This was our second stay at Hotel Saugatuck (we have also stayed at the sister establishment Huron House) – we specifically chose the Sandpiper as it has windows on 2 sides which face the side garden and the front yard with a view of the lake. The attached porch is a real treat for reading, and watching sunsets.

We enjoyed our return to Salt of The Earth in Fennville, and our visit to the new restaurant Coast 236.

We have already discussed returning in the future – we love the privacy of this small hotel with the touches of a B&B. It’s unique features are particularly special during this time when getaways are best when they are closer to home, and where the accommodations provide for safety and a vacation escape.

Variety of rooms to choose from. All nicely decorated. breakfast delivered to your room and well presented. Walkable to the center of town. Hotel managers Amy and Joshua were very pleasant and accommodating to any concerns. It was obvious that they wanted to ensure a memorable and stress free stay for their guests.
I would suggest making the outdoor area behind the hotel, by the pond, a nice seating area for guests to enjoy. It looks as though it once served that purpose.

Having never stayed in Saugatuck before, we “randomly” decided to pick this hotel because of the pictures and location. The price was a little high, but we don’t mind spending more money on a nicer place. It was very lovely. Closer to town than we thought (walking distance) and just on the outside edge of the beautiful neighborhood. Although there was not a lot of interaction with staff members, they were friendly and attentive through text messaging, which was nice.

The room location of the hotel and the room itself were great. It was super clean. Small, but very functional and had everything you could need. The bed was SUPER comfortable (and big) and the shower and tub were amazing. Super nice touch with the daily desserts being delivered to your door as well as breakfast in the morning. I saw another person who commented on the hotel just placing food at your door, where we had a choice of three different options upon check-in.

I would highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay here again in the future.

Only hotel we stay at during the annual Venetian Festival. Walking distance to all shopsrestaurants and and the river. Clean, quaint, breakfast hits the spot. The pool is an added bonus. The staff is accommodating and friendly! Would recommend!

This is a great old inn with tons of charm and a great air of hospitality. Rooms are comfortable and the location is fantastic! Walk to shops and restaurants, and the innkeeper Catherine can help you find the best places…she is an institution in Saugatuck.

The Maplewood exceeded our expectations. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The staff and the owner are very welcoming! Our room was very cozy and the bed was super comfortable. Breakfast included a small buffet of fruit, pastries, juice and delicious coffee along with a hot breakfast if you chose.
You’re within walking distance of all the shops, bars, and restaurants that Saugatuck has to offer.

Oval Beach is minutes away……a must visit during the day and in the evening for sunset!

The staff at the hotel are all very friendly, personable, helpful and well informed about the area. They make good recommendations for points of interest and restaurants. Our room was very clean. The bathroom was also very clean though a little cramped if two people wanted to be in there at the same time. Breakfast is included. This day french toast and Canadian bacon was served, It was very tasty.
The hotel location is very convenient.

When you walk out the front door and turn right you pass a beautiful small wooded park and recreation area immediately adjacent to the hotel. It’s a very short walk to pass the park where you come to a cross street and on the other side of the street is another small wooded park with a few benches ideal for sitting in the shade on a hot day.You are now at the beginning of a quaint shopping stretch along Butler street. Lots of interesting and unusual shops.

You have access to the first park directly from the food service area of the hotel.

The Maplewood Hotel and staff are wonderful! The hotel itself is beautiful, decorated in very nice antique furnishings and spacious rooms. Very close to all the shops and restaurants in Saugatuck. The staff is very friendly and welcoming to the property. Perfect breakfast for the day, too.

An 18-minute walk from Douglas Beach, this down-to-earth gay resort is set on 20 wooded acres, and lies 1.7 miles from downtown Saugatuck it’s a great Gay friendly hotels Saugatuck.

There’s an outdoor pool and a sundeck, plus a game room. Other amenities include 2 bars (1 poolside), a nightclub, and a full entertainment program, including a seasonal weekend cabaret.

For almost 40 years, The Dunes Resort has provided a simple, comfortable gay hotel experience. Gays and lesbians come to escape the doldrums of Middle America and enjoy a day, weekend, or complete gay friendly vacation. Now crowned one of the largest gay and lesbian resorts and entertainment complexes in the Midwest, The Dunes Gay Hotel, formerly the Douglas Dunes Resort, is heralded as one the countries largest premier gay and lesbian vacation destination and a pinnacle of the gay Saugatuck – Douglas community.
What a great facility! We had a king room. It was fresh and clean with a large bathroom, huge shower with lots of towels (gay men know the importance of this). The pool is a super fun place with great music (thanks DJ Doug). The dance building is huge with lots of different spaces and lots of hot go go boys. The staff were super friendly. The property is immaculate and the other accommodation options (e.g. cottages) look amazing. Definitely a great place, have fun and to relax and meet new people. The nearby village of Saugatuck is beautiful and has a huge array of quaint shops with unique buys.
Visiting Michigan for the first time, and are used to stay at gay resorts around the world. So I had to try this out. Accommodation is really nice, fantastic pool area, friendly staff members, and nice bars with lots of activities during the week and weekends. I would not hesitate to come back and stay here again. Really enjoyed my time here.
The place feels like a big gay party venue, but it was really dead while I was there. I can’t really evaluate what it would be like to stay here when a party or celebration is the point of the visit. As more of a general hotel option, I’d say it’s fine. Maybe a bit overpriced? All facilities are attractive and well maintained.
The bed and bathroom were good, although I would have really appreciated a comfortable chair in my king standard room. There’s no real desk. Rooms are clean. Pool was very nice and the staff was friendly, although this is the first gay resort type place I’ve been to that closes the pool at dusk and doesn’t have a hot tub. Location is very good if you want to drive a short distance to Saugatuck.
This gay property makes you feel at home the moment you step through the door. We rented one of their well appointed cabins and enjoyed the privacy, but were still only steps from the pool. And the pool was a great place to people-watch and enjoy the music. The entire facility was impeccably clean and manicured and was on a beautiful piece of property.
The bars were great with a fantastic dance floor inside, and an open-air bar and dance floor under cover outside. There was a cozy show/karaoke bar upstairs which we enjoyed. The Dunes is within walking distance of beautiful Douglas and Saugatuck with wonderful restaurants and cute shops and galleries. We really enjoyed our stay and this will be our new “go to” summer resort.
Located in Douglas just 5 minutes from downtown Saugatuck, The DUNES is a fantastic getaway with a couple Motel-styled buildings, some small Cottages, a pool and an indoor/outdoor night club to boot. We travelled the 13 hours from our own “Gay Friendly Beach resort town” of Asbury Park to check out what our great-lakes brothers and sisters could call the “P-town of the Midwest.”
And, we were not disappointed – in large part because of the fantastic atmosphere the DUNES created in this space of theirs. Whether you’re lying by the pool, having a drink at one of the many bars, shopping in the lobby store, or having a snack from their Blue Frog cafe there’s always something to do onsite.

This is a fantastic place; the only gay resort of its kind in the Midwest (that we know of). Location is a bit of a walk into Saugatuck proper (maybe a mile?) but an easy walk into the more laid back Douglas with its great shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Staff and owners have always been fun, friendly, and helpful. From front desk staff, to housekeeping, to bartenders, strippers, and entertainers–such very nice people. Especially given the stress of managing a high-volume resort with a clientele with a notorious reputation for being picky. 🙂

The property has a large pool with poolside bar, lounge chairs, cabanas, and shaded area. Lots of chaise lounges. In a separate building is a bar with dance floor, a nightclub with live weekend entertainment, and a very large outdoor patio and dance floor.

Strippers are scheduled (usually) one night a week in the bar, and Sunday tea dances are held on Sunday afternoons at the outside dance floor. Each weekend in the summer has a theme. Warning: Labor Day and 4th of July weekends are VERY popular and sell out fast. The owners bring in DJ talent and the place is packed. The property is a short bike ride, long walk, or short drive to Oval Beach–one of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S. The is now a room/pool-service cafe on the property that delivers breakfast and lunch for limited hours most days of the week.

The Resort is an ideal spot from the main drag in Saugatuck. Just a few miles away. Nice shops, restaurants, etc. Very gay friendly.

The entire staff at the Dunes were very nice and hospitable. We had no issues at all with anything.
