Hotel del Lago

The location is superb on the best part of the lake. Very peaceful yet 10 min drive to town of Florence. The Hotel del Lago is run by a father-mother-son team that are attentive, charming, and well versed in the local attractions.

Boating is possible with good weather conditions. You can visit Tuscany wine yards in proximity. The Hotel del Lago is located in the Chianti region, and short half day trips to the wineries of the region is an easy thing if you rent a car. I also took day trips to Siena and Assisi, easily reached with plenty of time for sight leisurely sightseeing and a nice lunch at some roadside trattoria.

The hotel has simple clean rooms, it is located by a nice lake in a quiet area where you get a good sleep. They serve good and rich breakfast. The staff is friendly and helpful even though they don’t speak English (except for the manager) but they do the best to help if you need anything.

The knotty pine walls and large window that opened out over the lake really gives  you  the feeling that I you visiting a friend or relative, rather than in a hotel. For those who enjoy watching birds, there is a wealth of waterfowl that call this lake home.

The bathrooms are quite small but fully equipped.

Hotel Mia Cara
Hotel Mia Cara

Quite a charming hotel located not too far from the Santa Maria Nouvella train station. Also a nice 15 – 20 minute walk to the historical Piazza del Duomo and other stops of interest. Mia Cara is very close to Santa Maria Novella train station in a quiet side street, which is ideal if you have lots of bags.

The rooms are small, not unexpected for Europe, but the bathroom is a nice size. Beds were made everyday with clean towels in bath.

The rooms itself are great. Quiet, a nice view of the terraces and rooftops. Refrigerator and room safe. The tile floor makes room cold and uncomfortable.

The room have decent basic facilities but no frills, but clean.

The many paintings that adorn the walls right from the reception to the corridors and lining the stairs add an artsy, bright homely feeling to the place. Hotel staff at reception were very friendly and welcoming  and the spa services are reasonably priced.

Also the breakfast is really delicious. You can easily choose between variations if foods and sweets.

Breakfast is a great buffet that went beyond the usual waffles, dry cereal, juices and bagels. Large selection of breads, fresh made scrambled eggs, potatoes and believe or not, salad which somehow worked. Also has pickles that were not out of a jar. Fresh fruit, yogurt and a great coffee machine. Also has cakes and candy. The setting is nice and I imagine in the summer, you can enjoy breakfast outside.

The wifi is covered all over the hotel strongly and the speed was fine.

5. Grand Hotel Cavour Florence – Gay Friendly Hotel Florence

Grand Hotel Cavour
Grand Hotel Cavour

Our last recommendation for a gay friendly hotel in Florence is a 4* hotel located in the city center of Firenze.

Grand Hotel Cavour has a rooftop terrace with views over Florence Cathedral. It offers a grand entrance hall with free WiFi, marble floors and statues, and elegant rooms with air conditioning.

The Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio are both less than 600 m from the Grand Hotel Cavour. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is just a few steps away.

The restaurant serves classic Italian cuisine and regional specialties, made using local ingredients. Cocktails are available at the bar, open until midnight.

This hotel is in a great location for exploring the whole of Florence. Everything you would want to see is within walking distance and there are some great places to eat nearby. For example, Yellow, The Fish Lab and the Piccatori. Another great restaurant is the Bocadama in Sante Croce square. But the list is endless!

The rooms are clean and spacious and the whole place felt very friendly and safe. If you are a light sleeper take ear plugs though, as it is very difficult to get away from the hourly bells, as the hotel is near to many bell towers including the Duomo. However, I imagine this would be an issue in many hotels in Florence.

The rooms are spacious, well appointed with a luxury bathroom.  The bathroom are well equipped and large enough for its purpose

The breakfast is amazing with a large variety of choices including American favorites: pancakes, waffles, crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausage links. There are also fresh fruit, juices, nuts, bread, yogurt, cereals, cold milk, cold cuts, cheese slices and even fresh honeycomb!

There is a beautiful but tiny rooftop bar with great views; you’ll need to reserve a table in advance.

How much does a room costs at Grand Hotel Cavour?

Prices start 150$/night for Standard Double Room. The Deluxe Double is Room 285$/night.

Featuring deluxe furnishings and a marble mosaic bathroom, this room comes with air conditioning and a satellite TV.
