1. Baan Bayan – Hua Hin 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Hua Hin

Just 320 m from Hua Hin Market Village, the 4-star beachfront Baan Bayan has an outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers. Offering free Wi-Fi and parking, it has a massage room and a restaurant.
Overlooking the courtyard, garden or sea, air-conditioned rooms are spacious and feature a TV and DVD player. For a quick bite, a minibar and tea/coffee making facilities are available in all rooms.
Baan Bayan – Hua Hin is within a 10-minute drive to the golf courses of Hua Hin. It is about 7.8 km from Hua Hin Airport.
Baan Bayan was originally built in the early 1900s. Facing Hua Hin’s white sandy beach, it has the undeniably superb location in one of the most sought after areas there. Baan Bayan forever catches the eyes of passersby with its hundred-year old frangipani tree, its spacious veranda together with its carved eaves and railings embracing the house.
Originally a family’s summer retreat, Baan Bayan was one among many summer beach houses owned by Royal Highness Prince Devawongse Varopakarn. Built during the early period of construction of Hua Hin town and railway station, the house had been handed down to Princess Absornsamarn, consort of Royal Highness Chantaburi Naruenart, before being sold to Khun Prabha Chaiyawat on 1 April 1952. The house was then renamed Baan Bayan, as coined by Ya-Khob, the renowned Thai writer. In the past, Baan Bayan was regularly visited by Khun Prabha, her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Its charm and ambience render feelings of warmth and happiness in its simplest form. Not only does Baan Bayan hold its value as a rare architectural building, but it also reminds those very fond of the house of times passed and memories still cherished. Today, it is one of the rarest and finest examples of a golden teak Thai style bungalow house, lovingly restored to its former glory.
Baan Bayan was awarded the prestigious Historical Architectural Conservation Award in 2005 by the Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) under the Royal Patronage. Guests staying at Baan Bayan can experience the glory of a bygone era, yet with all of today’s modern comforts and amenities. It is positioned as a small exclusive luxury beach hotel offering the charm of a traditional Thai aristocratic beach house. Baan Bayan will allow guests to sink back into a history rich with associations of the swinging, glorious 1920/30’s. Guests who have a desire to experience history and culture and seek a different vacation venue will appreciate the atmosphere at Baan Bayan. Advantageously, the resort is only a few minutes away from Hua Hin town center, market, and airport.
Most hotels are easy to categorise but the Baan Bayan in Hua Hin virtually defies any form of categorisation. At first glimpse it looks old fashioned, but as one slowly learns to appreciate the immense thought and design that has been lovingly placed into the concept of this exquisite small hotel, one realises that this is a very special resort.
The Baan Bayan is located on Petchkasem Road and directly on the beach. The property is set back from the road so absolute peace abounds, just the birds and the ocean. The long entrance way is a little austere but this leads to the open-air reception area where a warm welcome awaits. This is also your first introduction to the unique furnishing and design of the resort. I would date the style and furniture as late 50’s with more modern additions. The décor is predominantly curvilinear and again one can see that great trouble has been take to amass a vast collection that composes part of the unique style.
My room was a ‘Courtyard View room with balcony. It was a very large and well-appointed room with attention to the smallest of details. The room felt Colonial, thought it is not that age. The closet, luggage rack and mini bar are fitted in a room separator providing perfect synergy of shape and size. Dominated by a large king-sized bed with colourful decorations, there is also a desk and small seating area. The bathroom continues the 50’s style with black veined marble and period fittings. The balcony was large and comfortable to sit and enjoy the sunset and listen to the birds singing.
The history of the Baan Bayan resort is the original golden teak Thai style, beach bungalow located amongst the grounds directly on Hua Hin beach. This beach villa has been loving restored to reflect it’s colonial style glory with amazing attention to detail. This gorgeous building forms the focal point of this serene and comfortable resort. Here you will enjoy a sumptuous buffet breakfast each morning amongst the other discerning and friendly guests. It is open style with a lovely sea breeze. Also sculptured into this villa is a charming lounge and an exquisite small massage facility. Do explore this building as the nooks and crannies are a delight and maybe you will also find the inspiration to write!
The grounds continue towards the sea. You will find 2 swimming pools, the beach bar and terraces with sun loungers supplemented with loungers directly on the find white sands of Hua Hin beach. Attention to details continues throughout the property providing wonderful terraces for quiet and serene relaxation.
Wandering around the nooks and crannies of the original house one discovers hidden balconies, terraces, lounges and other tables and chairs tucked away under mature trees or umbrellas. In the peace and quiet that prevails in this resort one can almost imagine the likes of Somerset Maugham and Ernest Hemingway, dressed in white wearing their Panama hats and scribbling furiously away in their notebooks creating new novels, short-stories or plays in this inspirational and ethereal atmosphere.
Staff in the Baan Bayan are extremely attentive and friendly and almost unobtrusive. You will be left alone to enjoy your time but should you require their services they are always close by to satisfy your requests.
Located directly in Hua Hin’s premier beach the opportunities for walking on the soft sand are extensive. Turn right will take you a long way towards Wat Khao Takiap temple located on an outcrop of rock to the south. Turn left and you will walk toward the centre and Old Town. Then return for sun-downers at the Beach Bar.
WiFi coverage is more than adequate throughout the property, however their system does have the annoying habit of requiring the password every time one logs in despite clicking the ‘remember me’ box.
The Baan Bayan Resort is charming and suits a discerning guest looking for tranquillity and informal service. Quality is high, rooms large, comfortable and well air conditioned. Traditional Thai hospitality in harmony with it’s surroundings without the discordant style of modern hotels.

This hotel is right in the middle of town near to all the stilted restaurants and bars. Only a short stroll for all that you require in Hua Hin. The swimming pool is superb with a swim up bar. The beach is next to the pool and is clean and well looked after.
Built right in the middle of the night market where you can find shops, cafes and restaurants easily, the hotel has a private beach access. Our one-bedroom suite booked for this trip is huge with massive living room, a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the beach and hotel’s pool. Although the bed is a bit hard and bathroom looks quite old, they are clean and well prepared for our arrival.
Breakfast is included for us, served at the main restaurant on the ground floor. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas with a wide variety of western and Asian styled breakfast, freshly baked pastries, tropical fruits and drinks corner.
Hotel facilities: outdoor swimming pool is very big. There is a water-slide for kids and those young-at-heart to enjoy. The pool area is quite happening here, pool bar serves good cocktails as well. We also love the sunset drink at the rooftop bar.
This grand old lady of a hotel right smack in the middle of town is well worth a stay. The pool is great and right on the (very nice) beach. We paid the extra for the executive privileges and found them to be well worth it. Great nibbles and booze for cocktail hours 5pm ~ 7pm and lovely breakfast in the resort lounge in the morning with everything one could need or want. The corner room up high gave a nice view. The balconies wrap around for sea and city views. One shared with the nesting pigeons.
Wi-fi is very weak at this hotel – just OK for email. Many balconies of ordinary rooms facing the swimming pool can be viewed from the lifts! Good service all round from the staff though and good value for what’s on offer. I would stay here again, but only in the executive rooms.
Nestled on a beautiful stretch of beach on the Gulf of Thailand, this exquisite resort offers newly renovated rooms that provide magical views of the sea and the village. Whether you watch the sunrise from your private balcony or the multiple boats night fishing, the venue is reminiscent of some of the worlds great seasides i.e. Santa Barbara, Acapulco, Santorini. It has a well-equipped work out room, swimming pools, tennis and squash courts, and a waterslide.

It’s a nice peaceful hotel and didn’t seem busy and about 15 mins away from central Hua Hin. We booked the villa with a pool and would recommend this if you don’t want to sit by the main pool, however only useful to cool off or do some water exercises.
The value for money was great as part of the package as we got a 30 min massage, daily breakfast, daily cocktail or beer and either lunch or dinner each day (2 courses from a set menu featuring a selection of Thai and western dishes).
Pros of the resort were as follows:
– friendly staff, always happy to help although there could at times be a bit of a language barrier.

Creative meeting spaces range from SO Ballroom to the beachside lawn for tailored moments. Family and recreational facilities include a kids club, a wonderland-themed adventure golf, bicycle track and tennis court.
Other than the various swimming pools, to include one with a huge obstacle float for fun and another adult only pool for peace/quiet, there are plenty of activities provided within the hotel – putting, ping pong, basketball, tennis, cycling, etc … one will definitely be well entertained if one is bored from lounging by the pools. There are also Happy Hours available for drinks at various F&B outlets throughout the day which is great. Though the location is in Cha Am which is 30 mins from Hua Hin town but van shuttles are provided to town at a minimal charge from the hotel so it’s still rather convenient to visit the night markets. There is a small private beach but the waves are too choppy & the sand is too ‘rocky’ for our taste.
Our room was the garden view room, spaciously comfortable with an amazing rainshower, and the snacks and drinks were all complimentary… and guess what? The hotel staff will draw you a detox bubble bath upon request! Yup, it was awesome! Buffet breakfast is satisfying with sufficient variety and the food served during lunches and dinners at the restaurants are fairly good as well. Last but not least, the staff service level is excellent; attentive, friendly & consistently prompt. Keep up the good work guys! We give this hotel a 6-star! Will return.
We stayed two nights at SO/ Hua Hin for a getaway romantic trip. We’re fans of the SO/ brand for its lifestyle label with the objective of offering a new experience and modernity to the brand, while still leveraging Sofitel’s luxury positioning & brand awareness. Known for its collative design with several professionals in the field, namely Thai award-winning architect, Duangrit Bunnag (the one who also designed the Naka Phuket we stayed before), interior designer, Donatien Carratier, environmental artist, Martin Hill, American photographer Lois Greenfield, our stay was eye-opening, lovely and enjoyable. We loved the whole architectural design concept and the detailed artworks of SO Wonderland in the hotel
The villa was great and spacious. The terrace and private pool was peaceful. SO Ambassadors were very attentive and cheerful. Assistant Duty Manager, SO Pao gave us a warm welcome and knew my partner’s birthday and treated us as one of the VIPs in the hotel. He walked extra miles in providing customers with the best of the best service in the hotel. He was professional in his role for giving wonderful guest experience, he showed us the upgraded room and introduced the feature and design of the SO/ Hua Hin.
We were impressed by the hotel room design. The room was spacious and comfy, the bathtub and rainforest shower were very nice. Multimedia was provided in-room, including a Smart TV, JBL speaker, Pressreader. Welcoming gifts were the delicious cookies in the hotel. Amenities were upscale and we could enjoy the MyBed features which include choosing the type of pillows. We tried different Sofitel hotels in the world, but it is so different and a unique experience to us. SO/ Hua Hin is stylish, chic and energetic. The team has personalised our stay, ranging from hangers, bedding to food requirements. We enjoyed so much. The hotel has much lush and greenish view, and it certainly be one of the best one in Cha-am and Hua Hin.
We tried the restaurants for breakfast, tea and dinner. White Oven offered a great varieties of choice at breakfast. It serves dietary needs for different guests and introduces a healthy lifestyle to the people nowadays. The staff there was very friendly and proud of being in the SO/ family. A male staff served us, his service standard was excellent, we felt welcome in this hotel. Compared with Red Oven in SO/ Bangkok, I suggest more food variety could be added in the White Oven. We were offered welcome drinks at the Beach Society. The view overlooking the beach was excellent. We also visited the HI-SO Bar, we enjoyed the relaxing environment, experienced the smoothing life at night in Cha-am, and the vibe was really great.
We also enjoyed all the three pools in the hotel, as well as the functional gym@SO/ Fit and relaxing SO/ Spa there. The signature pool was spacious and not crowded, and it is fun to play at the Wibit Adventure Float. f you wish to enjoy a quiet pool environment, the hotel was so thoughtful to provide an adult pool to guests. The gym was compact, yet machines there were well-equipped. Also there is exercise classes provided every day. As we were attracted by the starlight room in the So Spa, we enjoyed the 2-hour Spa package for couple. We tried the Thai and Aromatherapy massage, and also the facial. The service was excellent and upscale. The masseurs were nice, friendly and professional.
