1. Best Western Kemaris 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Biarritz
Blending vibrant surroundings, a host of facilities and an inviting ambience, the Best Western Kemaris hotel features typical architecture of the Basque Country.
Bright and spacious, the guest rooms of the Kemaris boast a sophisticated decor and a host of modern comforts, with a flat-screen television and free Wi-Fi access. Each room offers a beautiful decor blending design and natural touches, and some of them also come with large terrace.
A buffet breakfast consisting of regional products is prepared every morning at this hotel, and you can enjoy a drink from the bar.
he hotel BEST WESTERN Kemaris Biarritz ***, located 200 meters from the beach of La Cote des Basques, allows you to visit the city walking. The hotel welcomes you in a warm and calm ambiance. You will appreciate the charm of this totally renovated structure. Enjoy all the comfort of our 48 rooms perfectly equipped (flat screen television, CNN channel and free wifi), divided into two buildings. Each room offers a decoration that combines design and natural wood, and some of them are fitted with a wide terrace.
The hotel is NOT in the centre of town but a suburban area. But that does make it quiet.
You can walk one way about 10 mins to the nearest beach— it is about 200 steps down (an up again) Good for surfing. And sunsets. For restaurants and shops it’s about a 15 minute walk to the centre.
The hotel is in 2 parts- on either side of a road. We were in the more modern part. The rooms were big, with comfortable beds and plenty of storage. Nice modern well equipped bathrooms too. We had a large balcony.
The room was nice and the bathroom had a great shower and was very modern. We stayed in the modern building which had a nice ambiance about it. Wifi was free and very good. It was a 5 minute walk to the small beach and about a 10 minute walk to the nearest restaurants and cafes, all of which were very good. Highly recommend Bar Jean ……. There is a free shuttle bus which takes you all around Biarritz so walking back from the centre was optional.
Rooms were bright and airy and I would definitely recommend the comfort or privilege rooms with the balcony/terrace. The rooms on the top floor have a view of the sea over the red rooftops of Biarritz.
Rooms are air conditioned and also have a motorised shutter blind to keep out light, excessive heat. Beds were big and comfortable.
The shower was really spacious and had a Rain style shower head that made it very pleasant. There are power outlets either side of the bed (as opposed to some hotels that have them only on the opposite side of the room) and two of the sockets stay powered permanently for charging phones/laptops. Room had a safe that was large enough to keep my Macbook in. Bathroom layout was a little quirky, with the toilet separate from the sink and shower.
The hotel is very Quiet and there is almost no street noise – this is a big plus!
My room also had a Caffitaly Espresso maker in it, which produced very nice coffee. There is also a minibar should you get stuck for a drink later in the evening. The bottled water in the mini-bar is free and most welcome.
There is free WiFi throughout the Hotel – connection was very stable and connecting was easy (no silly registration pages). I was able to stream Netflix in the evenings with no problems.
Staff at the Reception were welcoming, friendly and were knowledgeable about the local area. Although there is no restaurant in the hotel, they were able to recommend a number of local eateries that met our needs.
I’m not a big fan of breakfast as a concept, so I didn’t opt for it, but the menu certainly looked comprehensive and the dining room seems pleasant. The hotel is only a short walk from the beach Cote de Basque and a 5 minute walk to the main area’s of the town.

2. Hotel Edouard VII 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Biarritz
Just 5 minutes
from the Biarritz beaches, sits Hotel Edouard VII, a 19th-century residence that combines the charm of yesterday and the comfort of today. This unique residence has a rich history based on its past residents. It was once the home of the Mayor of Biarritz. It was also the place Napoleon III used to receive medical care on his visits to the region.
Guestrooms are spacious and feature a refined and elegant décor. All are air-conditioned, soundproofed and equipped with private bathrooms, a flat-screen TV and free WiFi internet access.
The area surrounding Hotel Edouard VII has much to offer. In addition to the
coast and its beaches, you will find , shops, museums and casinos. San Sebastian is only a 45-minute drive away.Relaxed, peaceful hotel in leafy neighbourhood within easy walking distance of all amenities but away from the tourist area. High ceilings, comfortable airy rooms with everything you need. Lovely breakfast, conservatory and lounge area with view of garden.
This is a lovely hotel full of character in a quiet, convenient location. The room was bright and airy with high ceilings and period furnishings. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the beaches, shops and restaurants.
Biarritz is an expensive town – we couldn’t find a lot of choices below EUR 200 per night, but luckily we came across Edouard VII. Location cannot be more perfect. Short walk to town centre, beaches and tons of restaurants. It’s a charming house with local history but updated with modern decor. Room is renovated and cool (powerful air-con), bed is very soft and comfortable, fast wifi, front desk staff couldn’t be more friendly. Didn’t try the breakfast so can’t comment but seems to be reasonably-priced.
However we didn’t like the bathroom design at all. Door is heavy, creaky and the sink non-existent and not practical to use.
Overall it’s a nice and comfortable hotel, I’d recommend for a short stay.
Classy upscale hotel with magnificent rooms & balconies. Nicely close to town centre (walking distance). Breakfast on the terrace was excellent & nice boutique feel to place. Les Halles is nearby & fantastic market – great dancing at Sunday fair in June.
Hotel is very elegantly furnished throughout . Our room was spacious and very well furnished with good size comfortable bed and pillows . Bathroom was good size and had good shower. The room was totally free from traffic or other noise . Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is served in dining room or on terrace and a good variety of breakfast food was available . Hotel is spotlessly clean throughout. Lack of lift might be problematic for some and we would have appreciated coffee in our room rather than herbal tea.
However we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back if we return to Biarritz . Location is fantastic right beside Les Halles which has really good daily market and only five minutes walk to beach or town centre.
LOVED LOVED LOVED this hotel… if you want to a really uniquely french experience then this is the place to go. It’s an old converted villa and is very small and charming and beautifully decorated. I especially loved the french doors and small balcony in our bedroom overlooking the quaint tree-lined street outside. Really enjoyed eating breakfast outside on the terrace even though the selection of food on offer wasn’t the greatest I’ve ever seen…. just the typical continental selection..I loved the beautiful china on the tables though.
The location is also fantastic as the town centre is just a 5 minute walk away and the beach about a 10 minute walk. There are great restaurants within a 5 minute radius of the hotel too. I would really recommend this hotel for friends/couples (not too elderly though as there’s a steep hill to walk up to the hotel from the town) as I don’t think you could really classify it as a family type hotel.
Location very good, short walk to centre and sea, even shorter to market place. The staff were very friendly and particularly helpful with information and directions on places to go and how to get there. We were particularly impressed by the receptionist from Brazil, whose name we did not get. The end of season price of our accommodation was quite reasonable. However at €12, breakfast is expensive, and we ate out each day. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and large.
They were very stingy with supplies of teabags, one tea bag per day but they did increase supplies when requested. The toilet paper was of an appalling standard. Only on rare occasions did WIFI work in our top (2nd) floor room but it was very good in the ground floor. There is no lift and the only public rooms are the sitting room and breakfast room.
No bar and no meals other than the expensive breakfast. There is a safe in each room and a mini bar. The air conditioning also worked very well.
Overall this small hotel has a certain charm and the location is excellent. We very much enjoyed our visit and we would definitely return if in Biarritz again.

This is an excellent hotel, recently refurbished to top notch standards. It is in an elevated position at one end of the bay near the lighthouse and with fantastic sea views. Rooms are situated around the stunning atrium, which gives the hotel its dramatic blend of modern and historic style. Smallish but adequate open air heated pool, which in September was blissfully quiet. Helpful and charming staff.
he hotel has a beautiful Art Deco atrium that has a great bar that you can eat a great meal in, sometimes with a Jazz band accompanying the meal.
The suit was spacious and comfortable, with a huge walk in shower with multiple spray heads in the bathroom.
The location on the bluff near the lighthouse is great, and with a free shuttle downtown or you can walk about 15 minutes. That makes it quiet and still very accessible to the shops and beach.
Staff was very helpful and they quickly learned our drink and meal preferences, even with our limited French there was never a problem.
This was a joy to stay at and we recommend it without any reservation.
This is a very elegant, comfortable, luxury hotel that offers a relaxing and stylish atmosphere housed in an historic building 2km away from the heart of Biarritz and a 5-minute walk from the lighthouse of Biarritz. The hotel is surrounded by a quiet residential zone half-way between the beaches and the city centre, overlooks the bay of Biarritz, with sea views to one side and the Biarritz golf course to the other. The restaurant and pool offer fabulous sea views. The hotel offers free WiFi and parking.
This hotel provides a high standard of comfort and services featuring Belle Epoque decor. The galleried atrium at the heart of the hotel that features an Eiffel-styled glass roof is simply stunning. It is built in an Art Deco style that combines red, black and gold decor in a harmonious manner.
The rooms achieve the right balance of individual design and modern functionality. Our room overlooked the golf course and followed the hotel’s Art Deco theme with rich fabrics, patterned carpets, and heavy drapes. It was fully soundproofed and very clean. It had a tiny balcony, free WiFi, a Nespresso maker and a kettle, a safe and free bottled water.
The bed was large and extremely comfortable with a wide choice of pillows. The bathroom spacious and very bright with double sinks and black tiles in the walk-in showers. We dined at the restaurant only once; the food was really good but rather pricey. A minor point is that the menu was rather restricted for our taste.
Staff at the front and concierge desk were very professional, courteous, helpful, friendly and very pleasant. Especially Julien at the concierge desk was extremely helpful and charming, took plenty of time to explain to us about the region and its products and gave us a lot of good tips. Room service was very discreet and efficient (our bed was always remade and water replaced, but we were never disturbed).
Highly recommended we will certainly come back again.
