Gay Friendly Hotels Melbourne

Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Melbourne Australia

Perhaps it’s the region’s Melbourne –like weather and progressive vibe, or its diverse yet well-integrated population (you won’t find a concentrated “gayborhood” like Sydney’s Darlinghurst and Oxford Street here); Melbourne, Australia is about as LGBTfriendly as they come. With many gay friendly hotels Melbourne to choose from it’s a great summer or winter destination

Australia is one of the most LGBT-friendly countries in the world. In a 2013 Pew Research poll, 79% of Australians agreed that homosexuality should be accepted by society, making it the fifth most supportive country in the survey behind Spain (88%), Germany (87%), Canada and the Czech Republic (both 80%).

Melbourne is the coastal capital of the southeastern Australian state of Victoria. At the city’s centre is the modern Federation Square development, with plazas, bars, and restaurants by the Yarra River. In the Southbank area, the Melbourne Arts Precinct is the site of Arts Centre Melbourne – a performing arts complex – and the National Gallery of Victoria, with Australian and indigenous art.

1. Cosmopolitan Hotel Melbourne  4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Melbourne

Cosmopolitan Hotel Melbourne
Cosmopolitan Hotel Melbourne

The Cosmopolitan Hotel Melbourne is ideally located at the heart of vibrant St Kilda, only 2 minutes from Acland Street’s café culture and with a tram stop in front of the hotel. Luna Park, Palais Theatre, St Kilda Arts Market and The Esplanade are all on the doorstep.

The Cosmopolitan offers modern accommodation options from minimalist rooms to contemporary hotel rooms and well-equipped serviced apartments. All units feature free WiFi and off-street parking.

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s favourite beachside playground, this 86 room boutique hotel is a perfect base to explore St Kilda, Melbourne, and the rest of Victoria. We’re just moments away from the iconic Luna Park and Palais Theatre, St Kilda Beach, as well as the famous Acland Street cake shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars.

There’s so much to explore and quite a bit of history too. Catering to all budgets whether it be for business or leisure, Cosmopolitan Hotel has accommodation styles to suit all needs. From great value, simply furnished rooms for groups of up to four, to welcoming Deluxe Rooms ideal for couples, and well-equipped apartments for longer stays with the family, we’ve got a room for everyone. We’ve got the extras covered, too: WiFi is complimentary for all guests, there’s a well-stocked drinks fridge at Reception.

Fantastic location. Easy walking distance to everything in St Kilda. 90 second stroll to National Theatre, 5 minute stroll to Esplanade and beach. Only down side was a fair bit of road noise, especially trans, and lots of noise from Saturday night revellers but I live in the country so am more sensitive to city noise than most. Very clean, comfortable beds.

We loved the hotel, the location is close to Acland Road, Luna Park and the Palais Theatre. We found the room comfortable, amenities could be replenished and found the staff great.

Right in the heart of St Kilda and on the tram line to the city. Comfortable and clean with friendly staff. Great little cafes very nearby for breakfast and coffee (no restaurant in the hotel).

The location was really convenient. The SkyBus stop is across the road from the hotel, making it really easy to access when travelling with kids (I had concerns that carrying luggage plus chasing two active kids across Melbourne would be a challenge). The 96, 16 and 3a trams stop just down the street from the hotel. The bus to Chadstone (where Legoland is) stops nearby too. The St Kilda precinct has pretty much everything we needed – supermarkets, cafes/restaurants etc.

. It is very well located to restaurants and transport in St Kilda. Reception staff were at all times helpful and friendly. The deluxe rooms are large with king size beds. The rooms at the back of the hotel are quiet considering St Kilda is such a very busy place.

Being located in the heart of St Kilda, close to all the amazing eateries, beaches, public transport and much, much more makes exploring this wonderful city a breeze, especially when it is paired with our complimentary on-site parking.
Our parking is on a first in, first serve basis, although we do have 2 large car parking areas so we generally do not have an issue with parking which is great!

The Sky Bus to and from the Airport is also so very convenient whilst staying with us, the drop off/pick up location is right opposite our Hotel reception. Next time you can use our promo code COSMOSTK, which you then receive a further 5% off- Bargain!

Great place and the breakfast was lovely with make your own buffet and eggs of your choice made to order but definitely worthwhile getting. Had Nutri grain with fruit, English muffins and poached eggs both days. Room was nice and serviced well each day. Bed was amazing and so comfortable. Standard tv channels but free unlimited wifi which was super fast. I was on the road side and the noise did not notice. Bathroom and shower were big. No mini bar but they have in reception and not too badly priced.

The hotel was well located: walking distance from the beach, restaurants and cafes – including some amazing cake shops! It was also perfect for getting on a tram that took us straight into the centre of Melbourne.

The beach area at St Kilda is lovely, and it was good to be able to stay there and yet still have the.centre of Melbourne at easy reach. We actually saw penguins on the beach too!

Central to busy St Kilda shops cake shops and buzzing atmosphere. Easy transport links with trams right outside the hotel to city and sports events and airport.

Being in the heart of St Kilda close to all the famous restaurants, cafes & bars along with all those amazing cake shops you won’t want to leave!

The location of the Blackham was great as it was just a short tram trip into all of these locations and tram stops just on the corner.

We got a very reasonably priced room with a balcony and were very impressed by our spacious room. Bedroom was in an alcove and then we had a big dining, lounge & kitchenette opening onto the large balcony overlooking St Kilda Rd. The room was spotless and the bed was one of the comfiest I have slept in at a hotel.

The hotel has an Italian restaurant and a French cafe attached to it. Breakfast is available at the cafe from the menu and is absolutely delicious with wonderful staff.

The hotel lobby is beautiful with lovely and accommodating staff. The rooms and balconies are large and spacious. King size bed very comfortable. Very clean and quiet. A short stroll to the city or catch the tram outside the door. Be sure not to miss breakfast at the French Wine Cafe downstairs. Very reasonably priced.

We had a balcony suite on a high level which had a large room, kitchenette, good bed, balcony, bath (only certain rooms have a bath) and part view out to Albert Park.
We like walking and walked everywhere: to town and Federation Square along St Kilda Rd and past the National Gallery (30 mins), to Toorak Rd shops, to Prahran Market and Chapel St (through Fawkner Park), the War Memorial and Albert Park Lake.

The Italian and French eateries at the hotel were good – also liked the homestyle Italian meals at Cafe Rosco, nearby. And coffee and sweets in Melbourne is a must at any of the numerous coffee shops.

Staff were quick to come to rooms when needed for items, and front desk always staffed.

I loved all the artwork in the hotel. It is good value for the money, including breakfast. Breakfast was served by the French cafe in the ground floor and food and coffee was great including juice, fruits, yoghurt, very generous portion as well. The room was spacious with equipped kitchen utilities. We didn’t use them though. We asked for a quiet room, away from the main road and staff were very helpful. However, I still could hear car noises in the middle of the night. The location was not in the middle of the city centre but it takes only 10 mins by tram, very convenient. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Italian restaurant downstairs was good as well.

The room was spacious with a small balcony and nice view over both St Kilda Road and the golf course. Kitchen had all we would need but we didn’t use it much other than for tea and coffee. A highlight was the breakfast at the restaurant with great service. Limited options included in the package but more than enough for us. Great coffee too.

This is in the perfect spot for visitors to Melbourne. Close to the free central tram system and the iconic Queen Victoria Market. The staff are generally very helpful and accommodating.

The hotel boast a courtyard but it’s only for selective suites so no outdoor space. The rooms are trendy, clean, well serviced but small for two people if staying like us for 7 nights, with not much hanging or cupboard space. Ideal for short stay.

The location was great, 1 block from the free CBD tram stop. The front desk was wonderful, very helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations, etc. Queen Victoria Market is 1/2 block away and the summer night market on Wednesday is a blast. Hard to choose which food stall to try!! We were in town during the Australian Open and Chinese New Year and the hotel staff handled everything smoothly and efficiently.

The Jasper (since the renovations are finished) all the room types are great value, well maintained, very clean, great amenities, fun modern style, and a very convenient location.

The two standouts for me though are the staff and the meals. The breakfasts in particular are outstanding, think nice cafe style, all a la carte, no buffets here.

Nice modern hotel with comfy bed and one of the best showers I’ve ever been in. Easy check in and out, fridge and tea making in room. Great location just across the street from Queen Victoria Market. Attached coffee shop but on a downtown street with many places to eat.

The room was very clean, bed was super comfortable, comfortable pillows, clean quality linen with comfy duvets, quality towels, hot shower, very very quiet room, air conditioning system was very quiet and easily to adjust, complimentary bottled water, clean bathroom and nice soaps.

4. Hotel Crown Promenade Melbourne 4* – LGBT Friendly Hotels Melbourne

Crown Promenade Melbourne
Crown Promenade Melbourne

Crown Promenade Hotel offers spacious rooms with views of Port Phillip Bay or the city and Yarra River. Guests have access to a restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool and fitness centre.

Each room at Crown Promenade Melbourne includes a luxury en suite bathroom, 42-inch flat-screen TV with cable channels and a minibar. High-speed Wi-Fi access is available.

Guests can work out in the fully-equipped fitness centre or relax beside the indoor swimming pool with views of the city skyline. Steam rooms and a masseuse are also available.

Relaxed, award-winning and thoroughly modern, Melbourne’s Crown Promenade offers you a fresh perspective on how good a hotel can be. Located in the heart of the action – Melbourne’s vibrant Southbank entertainment precinct and directly linked to the exciting Crown Entertainment Complex, Crown Promenade is also close to the CBD, the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and the city’s most famous arts and sporting facilities. Eat and drink in style at Mesh restaurant or Tonic Bar, relax by the pool or take a walk to the 24 hour action of Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment Complex. Sleep, eat, work or play – you can do it all in style at Crown Promenade.

This hotel is part of the Crown complex on the south bank of the Yarra. We had a King Corner Room on the 23rd floor. The views were magnificent. The room itself was well appointed and when freak weather caused a minor leak in the shower the hotel dealt with us perfectly. The breakfast buffet is extensive and has a great range of dishes.

The location is good in terms of easy access to Flinders Street station, trams, busses and river cruises.

Excellent service from the moment you arrive and an immaculate room with a view. The pool and gym are fantastic and never too busy. It is all made even better with the fact that Crown promenade is easy walking distance to shops and restaurants being right on South bank.

Location is perfect with easy access via car, train or tram. Team stops directly out front of hotel. Walking distance to south bank offering plenty choice for dining out. In opposite direction you can walk to DFO (direct factory outlet) for clothes shopping & follow river walkway to Docklands.

Room stayed in gas just been renovated to an excellent standard. Very spacious & quiet for good nights sleep.

I was amazed at how beautiful the hotel was! Everything was clean and well kept! The views from the room were stunning and the infinity edge pool was a nice treat! It is located right near the canal in South Bank and an easy walk to lots of places!

This is a modern hotel with excellent facilities.

The Hotel itself is relaxing and peaceful which is a nice retreat from the brash and noisy area outside.

The swimming pool and gym, plus sun beds, sauna, etc on the 3rd floor is a great place to unwind after a hard days sightseeing, especially in the warm weather (we stayed in November during a hot and sticky few days).

All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and couldn’t do enough to help.

The Hotel is part of a large entertainment complex, including a casino and cinema, and 2 other Crown properties, restaurants, food court and high end shops. Tip – many restaurants do special offers. We eat at the Pizza and Pasta place near the casino and had 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine for $30 Australian.

Just down the road in the Docklands area, there were other restaurants with similar offers.

Accessing North of the Yarra River is easy by walking over the bridge. The Yarra River offers river cruises, walks, cycling, etc. The Hotel is very well situated for all these activities.

The Crown Promenade is one of 2 sister hotels located in the Crown Complex on the south bank of the Yarra River in Melbourne. The complex contains shopping and a casino on the lower floor as well as a range of excellent restaurants. The hotel is very well situated for the free tram system for sightseeing, the shopping centre, and local bars on the Southbank.

I stayed in a room on the 20th floor with panoramic views of the city centre and the Yarra River. The rooms are very well appointed with all the amenities a guest would expect of this class of hotel. Tea and coffee making; bathrobes, room service menu, slippers, toiletries, ironing facilities, a massive tv dominating one wall, a massive bed on the other side of a large room with panoramic Windows and a large bathroom with a power shower to die for. there is also a bedside radio with USB docking.

The hotel is clean, quiet and in a very convenient location near the Southern cross terminus. Good breakfast included in our rate … Continental but including scrambled eggs and baked beans. Room is a good size. WiFi is OK but not spectacular.

Fantastic location in the free tram zone, on the doorstep of Docklands, supermarket and shopping centre across the road, Southern Cross Station 100 metres away and Queen Vic Markets, Flagstaff Gardens and all that the CBD has to offer within walking distance.

Hotel itself is nothing fancy but clean and decently appointed. Room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. Pool was excellent.
