This is a great hotel for staying at Ljubljana. It is within the pedestrianised area of the city, just a stone’s throw from the river. The suites are all different and have their own unique character.
The bed was very comfortable, however the Slovenians don’t seem to get ‘pillows’ as such. Everywhere we went the pillows never offered much more than air and feathers!
Anyway, breakfast was included and consisted of cold meats, cheeses, smoked salmon along with fruit, cereals, boiled eggs, pastries, toast, bread, unlimited coffee and fruit juices. A great way to start the day.
This old building has been furnished into a beautiful, authentic hotel, with lots of character. Albeit not to everyone’s taste, the photos show you whether or not this is the right place for you.
Perfectly situated close by to the river, the staff are all really friendly and eager to help. Even after we had checked out they brought us hot drinks while we waited for our taxi.
The hotel was clean, there were a few things that needed fixing such as a couple of broken floor tiles but nothing that spoilt the stay.
The breakfast was lovely, although it was a small selection there was still something for everyone and the part of the building you eat in was gorgeous.
The hotel is in a great location to get to restaurants and all the sites. It’s an old palace and a maze of rooms and very large somewhat unused lounge and dining areas. There is also a nice outdoor courtyard. They have obviously put a lot of work in restoring this place but there is still much to be done. Our room was huge– lovely parquet floors, nice furniture, a weird standalone very fancy shower. The breakfast is a minimal cold breakfast. The staff is very helpful and arranged a tour for us but seems overwhelmed.
Very picturesque hotel located in central Ljubljana. Not your typical “business hotel” but a hotel full of charm and character and something a bit different.
Very clean and comfortable rooms and bathroom with a classy feel to the place. Nice internal garden area and very friendly staff. Room was grand bust cosy and very quiet. Location is amazing, a few minutes walk from central Ljubljana. Definitely worth a try.
Ljubljana is such a beautiful city, walkable and very clean, take a paper cup and drink water out of its many fountains, you can even get milk out of Street dispensers too.
The new town is quite forgettable but has a good selection of shops.

It features an attractive restaurant and an outdoor bar area where light meals are also served in a precinct filled with dining and drinking options. Across the river is a a major square and further shopping outlets, including some widely recognised names, notable buildings and expansive parks.
The citadel fortress which overlooks the city is only a few hundred metres away, albeit up a steep slope, but a funicular railway is also available. Slovenia is primarily forested and contains a number of spectacular lakes, most notably Bled, which are easily and speedily accessed by a modern and well maintained road network. Bled is less than an hour by road from central Ljubljana and is an essential destination for visitors, however, weekends are exceptionally busy and entry to the town can be slow.
Facilities and service at the Vader Urbani are first class. Food and beverage options in the main restaurants are wide ranging and breakfasts, which are included in the tariff, both generous and varied.
Breakfast was typical buffet options with a small menu of egg dishes and other items. We stuck with the buffet and enjoyed the fresh breads, jams, yogurts, and granola. One minor issue we had was service for a glass of wine. The bar was closed for a private party, so we sat outside to get a glass of wine and it took 10+ minutes for a server to come by. It was not a huge deal and it was a nice night out to sit and watch people.
Location is amazing – located down an alley between the cobblestone streets of the old town and the cafe lined river. Very easy to find somewhere to eat and drink and explore the city.
Bathroom was clean but very small vanity area to store your toiletries etc.
The food at the hotel is great and as well as the complimentary breakfast we got every morning. The room we got was really nice big with a really Modern big bathroom. I highly recommend staying in hotel. As for Ljubljana and Slovenia it’s a very clean pedestrian friendly place also an amazing place and country it’s a little hidden gem of Europe in our eyes.
The location of the hotel could not be better. It’s located in the pretty old town along the river and with all the bars it’s amongst the great atmosphere of Ljubljana! I’d definitely recommend enjoying a drink in the bar (especially if you can grab one of the outside seats facing out to the street/river).
The rooms are small but adequate! Shower was amazing and the beds were extremely comfortable. Despite the hotel being located in a busy area we didn’t have any issues with noise at night.
The staff are very friendly and do all they can to make your staff enjoyable. It was my mums birthday when we arrived (which was noticed by the receptionist on arrival) so they offered a free dessert which was a lovely gesture. We also enjoyed the breakfasts! You can order eggs/omelettes etc how you like and are freshly made for you.
We also enjoyed a few hours up on the roof terrace. It’s a nice place to relax and I can imagine it’s quite unique for this facility.

The location is perfect! It is a 5 minute walk to the main bus station, a 5 minute walk into the centre and around 15 minutes to Ljubljana castle and park Tivoli.
Our room was very clean and we had comfortable beds, a powerful shower, kettle, safe, TV and hairdryer. The breakfast buffet was excellent and we were spoilt for choice with a variety of hot and cold food.
Convenient location with a 5 minute walk to the square, comfortable room with a lovely bed. Was surprised how many english channels the tv had. Room a bit too warm but could leave the door open which was good if you don’t mind a bit of street noise.
City hotel Ljubljana was fantastic. Perfect location – walking distance to absolutely everything in the city. Tiny (standard for Europe) but super clean and efficient rooms. Modern decor and amenities throughout the hotel. They had a huge fresh breakfast each morning. The cafe was great for a mid afternoon pick me up as well.
City Hotel is conveniently located just a block or 2 from the pedestrian area. The advantage of staying outside the pedestrian area is get pickup and dropoff right at the door of the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance to restaurants, supermarket and main tourist areas of Ljubljana. The hotel is also within 7 minutes walk to the main bus and train station.
The room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was excellent. Rate was fair. Service was very good. The hotel could arrange shuttle airport pick up for 9 euros.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the bus station. The hotel itself is downtown and only a few minute walk from the Christmas Market and River where all the happening places are. The hotel haas a very friendly staff – i forget the name of the gentleman that helped us but he was fantastic! The rooms were bigger than the typical european Hotel. Nice bathroom with a roomy shower which is a big plus in Europe. We had a nice comfortable King Bed and the wall painting was a pic of the city – very beautiful. The hotel is in a convenient location to walk down to the river and old town of Ljubljana. The hotel has a parking garage (with a daily fee) that was handy for our rental car. The staff was very friendly and helpful, asked where we were from, and provided recommendations for our stay.
The room was a good size, comfortable, and modern. There was some car/vehicle noise, but it wasn’t a problem. The bathroom had a larger shower, not the normal small European hotel showers. The breakfast buffet had lots of choices from the yogurt, breads and jams to eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, and a few dessert.
I would recommend the hotel for a good location in the city and we would stay here again.

Host your clients in our elegant 19th-floor boardrooms, then treat them to a drink in our chic Bloom Lounge or the exclusive Club InterContinental. After rejuvenating at the spa, you can dine in style at our rooftop B restaurant.
The hotel is about a ten minute walk to the old town and the Tivoli gardens, and about a fifteen minute walk to the funicular to take you up to the castle, so very convenient to see the city. A perfect city centre hotel.
The room was very large and well equipped, and convenient for the Exec lounge. The Exec lounge was really nice, again always well stocked with food and drinks, and breakfast was very good. There was a buffet but also an a’la carte menu from which you could order hot food. The breakfast was also very well cooked and tasty. The evening drinks and nibbles were from 6pm till 8pm, all drinks and wines were included and were plentiful.
Food: We ate breakfast every morning at “B” on the 19th floor and it was excellent every time. I suggest including the breakfast package. We had dinner in B on our arrival night and it was also very, very good. If we had not had other reservations we may have eaten dinner here again. We also had lunch in the lobby cafe and it was excellent. Nothing to complain about here.
Bar: The bar on the 19th floor is exactly what you want in a hotel bar. Probably some of the best views in the city, comfortable, creative cocktails, and great staff. Make sure you have a drink up here or at least check it out around sunset.
Room: Very comfortable bed, and excellent bathroom. The deluxe room was VERY large and modern. Tons of windows and light, though it was easy to darken for sleeping. They are building another high-rise hotel across the street and the noise never bothered us. Here’s where I must address problem 1: You cannot regulate the lighting. It’s either ALL ON or ALL OFF (with the exception of low lighting in the bathroom). Not a huge deal, but when you wake up just now hitting the light switch is going to be a very bright experience. I prefer the option to turn select lights on or off or even better, set levels for them but sadly, you cannot do that in these rooms (- 1/2 star).
Housekeeping: Sporadic at best. This is the area where I think they need to focus on the most as everything else was so well run, but sadly this fell flat a couple days. For example, one day we returned and the bed was made, glassware was removed, but that was it (water not replenished, basin not cleaned, etc). Another day we returned and the bed was not even made (and we were out all day so it couldn’t be a timing thing). Not sure why they had problems with this, but it should be addressed for a five-star hotel (- 1/2 point).
