Bled, a Slovenian resort town in the foothills of the Julian Alps, is set along the glacial Lake Bled. On a cliff overlooking the lake is the 11th-century Bled Castle, which houses a museum, chapel and printing press. Atop a small island in the lake’s center is the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria, with its steep staircase and bell tower.
Top attractions to visit in Bled
This is a charming little castle built on a precipice above the town of Bled, overlooking Lake Bled. … You have to pay an entrance fee to get into the grounds of the castle, but it is well worth it. The museum in the castle is really interesting and there is a blacksmiths forge, old printing room and a small chapel.

This was Tito’s former summer palace and it is incredibly beautiful, both inside and outside. The long covered patio, flower gardens and lawns have incredible vistas of Lake Bled and Bled Island.
Once the President of Yugoslavia’s summer residence it still has fascinating ambience and culture of a palace/government building with fascinating paintings and murals from the communist era.
At the same time it has the best view from any terrace along Lake Bled and the almost comforts of a upmarket hotel.
We were pleased with the Vila Bled as the grounds were lovely and the location away from central Bled was peaceful. Even in May Bled was very busy but the location of the hotel, near the church, but away from the busy town was ideal. We used the row boats they supply guests to circle around the island and walked miles along the path that runs in front of the hotel. The staff were helpful and we enjoyed the one dinner we had during our stay. The room was nice and we had a great view from the balcony.
The hotel is in lovely grounds with a great view of the famous church in the middle of Lake Bled. The grounds are nice and the other plus points are the free hire of a boat to row on the lake, the private beach area and the spectacular cafe with the best views of the lake.
Situated along the lake, there are magnificent views and the pathway along the lake is just behind the hotel. Rooms are large enough, but simply decorated in a style that is reminiscent of the Communist era. Our room had wooden floors. There wasn’t any air conditioning, but our lake view room cooled off nicely at night with the balcony door open and overhead fan. The elevator is small and probably dates back to the Tito era. The property was very quiet at night. There is a tiny gym with two cardio devices. The included breakfast was very good.
I loved the feeling of staying in a well-preserved time capsule. Our suite had a huge central room, a large bedroom, and a huge bathroom — complete with double sinks and a large glass cube/shower in the center. Others complain about outdated finishes and decor, but our suite appeared fresh and updated. Be sure to check out the murals depicting Yugoslavia’s Communist revolution found in a meeting room on Floor 1. Warning: there is no air conditioning in the hotel. Didn’t matter to us because it was very cool at night and we were comfortable with the windows open (no bugs around). There’s a private dock with lounge chairs at the lake for hotel guests only. If you stay here, you must walk up the short trail to Belvedere, the lookout spot/coffee shop/bar used by Tito to entertain guests — this is where you’ll get the best view of the lake and island.

The inn is about a 5 minute walk to the lake and has lots of free parking which is a huge plus. Our room was extremely clean and the bathroom was beautiful, very modern but still with the theme.
Old Bled House is just 5 minutes walk from the lakeshore and in a little spot quietly removed from the hotels that line the lake. It is full of charm with a ground floor breakfast area heated with both modern appliance as well as the old wood burning ceramic heater in the corner. The breakfasts for 8€ are mind bogglingly good, plentiful and varied, we had gorgeous stewed fruits, yoghurt, cereal, cheeses etc etc. so good! No lift, but that’s not an issue.
Our room was small but adequate with a fridge, tea and coffee, bottle opener… all of the essentials. The bathroom was small but again perfectly fine for the time we were there. Very friendly staff and if you want a great cheap eats pizza… the pizzeria in the shopping area at the end of the top level is fabulous value (Pizzeria Galus) . If you’re looking for somewhere a bit different to the regular rather generic hotel room, this could tick many boxes.

The most amazing was the service that set the hotel apart.
