Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.
U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

I have been staying at the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester for over ten years. It is a consistently positive experience – from booking to departure. Staff is genuinely polite and caring and strives to accommodate every need. The concierge floor is “over the top” from comfort and service.
The Towers is a separate hotel wing of the Kahler Grand. It was handsomely remodeled maybe five years ago. The Towers is accessed by room card in the elevator and is concierge-based. The decor is transitional, not heavy and old but also not stark and cold contemporary. We’ve stayed several times. It is a sweet experience, convenient to the Mayo Clinic, and consistent from stay to stay. Great staff from management to housekeepers. Highly recommended.
This is “the” place to stay in Rochester. It is a bit pricey, but worth every dollar. The Kahler Towers is very very comfortable and the staff is exceptionally accommodating.

I most appreciated the evening social hour with free appetizers and drinks. While we were there this was held 6-7:30 Mon-Wed. There was also a nice full breakfast each morning.
Staff were friendly and accommodating. Bed very comfortable. Location of the hotel is approximately two blocks walking from Mayo Clinic. You can walk outside or underground in what they call “the subway”. Please note there are no subway cars/shuttles in this subway, it is a walking area only.
The staff is great and very friendly. Anna at the front desk was consistently helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. She was able to direct me when I needed help and extend my stay when circumstance changed. Big shout out to her.The room was very nice. Large space with full kitchen as you expect at residence inn. The hotel was quiet and the beds very comfortable. Plenty of space to store what I needed. Housekeeping kept it clean and well supplied.
A really nice morning breakfast, “subway” access to the Mayo Clinic (about a 5 minute walk inside away from the weather), and a great staff. I always use the complimentary grocery shopping service to take advantage of the suite’s kitchen and a laundry room on site is a definite plus! Other parties staying there also commented within my hearing that this was a great place to stay. The bed is very comfortable, the rooms clean, all the basics plus.

The Aspen Suites is great choice for those looking for a suite for an extended stay. The rooms were large, nicely decorated and comfortable. My room had a comfortable Queen bed, large couch, easy chair, as well as a nice size kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, range, and dishwasher.
Every staff member I encountered couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant. The complimentary breakfast was so-so but my expectations are never high for hotel freebies. The dining/waiting area is warm and comfortable.
This is probably the most convenient, certainly to the Francis building. The underground parking would be a great plus in the snowy icy months. There is actually a garage door and it is enclosed which would make it much more comfortable!
The room is very nice with sleeping quarters separate and behind a door, and the kitchen is actually stocked with plates, silverware etc. There is a two burner stove and a full-size refrigerator, coffee pot and microwave. The breakfast is pretty much the same as Springhill suites. But Springhill Suites, while it has a kitchen sink microwave and refrigerator, does not have plates/glasses, etc. or a stove. I don’t think anybody can out do the Springhill Suites staff on Minnesota nice though, they are some awfully nice people!
Bottom line, Aspen costs more than competitors, nicer rooms/full kitchenette than the competitors; climate controlled parking, no frequent flier program, right across street from Francis bldg.
