Huế is a city in central Vietnam that was the seat of Nguyen Dynasty emperors and the national capital from 1802 to 1945. A major attraction is its vast, 19th-century Đại Nội Citadel, surrounded by a moat and thick stone walls. It encompasses the Imperial City, with palaces and shrines; the Forbidden Purple City (Tử cấm thành), once the emperor’s home; and a replica of the Royal Theater.

Scarlett is slightly tucked away from the major street but located at a great location. The staff was professional and kept things clean. The hallways between the rooms was a little tight but the room was spacious and comfortable. The theme and decor of the hotel and rooms was unique and interesting to us.
This is a small hotel tucked away in a short alley behind other buildings which made it an extremely quiet option in this noisy area of the city. Our room (a Passion room) was a little small – it was a good job that we didn’t have too much luggage – but it was extremely comfortable. The bed was large and one of the best of our entire six week trip. The bathroom was a good size with decent shower. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. It is within walking distance of the main shopping and restaurant area and we also walked along the promenade by the river to the Citadel from here. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
This hotel is a real gem. Tucked away off a Main Street – quiet but great location to walk around and discover Hue. The hotel is in a boutique style with lovely furnishings and decor. Very well maintained. The staff are extremely attentive and responsive without being over the top. They have got it just right. Great choice of breakfast – anything you could wish for.
Location– it is tucked in a small back lane just 20m off a main road, behind other buildings. Being only 6 stories tall it is somewhat blocked by other buildings but this makes for a very quiet and peaceful location. In the city it was perfectly located with the main tourist entertainment/shopping area just 3 minutes walk away. There is a convenience store and other shops within a minute or two on either side and it was very easy for taxis to navigate or be found as the main road is always active.
Service– staff are very friendly and welcoming. Very forthcoming with good advice and recommendations without being too pushy. As the team is small you get to know them and they take interest in your stay and experience.
Room– the hotel has been refreshed from what was once a older setting, everything is clean and well appointed. The room was large and spacious (North American large). Bed, furniture, bathroom all nicely decorated.
Spa– not the nicest in comparison to other spas around Hue or in Vietnam. Just a dark room with little decor or atmosphere, no reception or lounge, one just goes directly into the treatment room and out. Give it a miss and hit up one of the other proper ones around the city.
Food– included breakfast was very good. Plenty of fresh offerings with variety. Western dishes, fresh fruit, or Vietnamese items. Service always attentive and non-rushed.
Tours– the hotel offers various touring options. We used one to get around to see all the ancient sites. Safe and secure, although the driver was very slow.
Pickup/dropoff– used the airport pickup service, worked well, driver with sign waiting on arrival and car nearby.

Firstly, excellent location on a quiet street but close to restaurants and a 30min pleasant walk to the citadel.
This hotel is a nice modern choice in a great central locations. A quick 5 minute walk to bars and restaurants and 10 minute taxi ride to the Citadel and Imperial Palace.
The hotel is clean and comfortable with nice modern features the jacuzzi pool is also nice but is basically just a big hot tub not a full pool like it looks in the pictures.
The breakfasts here are also very good with lots of choice and eggs made to order.
The hotel is well located in Hué for both airport and city centre- imperial palace is about 15 mins on foot. The hotel is very modern and the rooms are very well equipped. The staff were all extremely friendly and could not have been more helpful.
The Alba Spa Hotel is well located, on a quiet street, but within easy walking distance of the night-scene neighborhood and also old city. The building is fairly new, rooms are large, comfortable and well-appointed. The breakfast is superb and the restaurant well worth considering for dinner. The staff can arrange visits and transportation to the many Hue sights. The spa itself is beautiful and relaxing.
The Alba hotel has a lot going on for it: The room was large and very stylish. The staff was engaging and welcoming. The breakfast was extensive, and probably the best I had in Vietnam. The location was what sold me on it though. It’s on a relatively small side street, away from the insanity that occurs in the main tourist area of town, which you’ll likely visit but will be glad you can walk several minutes and escape it.
It’s also a short walk to the riverfront, which is a tranquil place to stroll at night and in the early morning. It’s even within walking distance(2-3 km) of the Imperial City (A must visit, especially later in the day in the winter, as the lighting creates an incredible place for photos). In addition,if you happen to be on a high-maintenance diet, i.e. vegan like me, there are several nearby vegetarian restaurants. Moreover, if you prefer coffee and craft beer to good, also like me, there’s a tiny hotel nearby that has both (Stop into the Cong cafe too. It’s very hip).

How much does a room costs at Alba Spa Hotel?
Prices start 42$/night for Deluxe Room. The Alba Junior Suite with City View is 60$/room per night with breakfast included – if coming on a honeymoon this is the perfect choice for gay couples.

3. Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa 5* – Gay Friendly Hotels Hue

Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa is a rustic resort in a secluded area of Thua Thien Hue. It offers authentic Vietnamese culture and hospitality, extensive spa treatments, and different onsite bars and restaurants. From the property, guests can take the complimentary shuttle bus into Hue. Nearby attractions include tombs of Khai Dinh, Tu Duc and Minh Mang.
At Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa guests can chose between beautifully furnished bungalows, huts, villas and houses that are all surrounded by natural green forest. Some units include private pools, a plunge pool, gardens, and a variety of free services.
Guests can enjoy attending Vietnamese cooking classes, Tai Chi classes, or select from different tours available. Alternatively, the resort’s swimming pools and the spa offer many ways to relax.
Pilgrimage Village is a traditional Vietnamese boutique resort blending harmoniously in the local environment. Set amidst lush green gardens and lily ponds, Pilgrimage Village is a haven, where the pace of life slows down… looking for lost time? Immerse yourself in a myriad of experiences from the luxurious naturally inspired spa treatments to Tai Chi, yoga or perhaps some chakra cleansing. A sanctuary for the mind, body and spirit. Relax, rejuvenate and revitalize.
What an attractive hotel it is spread through lovely gardens dotted with lily ponds and the sound of cicadas – very atmospheric. The rooms are large and comfortable with balconies. There are two swimming pools – one is very large with a bar at one side that was used by swimmers seated in the water at the bar counter.
Pilgrim Village is an oasis to relax and enjoy while visiting Hue! The grounds and facilities are wonderful. The staff is attentive and friendly. The rooms are large, clean and wonderful. The spa treatments are wonderful and reasonably priced. I highly recommend staying here.
While this hotel is a few minutes from town by taxi, it is the place to stay while visiting Hue.
This is a true 5 star hotel that is very high on service. The property is lush and gorgeous. The room we had was large and decorated very nicely.
The pool is fantastic and feels like you are in the jungle. Very good restaurant and bars available.
The room was spacious with a king sized bed, couch, and desk. There was a bowl of fruit provided in the room as well as bottled water and coffee. The bathroom was enormous. It had a double sink, separate-ish toilet, and and in-ground tub with shower head. There was also an outdoor shower but because it’s the rainy season, we didn’t utilize it or the pool. We arrived at night time and had dinner at their onsite restaurant. It was quite pricey because it’s a resort but the food was good and the location is a bit more on the outskirts of Hue city center so our dining options were limited.
The cool elegance of the high ceilinged vernacular house with its tree-lined pool, provided the perfect relaxed backdrop to our sightseeing in Hue. We visited a number of the exquisite palace-tombs in the vicinity, as well as the magnificent Imperial City in central Hue – choosing to have dinner each night at the Hotel restaurant, where the food and service were both of high quality.
We opted to stay in the “adults only” area with a bungalow and pool right out our door. I think due to Covid this exception was fairly lenient, since there were children, but there were no young babies or toddlers. Our room is lovely, and the service staff has been very kind. We had a huge spider in the bathroom (it’s the jungle so it happens) and the cleaning staff came and removed it right away.
Breakfasts were in another, lakeside, restaurant. Huge variety of Vietnamese, Continental and English dishes. I matched rashers of smoked bacon with freshly-baked rolls: bacon rolls yey!
There’s a huge main pool too, for all guests to use.
The tea shop is just for villa guests, (I think), and there’s a library of exchange books and a shop.
We loved the lush, semi-tropical gardens, and the weaving pathways.
