1. Haadtien Beach Resort 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Koh Tao

Haadtien Beach Resort
Haadtien Beach Resort

Haadtien Beach Resort is a boutique resort nestled on a secluded beach in Koh Tao Island. Set on Thian-Org Bay (Shark Bay), it is surrounded by palm groves and offers spacious villas with private balconies. Free wired internet is available at the public areas.

Haadtien Resort is a 15-minute drive Mae Haad Pier and 1 km from the nearest village and local shops.

Villas offer much comfort and privacy with ample outdoor seating area and a private bathroom. They are fitted with rustic wooden furnishings and equipped with a TV, a minibar and a hairdryer.

Guests can enjoy traditional Thai massages at the resort. Arrangements for activities such as hiking, canoeing, mountain biking and yoga classes can be made at the tour desk. Snorkelling equipment is available at reception.

Haadtien Beach Resort is a boutique destination set in a stunning backdrop of beachfront panoramas, featuring its own 380 metre secluded beach situated at the southern tip of Koh Tao. The property contains 70 private villas thoughtfully spaced amongst over 45 acres of land, which features a stunning natural bay, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

This is the best resort on the island .The villas (castaway and pool) are beautiful, organic, natural, and puristic. The food is amazing the service is impeccable. The beach is a dream, and the sea,is clear and clean, and there are not many mosquitos because of the wind on this side. No sunset, but a beautiful sunrise.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. The hotel runs the full length of the beach on Shark bay so the beach is almost exclusive to the hotel. The layout of the hotel is good and has some amazing rooms right on the beach with your own private area. You can do some great snorkelling from the beach.

The staff were really friendly and always willing to help. The hotel does a free pickup and drop off service to the pier on arrival and departure.

The hotel provides a shuttle service into town, which is great as there isn’t much that is accessible outside of the hotel on foot. The shuttle only goes into town 3 times a day and you can only get a return drop off in the evening. You can of course book your own taxi but it would be a nice touch if the hotel provided a more frequent service.

There was plenty of space at the resort but the number is sun-beds and umbrellas was somewhat lacking which meant all beds were reserved, by towel, first thing in the morning but still empty. Adding a few more beds and umbrellas would have catered better for the number of guests the hotel holds.

The drinks (cocktails) and food weren’t great but there is a nice bar round the corner called Shark View Bar that does good cocktails and there are plenty of great restaurants in town should you want different options.

Overall the hotel was good but has the potential to be great.

Our ocean view room was beautiful with the most amazing views morning and evening. The private beach was also lovely, where you can rent snorkels to see the turtles. Although a little further out, the hotel provide free shuttles to the pier and Sairee beach and the whole island can be travelled in 20 minutes, so it is worth it to be 10 minutes out and have the beauty, privacy and service of Haadtien. The resort has three restaurants; we only tried “in sea” but highly recommend. The food could not be faulted and the staff were excellent, particularly Htay who kept us laughing all night and taught us about Thai culture.

The resort beach is gorgeous, beautiful white sand, blue water, good snorkeling, and fabulous expansive views. The villas were simple and clean and perfect for us… the housekeeping staff did a wonderful job with daily cleaning, and the whole resort felt pristine. We enjoyed breakfast at the resort everyday, which provided a wide variety of western style and local offerings. The service was excellent, and the staff were friendly without being intrusive.

Most of our days activities were off site exploring the island on foot, which we loved, and also scuba diving, but we ate a few lunches and one dinner at the resort. We became huge fans of the island of Koh Tao, which we found to be safe and interesting, affordable, and fun. We tried out several local massage spas, which were family friendly and delivered some of the best Thai massage we have ever experienced. We also used the hotel spa and also had wonderful experiences!!! The food on the island was delicious, and inexpensive. Everything is understated, although beautiful this is not a “luxury” destination, more of a spot for people who love to be outdoors and active, and we found our experience to be absolutely delightful. We hope to return to Koh Tao and Haad Tien Resort again soon!

2. The Fisherman’s Villas 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Koh Tao

The Fisherman's Villas
The Fisherman’s Villas

Surrounded by peace and nature in Koh Tao, The Fisherman’s Villas offers cosy self-catering villas with stunning ocean views. Free transfers upon arrival and departure from/to Mae Haad and free shuttle service can be arranged upon request. Complimentary private parking is also available at the property.

Each fully furnished villa comes with air-conditioned bedrooms, and private bathroom with hot/cold shower. Kitchen is well equipped with a refrigerator, stove top, microwave, minibar and cooking utensils. All villas come with a private plunge pool and outdoor lounge areas.

Breakfast is available at the on-site restaurant. With just a 20-minute drive from the property, guests will find a wide selection of restaurants serving local and international cuisines. Shark Bay, popular area for snorkelling and diving is only 400 m away. Nearby attractions include Sairee Beach (4 km) and Nang Yuan Island (7 km). Mae Haad Pier is about 15 minutes drive away from the villa.

The Fisherman’s Villas consists of six detached and modern houses which are located high up on a cliff overlooking the sea towards the nearby beach Thian og Bay (Shark Bay) and the Ang Thong National Marine Park on the southeastern tip of Koh Tao. The Fisherman’s Villas offers cozy self-catering villas with stunning ocean views

The Fisherman’s Villas is a lovely set of villas set up on a hillside overlooking Shark Bay. The villas are interspersed amongst other villas owned by different companies.

The villas are spacious and the staff very helpful and friendly. The villa has a large kitchen and contain everything you need to prep a meal. The only downside (which is probably also it’s upside) is the location. It is about as far from the port/central area as you can be, which is nice in itself. But given the extremely steep and tricky roads, you really need to rent a scooter (not for the faint of heart though given the steep roads) to be able to get anywhere.
They offer free pickup service from the pier and bring you to your room. The rooms are wonderfully positioned with great views of the ocean and bay below. It’s easy to just sit on your patio all day, jumping into the pool from time to time to cool off, and just watch the beauty all around you.

Being positioned on the hills, they have wonderful sea breezes that blow in during the morning and evening hours. It was easy for us to spend hours upon hours every day just sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean, feeling the warm wind blow upon us. It was heavenly.

The villas have everything you could need to keep you comfortable for an extended stay. There is a very thorough booklet with loads of information about the island, services offered and how you can enjoy your time on Koh Tao. There is also another booklet that has menus of all the places you can order food to be delivered to your villa. If you do not prefer to eat in delivery, the villas are about a 8 minute motorbike ride into town where you can find many restaurants. Motorbikes can easily be rented with the help of a provider who lives just down the road.

Speaking of roads, the roads leading up the villa are very steep. If you have driven motorbikes before, you should be fine if you are a cautious driver. However, for the novices, it might be best to gain confidence on other roads before going up these hillsides. The steepness of the roads is what provides the villas with such wonderful views looking down on the water below, but they do take some getting used to.

The Fisherman´s Villas are away from the main town, and for a romantic getaway this is perfect! My partner has a motorcycle license so we were able to rent a bike from halfway up the hill.

We also had in room massages which were lovely, however my only feedback on that was that there wasn’t actually anywhere for them to do the massage, i was put on couch cushions outside and my boyfriend on the bed. We would’ve liked it as a couples massages next to each other.

We will return and we highly recommend! The host was kind and courteous, he left us to our own devices but was also only a whatsapp message away if we needed him.

3. The Tarna Align Resort 4* – LGBT Friendly Resorts Koh Tao

The Tarna Align Resort
The Tarna Align Resort

Outstanding with its imposing architecture atop a luscious hill in Ko Tao, The Tarna Align Resort boasts a restaurant, diving lessons, and a relaxing outdoor pool. It offers bright, modern rooms with thoughtful amenities and stunning views. During the stay, guests can take advantage of massage treatments and free WiFi.

Offering plenty of natural light, each guestroom is complete with softwood furniture and décor, a flat-screen satellite TV, a seating area and a minibar. A safety deposit box is standard in all units. Selected rooms come with garden, pool or sea views. A shower and free toiletries are included in en suite bathrooms.

The Tarna Align Resort (Koh Tao) offers a great variety of services including top class accommodation, diving courses and trips, two restaurants (Japanese, Thai and Western cuisine), spa and much more. It is located on top of a hill just a 5 minute drive away from Sairee and all its amenities. The Tarna Align is the best place to relax at the end of a day well spent around Koh Tao. The Tarna Align Resort offers the following free schedule transfers services twice a day: – Round-trip transfer between Mae Haad Pier and The Tarna Align Resort. Guests are kindly requested to inform the property in advance if they wish to make use of this service or contact the reception. Contact details can be found on the booking confirmation. – Transfer from The Tarna Align Resort to Sairee Beach Centre.

The hotel is modern and beautiful, it’s up a steep hill from Sairee beach. The walk is really steep so not for anyone with mobility issues or not too fond of walking! It is further out than the centre of Sairee beach. The resort does offer a shuttle service which is useful but they aren’t too often and are at set times.

The resort itself is beautiful and our room was stunning with a view of the sea and Sairee beach! There are lots of stairs within the resort so again probably not for those with mobility issues! There is no door to the bathroom which is slightly odd, just with glass compartments around the toilet and shower. But as you can see the room and view were truly stunning. There are frogs around the resort who are really loud at night. We were startled on our first night and had to ring reception but you get used to them and it’s all part of being in the jungle mountain!

The cocktails were amazing – I’d definitely recommend the swimming pool cocktail it was lovely! Good happy hour deal as well 🙂 breakfast was pretty good, good coffee which was needed as we hadn’t found anywhere else in Thailand with great coffee!

Hotel is based on top of a hill but provides free shuttle rides to Sairee beach. Breakfast was good, providing hot options and Thai food. Staff were friendly and book taxis for you. Resort extremely quiet (maybe due to off season) so perfect if you’re wanting some time away.

Room was large and very modern however there is no private toilet door which we found odd. We would recommend a day trip to Nangyuan island, as that was the highlight of our stay. There is an excellent viewpoint and great for snorkelling. You can walk to Sairee beach from the hotel in 10-15 mins however the walk back is up a steep hill. Hotel and Koh Tao in general very good value for money compared to the other islands.

The resort is fairly new – I think only 4 years old – and it is a modern design. We were received at the check in desk with a lovely fresh juice and biscuit. Our room was upgraded from a sea view villa to have a semi private pool which was a lovely surprise! The room is immaculately clean and also modern ally designed. The bed is comfy and the amenities are well stocked.

Room service is prompt and the food is also delicious. Prices are slightly higher than what you find outside but it is all accompanied by excellent service.

There are a variety of pools to jump into but the semi private pool
in our “backyard” is an infinity overlooking the ocean on a hillside – can’t get much better!

The one warning – It is a slight trek to get to the resort from Sairee beach main intersection. It is up a hill and the resort itself is up a slight steep incline. However, they offer complimentary shuttles down to the main intersection as well as to the ferry pier. We will be taking advantage of this service, especially with luggage.

Lovely stay, and highly recommend if you’re looking to ball out on your vacation in Koh Tao.
