Whilst Malaysia is not really a gay friendly country, you will be tolerated as long as you are not over the top with it and into public displays of affection. A few gay friendly hotels Melaka Malaysia are available to be booked online.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Malaysia face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Sodomy is a crime in the country, and social attitudes towards the LGBT community are shaped by Islam, the official state religion of Malaysia.
Malacca City (also spelled Melaka) is the capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in southwestern Malaysia. At its center, Jonker Street, Chinatown’s main thoroughfare, is known for antique shops and its night market. Nearby, the 17th-century Chinese Cheng Hoon Teng temple has ornate decorations and multiple prayer halls. A green, 3-tiered roof tops the 18th-century, Javanese-influenced Kampung Kling Mosque.
Top Things to Visit in Melaka
While not a destination you would probably want to spend days in, spending at least one day in Melaka should be considered. … While ultra very touristy in places, Melaka has a lot to offer that makes it stand out from the more basic and unattractive towns and cities on the mainland.

The hotel location is near to Element Mall, with a good cinema. The mall is not connected to the hotel yet, and it can be confusing when taking the hotel lift to the level, which says mall.
The hotel is situated around 10 mins from the town area, and will cost you between 6-8RM from hotel to town. Alternatively, you can take the free shuttle available at the hotel, very convenient and operates hourly. The hotel is next to the Elements Mall, but do not expect too much. The Mall is barely occupied and there’s a cinema and a 7/11 which I guess were the only redeeming stores.
Overall, recommended if you are looking for a modern hotel in town, but if you are looking for a hotel with accessible amenities (shopping etc) you may choose to stay in the town itself instead.
The room itself is spacious and has the standard amenities, including coffee making facilities, bedroom slippers, iron and safe. The double bed is comfortable; there is a sofa and also work desk with the necessary plug points. Unfortunately our room overlooks the city and not the sea, it would have been nice getting a sunset view over the Straits of Malacca.
The one minus point is the bathroom. The rain shower worked fine and the water pressure was good. But the drainage was too slow. Several times it threatened to overflow and once it actually did, flooding the rest of the bathroom.
Besides that, their hotel app called ” Hilton Honors” is really convenient, we could check in before arriving hotel, communicate with hotel by using the app and they will respond immediately. Their colleagues even message us by using this app during our stay to check any assistance required by us. Really fantastic and will definitely go back again in near future.
The rooms are very spacious, the shower is so big you could have a party in it. The beds and pillows are very comfy. Every facility you could possibly need and more is on hand. There is a hop on hop off bus which runs every hour which is a great help getting around. To the valets, reception staff and the general manager we would like to say a big thank you for your helpfulness and warm hospitality.
Breakfast was a generous buffet spread with malay, chinese, indian and western cuisine. They even have a sarang madu lebah which was super tasty.
Service was very good as they always greet you with a smile.

2. Ibis Melaka 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Melaka
Featuring free WiFi and a fitness centre, Ibis Melaka offers accommodation in Melaka, 400 m from Sam Po Kong Temple. Guests can enjoy the on-site bar. Free private parking is available on site.
Offering white and ash-brown interiors with a dash of red, rooms are Ibis Melaka come air-conditioned. Each room has a flat-screen satellite TV, open closet and a work desk. Bathrooms have shower facilities. Slippers, free toiletries and a hairdryer are provided.
Centrally located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ibis Melaka is only 10-minute walk from Jonker Street, Red Square and many top historical attractions! The hotel offers 249 rooms with exclusively designed Sweet Bed, a swimming pool, unlimited free high-speed Internet, 3 modern meeting rooms, Web Corner, a Bar, a Restaurant and a Garden Gym. It is ideal for both leisure and business travellers.
Located next to Little India (so can have a few smells if you not used to this) this hotel is just a short walk to the river and Jonker Street plus other attractions. Parking is behind the hotel so convenient and seemed plenty of spaces.
Building wise, I have to say that the architecture is marvellous. Very beautiful and inviting exterior in something of a colonial style. The Reception area was nicely decorated, spacious and welcoming. Room was pleasantly spacious as well and fairly clean. I had a room facing the main road (202) but there wasn’t much street noise affecting my sleep either.
Location was a good 10 mins walk to the main attractions such as Jonker Street, Christ Church as well aa A Formosa. A 10 mins walk in the opposite direction and one would be able to get to The Shore where Melaka Sky Tower is.
The hotel is quite near to the Jonker Street, quite a big hotel to missed. If you are driving there, the hotel also provide car park space for Free. Check in process was quite fast with the front desk checking us in within few minute, the room itself is quite big and comfortable.
The hotel itself have a fairly big swimming pool and also Gym facility, plus with close proximity to tourist hot spot, it is definitely one of a good choice to stay in Melaka.
The location is good, close enough to walk to Jonker Street and other attractions.
The rooms are fairly modern, with a minimalist look with dark tones. Like other Ibis hotels, furnishings are kept to a minimum with an open area to hang clothes rather than a cupboard. A nice touch was the in-built lighting in the bathroom mirror, useful for makeup / touch ups. Our room faced the main street but didn’t get much traffic noise, even over the weekend.
The breakfast area was large and was able to accommodate a large number of hotel guests having breakfast. Service was good and tables were cleared promptly.
But the best thing about this hotel for me is the location. Its walking distance to all the major sights eg Jonker Street, St Paul, A Famosa etc. I mean easy walk not like what other places claim as walking distance but actually more than 1 kilometer. I did not break a sweat to get to Jonker Street.
Hotel Ibis finally made its present in Melaka which we have been waiting for a long time. Ibis is an international brand associated with reasonably priced room rate but a reasonable interior. From our observation many boutique hotels follow the basic design of Ibis and offer lower room rate than Ibis which is a good development in the hospitality market.
What Melaka is lacking is a hotel standard below 5 star and more affordable with acceptable quality and Ibis fulfill this requirement and we noticed there are quite a number of international travellers staying in this hotel booked by their travel agent as they are familiar with the brand.
Ibis used to be located next to a railway station. They still do but their approach has changed and they can be found everywhere. Ibis Melaka is located along Jalan Bendahara and if you are travelling by car from the north you will pass through M2 Hotel, Bayview Hotel, Orkid Hotel, Ramada Plaza Hotel, Treasure Hotel, Bendahara Hotel and then Ibis Hotel.
The Jalan Bendahara leading to the Clock Tower which is at the town centre is the most congested during most of the time as roads from three directions will converge into one. But, you can actually walk along the Red Buildings of Dutch Stadhurst Colonial Heritage or along the river and begin your exploration from this red building towards the clock tower, mini amsterdam, Hard Rock Cafe, Jonker Street, HM shopping, boardwalk Melaka river and ended up taking the river cruise which is better than Amsterdam river cruise. All these we can do it by just walking. At night you can return to the hotel by trying the beautifully decorated trishaw with blasted loud music at RM20 being their standard rate and take a souvenir photo.
From the clock tower you can continue walking towards the direction of Equatorial hotel leading towards the Melaka iconic A Formosa, which is a small remnant of a Portuguese Fort. Historically the Portuguese founded Melaka in 1511. Melaka is located along the spice trade route and Melaka was colonized by Portuguese, the Dutch and later the British. The South East Asian region was divided by the European, Malaya where Melaka is located was taken by the British, Indonesia by the Dutch and Philippines by the Spanish.
The amenities inside is as expected. It has a decent lobby and they provide bell boy services to take your luggage to your room. Check in is OK. The Lobby looks nice with blue colour theme and the dining located just next to it. The shower water pressure is great, the aircon works very well and there is an extra pillow if you are 2-pillows person and extra bolsters which you can only find in this part of the world, ironing & coffee/tea making facilities.
The breakfast is good enough if you are not that fussy about food. For dining it has not received the Halal Certificate so we walked to Ramada Plaza which has the best spread of choices and wonderful taste. In fact Ramada Plaza is the best choice but Ibis around, we prefer to stay at Ibis and have our food at Ramada as Ramada isca 5-Star Hotel with higher room rate.
All in all, Ibis is a welcome development in Melaka providing a decent accomodation with a reasonable rate and walking distance to almost all tourist attractions within the town centre. You can never go wrong with Ibis.

This place quite near to Dataran Pahlawan mall and mahkota parade. They also have gym at 7th floor and cafe at 1st floor.
If you were to walk it will take you about 15 mins to reach Dataran Pahlawan Mall or Hatten Hotel.
Located in the heart of Malacca city centre, the hotel simply has the amazing wow factors at each and every corner of the building. The staffs were extremely friendly and helpful with welcoming gesture and of course indirectly encouraging them for another stay.
The hotel is very new and extremely nicely renovated – industrial themed. Its located near to Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall and is easily accessible, with ample parking space and a security guard. Room was clean, big and comfortable.
The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. The Wi fi is fabulous and the room cleaning service is great. Tea and coffee are provided and plenty of water when you ask for it. There is a lot drawer space too. As for the bathroom, what I liked about it most is the shower which has a handset as well as a proper ‘rain’ shower.
It also has a sturdily fitted basket on the wall for you to place your soaps and shampoos and loofahs! If you are like me and carry your own stuff when you travel, you will love it! One final feature of this hotel that I really like is the labelling of the lift and floors! No way will you ever get off on the wrong floor and you will always know which direction to go to find your room or any other room!
The inside door of the lift is labelled in LARGE script from top to bottom telling you which room is on which floor! As soon as the door to the lift opens, smack in your face the wall has the floor number and direction to all the rooms in HUGE script! Even the external walls of the building in the courtyard are labelled so you will always know which floor is yours! I have never seen this anywhere else and I just love it! If you are like me like clarity in directions, you will appreciate this!
The restaurant deserves its own paragraph as it exceeded my expectations. The environment is pleasant and the waiters are very welcoming and it is a rather nice space. The menu is limited and on my last day I decided to take it easy and go to the hotel early and try one of the ‘fusion’ dishes on the rather small menu. I chose the homemade mushroom soup and fettuccine Carbonara. Both dishes were superb! I truly enjoyed the food and would recommend it highly if you stay at the hotel. The servings are of a very reasonable size so you can easily have two dishes and finish your plate!

Location of hotel is very near amenities and directly opposite the Mahkota Shopping Centre. However, like most of the reviewers mentioned, there is a major road to be crossed and the road can be quite busy. Manageable and patience required unless you want to walk about 4 to 5 hundred meters to a crossing.
Hotel is also walking distance to some of the major tourist sights and Jonker Walk, and to some popular restaurants and eating places.
Big comfortable and modern rooms and suites.with clean and modern bathrooms, which include a shower and bathtub.
The Executive Lounge provides Breakfast and evening snacks. Coffee and drinks throughout the day. Also here the staff is really wonderful in making you so welcome and superbly looked after.
The hotel is at a busy road which cannot be crossed safely on foot. However the hotel provides mini bus shuttles to two points in town, which is making up for this.
Location
While not located in the historic part of Melaka, the Holiday Inn is quite well situated for access to the river and is a short (15 minute) walk from Jonker Street. Nearby are a couple of shopping malls which are convenient if you are after a quick bite without going to the effort of going into town.
The hotel can feel quite isolated as it fronts a busy road, but it is trivial to turn left from in front of the hotel and pass under the road bridge. Continuing straight on will eventually get you to the riverfront.
Rooms
We stayed in a family room and it was very pleasant. The children’s bunks were separated by a wall and a curtain and the provision of some children’s toiletries and colouring in materials was very thoughtful. The room was quite spacious with plenty of space to unpack, although there wasn’t space to stow the luggage easily. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom acceptable. The shower was, unfortunately over the bath and a separate shower/bath would have been better.
The room was spotlessly clean.
Amenities
The hotel is well appointed and the gym quite acceptable. The swimming pool is very nice and the water beautifully warm.
Food
We ate only breakfast in the hotel and it was very nice. It was not wildly extravagant, but the variety and quality were of a good standard. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Staff
All staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. They were extremely professional and prompt.

5. The Majestic Malacca Hotel 5* – Gay Friendly Hotels Melaka
Boasting heritage architecture and parts of a mansion dated back to 1920, The Majestic Malacca Hotel is set along the banks of Melaka River and features elegantly decorated guest rooms. This boutique hotel hosts a spa with Peranakan-inspired treatments and an outdoor pool. Free WiFi is accessible throughout and free parking is provided.
The bright and spacious rooms are well-appointed with floor-to-ceiling windows, timber flooring and teak bed frame. The en suite bathroom is separated by wooden sliding doors and features a top bath as well as luxury bath amenities.
Melba at the Mansion specialises in Kristang cuisine and offers casual dining with a view. The restaurant is adorned with wooden furnishings and cultural memorabilia.
In the spirit of Malacca’s commercial History, The Majestic Malacca provides an ideal location for productive retreats. Conveniently located in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site and only a short drive from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The rich culture and history of the city inspires intimate brainstorms and business meetings in this 54-room boutique hotel.
Creativity and innovation and enhanced on the quiet luxurious conference centre ensuring efficiency, performance, and optimal outcomes as each event is supported by modern communications and executed to perfection in any one of the hotel’s three versatile function rooms by knowledgeable and efficient staff.
The reception area is superb in style and presentation, supported by a complement of well turned out, efficient and friendly staff. It is evident that the property has been extended however, the accommodation has been sympathetically modernised to reflect the style of the original building that houses reception, bar and dining room.
The rooms are spacious, well equipped and there are sufficient power points to support modern life.
Food – breakfast – plenty on offer plus a cooked menu and service is attentive.
The original building that houses the reception, bar, lounge and restaurant has been lovingly restored to it’s 1920’s colonial/Chinese heritage with mahogany furniture and Victorian tiled floors. The furnishings and art work are beautiful. It was a joy to sit in the lounge or bar area sipping a beer or gin and tonic whilst admiring the surroundings.
The bedrooms are in a separate new building at the rear of the main building. However, you hardly realise this, as the new building is very tastefully decorated with original pieces of furniture and art work.
Our room overlooked the front of the hotel. The hotel is set back from a road which is next to the main river of the town. We could also see the kampong [traditional Malay village] which was interesting to walk around [although we saw many less urban villages on our bike tour the next day].
The room was tastefully decorated in colonial style with mahogany furniture including in the bathroom. There is a rather odd arrangements of folding wooded doors to separate the bathroom from the main room. This however worked well and again added to the colonial feel. The bed was large and extremely comfortable. Also very quiet. We didn’t hear any noise at all.
There is a small swimming pool. The pool has quite a bit of shade from the two buildings which was good for me and the water temperature was relatively cool which made for a refreshing swim.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening. The food was brilliant although take care as even meals described as “a little spicy” were almost too hot for us. We didn’t have a lot of time for breakfast as we were picked up early for our bike tour, so just had cold food. But this was fresh and plentiful.
