1. Hotel Jadran Rijeka 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Rijeka

Hotel Jadran
Hotel Jadran

Hotel Jadran is situated on the coast 1 km from the centre of Rijeka, boasting simply decorated accommodation mostly with a balcony and views of the Kvarner Bay. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

Some of the rooms even have an entire external glass wall. They are painted in warm and earthy colours, have harmoniously furnished bathrooms and other modern facilities.

At the reception of the Jadran you can benefit from services like postal and telecommunication services, purchasing daily press and journals and others.

The spacious restaurant is separated from the sea only by glass walls, serving international and typical Mediterranean cuisine.

Hotel Jadran is situated in the residential part of the city of Rijeka. Its unique position and translucent architecture have made this hotel a popular place to stay at, for almost a century. Most of its 66 nicely furnished single and double rooms and 3 luxurious apartments are with a balcony and a beautiful view of the sea. Staying at this hotel provides a unique atmosphere of the old Mediterranean but with all modern facilities for tourists and business guests. Just one look at the sea through its glass walls is enough to make a guest attached to the Adriatic forever. Not only that the sea is omnipresent but participates in hotel’s life, altering its colours and moods, changing the atmosphere of the hotel.

Hotel Jadran is in a great location. Just on the shore of the most beautiful sea in the world, my beautiful Adriatic sea. When you enter the room, and even better when you woke up in the morning the gorgeous view is waiting you. Just super nice. Hotel is clean, rooms are also clean, and breakfast is great. On the down side, there is no enough parking space. There is a small parking place by the hotel. If it is full you can park in the one-way street where the hotel is. There is no swimming pool, but during the summer time or on the worm spring and autumn day you can be on hotels private beach.

The hotel has a boutique feel and the front desk staff are incredibly helpful. And the view can’t be beat, so if you can, request a view facing the sea, and enjoy the sunsets at night, or sit by the Adriatic while you enjoy your coffee in the morning.

The rooms are comfortable, not too fancy, but well appointed, and from this location, you can drive an hour in almost any direction and visit a castle, a cave, a beach, a medieval city, or just go shopping in town and enjoy the city itself. There is a castle on the hill called Trsat, and it is a nice walk and has great nearby shops, cafes and bars to see as well. The hotel is very quiet too, which is always a plus if you need a good night’s rest.

Rooms are a reasonable size with good, comfortable bedding. Bathroom is compact, but quite suitable, and has good water pressure. Breakfast can be eaten inside the dining room or out on the hotel terrace overlooking the ocean. Dinner is also served in the same restaurant. The building is an old traditional style seaside villa which has been completely restored and turned into a modern hotel. Some rooms face the road, but for the small amount extra, go for the sea view balcony rooms.

These rooms have good sized balconies, with table and chairs, that are cantilevered out over the ocean, giving the impression, from inside the rooms, that you are on a cruise ship with a balcony cabin. The hotel is built right on the rock face at the edge of the ocean. Limited free parking is available on site and the free wifi is generally good. The hotel is located about 2-3km out from the centre of Rijeka, so is best suited to those travelling with a car. The shipping port is located about 300m from the hotel, but noise is minimal. The rooms are well sound proofed. We loved staying at this hotel and using it as a base to do day trips to other nearby towns along the Croatian coast. We would be happy to stay here again.

2. Hotel Bonavia Plava Laguna 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Rijeka

Hotel Bonavia Plava Laguna
Hotel Bonavia Plava Laguna

With a tradition dating back to the 1876, this completely refurbished four-star Grand Hotel Bonavia enjoys a central location in Rijeka just a few steps from the sea and the vivid Corso Promenade. It offers elegantly furnished interiors with free WiFi and air conditioning. The hotel also comprises a Fine Dining Restaurant Kamov, Caffe Dante and the Fitness & Wellness Centre Art of Touch.

All rooms and suits have a telephone, an LCD TV with programs in four languages, Pay TV, safe and a minibar. The bathroom with shower or a bathtub

include a hairdryer and free toiletries. Room service, ironing service and dry cleaning are provided as well.

Guests can use the Fitness centre and the Relaxation Zone with saunas free of charge.

Perfectly located in the heart of Rijeka, right on the Korzo, and 5 minutes walk away from the port with its trendy bars, Bonavia is the best hotel in Rijeka for business and weekend getaways. All museums, interesting churches and monuments worth seeing are at a walking distance.

Bonavia is a hotel with over 140 years long tradition and whether you’ve come for business or pleasure, you’ll love your comfy room, with great Wi Fi and comfortable beds with hard mattresses. Bathrooms are snug, but well kept and spotless. If you can, choose a room with a balcony on the upper floors, as the sea view alone is worth it and you get a nice seating area outside to enjoy the sunsets. Gym is intimate, with a nice and clean wellness area, saunas and massages.

Bonavia is currently probably the most active and renowned hotel in Rijeka but I booked it only because one reason – its location. Not from perspective of its excellent central location literally overlooking main pedestrian zone, but because I had some work to do nearby. Still, its location is exceptional and that’s surely unbeatable. All other things – staff, services, room, sleeping quality, bathroom… – are pretty correct but nothing special, and you may either focus on them and spoil your stay, or just let it go and enjoy so many positive aspects of Rijeka and this urban landmark.

Location of the hotel is really amazing. It is located less than 100m from Rijeka’s main pedestrian zone, Korzo, close to some good pubs, restaurants and coffee bars. Walking distance from the hotel are also the Old Town, several interesting museums and the waterfront. One of the museums, the Modern Gallery is literally across the street from the hotel. The staff, especially on the reception, was very friendly and helpful. Less so in the restaurant.

Façade of the hotel has clearly been renovated several years ago and it looks quite modern. The interior of the hotel, however, although also probably renovated at some point, still has some sort of archaic, maybe even socialist feel around it. The room was quite small and had a bit stale smell in it. The bathroom, although very clean looked it could use some renovating. Overall, the room really wasn’t bad, but could use some face-lift and refurbishing.

The hotel has a bountiful buffet breakfast. Although plentiful, it does kinda remind (with selection and quality of items on offer) of outdated, socialist period hotel buffets.
Hotel also has a sauna and a massage treatment can be arranged. There are also some nice, unique souvenirs available for purchase in the main lobby of the hotel.

3. Hotel Continental Rijeka 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Rijeka

Hotel Continental Rijeka
Hotel Continental Rijeka

Built in 1888 and now a protected cultural monument, Hotel Continental is seen by many as the very symbol of the city of Rijeka. The property provides an on-site restaurant and a bar.

The hotel offers nicely furnished air-conditioned rooms with dark wood furniture and a warm décor. Each room comes with satellite TV and a desk. The private bathrooms are fitted with a bath or a shower.

The restaurant serves delicious national and international cuisine and the hotel bar features an outdoor terrace.

The construction was initiated and funded by Hinko Bačić, a mayor of Sušak, and designed by Mate Glavan, the first trained architect born in Sušak. The hotel was built from 1885 to 1888. When opened, Continental has rapidly gained popularity among residents of Sušak because of its design, facilities and excellent position. The hotel was renovated in 2008 and now it is a three stars hotel. Rooms: Since renovating, the hotel has 65 rooms and 4 suites most of which are offering a great view on the river Rječina and the old town centre.

A decent three star hotel in an old building, very beautiful from the outside, but the interior reminds that a renovation is due. The corridor floor leading to our room in the 1st floor was quite bumpy under the carpet and in the room there were wall corners with peeling paint, not very eye-catching, but if you bow to plug in the phone charger, you definitely notice it.

The breakfast was very good, the reception staff was friendly and helpful.
In front of the hotel there’s a channel quay which is popular among the locals, so it might become bit noisy in the evening, the place was at rest around midnight, though, so not a big deal.

This is a traditional town centre hotel that has an old world charm about it. It may have been built many years ago but has modern public rooms and bedrooms.

All the staff were very welcoming and we were well looked after. The room was clean and wifi reception was good. The bedroom could have done with some brighter lights but that is only a minor request.

Location is good as the hotel is close to both the shopping area and seafront. There is a glass restaurant area attached to the front of the hotel which is where we had a very enjoyable evening meal. Breakfast was one of the best we have had on this trip.
