Santiago de Compostela is the capital of northwest Spain’s Galicia region. It’s known as the culmination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, and the alleged burial site of the Biblical apostle St. James. A few gay friendly hotels Santiago de Compostela are available to be booked online. His remains reputedly lie within the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, consecrated in 1211, whose elaborately carved stone facades open onto grand plazas within the medieval walls of the old town.
Galicia is an autonomous community of Spain, located in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula, whose roots intersect with those of Portugal. The Celtic origins and subsequent Roman, Visigothic and Christian influences are reflected decisively in their culture. The mysticism of this region and the marked imprint of religion are everywhere, and the “Way of St. James” (“Camiño de Santiago”) is one of the paths chosen by the Christian pilgrims. Also in the Galician architecture one can appreciate the mixture of traces of the pre-Christian, Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Plateresque and contemporary era. Another of the high points are the fantastic landscapes that can be enjoyed in Galicia, as its mountains and rias that cut the land in huge cliffs. On the other hand, the Galician gastronomy offers typical dishes of the region with excellent fresh fish and seafood.

The all-day food puts it in a league of its own. At any time of the day or night one can go downstairs and have a drink and/or snack – just like at home.
Room
Absolutely gorgeous fit out . The bed was huge like 2 double beds put together . Gorgeous linens , extremely clean and comfortable .
Bathroom was quite big with a few amenities.
We really enjoyed our stay, lovely small hotel right beside the cathedral , fabulous location in the heart of the old city within walking distance of everything. We got the airport bus to Praza de Galicia and hotel is approx. 10 minutes walk from there. 3 euros each for fare. Hotel has a small beautifully presented reception , staff very friendly and helpful. There is an all day breakfast/canteen room which is handy but options for breakfast a little bit limited.
Our room was on 3rd floor , it was very compact , small amount of wardrobe space . Nice comfortable bed ,good tv , ac, safety deposit. We could see the cathedral from the window. Bathroom was fabulous , great double shower and very nicely decorated. We would have appreciated more toiletries and toilet roll though. Overall a great stay in lovely quiet property.
The hotel is lovely, beautifully designed and relaxing. The rooms are nice with incredibly comfortable beds! If you want to treat yourself after a long walking trip, definitely stay here. The 24-hour breakfast is so nice because it just gives you the option of just getting some coffee and toast whenever you want.
The city centre location is superb – on a narrow street, in a traffic-restricted zone, about 20m from the cathedral plaza. Taxis can drop-off/pick-up at the hotel door. The hotel has ~25 rooms, on four floors. Our room (404 on the 4th floor) was modern and well-equipped – comfortable bed, good shower, etc. It faced away from the cathedral and was very quiet – except for the cathedral clock chiming every 15 minutes!
The lift and the Wifi worked well. The cold buffet breakfast was the same every day and quite adequate. No eggs but good fruit juices, fresh fruit etc plus a coffee machine. The “breakfast” remained available 24/7 which was nice. A receptionist told me that the hotel is “always full” so booking as far in advance as possible seems advisable.

The property is in the historic heart of Compostela, in an area with traffic restrictions. Public parking is available nearby (La Salle). You can reach Praza do Obradoiro Square and the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in a 6-minute walk. Praza de Praterías Silversmith’s Square is 450 metres away.
San Miguel is excellently located in the old town of Santiago- we had actively considered a number of alternatives- parador, Pombal, Bonaval, but finally settled on San Miguel and very happy with the choice.
The room we stayed was spacious with a sizeable bathroom. Very good powerful shower over bath. The decor is simple and pleasant. The bed is comfy. The hotel is located in the old town, close enough to anywhere you want to be in Santiago, but it’s also quiet.
The Hotel San Miguel is amazing. Nice, but unremarkable (in an old town like Santiago) from the outside, the inside surprises with an almost luxurious interior.
Facilities are high class, on par with 4 and 5* hotels. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated (no kitsch, just the right mix of neutral and furnished in style).
The location could not be better and it’s much cheaper than other hotels around that basically rip off tourists and pilgrims yearning for a bit (more) comfort after their pilgrimage.
A great boutique hotel; an historic building, renovated in minimalist style in the heart of Santiago. The position couldn’t be better ; opposite the Martino Piñeiro church but in a quiet corner. The front rooms enjoy a view of the church but we had a superior room at the back with views of the beautiful garden. It was a very spacious room with a ” gallery ” – this is like an enclosed balcony with huge windows and a nice sitting corner-loved it. Coffee and tea making facilities would be welcomed in this kind of room.
The breakfast- served in an elegant room on the ground floor – leaves some space for improvement. I mean everything they offered was good quality, the cheese, the jamon, the cakes, but there weren’t any hot options or something like a Spanish tortilla.

Pleasant boutique hotel that underwent renovation recently. Very good location in the historic center, in a seven minutes walking distance from the Cathedral. The rooms are not spacious, but are convenient, quiet and the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is small, the washbasin is not very practical, but the shower is very good and the quality of the towels is great. The staff is super friendly.
Location is just on the edge of the old town but you can pull in a car almost to the door to unload your luggage which can be very difficult in other places in the old city. Everything is in walking distance and there is a large multi-storey car park just around the corner with a discount from the hotel.
Staff are great, breakfast is simple but adequate.
A welcome sight this little hotel was! Right on the last part of The Camino it is in the old town and in a historic lovely stone building. The rooms are lovely – do get a corner room! Looks out into the street with thick double shutters and windows which open.
The bathroom was perfect and the room comes with AC and a mini fridge. The receptionist was most helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was perfectly fine served by a lovely waitress. Totally recommend this establishment.

A nice quiet hotel without traffic noise and a peaceful rural like setting. Comfortable beds and our windows faced a private park-like setting which was very quiet and private. One of more enjoyable rooms in our travels through Northern Spain. A short 10 minute walk to the town center and the best part was walking along the nearby Rio Sarela River trail and walking downstream (away from town) on what I think was the Portuguese Santiago Camino.
he hotel is a 10 – 15 minute walk to the center of town (uphill on the way in and downhill back) but that puts it in a quiet neighborhood which is worth it to us. There are some great restaurants within a 5 minute walk that the hotel steered us to. The room was huge, absolutely quiet, great A/C. We found the front desk staff to be polite, accommodating and extremely helpful
The room was similar to the one in the Hotel Palacio de Santa Paula, Autograph Collection, in Granada, where we had been, in the past. It was in good condition, with good lighting provided by two windows, overlooking the garden, with a reasonable size, with a comfortable bed, allowing us a good quality sleep, and with a quiet air conditioning, offering the right temperature. The bathroom was large with two basins, tub and bidet.
The varied amenities provided included, even, anti-fatigue face cream, a detail that was a nice touch. There was Nespresso coffee and, most surprisingly, minibar, with water, soft drinks and beer, replenished daily, and free of charge, being, these amenities, included in the upgrade of the superior rooms. Pity was that there was no safe in the room, nor turndown service…
We had included buffet breakfast which had excellent natural orange juice, Spanish tortilla and great cold meats, with the remaining items being regular.
We dined twice in the hotel restaurant and we considered having been offered meals with typical Galician food, with excellent value for money.
The hotel has a cozy garden, a small indoor pool, a mini-gym and free parking. We emphasize the good performance of the hotel’s Wi-Fi, not found in many cases.
How much does a room costs at Hotel Palacio del Carmen?
Prices start 115$/night for Deluxe King Room. The Superior King Room with Garden View
is 136$/room per night with breakfast included- if coming on a honeymoon this is the perfect choice for gay couples.
