Where to Stay in Bohemian Switzerland
A lot depends on when you are going, how you are getting there (local bus, car rented, train), and what you are looking for in the area.
Decin
Decin is the primary access point for the Czech side of Bohemian Switzerland. If you come by train and are headed to Hrensko or beyond, this will be your arrival town. Trains from Prague to Decin run hourly (depending on the season) and the cost is less than 5$ per person.
When booking your train ticket, there is an option to add baggage for an additional 1$. I chose this option for my one-way trip, but on my return journey to Prague, I decided not to pay and see if any fees applied onboard. However, I was not asked for any additional payment.
It is famous for its Zoo (one of the largest in the region), Decin Castle (with a great rose garden) – although we visited in mid November, the garden was closed as well as the entrance to the castle (due to Covid Restriction) and climbing nearby. If you want to continue your trip to Germany, there are many day cruises between Decin and Dresden. The main square is filled with German-style buildings and has a beautiful square.
During November when I visited the town it was a bit windy and not more than 5 degrees Celsius, so I would recommend staying one night and one full day to explore the town.
Decin Hotels
A popular hotel with good reviews is ARMEX LiveCentrum, located on the castle side area and 5 minutes to popular spots. It was described by one traveler as a “Well equipped apartment, very spacious and comfortable. Perfect for a long stay. Good restaurant for breakfast, dinner or drinks.”
Decin’s Best Restaurants
As we were not in a mood for more trekking in Hrensko area, we decided to stroll around Decin and eat at a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch.
The coffee place we visited had excellent coffee and very nice service and desserts.
Hrensko
Hrensko, a hidden gem nestled within the picturesque Bohemian Switzerland National Park, offers a unique blend of tranquility and adventure.
Although initially planning to stay at our primary accommodation option, we couldn’t resist the allure of exploring further and opted for the charming U Forta Hotel instead. As we ventured deeper into the village and municipality of Hrensko in Brno District, we were greeted by its vibrant energy and rich cultural diversity.
With approximately 300 inhabitants calling this enchanting place home, it was fascinating to discover that most of them were Vietnamese, adding an exotic touch to our escapade.
Embracing the essence of Hrensko, we embarked on an unforgettable journey filled with surprises and new experiences waiting at every twist and turn.
