1. Grand Hotel Portoroz 4* – Terme & Wellness LifeClass – Gay Friendly Hotels Portoroz

Grand Hotel Portoroz
Grand Hotel Portoroz

Situated in the heart of the seaside resort Portoroz, Grand Hotel is an exclusive 4-star superior property with a genuine Mediterranean flair with comfortable and well-appointed accommodation. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

Hotel Portoroz’s Cafe Central serves homemade pastry and ice-cream, cocktails and fine cigars.

An essential part of the Grand Hotel Portorož is the Terme & Wellness LifeClass Spa featuring a complex of indoor swimming pools with thermo-mineral water, a spacious sun terrace and superb wellness centres.

Grand Hotel Portorož is a hotel with an exclusive offer in the centre of Portorož, just a stone’s throw away from the sea. It features renovated rooms that combine elegance, tradition of salt panning and the history of Piran, a prestigious private beach, the sunny terrace, top quality Mediterranean gastronomy and experienced staff with traditional Mediterranean hospitality. The hotel is directly connected with the Terme Portorož that offers the most comprehensive spa, medical and wellness offer in Europe.

Virtually everything we came across in the hotel met our expectations. The sea view room was spacious and comfortable and once the balcony windows were closed at night the noise from across the road was a distant memory. One aspect which could be improved is the furniture on the balcony. Whilst it was nice to have somewhere to sit and look out over the sea the chairs were uncomfortable. Some cushions would have been adequate.

The food in the buffet restaurant was the best we encountered on our trip although it could, at times, have been hotter, The choice at breakfast was more than sufficient and made for a good start to the day.

Hotel is very modern inside, everything is in good condition, so it is a pleasure to be there. Rooms are very big and clean. View from the rooms is very nice (sea and mountains), the town is quite so you do not hear the noise while sitting on the balcony. Food from a room service is tasty (if you are lazy to go somewhere just order it). The staff is polite and helpful.

The hotel has 2 swimming pools with thermal water, guests of the hotel can use it for free. Also a doctor can suggest you some extra procedures and treatments (doctor visit and extra treatments are not free).

This was a lovely hotel, the rooms were great, nice balcony and good bathroom. Private beach was good and well managed too, service at the bar was great. The breakfast was amazing, however the dinners were not 5 star, the food was good but only if you arrived early as it was all buffet, so arriving more than 1 hour after opening time the food was dry and overheated and the choice was minimal.

his is a hotel situated in a great location just a very short walk from the water’s edge. Our room was quite large with a reasonable sized bathroom. Some toiletries were provided. The bed was comfortable and we had a large window though this only looked out onto the roof of the dining area. There is a very good sun terrace, but the pool was empty. The staff were very reserved and not really that friendly. The breakfast was very good and the evening meal quite acceptable.

The hotel is situated on the sea front, mid town and with excellent views of the coast and hills beyond. The large airy reception and lounge area with inside coffee and cake bar provide an impressive welcome to the hotel. The booking in experience by friendly and very good English speaking staff is easy and the sea view room we had booked very clean and ample facilities inside plus a very comfortable bed.

The buffet dining suited us and at both breakfast and dinner the food was varied and of a very satisfactory standard but typical of the area, maybe not as hot as English clients would be used too.
The indoor pool and spa treatment areas were exemplary and all pools salt water and minerals with resident staff to deliver the large array of treatments available plus access to three other adjacent spa hotels.

This hotel is a good base for exploring the area, local transport efficient and cheap. The prices although in the Euro are far cheaper for dining out than other countries in the EU. Will be returning here again and the whole experience of Slovenia was enjoyable and relaxing even in changeable weather.

2. Barbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Portoroz Piran

Barbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa
Barbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa

Featuring a private beachBarbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa is located in the most beautiful, greenest and quietest part of the Slovenian coast, directly on the seaside.

It is situated on the bay between the old town of Piran and Strunjan, about a 5-minute drive from Portoroz, which boasts casinos, restaurants and a marina. The Croatian and Italian borders are about 15 km away from the hotel.

Barbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa features comfortably equipped rooms with sea view. The restaurant is open all day and serves a wide range of excellent dishes.

Barbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa is bathing in the greenest bay of the Slovenian cost. Located between the Adriatic Sea and the only lake in Slovenia where both fresh and salt water combine, it offers a unique starting point in all seasons of the year. Piran is only a few minutes’ walk by the sea. In summer guests can indulge in a spacious beach with deckchairs, sun umbrellas and cabanas, and in cooler months they warm up in Wellness Barbara.

Hotel is good, has a nice location about 15 – 20 minute walk along the sea into Piran. Nice to be away from town a bit and be able to walk in / out with ease. Staff was kind and helpful and spa area was nice. There is parking for 5 euros a night and there are some areas on and near the property where you can swim in the sea.

The Barbara Piran Beach Hotel & Spa scores high on the relax scale. Although you can reach the beautiful city center of Piran by foot in about 10 minutes, walking alongside a stunningly beautiful seaside walk – the Hotel itself is absolutely quiet and relaxing. Actually far too good in service to only have 3 stars.

The room is bright and cool, and the balcony is brilliant for drying towels etc after a day by the sea. The hotel has a private section of the beach with recliners but the public section wasn’t that busy anyway when I stayed so no worries about crowding.

Loved the thoughtful touches to the stay such as the dried fruits, toiletries and torches, and the staff are so friendly and chatty. The breakfast is good and parking (€5 per day and the staff do the parking for you) is headache-free. A fantastically situated hotel for a gorgeous sea view, and the walk to Piran is about 20 minutes away. A taxi from the square back to the hotel after midnight costs around €20. There is a shuttle bus that goes to Barbara and the sister hotel  as well.

The rooms had a view on the Adriatic Sea, you could see the cruise ships approaching Venice. The breakfast was great, the other meals too, the setting and relaxed atmosphere. From the hotel you can immediately enter the sea and swim.

We had a standard size room on the second floor with balcony, sea views etc and reasonably efficient air con. Wifi was excellent.

The breakfast was very good with cereals, plenty of fresh fruit and interesting breads with seating outside.

There were free sunbeds and parasols on the hard landscaped ‘beach’ with easy access to the sea down two sets of steps. Towels were provided as well. We noticed that non residents were using the area and taking up sunbeds as there was no restriction on access or control. Sea swimming was a excellent if occasionally rather choppy. There is a good beach bar which provided drinks in plastic containers for use on the ‘beach’.
