Located in Guayaquil city centre on the west bank of the River Guayas, this hostel offers free Wi-Fi access throughout the property and a restaurant, serving freshly-prepared local and international dishes. Guests can relax on the balcony, offered with some rooms, and take in the view of the city. Private bathrooms are offered in some rooms of Manso Boutique Hostal while others have access to shared facilities. Simon Bolivar Airport is just 5 km away.
The hostel is located in a prime area so food and sights are within reach. A university is located just next to the hostel.
The room with a private bath that we had was simple, basic but comfortable with good A/C and plenty of space. The restaurant had nice food. There were fun little space to sit and read, like little balconies, and an artisanal chocolate shop by registration.
There are also ice cream stands, candy stands, bars and restaurants on the Malacom which I enjoyed several times. Having a hotel at the rates of Manso is somewhat amazing. Many of the hotels in the area have rates of $150 and up a night.
The bed in each room I had was great and the room comfortably large. Also the air conditioning in each room was a blessing.
It is fine to sit in the part of the dining area that looks out at the Malacon and the river whether you order food or not. My internet connection was best in the reception area so I did spend a good amount of time there enjoying the view and the breeze.
The staff were very helpful, particularly Patricia who was finishing her degree in sustainable tourism and an intern at Manso and who is now in the Galapagos for a year and Ricardo the manager. I had many talks with Ricardo about his passion for sustainable development and his work developing tours with indigenous communities.
The breakfast had a piece of fruit, a glass of freshly prepared juice without sugar (yeah), eggs, toast, jam and butter on request. Generally there was a nice surprise of something made with plantain or yucca.
I also had a number of meals there – lunch and dinner. Zentrum is the name of the restaurant. It is managed cooperatively but separately from El Manso. On the days the main chef is there the food is fabulous and people come from all over the city to enjoy it. I happened to be there when the head Chef had a break. At that point the food was much more ordinary. But when THE Chef is there the food was fabulous.
The meals are agro-ecological so you get many different kinds of vegetables and grains plus fish and chicken options. On valentine’s day I had a delicious all vegetable soup, a risotta of quinoa (so flavorful and rich) with vegetables and a dessert with the best ice cream I may have ever had – blackberry ice cream with chocolate fudge cake and a sliced banana with carmel sauce. Extraordinary.
So book now and support this hotel and restaurant which are trying to support ecotourism in a very pricey area of town AND keeping the rates low. There is playful art surrounding you, people from all over the world, and comfortable rooms.

Great place to stay. Friendly staff, when you are being called by your last name you feel very welcome there!
Location is perfect, only 5 minutes drive from the airport. Very close to Mall del Sol, for a movie, or go to a nice sushi restaurant there. Breakfast buffet is highly appreciated.
The lobby of these buildings (just behind the main HJ complex) looks more like a plush office complex with 24/7 security. Very nice. The suites were excellent. Very clean and modern. Giant TV in the bedroom. Separate lounge area and a kitchenette area with microwave and a washer/dryer combo. Now, not everyone will get this upgrade, but our friends who arrived from Peru later in the day, received their king bed room and we checked it out too.
Very clean, nicely appointed room. Good business centre too with free internet. Free wireless internet in the lobby too. Unfortunately, wireless not available at the time of writing in the suite, but the hotel did provide us with a cable for the notebook computer.
Maid service was efficient and very pleasant, even a bed turn-down service in our suite.
The breakfast runs from 6:30AM to 11 AM so that allows for a sleep-in if you want. Good breakfast is served around in the main lobby of the HJ complex. Eggs, bacon, chorizo, toast, coffee, juice, cereal and more. Included in the room price.
And if you want a really nice coffee, go next door to the Coffee & Sweet coffee shop and enjoy their air-conditioned coffee lounge. Also, HJ’s is right next door to the Sheraton and adjoining the Sheraton is a walk-over bridge to the shopping centre, Mall del Sol. A large, modern shopping centre with a huge eating area, restaurants including a Tony Roma’s and most of the chain fast food places. ATM’s etc.
For $3 you can get a taxi into the Malecon and surrounding areas. Well worth the visit.
This Hotel is probable the only one that offer a Sauna, which works great and let you relax and forget about the day.
The gym is not that well set because of weights and machines, have 2 mills, some dumbbells and that’s that.
But also have a jacuzzi that you can request to be turned on 20 minutes before your use
This hotel used to be a Howard Johnson. It was fully renovated a couple of years back (I believe) so it can naturally not be in such a bad state. That said, I have to say the service is much better now than before. Lobby area and reception looked spotless upon arrival. The clerk found our reservation quickly. Check-in was handled rapidly. There was no assistance to take luggage to the room but we were packing light. The room itself was in good condition, although the maid had visibly over sprayed the room with air freshener.
Bathroom was properly stacked. Bed and pillows are of good quality. You will not be disappointed. The only thing I found out the day after was that sound proofing is lacking at best. You could hear the cars passing by and at times the noises from the room next to yours. The hotel has a breakfast area. Breakfast was more than average, featuring both buffet style laid out items and your omelette station. Nothing to complain about. Aside from that it has a small business center, and a fairly good gym area, comparing it to other hotels in town. Small but enough for the average user.
There is a small pool as well. I liked this hotel very much. From the cleanliness of the hotel to the service rendered. Consistent. Highly recommend it.

The Sonesta hotel is for me one of the best hotels in Guayaquil. It is close to the airport and right next to the shopping mall with direct access from the hotel. I was here on a business trip and due to the location it was easy for me to get around in the city.
The hotel staff is excellent and friendly and help you with any question or problem. The restaurant, especially the breakfast or evening buffet offer a great variety of delicious dishes for everyone.
Our room had a very comfortable king-size bed, writing desk, and mini fridge. They had a nice complimentary buffet-style breakfast with good food choices including eggs or omelette cooked to your order. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating and most spoke English.
A very large and modern mall is directly connected to the hotel which was very convenient for shopping and many nice restaurants. we enjoyed a very nice 10-day stay here and would definitely recommend this hotel.
My upgraded room and bathroom were large, very, very comfortable and absolutely clean and counted on all the resources one may expect from a great hotel like this, from a mini bar to a freezing air-conditioner and free speedy wifi. Fantastic shower, immaculately white and fluffy towels and top-quality toiletry items complimented my comfort. The hotel also offers a sauna, fitness center, massage and a small pool with jacuzzi.
The breakfast here is beyond one’s expectation. Served in 3- large table buffet it offered a large, wide, fresh and top-quality assortment of everything, including regional food and an omelette station.
The restaurant was a great, pleasant surprise! The large menu offers light options, soups, sandwiches and regional and international food. Be aware that all portions are large and, therefore, pretty shareable. From my rich experience I suggest the mushroom and pumpkin soups, the crab meat raviolis, oriental noodles and fettuccine with crab cream (upon request).
Among the many rich desserts I recommend, by far, the “mojada de chocolate” a fluffy, humid chocolate cake basted by a fine chocolate cream, which is out of this world! On the weekends one may eat from either the menu or a large buffet, which includes a wide selection of salads, cold and hot options and a delicious selection of desserts, for just USD20 + 12%tax and 10%service.
The lobby bar runs a happy hour, on a two-for-one basis for selected items, from Monday thru Saturday.
In spite all the comfort, cleanliness and great food, I must say that the MOST IMPRESSIVE part of my stay was the great, warm and friendly service I have gotten FROM EVERYONE at this property.
