Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Houston, TX (2024 Updated)

Search and book Lesbian and Gay friendly hotels Houston, TX.

Lesbiangaybisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.

U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in the U.S. state of Florida may face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Same-sex sexual activity became legal in the state after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Lawrence v. Texas on June 26, 2003, and same-sex marriage has been legal in the state since January 6, 2015.
However, some localities in Texas have ordinances that provide a variety of legal protections and benefits to LGBT people. Despite Texas’ reputation as a socially conservative state, a majority of Texans support same-sex marriage and anti-discrimination laws for LGBT people.

My en-suite room was well appointed and comfortable in every way, The in-house restaurant is fairly priced and the cuisine of excellent quality – I had breakfast there each morning and dinner in the evening once. Staff are immensely helpful. The hotel courtesy cars are splendidly convenient for transportation within the genera area – and I particularly like the Texas Longhorn skulls on the grilles.

The hotel is exceptionally well appointed. It has grandeur and the staff are so friendly. I stayed in The Tycoon Suite and was greeted with a fresh bouquet of gorgeous flowers. The room had an incredible view of the Mecom Fountain and Hermann Park. The hotel is a great location for whatever you want to do around Houston.

We went to the Spa and the staff were so professional and the services were wonderful. The pool area is so pretty. We had lunch by the pool and it was great. When we got back into the room and there was a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. The entire experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend staying here.

Very pleasant, helpful lobby staff. Love the free shuttle to locations within a few miles of the hotel. Lively pool. Free coffee on every floor from early in the morning. Will definitely stay during next visit to Houston.

Great hotel with excellent service from check in to housekeeping, comfy bed and very clean rooms, the food is delicious. I felt safe staying at this hotel. There is a free shuttle service around the hotel area only.
The Royal Sonesta is an impressive large, good quality hotel with all the amenities that you would expect from a city hotel. The hotel is well placed for a very large shopping mall and the hotel provides a shuttle service covering a 3 mile radius which covers the hotel.
The hotel restaurant is very good and the staff friendly and efficient but, during our stay, hardly used.
The gym is well equipped and quite busy at certain times of the day and the pool was reasonable size and well kept.
There is also a breakfast snack bar to buy continental breakfast foods which works well.
Apart from the shopping mall there was not a lot to see around the hotel and few restaurants within walking distance. Houston Art Museum is worth a visit.
This hotel is exceptional. Staff was pleasant, informative, and offered suggestions and satisfied our every need.
Restaurant food is exceptional, and breakfast was by far the best at any hotel we have ever stayed. The room is clean, very well organized, and clean smelling. The pool needed a bit of cleaning but could have been heavily used recently. Parking is not free but the valet staff is exceptional.
There is a no-cost shuttle which is very comfortable SUV and the concierge will gladly assist and take care of any needs. We used it several times for eating and shopping. We will definitely stay here in Houston at this hotel from now on. They have a coffee shop, lounge area with a bar, and full service restaurant. We were well pleased.
Royal Sonesta Houston Galleria is in like-new condition, from the lobby, to the gym, to my room. Everything is spotless! The staff is very helpful and friendly. I slept better than I have in quite a while. Nice coffee shop in the lobby. The hotel is in a great area if you want to shop.
The Galleria is definitely high-end. I enjoyed walking around the mall, and there are good restaurants there. The hotel offers a shuttle to the Galleria, and the shuttle drivers are awesome. (I’m not sure what the limits are to the free shuttle service, but it doesn’t go far enough to take me to the Rolling Stones show at NRG Stadium. 😉 I will definitely return to Royal Sonesta.

Exceeded expectations. Great staff and location. The architecture of this property is beautiful. The corner room was great but the A/C lacked to keep the room cool, during the day. Absolutely loved the bathroom with the huge stand-in shower. Close to many restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

. Never having been to Houston, we though a downtown location with restaurants and bars would be good and we were not disappointed. On Friday night there was a ton of activity on main street with lots of bars and restaurants and people out. It was much sleepier on Sunday.

The hotel itself is in an old bank and is beautiful building. The lobby area is stunning with its big safe and dramatic lights. We enjoyed the bartender as we had a drink at the bar to get started and then we went to settle into our rooms, Our room was spacious and had modern decorations.

The smell reminded me of old European hotels and it took me a minute to place it as mildew, it was a pretty strong smell. The beds were firm but comfortable and the shower had amazing water pressure. Our shower did not have anything along the bottom to keep the water from flowing out so showers basically flooded our bathroom but we adjusted and made it work, the pressure and temperature were heaven.

The best part of this hotel was the staff. Everyone was nice, helpful and welcoming. Every single interaction we had was positive and we really enjoyed the staff and our stay overall. If i ever had to stay in downtown Houston again, i would totally stay here.

The location is the best–in the heart of Downtown’s action and right next to the Metro Rail for easy access to the Museum District and Hermann Park. In a city known for modernity, the Icon has a gorgeous historic feel, from the massive colonnades of the airy lobby and restaurant to the period look of the rooms and public areas. The rooms are ample and luxe with delightful little touches, such as huge tiled walk-in showers, total blackout curtains (9 am will feel like 9 pm!), and powerful A/C–a huge plus in hot, humid Houston.

If only this hotel had a pool for the 90% of the year when it’s warm enough to swim! The sumptuous breakfast buffet in the Line & Lariat restaurant is well worth its $19 price tag (which includes all the fresh juice and coffee you want). For price, comfort, and service in Downtown Houston, you really can’t do better than the Hotel Icon.
