Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.
U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

This is a superb hotel as regards comfort, restaurant, facilities and location. It’s ideal for anybody doing business in Rice University, or the Medical Center, and it is directly adjacent to the wonderful Museum of Fine Arts – which merits a whole day visit.
My en-suite room was well appointed and comfortable in every way, The in-house restaurant is fairly priced and the cuisine of excellent quality – I had breakfast there each morning and dinner in the evening once. Staff are immensely helpful. The hotel courtesy cars are splendidly convenient for transportation within the genera area – and I particularly like the Texas Longhorn skulls on the grilles.
The hotel is exceptionally well appointed. It has grandeur and the staff are so friendly. I stayed in The Tycoon Suite and was greeted with a fresh bouquet of gorgeous flowers. The room had an incredible view of the Mecom Fountain and Hermann Park. The hotel is a great location for whatever you want to do around Houston.
We went to the Spa and the staff were so professional and the services were wonderful. The pool area is so pretty. We had lunch by the pool and it was great. When we got back into the room and there was a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. The entire experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend staying here.

Exceeded expectations. Great staff and location. The architecture of this property is beautiful. The corner room was great but the A/C lacked to keep the room cool, during the day. Absolutely loved the bathroom with the huge stand-in shower. Close to many restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
. Never having been to Houston, we though a downtown location with restaurants and bars would be good and we were not disappointed. On Friday night there was a ton of activity on main street with lots of bars and restaurants and people out. It was much sleepier on Sunday.
The hotel itself is in an old bank and is beautiful building. The lobby area is stunning with its big safe and dramatic lights. We enjoyed the bartender as we had a drink at the bar to get started and then we went to settle into our rooms, Our room was spacious and had modern decorations.
The smell reminded me of old European hotels and it took me a minute to place it as mildew, it was a pretty strong smell. The beds were firm but comfortable and the shower had amazing water pressure. Our shower did not have anything along the bottom to keep the water from flowing out so showers basically flooded our bathroom but we adjusted and made it work, the pressure and temperature were heaven.
The best part of this hotel was the staff. Everyone was nice, helpful and welcoming. Every single interaction we had was positive and we really enjoyed the staff and our stay overall. If i ever had to stay in downtown Houston again, i would totally stay here.
The location is the best–in the heart of Downtown’s action and right next to the Metro Rail for easy access to the Museum District and Hermann Park. In a city known for modernity, the Icon has a gorgeous historic feel, from the massive colonnades of the airy lobby and restaurant to the period look of the rooms and public areas. The rooms are ample and luxe with delightful little touches, such as huge tiled walk-in showers, total blackout curtains (9 am will feel like 9 pm!), and powerful A/C–a huge plus in hot, humid Houston.
If only this hotel had a pool for the 90% of the year when it’s warm enough to swim! The sumptuous breakfast buffet in the Line & Lariat restaurant is well worth its $19 price tag (which includes all the fresh juice and coffee you want). For price, comfort, and service in Downtown Houston, you really can’t do better than the Hotel Icon.
