Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Brisbane Australia (2024 Updated)

Perhaps it’s the region’s San Francisco–like weather and progressive vibe, or its diverse yet well-integrated population (you won’t find a concentrated “gayborhood” like Sydney’s Darlinghurst and Oxford Street here); Melbourne and Brisbane in  Australia are about as LGBTfriendly as they come. With many gay friendly hotels Brisbane to choose from it’s a great summer or winter destination

Australia is one of the most LGBT-friendly countries in the world. In a 2013 Pew Research poll, 79% of Australians agreed that homosexuality should be accepted by society, making it the fifth most supportive country in the survey behind Spain (88%), Germany (87%), Canada and the Czech Republic (both 80%).

Brisbane, capital of Queensland, is a large city on the Brisbane River. Clustered in its Southbank cultural precinct are the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre, with noted interactive exhibitions. Another South Bank cultural institution is Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, among Australia’s major contemporary art museums. Looming over the city is Mt. Coot-tha, site of Brisbane Botanic Gardens.

You may be fooled into thinking that Brisbane isn’t worth visiting when you’re touring Australia. A modern city without the rich history of Melbourne or Sydney, with less culture to offer on the surface. However, Australia’s third largest city packs a massive punch when it comes to places to visit and things to see.

Great location to take in all the great cafes and restaurants at Portside. The hotel is modern and very clean with a lovely fragrance in the room. Apartment style accommodation with modern comfortable furniture. The staff are all fantastic. Parking was easy and convenient. Will definitely go back.

This hotel is a located in a very good place in Brisbane. It is right next to some very nice restaurants and even walking distance from Race Course Road which has a whole bunch of very good restaurants. Additionally, it is far enough away from downtown Brisbane, so it isn’t too crowded, but if you want to go into downtown, the RiverCat is right by the hotel and it is a very pleasant 15-20 min ride to get to downtown.

The location at Alcyone Hotel Residences really does allow our guests to have the best of both worlds, with so many restaurants, river walks, and close to the airport or CBD.

This hotel was fantastic, the staff recommended us to use the ferry public transport which takes you down the river and you can get off at any spot! We took the ferry down to the city centre for some lunch and I would highly recommend this!

The hotel itself is beautiful with an amazing pool! Rooms are very spacious and with great decor

The rooms are modern and have comfy and tasteful decor and furniture. Our views never disappoint and we always feel so spoilt. The staff always go the extra mile to ensure our stay is everything that we have expected and are friendly and hospitable. We love our food and are always delighted with the huge choice of cafes and restaurants to visit. There is nothing more perfect than grabbing a glass of wine by the rivers edge at one of the numerous bars!
The cruise ships that dock simply tantalize us even more!
Eat Street is our absolute “go to” and we love that it is just a leisurely stroll there and back from the hotel. We adore going out for breakfast together and are spoilt by the many choices of delicious options.
We love how the apartments are self contained with cooking and cleaning amenities. With a small food store adjacent, we have everything at our fingertips. With the movies just a few meters away and gorgeous boutiques sprinkled around, this is our kind of getaway!! We love that every few months we can come together and spoil ourselves for a weekend of fun, food and that little bit of sophistication and style…it’s all about creating memories.

Amelia Hotel puts the best of Brisbane at your fingertips, making your stay both relaxing and enjoyable.

The room was quirky which is what had originally attracted me to book to stay. The bathroom was clean, with a lovely shower, and the air con in the room was very good. Great location, really close to Fortitude Valley station and also walking distance from loads of bars and restaurants.

The room was beautifully decorated and clean. The bed was comfortable and a quiet street no noise. The coffee we bought the next morning from downstairs in the hotel was delicious.

Toilet and shower were neat, except the shower temperature was a bit hard to control. Kitchen was clean. Breakfast was basic and I liked the fresh fruits every morning. The only downside was there was no elevator in the building, so carrying a big luggage up to 2 to 3 levels on narrow stairs an be tough, but fortunately we got big helps by all friendly staffs incl. the kind receptionist herself. We were really grateful for that.

Location is good. Short walking distance to bus stops to the CBD (180 to 360 meters), and close to Fortitude Valley train station. Free bottle of water every morning.

The room we stayed in at the Amelia Hotel was very small, there’s no denying that, but the use of space was brilliant and the bathroom upgrade one of the best I’ve come across. The ceiling was painted with the night sky and had separate lighting which made it a highlight. I quite enjoyed sleeping under the stars :). The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The location is amazing if you’re using the train system to get around. We arrived at the airport, straight onto the train, off at Fortitude Valley Station and 3 minute walk to the hotel.

The bed is always comfortable, establishment is always outstanding clean. I highly recommend a stay at this unique Hotel every room is different. Our room had 4 power points in the room itself with a extra 5 USB charging points, huge tv, mini bar with fridge, tea/coffee faculties, private bathroom and a desk the attention to detail is incredible. photo of the room and light above the bed with a usb port?

The property is located in Brisbane CBD. Main tourist attractions (Queen Street Mall, South Bank) are within walking distance, which is big plus. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room I stayed was High Altitude suite on 69th floor, with view of South Bank and Brisbane River. It was spacious and has kitchen, washing machine and dryer.

The Suite was AMAZING. The staff had placed a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and left a lovely handwritten card wishing us good wishes for our anniversary. The suite was very spacious, with a separate bedroom, laundry, bathroom and powder room area, together with a complete kitchen with microwave and dishwasher. I have previously worked in a hotel so I am fussy with cleanliness but the suite was SPOTLESS. The location was perfect with easy walks to Southbank, the Queen Street Mall, restaurants and Roma Street Railway Station.

Meriton Suites on Herschel Street great location as it is just a short walk from Queen Street Mall and across the bridge from the 7News Ferris Wheel, Streets Beach, and other attractions.

If you’re coming from the airport, you’ll want to take the Air train from Brisbane Airport (about a 20 minute ride) and get off at the Roma Street exit. From there it’s a very short (less than 10 minute) walk from the train platform to the hotel lobby. Even with luggage is a quick and simple walk.

Infinity Tower as its called is also the tallest building in Brisbane, giving sweeping views of the city. The extra few dollars for the top floor is well worth it. There’s nothing like a suite on Floor 70.

The rooms themselves are fantastic, offering spacious living room and kitchenette space as well as spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. The staff is very friendly and the stewards do a great job at cleaning the rooms.

The Herschel apartments are great, close to city and wonderful views at reasonable prices .
Modern contemporary rooms , very clean and quiet considering the location.

Limited floor access was by use of a card, so security was good. It did initially throw me having not encountered this before. Walked into a spacious, bright one bedroom apartment with an excellent kitchenette comprising oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, cooking utensils, cutlery, tableware and glassware. Laundry area off kitchen with washer and separate tumble dryer. Comfortable bed in separate bedroom, and separate smart bathroom. Apartment had express daily service. Great hotel and staff. Great location.

The staff at reception were awesome and so helpful. The apartment was clean and fresh, the bed was very comfortable and the river view was gorgeous, especially at night. Loved having a coffee machine on hand. The gym, sauna, pool and outdoor terraced gardens were lovely and a great hit with my son. The close proximity to the CBD and public transport was just so convenient. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and recommend it without hesitation.
