Lesbiangaybisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.

U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in the U.S. state of Florida may face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Same-sex sexual activity became legal in the state after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Lawrence v. Texas on June 26, 2003, and same-sex marriage has been legal in the state since January 6, 2015.
Minnesota is frequently referred to as one of the United States’ most LGBTfriendly states. Though legislation outlawing same-sex sexual activity remains on the books, it has not been enforced since 2001 when the state Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional.
Minneapolis has a long history of being a  gay friendly town and in downtown we can find a few gay friendly bars as well as Gay 90’s Minneapolis or eagleBOLTbar & The Saloon are the most famous gay bars in Minneapolis, MN.

Hotel is at the south end of the Nicollet Mall. There is a lot to do in the downtown area. You can rent a bike or scooter or Uber to get around easily. I was in town for a wedding so I was busy, but had some free time at night.

The hotel is nice. Rooms are clean. My room was oddly shaped and small, but big enough. I had an east facing room, which was fine. The morning sun heated it up a lot. I had to keep the curtains closed in the mornings. The little air conditioner couldn’t keep up. The bedding was clean and the towels were normal hotel towels. The pillows looked amazing, but my only complaint. They compressed down to a half inch thick with my head on them. I had to stack three to be comfortable. The bathrooms were updated and modern. The tub had a liner in it that was bubbled up. Kind of a cheap renovation, rather than replacing the tub. Otherwise, it was nice.

I ate breakfast here one morning. It was good, but I preferred a place down the street, “Eggies.” I made the mistake of ordering a Coors light bottle at the hotel bar- $7.38! I was shocked later to see the “Happy Hour” sign for $7 beers. They are regular sized 16 ounce beers. Needless to say I didn’t drink a lot here. They did have a great selection of beers on tap. I just couldn’t make myself stay at the hotel bar when so much action was occurring out on the mall. And, yeah, the price. Other than that I was thoroughly happy with my stay.

A 22-story high hotel with a history of excellence, Loews Minneapolis Hotel is located at the confluence of business, theatre, and entertainment districts. We are connected by Skyway to the entire shopping and business district. Our rooms are equipped with high tech-high fashion design with plasma TVs, handcrafted headboards, rain showers in bath – Opposite Target Center.

Located right across the street from Target Field and close to many fun and interesting places. Were able to walk to stage theaters, dining places, shopping malls, even the gay bars are easy to access. There is truly something for everyone!

This is our first time staying at a Loews hotel and it was very comfortable and this location is close to many pubs, restaurants and sports venues. The rooms have a modern decor and feel. The bed and pillows were comfortable and there is a nice size desk space and plenty of outlets throughout the room. The little chair in the room was not really a man size chair, but at least there was one.

The bathroom sink area was a little lacking on counter space but the shower area was very roomy. There was also a blow dryer that was actually powerful which doesn’t happen often in hotels. We have spent a few nights having a drink in the Releve bar and they have a great cocktail selection and comfortable atmosphere. The valet staff are hard working and open doors for you and have happy dispositions.

Just a couple blocks from the light rail station makes this a great spot for those flying in from out of town. You are linked to the skywalk so you can head out shopping conveniently during your stay. The desk staff, concierge, and bellmen are extremely friendly and helpful — among the nicest I’ve encountered. The décor is a little quirky and quite modern and would appeal to many. Some of the artwork not necessarily providing the high end impact you would expect, particularly in the conference rooms, but otherwise well done.

Rooms seem geared toward business traveler with enough outlets for charging and plenty of lights and mirrors. Fancy shower system incl handheld option is a nice feature, but you may get blasted with cold water when switching from one function to another. Didn’t see much focus on recycling or energy conservation here. If you are accustomed to a memory foam mattress or extra soft, you will have trouble sleeping on their beds which are described as pillow top, but have very little give. You can try sleeping on top of the heavy comforter as a work-around. Room décor very modern with lots of gray tones — feels current.

Not a long walk to Walgreens or the flagship Target Store where you could pick up a couple bottles of water vs. paying $9 each for the Voss water in the room. Directly across from Target stadium. Great Irish Bar (Kierans) attached worth checking out.

Minneapolis has plenty of Asian restaurants. So when you’re here, be sure to check out popular spots like Que Viet Village House, Sushi Tango, and Quang Restaurant, which are serving up some great dishes.

Minneapolis is also known for some great architectural buildings, including U.S. Bank Stadium, Foshay Tower, and Basilica of St. Mary, which are not too far from AC Hotel Minneapolis Downtown.

My partner and I visited MPLS for the first time this last weekend and stayed at this property. The hotel itself was very nice. Our room was clean and simple and we loved the rainfall shower. Everything was exactly like the pictures on other reviews.

Also, right across the street was the Gay 90s club. This place was very run down and dirty and not well kept at all. Similar bars and strip clubs next to the club were not maintained well and you could tell you were in a sketchy part of downtown.

While walking to dinner one of the nights a gentleman was begging for food and money, and several people hanging outside on the streets were smoking weed and appeared a little rough around the edges. Definitely not something you’d want to deal with on a romantic night out with your other half.

I’d probably stay here again once I know the neighborhood was cleaned up a bit and various construction projects were complete. The hotel was by far the nicest hotel on the street and it’s a good sign of what’s to come for that neighborhood.

The hotel itself is very nice inside. Our room was very clean with sleek modern designs. Staff were friendly and helpful. The parking is not nearly as complicated as other reviews have made it out to be. The garage is located right behind the hotel on 4th Street (there is a sign for AC hotel so you really can’t miss it) and you access the hotel from the third floor of the parking garage (again, there are visible signs for this as well) which turns into the second floor of the hotel. Easy walk even with luggage. Take your parking ticket with you to check in and they convert it to a QR code on your phone to use to get in and out.

Everything was great except for one problem which I did not use in factoring in my overall rating because it is not the hotel’s fault – the very rough crowd that seems to hang out without purpose across the street from the hotel. I’m not one of those scared tourists from the suburbs who freak out if a homeless person asks for spare change and then declare the area as “unsafe”. I’ve lived in downtown areas of several large cities in my life including downtown Minneapolis for many years so I know that the area by the Gay 90’s has had problems over the years years but it’s even worse now than when I lived there.

It is my hope that the AC Hotel and maybe other local businesses like the Gay 90’s will put some pressure on the city to clean this area up because it has to hurt their business. We really liked the hotel itself but will definitely not choose this property when we come back again next year just because of the rough crowd that hangs out in the area.

We had a corner room- super roomy and comfortable. Perfect for entertaining a friend who stayed in a neighboring hotel. The bathroom was luxurious with a large shower (no tub) and a waterfall shower head above and a typical wall mount that is adjustable. Loved the Korres bathroom products.

A little noisy because our corner room overlooked the Gay 90’s but there are instructions for a “Sleep Channel” on the one-sheet for the hotel. We fell asleep to rain and it did a good job of drowning out the traffic below. Breakfast available for $16.

Location is ideal for events, although worth noting that the Gay 90s bar and a strip bar across the street. Hotel was very secure. Room was plenty big, bed and pillows comfortable, lots of lamps and outlets, heat worked well, bathroom was cool too. Pictures on website are accurate. Rainfall shower head with all glass and marble enclosure.

Excellent location in the heart of the city–close to shopping, theatre, night live, gay clubs, and museums. The one draw back is that the neighborhood is being gentrified with riff-raff surrounding the perimeter. Security is good with key accessible lobby door, cameras, and neighborhood policing.

Parking is pricey ($28/night), but on the weekend you can find better deals on the parking ramps ($3 to $6/Weekend).

The lobby is nicely designed with classic modern lines, seating, and artwork. You can chill in seval lounge areas and review the art books or meet at the community conference and computer table.

The hotel rooms are plain but comfortable with modern lighting, wall covering, and fixtures. I liked the floor was not carpeted. One minus is the room window. It does not block out enough of the street noise. You can motorcycles from the street, and I was on the 8th floor.

The bathroom is particularly lovely with rain shower overhead plus a traditional hand shower head with enough room in the space for 2 people. The bath products too are nice with wonderfully smelling hand soap in the shape of a small ball. The one thing I would have done differently is a slow closing toilet lid, though I do like the square shape.

The tapas at the bar are good. One in particular I enjoyed was the risotto; it didn’t look good on the plate, but the flavor was perfection! Breakfast too is nice with European flare; the one minus is the food on the weekend is not refilled quickly enough.

I would stay here again. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. The vibe is laid back but professionally. And it doesn’t hurt that a Whole Foods Market is down one block.

This is a unique and well design hotel at downtown. There are lots of restaurants, metro rail and clubs such as Gay 90’s nearby. The restrooms are a true dream, and terrific customer services at front desk, bar and housekeeper staff. Keep up the excellent job.

This hotel is refreshing, the staff is A+++ and the location is perfect- speaking of location, this is in the center of nightclubs and gay bars – I LOVE IT, but then again, the location my not be for everyone. If you want first class service and a reasonable price – The AC Marriott is for you.
