In ILGA-Europe‘s 2015 review of LGBT rights, the UK received the highest score in Europe, with 86% progress toward “respect of human rights and full equality” for LGBT people and 92% in Scotland alone.

1. Hazlitt’s Hotel London – Gay Hotels London

London’s Theatreland, in the heart of the West End, this 4-star boutique hotel offers beautiful rooms with antique furniture and free Wi-Fi. There is a 24-hour front desk and a library lounge.

The unique bedrooms at Hazlitt’s have sumptuous decor and elegant panelled walls. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, minibar and work desk, and the luxury bathrooms feature REN toiletries.

Surrounded by Soho’s restaurants and clubs, this upscale boutique hotel occupies a row of Victorian townhouses, and is a 3-minute walk from Oxford Street shopping and Tottenham Court tube station.

The lavish 18th-century rooms and suites feature antique furniture with carved wooden or 4-poster beds, panelled walls, original fireplaces and bathrooms with period features. All have free WiFi, flat-screen TVs and minibars. Upgraded rooms have iPod docks, and themed suites, with Blu-ray players, include one with a roof garden and a retractable glass roof. There’s 24-hour room service

Gay Friendly Hotel London
Hazlitt’s occupies a group of historic Georgian houses in Frith Street, off Soho Square. In 1718 there were no modern conveniences, but we have updated the plumbing, installed bathrooms and replaced most of the candles with electricity. At Hazlitt’s our philosophy is simple. We have set out to create the kind of accommodation we ourselves would love to find in the heart of one of the World’s great cities. Civilised surroundings; old fashioned hospitality; friendly efficient service; a location away from the roar of traffic, but within a very short walk of the most important attractions.

If you want a very English experience, this is the hotel for you. Formed of three mews houses linked together, this is an independent hotel that celebrates it’s location and heritage. Given the central London location (just off Soho Square, across the road from Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and easy walking distance to many central London attractions) the rooms were surprisingly quiet. The location is perfect if you’re going to make the most of London’s theatre district.

The building dates to the early 18th century which means there aren’t any parallel lines or 90 degree angles anywhere as the building has settled (this goes for the stairs as well!). But it oozes charm and is tastefully decorated. Its a few minutes walk from the British Museum and very close to one of London’s most famous Jazz Clubs.

The front desk folks are very helpful and professional, the cleaning staff were efficient and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom had beautiful fixtures and a giant bathtub with plenty of hot water.

The rooms reflect the building’s heritage – loved the clawfoot bath and antique bedhead. Long haul travellers with a lot of luggage may want to consider upgrading to a larger room – space in the room would be tight if it was a couple with a large suitcase each.

The bathroom was also impressive; for all the hotel’s age, the plumbing, whilst being a little eccentric, works as it should.

Breakfast is served in your room as there is no dining room and no cooked breakfast option.

Breakfast is tasty and presented well. The breakfast menu isn’t huge but is well chosen enough to make sure that, whatever your dietary requirements, you needn’t be hungry when you set out in the morning. The quality of everything that arrives is outstanding: the teas, the coffee, the juice, the porridge, are all delicious.

This hidden gem is situated in a quiet part of Soho a 10 minute walk from Tottenham court road tube station, close to numerous restaurants, pubs (gay and straight) theatres and shops.
The hotel, three Georgian houses, is a listed building and has a traditional English style decor which is quirky, eccentric, charming and cosy.

We stayed in Mrs Millets room a panelled room furnished with antique and reproduction furniture, rich coloured fabrics, atmospheric lamps and a comfortable tester bed. It was clean and exceptionally welcoming. Air con, internet and free WiFi were available in the room. The spotlessly clean bathroom had a high level cistern toilet, period style bath with power shower mixer, numerous toiletries, large soft white towels and dressing gowns.

The hotel has no restaurant but good quality and reasonably priced meals can be taken in the room. The room lacks tea making facilities but a tea tray can be ordered from reception. The hotel has an honesty bar in the library which is a rare thing to encounter these days and numerous reception rooms. The few hotel staff we came into contact with were efficient, friendly and extremely helpful.

If you are looking for an ultra modern soulless dreary and dull hotel then Hazlitt’s is not for you. If your looking for a hotel full of character and a taste of old England then you will love this place. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be back later in the year.

The hotel is excellently located in Soho, close to many gay or hipster establishments. Only downside is that on weekends there can be substantial street noise as bar patrons sing their way down the streets and/or the occasional lovers’ quarrel.

Stayed in the John Snow Room… spacious, beautifully furnished with a roomy window box with cushion and pillows perfect for a reading, internet surfing, or afternoon tea. Bed was incredibly comfortable. Bathroom was HUGE with large standing shower and an antique clawfoot tub. The toilet itself was embedded in an antique wooden commode which originally stored the honeypot.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was impeccable. The rooms are pricey but worth the indulgence. HIGHLY recommended.

The Z Hotel Soho
The Z Hotel Soho

he Z Hotel Soho has everything you need for a couple of nights in town. Concentrated style, an out-of-town price and the West End – at your feet the moment you step out the door. No off-central, tourist hotels for you.Space is unimportant. How you use it is vital. You step into your Z Room, and suddenly the price makes perfect sense. You’re staying in central Soho, where space is at a premium. But you’re not paying a premium.

We have rooms start from 8 to 14 square meters of compact luxury.Z Soho is a designer conversion of twelve Georgian townhouses. From the outside you see classic architectural proportions, combined with contemporary style. Inside, you find 85 rooms gathered around a central courtyard. And it places you in Moor Street, between the theatre and bookshops of Cambridge Circus and Charing Cross Road – and the vivid cosmos of Old Compton Street.

The location is great for the theatre and for getting around on the underground. Right around the corner is the Palace Theatre where Harry Potter is playing and down the street is Prince Edward’s Theatre and the hotel/our annex room was just off Charing Cross and near the intersection with Shaftsbury

With really nice room — small but very well appointed — comfortable bed with very lovely linens, a nice modern bathroom with shower and vessel sink. The room also has a little kitchenette: a stove, oven, small refrigerator, sink and a pantry with plates & flatware. Rooms comes with a double bed, TV, closet and desktop, along with a kitchenette, which is great. There is an oven and a stove-op, along with a small refrigerator. There is not a dresser.

A frosted glass panel separates sleeping area from shower / toilet so not suitable to share with anyone you are not comfortable being ‘intimate’ with

The bathroom was small but again comfortable and modern.

Breakfast is served in a small café at the back of the hotel . While the space is a little cramped, it is rarely a problem since breakfast is served for a long time. The food is good – cheese, meat, smoked salmon, pastries, yoghurt, cereal, coffee and tea – and it is fresh.

Not to mention the free wine and cheese served between 5 and 8 pm, it all added up to very pleasant stay indeed.

First, check in was a breeze, and the front desk attendants were friendly and informative. I used to live in London and have worked in hospitality as a manager– London is not known for stellar customer service, but there was obviously a difference at the Z.

he room- it’s so very small. It’s clean, the shower is amazing, and it has all basic amenities, but it’s tiny. There is nowhere for luggage, so if you have any (we had small backpacks) you will be frustrated.

We frequently do these quick trips to central London, and the Z Hotel will be our new go-to! Definitely convenient for the gay nightlife, if that’s your thing!

Our room was very nicely decorated and the laid out. Very modern features, the only area for improvement would be to have better air conditioning for both when it is hot and when using the shower as our room didn’t have any windows.

The location of the hotel is perfect for the gay scene and a London centre location.

Great hotel very quirky. Yes the rooms are small but perfect for a weekend away in the city will defo be returning. It is in a great position and within walking distance to all the major sites. The staff are very helpful and you are at the heart of the gay village.

The hotel is steps from the gay district in Soho and a couple of blocks from the Leicester square tube station which is a straight shot from heathrow. It’s a few blocks to great shopping and a few more to most of the big monuments.

There are three train stations nearby.

Studios2Let
Studios2Let

In a Georgian crescent building in the King’s Cross neighbourhood, this unassuming apartment hotel is across the road from Cartwright Gardens and a 13-minute walk from the British Museum.

The unfussy apartments feature wood floors and kitchens, and include flat-screen TVs, DVD players and complimentary Wi-Fi. Some have balconies or garden patios.

There are landscaped gardens.

Studios2Let Serviced Apartments is a recently renovated and modernized property located in the heart of Bloomsbury. All apartments have en suite bathrooms. Furnished and fully fitted with flat screen TVs and DVD players, safe box, bathroom amenities, beautifully designed kitchens, fully equipped with all modern appliances including top of the range ovens, microwaves and fridge/freezer.

All our studios come with double mattresses and our luxury bed linens will ensure a comfortable sleep. Other facilities welcome pack, free internet, over 30 TV channels (including selection of Sky channels) 24 hour Concierge Service and CCTV, laundry room, Fob key entry system, roof terrace and communal garden and lounge, weekly maid service. Location: Studios2Let is ideally located in the heart of Bloomsbury

The apartment is lovely, with everything to hand, oven, freezer, fridge, microwave, toaster, hob and all the necessary crockery, cutlery etc. that you could need. Bed are very comfortable. While the apartment is not that huge it is perfectly adequate for the two persons. Bathroom is small but functional and the shower was lovely! WiFi was strong and free.

Studios2Let: it contained all the amenities you can get in an non-serviced apartment room right on the city fringe of London. The corner unit we were booked in was well-equipped with a safe, oven, microwave oven, mini fridge, electric stove, drinking cups, crockery, utensils and even a set of Ikea kitchen knives.

While the apartment has almost everything you need to stay and cook, the corner room, while spacious enough, was cramped by a king-size bed plonked right in the middle, stifling any free space and easement for any hapless occupants. One side of the bed faced the wall with no space for whoever was sleeping on that side to get out decently. You have to get out of the bed by clambering out onto the bed end. Do check under your comforter and bedsheets for any bed bugs. If you felt any itch on your legs and body, it most likely harboured bugs. Ours certainly did.

The kitchen cupboards were well-built and provided sufficient space. However, the counter top and the top-hung cupboards were at a stratospheric height, reachable and useful only if you’re a Harlem basketball player.

You’d be careful not to sit on the foldable wooden chairs (the type you’d bring to a beach soirée) as they were tiny and as fragile as if they were made of clay. In fact, both our chair seats were fractured and were swiftly repaired by the hotel staff.

In general, while the room we had was not exactly a small room but it was certainly not thoughtfully designed. If you are a tall person with a considerable beer paunch, please don’t attempt to use the shower cubicle. You’ll need a forklift to extricate you off the cubicle. That is if you did manage to get past the bathroom door to begin with. (So, it’s true what a hotel guest commented on Trip Advisor that when her husband sat on the WC, his nose touched the wall.) You need to be careful too where you turned and moved about in the room and bathroom lest you’ll have daily head banging, body slamming experiences.

Overall, half the front desk and support team were helpful and cordial, the other half were cold and distant.

What the apartment room lacked in the above, it made up for its location, Bloomsbury. Whenever we stepped out of the apartment, we were met with soft fresh cool September breezes blowing across from the verdant Cartwright Gardens (originally built in the 1800s) to the crescent shaped Georgian buildings housing Studios2Let and a host of other hotels.

Studios2Let overlooked into two tennis courts and the Gardens, home to fat grey squirrels. This garden/park was surrounded by beautifully redeveloped Georgian buildings with expressively profiled facade. It’s location was excellent due to its proximity to St Pancras International Station (Victorian station for Eurostar trains to France and yonder Europe), King’s Cross (Platform 9 3/4), Russell Square and Euston train stations. Saunter farther south from Cartwright Gardens will lead you to an eclectic neighborhood of quaint coffee shops and restaurants, including a Greek and Kurdish restaurant, English tuck shops and pubs, grocers, pharmacies, bakeries and even a gay bookshop.

Even though you’re not too far from the ever busy smoggy Euston Road, it was always a pleasant walkabout in this idyllic, serene and clean neighborhood lined with rows and rows of aesthetic urban architecture. Not to be missed was its convenient distance to the University of London, British Library, British Museum, Cartoon Museum, Charles Dickens Museum, Foundling Museum, Russell Square Park. And, it took merely 20 mins by train and 40 mins by bus from Studios2Let to St Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of London city
