovers (protected on this beach) pecking in the sands at low tide for tasty snacks. This beach is uncrowded. Early one morning, I was the only person on it.
If getting sand in your shoes is not your idea of a good time, then you can just take in the sights from the veranda. Breakfast out there — big, tasty, and always so beautifully presented — is a pleasure. We also relished afternoon snacks and drinks while looking toward the white sand and blue water from the inn’s comfortable wicker chairs. Our favorite selection: a glass of delightful rosato frizzante (sparkling rosé wine) paired with a well-selected plate of cheeses, fruits and nuts. Pure pleasure.
Dinner at the inn was also quite the gustatory experience, from the “lobster bake” one night in The Point restaurant (superb) to the à la carte menu choices on the next night, with all of the food at peak freshness, with very appealing presentation. The ambience there was quiet, a bit more formal while still very friendly. For those looking for a little more excitement and a little less formality, there’s a lively pub scene too.
We had a great time. We will be back whenever we can next get away to the peaceable kingdom here at the Black Point Inn. Thanks to everyone who made our short visit so memorable and special.
Highly Recommended!
