Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Cyprus may face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal in Cyprus, and civil unions which grant several of the rights and benefits of marriage have been legal since December 2015.
Traditionally, the socially conservative Greek Orthodox Church has had significant influence over public opinion and politics regarding LGBT rights. However, ever since Cyprus sought membership in the European Union, it had to change its human rights legislation, including its laws regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. Attitudes towards members of the LGBT community are evolving and becoming increasingly more accepting and tolerant.
Paphos has a long history of being a gay friendly resort and in downtown we can find a few gay friendly bars as well as Different Bar is the most famous gay bar in Paphos, Cyprus.

The hotel is immaculate- the outside swimming pool is 65 metres, with abundance of sun beds, we thoroughly enjoyed for the mind, body and soul the chilled refreshing Spa pool for cooling down and escaping the sun, and the sauna and steam room, and Beauty Therapists.
We didn’t utilise the gym, although the hotel had only recently opened with new equipment delivered during our stay.
The spacious rooms are well laid out, super comfy beds, wonderful shower, contemporarily decorated with an amazing sea view, which we paid extra for as an upgrade at the time of booking.
Short taxi ride from the airport (or bus ride).
Location is 1.5 miles from the centre of Paphos, which has a lovely Coastline pathway to Paphos and the Harbour approx 30-40 mins walk, the bus stop stops right outside the front of the hotel– for 1.5 euros one way (if you don’t fancy walking home you use catch the bus back), or 5 euros for 24 hours travel.
We enjoyed the Japanese and Greek Restaurants at the Louis Ivi Mare sling with the themed buffet restaurant food, and choices, half board plus included one beverage with your evening meal – wine, beer or soft drink.
The staff exceeded our expectations, very friendly and attentive and the Hotel Manager Christos and Thanasis ensured their team make this hotel a perfect holiday.
The entertainment is subtle which is what we enjoy and reasons for choosing the Hotel, Suite48 is a nearby trendy bar/restaurant a 10-15 minute walk away for an evening drink.
Nearby beaches and water park within walking distance or catch the bus to Paphos and then take a second bus to Coral Bay. We found Sandy beach – a lovely small quiet beach with great waves.
Firstly, the hotel is brand new and very close to the airport. The staff are all amazing, so friendly and helpful with queries and requests. The hotel is very clean and beautifully designed. Certainly would suggest booking ‘sea view’ as this is a great view of the pool and sea from the balcony whereas the other side is just a view of the road🤣. I wish that we had the budget to spend on a room with balcony hot tub but we decided to spend the cash on food instead.
The main feature of this wonderful hotel is clearly the enormous pool. For some reason it seemed to be constantly empty, i don’t recall there being more than 7 or 8 people in it at any one time. For me, this was perfect. Also, there was no hassle choosing a sunlounger by the pool to relax on, no matter what time of the day. The Jacuzzi part of the pool is also fantastic, and so relaxing. I definitely am coming back to Ivi Mare just for this feature.
We had the breakfast only package. Breakfast was perfect with everything that you would expect from a 5* hotel. For dinner we would take the (30 minute) stroll along the waterfront to the harbour where there are many restaurants to choose from. We did eat at the hotel’s Japanese restaurant (there are 3 to choose from) on one night there and found the food to be nearly perfect. The only downside is that the size of the sushi was too big😆

Nowhere could be better sited or suited to discover Paphos and western Cyprus. In every way a hotel experience I shall never forget.
The property was built in 1898 in Paphos Old Town and the restaurant is situated in the courtyard, which provides a lovely setting. There is a good selection of starters, main courses and desserts and the portion size is very generous. All of the courses that we had were delicious and ranged from salads, kebabs and octopus. There is music on a Friday night. We thought that the staff and service were first class and the prices very reasonable for such a lovely setting.
A really beautiful, cosy, clean, newly renovated small place with mediterranean vibes. Really friendly owners and staff. You can relax and have a nice time just sitting in your beautiful home garden or on the cosy rooftop. In the evenings a restaurant with flavorus meals is opened (Mamma’s Bistro) the outdoor lights are beautifully lit up and nice smooth music is playing. A really relaxing and beautiful quiet place to enjoy. Next to the many restaurants and the old town. A 30 min walk to the Lighthouse beach.
Great atmosphere with good food and nice music in the evening. Breakfast was fantastic and the bed is comfortable. The owners are very friendly and polite! The bus station is very very close to the accommodation.
Paphos old centre has been recently renovated. This hidden place with the lovely serene garden is a place not to be missed. Mrs Yioula – the owner’s wife cooks all meals. Amazing gourmet dishes; we had pork steaks with cheese and truffle; and queils and quince with crushed capers of Syros island.
The place also offers limited rooms which face the inner yard.
