Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Turkey face some legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT persons. Same-sex sexual activity was legalised in the Ottoman Empire—the predecessor of the modern-day Republic of Turkey—in 1858, and in modern Turkey, homosexual activity has always been a legal act since the day it was founded on 29 October 1923. LGBT people have had the right to seek asylum in Turkey under the Geneva Convention since 1951.
Turkey is not the most liberal county in the world but still it is a place LGBT people can visit comfortably as the tourists resorts like Bodrum and the capital city of Istanbul. Antalya and Bodrum are very relaxed and laid back tourists destination for everybody.
Antalya is a Turkish resort city with a yacht-filled Old Harbor and beaches flanked by large hotels. It’s a gateway to Turkey’s southern Mediterranean region, known as the Turquoise Coast for its blue waters. Remnants remain from Antalya’s time as a major Roman port. These include Hadrian’s Gate, built to honor the Roman emperor’s visit in 130 A.D and 2nd-century Hidirlik Tower, with harbor views.

The hotel was easy to get to from the airport, it cost approx. 48-50 Lira to get there and took approx. 25 mins.
The Hotel staff were polite, most of them spoke English, it was clean, well presented and had a “takeaway” or a “diet coke” version of Starbucks in the lobby which we liked. The drinks were made using a machine, as opposed to a person (first time we ever came across a Starbucks like it), but we found the drinks to be so good, we went back every day.
Breakfast was nice, nothing spectacular, but certainly ticked all of the boxes. Clean, well presented, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Also as we went in October, the hotel wasn’t too busy at breakfast time, so we always found seats and a table and it was pleasant and quiet.
The room we got was on the 8th floor, with a lovely view towards Lara beach, with a back drop of the sea and mountains. Excellent.
The room was clean, everything was nice, the only drawback was with a baby, we needed a larger room. It felt very small when you consider your luggage (bags), a baby cot (which they kindly arranged for us very quickly) and a pram. The room in some places became a bit of a tight squeeze.
The hotel runs a shuttle to Lara beach at set times and brings you back (if a beach holiday is what you’re looking for).
It has a Taxi stand nearby and that was always very handy. We never waited too long before being able to catch a taxi.
The Holiday Inn Lara is approximately 20-25 minutes to the Old city of Antalya (the main city centre), we did 6 round trips on the 3 days we were there and each time it cost approximately 46 – 48 Lira each way.
So from my perspective, the location was good. Very Good.
Location is quite good as well. Reasonably close to the beach. You can either take a 10 minute walk to the public beach or use Holiday Inn’s shuttle to the private beach. Taxi to the private beach will cost around 10TL. You can use the bus as well if you wanted. Also quite close to the hotel you have basic mini-supermarket facilities for everyday essentials and other shops with handy stuff. Kaleici (old town) and the city’s malls are also not too far away.
Taxi ride would cost around 50-60TL depends on where you go. Bus cost 2.60TL per journey (contactless card payments). Also Antalya airport is not too far off. This is positive for access but negative side is you keep hearing planes landing and taking off many times during the day and it can be quite loud.
We had a very cozy room with a balcony and a beautiful sea view. The room had everything you need from furniture and hygiene products. The room was cleaned daily. The quality of cleaning is perfect! We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel.Well thought-out menu, a variety of dishes that meet all requests. The quality of cooking is beyond praise!
Room: Very bright, cozy room with everything you need for your stay; extremely comfortable beds and pillows; great view from the balcony (recommending higher floor).
Food: If you want to have a piece of mind – add breakfast and dinner to your booking! They must have a great chief on premises! Food is delicious, tasty and fresh with a huge variety (several types of salads, great choice of dishes with meat, fish, chicken, as well as vegetarian dishes, not to mention traditional sweets, fruits, smoothies, cakes, dry fruits, and of course, tea and coffee, juices.
Spa: Definitely recommending to visit Anemon Spa center (located on the ground floor of the hotel, next to the gym). Special thanks to Tatyana (great personality, very welcoming, and will give you good advice on mostly everything) and Aya (after human treatment and massage by her, feels like you been born again).
Swimming pool: located on 3rd floor (which is very convenient), clean, big enough, great alternative if you don’t have time to go to the beach.
Beach: Buzz beach, clean, walking distance (8-10 min) from the hotel, free of charge (just show your room key to the personnel).
Area: quite safe area, with a few markets, currency exchange, taxi stands, souvenir shops nearby. Short distance from airport, not far from Old City.
