There are a lot of gay bars in different parts of Koh Samui Island. The biggest and most visible concentration of gay and lesbian bars clubs and gay friendly hotel Koh Samui is in the Tongson bay area. The Gay Pride Festival festival takes place at the beginning of April each year!
Ko Samui (เกาะสมุย) is an island located in the Chumphon Archipelago in the Gulf of Thailand, some 700 km south of Bangkok and about 80 km from the eastern coastline of Southern Thailand.
Ko Samui, Thailand’s second largest island, lies in the Gulf of Thailand off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. It’s known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts and posh spas. The landmark 12m-tall golden Big Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai Temple is located on a tiny island connected to Ko Samui by a causeway.
Koh Samui is a fairly big island. The most popular and commercialised beaches are Chaweng and Lamai, while the northern beaches and their adjacent villages of Mae Nam, Bophut, Bang Rak (Big Buddha) and Choeng Mon are more peaceful choices, and the west coast beaches are still (comparatively) quiet.
Top attractions to visit in Ko Samui
If you’re heading to Samui for a wellness or yoga retreat and don’t mind paying a million dollars to get there, I’d say definitely go for it. However, if you’re planning a trip to Samui because you think it’s a beautiful island oasis, you might want to think again.

The exteriors of the buildings and the landscape have been totally revamped and upgraded transforming the property into a tropical paradise. The property is less than 10 minutes drive (3 km) from Samui International Airport and less than 15 minutes walk (1 km) to the white sand and blue waters of the infamous Chaweng Beach where gay bars, dance clubs and cabaret shows are located.
KC Beach Club Chaweng is 1.2 km from the accommodation, while Solo Bar is 800 m away.
Located off busy street of Chaweng, some good and cheap restaurants in the area. You can have a good breakfast just across the street.
The hotel doesn’t located on the beach, you need to walk about 15 minutes. So if you looking for beachfront hotel, that hotel is not for you. Located on hillside in from of Chaweng lake.
Alpha has nice pool and they organise pool parties on Wednesday and Saturday. Bar prices are very reasonable – beer 120B, cocktail 220B.
Great location to discover Samui by foot or motorbike.
Rooms are spotless, spacious, comfortable. Mattresses are brand new and just as I like. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Location is perfect – 8 minute walk to the center of town, 10 minute walk to beautiful beachfront.
The resort is in a good location very close to the central festival shopping mall and the well stocked supermarket ,Not really that close to Pride the Gay bar although it is walkable along a very busy road probably 20 minutes from the resort (Best to take a shortcut through the mall ).
The breakfast is served across the road directly opposite the resort and a good tip. Don’t purchase the hotel voucher for 350 Baht If you walk across the road to the cafe you pay 250 Baht and you have a choice of a continental breakfast for 190 Baht and the Girls working there are lovely and friendly.
We can surely recommend this place. Beautiful old but really nicely renovated hotel just a short walking distance from the really busy Chaweng road. Rooms are spacious, well kept clean and air conditioning keeps the room nice on a hot nights. Nice hot shower.
Staff is really friendly and helpful with everything you might have.
We end up spending most of our days by the pool which was really nice and cozy. Also marvellous way to get new friends all over the world.
They have regular pool parties which brings other tourists from the island and you can really enjoy spending times with other gays.
A fantastic holiday in a unique and lovely gay resort. Together with my boy friend we enjoyed 2½ weeks at Alpha Gay Resort and really enjoyed every moment.
The resort itself offers very comfortable accommodation in a really nice surrounding. The pool is great, a great advantage is the permission for Alpha guests to have a swim 24 hours a day – so even nice if you come back from the bars late in the night, and you want to enjoy a refreshing swim there.
Regular pool parties are always fun.The service at the resort is superb. Jun, the owner and manager, always has an open ear for you, even in case you have anything in the night. The complete Alpha staff is extremely friendly and is passionate about customer satisfaction. If you want a unique and fantastic holiday among men I really recommend Alpha Gay Resort.Looking forward to coming back to Alpha

3. Baan Samui Resort Koh Samui – Gay Friendly Hotel Koh Samui
Located on a private area along Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui, Baan Samui Resort offers rooms steps from the beach. The resort features an outdoor pool and offers Thai massages by the beachfront.
Baan Samui Resort is a convenient 15-minute drive from Samui Airport. The Thai Boxing Stadium is 500 m away.
Colourful rooms offer a balcony and come with cable TV channels and tea and coffee-making facilities. It features wooden furnishings that complements its tropical surroundings.
Shops and an internet corner are available in the resort. The resort also has a sauna and library. A variety of watersports including scuba diving and jet skiing can be enjoyed by the beach.
The location of this resort is very handy to the centre of Chaweng but once you are inside the resort grounds there is no noise from Chaweng Beach Beach Road. The beach is nice and clean. The only downside is the beach vendors. It’s almost a constant parade of people trying to sell you things. This is not really any fault of the hotel but rather Chaweng beach in general.

Center of Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui, Thailand Baan Samui Resort is located on the secluded and enchanting Chaweng beach, far from the ordinary and the mundane. Step into the colour and the beauty of this amazing hideaway. Sit back relax and absorb the serene and exotic atmosphere. Your dreams can become reality at Baan Samui Resort.
Rooms are comfortable with great air conditioning and decorated Thai style. They are certainly not 5 star but beds were extremely comfortable and rooms were cleaned well every day.
The accommodation itself is nothing fancy, but very comfortable and clean. Try and get a room closest to the pool/beach as the ones towards the reception can be noisy from the band that plays at the front of the hotel.
Pool area is always clean and ample towels available Breakfast is fantastic with plenty of choice available. The pool is right on the beachfront so you had the choice of swimming in either the pool or sea.
The restaurant/bar is located right on the beach and besides the pool, it offers a good range of dining options including indoor/outdoor or beach dining tables. Full service is available around the pool with free wifi and happy hour 4.00 to 6.00pm for super cheap cocktails and free nibbles.
Breakfast is great with lots of local choices to complement the traditional English Breakfast.
It’s perfect for a short trip, located centrally in Chaweng, right on the beach. You can decide to walk along the street for good food, live music, shopping, etc. etc. or otherwise, walk along the beach over to places with a vibrant nightlife (check out the pyrotechnics at Ark bar), everything is close by. The rooms are very sweet and comfortable and the restaurant is a very nice place to stare at the sea and contemplate. The people here are very polite and accommodating as well.
I would recommend this place if staying Koh Samui is a stop over to one of the smaller islands. It’s an hour’s drive away to the jetty, if you need to take a ferry, so wake up early, the boats are mostly on schedule, unless cancelled.
Located in a better part of Chaweng Beach this colourful resort was just what we needed. The staff were amazing, nothing too much trouble- the senior lady at breakfast remember our coffee choices every day we had their excellent breakfast. Numerous pastries ,an espresso machine, wonderful fruit and so on.
The rooms were very comfortable and colourful. There was a band or singer every night at the front of the hotel but once you shut the door of your room it was peaceful. The restaurant on the beach was excellent and reasonably priced.
We would definitely stay here again.

4. Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas & Spa by L’Occitane – Gay Friendly Hotel Koh Samui
Steps away from the white sand of Nai Wok Beach, Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas & Spa by L’Occitane boasts luxurious accommodation, as well as an outdoor infinity pool and a private beach. It offers the convenience of an on-site restaurant, 2 bars and free WiFi, which is available throughout the resort.
Thong Sala Pier and the shopping street are a 10-minute drive from the property. Samui Island is a 30-minute boat ride away.
Units are stylish and tastefully decorated. They are equipped with air conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities and a satellite TV. En suite bathrooms come with a bathtub, a hairdryer and complimentary L’Occitane toiletries. All villas come with a private pool. Some villas also have a Segafredo Zanetti® coffee machine

Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas and Spa by l’Occitane Kupu Kupu Phangan is a quaint, 36 pool villas and 5 Suites resort that takes its influence in design and architecture from Thai culture, with a hint of Balinese charm. The traditional style villa using ceramic and Balinese wood is a trademark of Kupu Kupu Resorts.
Absolute Facing West, the resort offers an amazing sunset on the Gulf of Thailand. The Spa by L’Occitane incorporates two double treatment rooms facing an infinity pool with unparalleled sea view. It offers a customized menu of well-being and beauty rituals delivered using modern expertise to nurture the body, mind and spirit.
Signature rituals, inspired by Provence, also address the effects of modern living using natural ingredients and the intuitive art of touch.
The hotel is spectacular, absolutely stunning in every way, and the resort has thought of absolutely everything. Amazing shampoo, conditioner and body wash by L’Occitane in the hotel showers, mosquito repellant spray in the rooms, air conditioning in the rooms, and the view at the hotel is out of this world, truly breathtaking.
The rooms are amazing, with ample facilities included, making our stay very comfortable.
The breakfast is very good, there are many choices available (Continental, Asian) and the portions are generous.
Kupu Kupu is an idyllic hotel, boutique almost with less than 40 rooms. It holds true to the feel and beauty of the island.
The first being Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas and Spa by l’Occitane is hands-down the most luxurious resort you can find along the entire Southern end surrounding Thong Sala. Having trekked across the entire stretch of beaches along the lower half of the isle, no beach-side competitors in said geographic vicinity come even close in terms of elegance and luxury from mere eye test alone.
Kupu Kupu’s towering, vaulted villas along the beachfront and main pool, adorned by well-groomed garden landscaping of lush tropical trees and foliage, are visibly at face value the most majestic sight on the Southern shores.
Yet the hidden jewels are in the details of the interiors, complemented by top notch hospitality service for their guests. Both of which lift this bijou resort to the next level, above & beyond the field.
For example, Kupu offers complimentary transportation pick-up from Thong Sala Pier for their arriving guests disembarking their boats. At lobby check-in, guests are greeted warmly by well-trained and courteous staff, along with cool, scented towels, refreshing cold herbal drinks, and sweet cookies to rejuvenate from an arduous journey en route for the bliss to come. To our relief, the check-in process was much speedier than most establishments.
From counter to villa was just a short wait. Upon entering our sea-view pool villa, my partner and I were pleasantly surprised by the meticulous, celebratory decorations on and around the bed to mark our anniversary.
Our sincerest gratitude to everyone involved in embellishing the intricate layout with fresh flowers to spark the heart-warming mood. Big thanks to our amicable, front-end room service attendant Chay and his team members for your painstaking efforts. Bravo to the behind curtain chef who prepared our box of sweet French macaroons (and our delicious Pirate Night Seafood BBQ dinner and daily breakfast with delicious puff pastries).
Shout-out to the unseen, back-end staff Nichawan and Jirapa of reservation, and Min of guest relations who made our email correspondences in English language utterly seamless.
On the front line, cordial breakfast waiters Daek and Tik also deserve management commendations like the other above-mentioned names. All of whom exhibited equanimous professionalism on par with world class hospitality.
The squeaky clean villa was idyllically cool upon entering as the considerate staff were detailed oriented enough to turn on the room’s air conditioning (with mosquito repellent already plugged in) beforehand as they were prepared for our approximate arrival time. Further testament to the efficacy of said back-end logistics.
The two powerful A/C machines in the bedroom were more than capable of reversing the heat from the exterior balmy clime. The waxed clean hardwood floors were also literally squeaky to the touch of skin, though comfortable Kupu Kupu labelled slippers were thoughtfully provided in lieu of walking bare footed. The spacious, mosaic tiled shower space were spotlessly clean down to the upper and lower corners and crevices.
The sturdy & shimmering stone bathtub laid out in the middle of the open bathroom space opposite the TOTO faucet stone wash sinks were elegant in decorative contrast to the curved teak wood furniture pieces of the bed panel, luggage stand, and main work desk.
Agreeable, warm lighting fixtures of local motifs flank the corners, or attached to wooden beams above to create a traditional yet modern relaxed ambience. Above the desk sits a sleek Italian Segafredo Zanetti espresso machine with complimentary coffee packets from the same renowned brand. Twinings Earl Grey, English, Jasmine, and Green tea packets, as well as Nescafe, and Ovaltine chocolate mix are on the house.
Other villa creature comforts: Super comfortable Thai latex pillows are also available for all guests upon request. The extremely high mosquito canopy that’s raised near the vaulted ceiling is one of the tallest you may find in Thailand. Very clean and royalesque fit for a princess. The bed mattress under the cover is just right, not too soft nor too firm. The blanket would benefit more if fluffier when dual A/Cs are turned on too high when asleep. The bathroom body, face, and hand towels are soft & fluffy, and freshly scented with undertones of sweet fragrance. A home perfume diffuser is also placed above the closet. In alignment to the l’Occitane brand focus, aromatic sensual pleasures are tended to in the living quarters.
Other notable complimentary items are the much sought-after l’Occitane toiletries of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Perhaps the l’Occitane lotions are only available for the Beachfront Pool Villas, along with complimentary alcohol from the minibar as previous reviewers have mentioned.
The Beachfront Pool Villas are highly recommended not just for their extra amenities, but for their privileged beach-side locations/view. At least five Kupu beach cleaning crew members can be seen every morning maintaining the purity of the sands. The numerous picturesque photos of natural boulders above aqua seawater speak for themselves. Not to mention the most adorable & intelligent golden retriever on the beach will greet you during your entire stay… the most popular and beloved guest/host in the eyes of all dog lovers from around the world arriving at Kupu Kupu

How much does a room costs at Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas?
Prices start 222 $/night for Seaview Suite. The Deluxe Beachfront Pool Villa is 492$/room per night with breakfast included – if coming on a honeymoon this is the perfect choice for gay couples.
Located along the stretch of the stunning white sandy beach, the villa comes with a private plunge pool facing the sea. Guests can enjoy sunset views from their private sun terrace completed with sun loungers and a dining area. Complimentary spirits and light snacks are offered. Guests can enjoy self-brewed coffee using Segafredo Zanetti® coffee machine.

5. Deva Beach Resort & Spa Koh Samui – Gay Friendly Hotel Koh Samui
Located in the secluded beach of Choeng Mon with stunning sunset views, Deva Samui Resort. There are 3 outdoor pools and a seafront area. Free in-room WiFi is provided.
Deva Samui is 3.5 km from Koh Samui International Airport and 6 km from the island’s lively Chaweng area. Bangrak Pier is just a short drive away.
The spacious rooms are decorated in a light holiday style, with large windows and soft lighting. Guests can slip on the fluffy bathrobe and enjoy a drink from the minibar. Suites include an outdoor balcony or patio.
A very romantic setting in a quiet area. The hotel is on the beach and has a lovely infinity pool with a pool bar.
Beautiful boutique hotel set slightly away from the rest of Koh Samui but closer to the Airport and Big Buddha. Very romantic settings, especially the rooms in which the balcony opens up to the pool.
The rooms are beautiful and elegant, spacious and dramatic and we would definitely recommend the grand deluxe type.
Deva Samui Resort & Spa offers guests a tropical escape on Thailand’s renowned boutique island destination. On a secluded bay with direct access to the white sand beach.
The grand deluxe rooms are very large and spacious , have big bathrooms and a lovely little terrace with outdoor hot tub.
The breakfast each morning is great, there are a lot of choice and they changed things up most days as well. The egg station was great, eggs everyday!
The resort has 2 Lagoon pool and 1 infinity pool with bar with a perfect view of the beach.
Location is good if you want quiet. Staff are great , cocktails amazing especially during happy hours. Food good but pricey. Many nights the restaurant was empty as other eateries around were better value.
Rooms are spacious but beware the mozzies get in through badly fitted doors.. bitten 20+ times one night.
Cleaners in everyday but they leave the doors open while doing so.. if a rainy day those suckers are abundant. Free shuttle bus to a beach up the road which is busy and has plenty of sellers to keep you occupied. Fisherman’s village a must.. especially on a market night, streets of wares and bustling restaurants. Overall a lovely place with temples up the road to look at.
The place is stunning and I have nothing bad to say. It’s pricey but worth it. The infinity pool, the location on a small private beach ( although the sea was beautiful you need swim shoes as it’s quiet stoney) was all a perfect place to relax for a couple of days.
The room was airy, bright and clean. It had a new feel to the room and the aircon was lovely and cold. The bathroom was OK but poorly designed as the water from the shower would flood the toilet area leaving about 2 cm of water behind that wouldn’t drain because of the strange cobbled shower floor. I reported this to reception but nothing was done.
I managed to alleviate some of the flooding by removing the cover to the waste in the shower.
The direct pool access rooms are a bit of a waste of money as the the pool loungers are on the other side of the pool so still need to exit the room or swim over to the loungers to use them.
The pools in the hotel were good, warm water and clean, lovely big balcony area in the room with an outside bed and ceiling fan. They also provided some incense for burning to keep the mozzies away outside but it was not effective.
Tip: get a cab into fisherman’s village (300 – 400 THB) and eat and drink there or if feeling brave walk to near the entrance to Big Buddha, there are a few eateries there too.

The interiors of the 40 suites which comprise Code are composed to provide the very highest level of uber-chic luxury and won ‘Best Interior Design’ at both the 2012 Asia Pacific Property Awards and the 2012 Thailand Property Awards. This stunning design hotel can be best described as flawless.
This boutique hotel is a little ‘remote’ and you need to make an effort to get to the popular areas of Samui but if you want great service, a place to relax by the pool and free shuttle to the beach then this is as good as any you will find on this magical island of Koh Samui.
Code is located on top of the hill but offers regular drop off-s and pick up-s to and from 7 Eleven which is 5 minutes away down the hill and near the beach.
The location is off from the main areas perched up on a hillside that offers spectacular views from every room. The style is modern and minimalist with comfortable being a focus. Bed was firm and bedding luxurious.
The beautiful infinity pool provided a great way to cool off after soaking up some sun in the chaise lounges which share that same amazing view of the gulf and Ko Phaluai. Be sure to get the breakfast buffet included and enjoy a fresh omelette and waffle made to order. The espresso, fresh juices, assortment of breads and pastries along with friendly staff will round out a delightful morning
While the rooms are not that large (about 50 sqm) , the views are pretty spectacular as the hotel is built on a hill, with a beautiful balcony, complete with a cosy cabana. and the layout of the rooms is very functional.
The main ingredient that took this basic boutique hotel from good to great, was the staff. They were all attentive, friendly, and made our entire stay feel like we were home away from home.
The hotel provide a shuttle service that takes you into fisherman village and chaweng. Although the hotel is not located on the beachfront, they more than make up for it with their brand beach club Chi (the shuttle takes you there too). This beach club is incredible! We would definitely come back and stay at Code again next time we are in Samui.
Everything about this hotel was on point!
The location is perfect for a romantic getaway if you want to avoid the crowds and chaos. Not ideal for backpackers or people with kids.
The breakfast buffet was scrumptious with a good balance between Eastern and Western cuisine.
The facilities & amenities included a gym, spa, sauna, hot tub, steam room, outdoor pool and bar. All were in excellent condition.
The bed and pillows were super comfortable. I cannot express the importance enough. I actually want to know where they got their pillows from.
What was also amazing was the free shuttle service to the nearest grocer as well as to the Chi beach club that is in another bay but owned by the same group.
Lastly, but probably most importantly, the staff at the Code were all so friendly, warm and hospitable, we felt very much at home.
Attention to detail and always going the extra mile to make our stay as comfortable as possible was a consistent theme. They had a great itinerary of daily activities planned that allowed us to experience the Thai culture and made us feel like part of a family.
You cannot go wrong with the Code Boutique hotel.
