Kochi (also known as Cochin) is a city in southwest India’s coastal Kerala state. It has been a port since 1341, when a flood carved out its harbor and opened it to Arab, Chinese and European merchants. Sites reflecting those influences include Fort Kochi, a settlement with tiled colonial bungalows and diverse houses of worship. Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets, typical of Kochi, have been in use for centuries.

Fort Cochin is a small town in the southern part of India. For centuries, it remained the focal point to many a European traveler, who eventually made it home. And in years to follow, it gradually acquired an eclectic mix of varied cultures that blend to form a unique existence for itself. Today, much of the place continues to exude this charm. Its tiny allies, European styled villas, quaint cafes and extensive grounds, all of which merge to create a beautiful location.
The small guesthouse is in a beautifully renovated colonial building with large, tasteful and clean rooms, in a great location. The best thing, though, was Edgar and his staff. These guys really know the meaning of friendliness and hospitality. They gave all the local information needed and helped us plan our onward journey to Kumily and the backwaters in detail, making calls, negotiating rates, bookings and even arranged transportation for us later on in the trip from Kumily to Alleppy! Edgar also booked our home stay with the Thomas family at Kaits Home in Champakulam in the backwaters. Ask him for details about that – it was incredible!
The Raintree Lodge is your kind of place if you prefer a small, characterful and aesthetic place that takes a genuine interest in making your holiday experience special and memorable. They exceeded all our expectations – and they are very gay-friendly too.
The homestay makes for the ideal place to start your adventures in Kochi as there are many great restaurants, sites and retail outlets in walking distance.
The Lodge is so idyllic, that many Indian couples will have their photo taken out the front of its stunning facade.

What a little gem. We loved our room with a balcony where we could oversee the street scenes below, though very quiet as well. WiFi was consistently excellent and plentiful hot water was a strong point. The laundry service was also above average. The staff were very helpful and smiled a lot too which certainly makes a difference. Highly recommended.
This is a very nice little hotel with 5 rooms in Fort Cochin near the sites and activities at the old port. The two best rooms are on the second floor facing the street and both have balconies. Rooms have fans and AC. Breakfast is served at the Kashi Café a couple of blocks away and it is a set menu so no buffet. Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful.
Raintree Lodge is a perfect place to stay in Kochi. With many shops, restaurants, and sights in walking distance, the location is ideal. The room was clean and spacious, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again if I go back to Kochi!

Grand Hyatt Bolgatty is a beautiful luxury waterfront hotel amidst 26 acres of plush green garden land on Bolgatty Island, Kochi , with rooms overlooking the backwaters of the VembuNadu lake .
The room has all modern amenities of automated closing of curtains, blinds, control light shades, ambience temperature, music speakers in washroom (it is must for me to listen to music while bathing), mini dining table perfectly suited for kids watching large (55′) flat screen TVs in both bedroom & Hall. Most comfortable large size bed suitable for tall people, washroom with nice walking closet, having large size bath tub suitable for kids to have fun & listen to music, twin wash basins, two separate washrooms, etc. The water in any of the taps, were all temperature controlled.
You would get hot water at all times in all taps, rain showers, hand showers which was great. Many hotel shower taps run out of hot waters beyond 20 mins or so,but here we could get for however long we kept taps on..That is only available in true 5 star hotels which are hardly in India!
The in room dining food was absolutely superb, they make best ever food one can get. Being vegetarian we had tried few simple dishes of Parathas, dal tadka with jeera rice, curries, etc. All dishes were absolutely delicious, mind-boggling!! What a wonderful view outside the room to see while having food, fantastic experience.
The hotel has amazing heated indoor swimming pool for privacy apart from large other two open pools.
The Malabar Cafe is quite busy in morning hours, the choices of breakfast was not elaborate though. The downside is they clear all food at sharp 10:30Am, so if we reach cafe by 10:15am then we won’t get to try many dishes, but we will be surely billed, which was not right.
The Grand Hyatt is located on the Bolgatty islands and is about a 40 mins drive from the Kochi international airport.
It is a huge and luxurious property with a beautiful view of the backwaters, two swimming pools – 1 indoor and 1 outdoor, gaming zone, kids play area, spa, club rooms, lounge and many good restaurants and bars. We had booked through points and were upgraded to the corner room. These rooms have a huge balcony with beautiful and comfortable sitting arrangements. The room was huge and so was the bathroom. Very modern with all the amenities available.
There are quite a few restaurants in this resort – so you don’t really have to step out for food. On Saturdays, they had a Thai Drunch which was pretty amazing. Pool side dinner and drinks with a wide spread menu from Thailand and other Asian cuisines. Staff was helpful and polite. Definitely recommended.

Once part of the palatial home of an eminent Jew family, Forte Kochi and the interiors of each of the 27 luxuriously styled heritage rooms has been recreated to present the glorious colonial period of Kerala.
Lovely, recently renovated colonial style hotel on Princess Street which itself is an interesting place to visit. Very close to the Chinese nets and other sights. Not cheap but good hotels in Forte Kochi are similarly priced.
Forte Kochi that is owned by the Paul group of hotels on the Princess street which is a royal boutique hotel that transported me to the yesteryear with its regal heritage and ethnic vibe, yellow exteriors which is truly enchanting.
We were given the Imperial room for our stay and the rooms were so spacious, the bathrooms were clean and stunning with a bathtub.
The rooms had complimentary snacks and fruits which we munched while sitting in the drawing room outside the rooms enjoying the ambient nature of this hotel that had so much color and trees everywhere.
The stay here was super impressive as the rooms are a total word for absolute luxury. It was extremely difficult to check out from this hotel.
All in all our stay at our first hotel was bang on as the rooms, facilities, amenities, food all was on point and a winner on my checklist. Not only did I enjoy being relaxed an lazy having a spot on family time but my son loved every bit of this place which was the original purpose of our holiday. So for all the hotel/resort fanatics who like exploring the culture and innovative/regal bit this hotel is hands down a winner and will surely love to visit again soon.
The city of Kochi is a mesmerizing mosaic of different cultures that have left their imprints across time. Fort Kochi is the place where the heritage of Kochi comes alive. The Forte Kochi is located right in the heart of Fort Kochi on Princess Street. An excellent boutique 5- star hotel which is actually a heritage Jewish Mansion.
We enjoyed our stay in this colourful and vibrant hotel, where the elegance of a time long gone by, is blended effortlessly with contemporary luxury. The place is a virtual art museum and has within its premises a 200 year old holy Jewish spring. The hotel is ideally located with most of the landmarks of Fort Kochi within easy reach.
Forte Kochi is situated on Princess Street, a lively colourful street full of beautiful quality stores, whose shopkeepers are friendly. The streets surrounding the hotel are equally as lovely, with art galleries and a ferry port within a 5 minute walking distance. Near the port, there is also a lovely market which leads up to the Chinese Fishing nets.
The hotel itself, is a beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle. It reminded all of us of the famous “Hotel Marigold” as it has an open pavilion and a lovely pool. The pool is very nice however not the biggest and there is no jacuzzi. The rooms are massive and lovely, and nicely decorated. The food is delicious, however the dining area is slightly smaller than anticipated, so I would recommend eating out, Fusion is amazing and a 5 min walk.
