Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Byron Bay Australia

Perhaps it’s the region’s San Francisco–like weather and progressive vibe, or its diverse yet well-integrated population (you won’t find a concentrated “gayborhood” like Sydney’s Darlinghurst and Oxford Street here); Melbourne and Byron Bay in  Australia are about as LGBTfriendly as they come. With many gay friendly hotels Byron Bay to choose from it’s a great summer or winter destination

Australia is one of the most LGBT-friendly countries in the world. In a 2013 Pew Research poll, 79% of Australians agreed that homosexuality should be accepted by society, making it the fifth most supportive country in the survey behind Spain (88%), Germany (87%), Canada and the Czech Republic (both 80%).

Byron Bay is a coastal town in the southeastern Australian state of New South Wales. It’s a popular holiday destination, known for its beaches, surfing and scuba diving sites. Cape Byron State Conservation Park is on a headland with a lighthouse. Between June and November, humpback whales can be spotted from headland viewpoints such as the Captain Cook Lookout.

Byron Bay accommodation offers fully self-contained, relaxed, gay friendly apartments and treetop houses in a tranquil setting bordering the Arakwal National Park in beautiful Byron Bay. Magnificent Tallow Beach is just a 400 metre walk through the National Park while the bustling heart of Byron Bay, where you will find cafes, restaurants and boutique shops, is only a 5 minute drive away.

Our wide range of accommodation choices includes Self Contained Holiday Apartments, Treetop Houses, Ibis Beach House and VUE Beach Houses. Set in lush tropical gardens you will enjoy the comfort and uniqueness of The Oasis and our resort style facilities which include; a heated pool, spa, sauna, floodlit tennis court, poolside BBQs, well equipped gym, games room and children’s facilities.Enjoy the best of both worlds at The Oasis Byron Bay!

To start with the gardens, pool, spa and outdoor sitting areas are excellent. The gym was also not too bad. We stayed in the Kingfisher treetop house which had a lot of stairs to get up to the door, was hard work with suitcases. The house is located well off the ground and you can feel it move and sway when people are walking around. The house itself was pretty cool being split over three levels. My only suggestion with the house is it needs a bit of a face lift, looking a bit tired. Some of the cutlery and cooking utensils need upgrading as they looked like my grandmas when I was a young fella. The views are simply awesome from the balcony.

Located approximately 400 metres from the beach you overlook a pretty natural reserve but still can see the surf breaking. The walk to Tallow Beach is nice and we were lucky enough to see some wallabies. The accommodation is located about 5 minutes by car away from downtown Byron Bay which was good because it was quiet.

The Oasis is really well located. Just out of town and down a side street, so no through traffic noise, just the sound of the waves crashing on Tallows Beach. It’s walking distance to town (only about 2.5km to the surf club) if you’re the energetic type. More than doable even for the kids, take their scooters or bikes. Otherwise take the car or catch the bus.

Close by for coffee and breakfast are the Byron Bay General Store or The Roadhouse. Oasis’s position (close to the hub of Byron township’s fantastic shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, yet not so close that it impacts the tranquility many look for in a getaway escape) also puts us in a great place for exploring more of the Bay region including the hinterland and places such as Gaia, Crystal Gardens, Bangalow, Newrybar, Lennox Head and Brunswick Heads.

Our bed was super comfortable and it was great to have a huge space to ourselves downstairs, with large en-suite and walk-in robe. It has a view of the ocean and the beach is just an eight minute walk through the bush, where we saw a wallaby having breakfast and a beautiful rainbow bee-eater dive into his nest in the ground.
It has a full, well-appointed kitchen, and the TVs in the two living areas have surround sound. There is a pool with spa, tennis court, and games room.

What a great find! Loved every minute of staying at the Oasis. I was looking for something tranquil and high quality and found it here. The grounds and facilities are impeccable and its just a short walk to the beach where you can stroll for miles. The General Store and Roadhouse cafes are within walking distance and have great food and excellent coffee which is important for a Melburnian! It’s close to everything and we also visited amazing Gaia Spa Retreat which is a short drive away and was divine.

The Oasis Resort in a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment. It is such a lovely peaceful place and only a about a 5 minute walk to Tallow beach which is gorgeous and very quiet. The apartment was immaculate and extremely well equipped. We overlooked the pool from our balcony and enjoyed the morning sun there.Eloise was incredibly helpful and kind.Everyone in Reception was brilliant and able to give us useful information.

We didn’t have any transport and the resort was a little further out than we thought but you can walk into town in 25 minutes and get a cab back if necessary for 10 dollars.Even better you can walk along Tallow beach into town, which takes longer but is delightful. In the evening we were able to do a barbecue on the balcony after relaxing in the bubbles of the hot spa.WiFi was not always very strong but we could not recommend this place more highly. If we come back to Byron Bay I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

The location is pretty good – about a ten minute easy walk into the centre of town. However it is on a very busy road and we could hear road noise quite a lot. The pool area is fantastic, pool was nice and warm and well-maintained. The complex is very secure with gated access and secure parking facilities.

A great little place about 5-10 minutes walk from the centre of town. Everything was clean and tidy. The kitchen had everything we needed (dishwasher, blender, coffee machine, etc) and the room included some nice bonus items like playing cards, books, an iron and access to a pretty extensive DVD collection

The bedroom was light and spacious with a large wardrobe, with of plenty of coat hangers. The living space was roomy with a nice lounge to stretch out on and big footrest. The kitchen was great and well stocked. Dining table to seat 4. Shower was Excellent! Great water pressure and nice and big. Bathroom also had a good sized washing* machine and dryer. Extra luxuries to make life easy included a washing basket and massive drying rack that held a whole load of washing. Pool towels and all other linen included. Car park was easy to manoeuvre in and out of.

The apartments were very spacious and well stocked. The pool area and gardens were lovely and the whole complex had a really relaxing vibe. The location was great, about a 5-10 minute walk to the city centre and there was also back access to a secluded beach.

The apartment is well appointed. The main room has plenty of space with sofa and dining table and integral kitchenKitchen includes 2 plate electric hob, microwave and dishwasher with plenty of kitchenware and crockery. The bathroom is small but adequate with washing machine and dryer. The bedroom has a double bed and plenty of storage space. There is a pleasant balcony. There is a tv with Fox in the lounge and a second Freeview tv in the bedroom.

The basement car park was never busy. There is a nice pool with BBQ area. The Villa had all the facilities we required and a nice outdoor eating area as well as the kitchen/lounge dining room inside. All the outdoor areas were well cared for and the pool/BBQ area was inviting for an after beach swim and evening meal.

The kitchen was very well equipped with microwave/convection oven, dishwasher, large frig & an excellent assortment of utensils. The decor was easy on the eye & I loved the large print that was in the living area.We had a pleasant outdoor area close to the heated pool.We appreciated the washing machine & dryer located in the bathroom. Excellent WIFI.

Close to the beautiful beach & reasonably close to restaurants & shopping areas.
