Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Sosua Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic Islands along with the capital Santo Domingo and touristic city of Punta  Cana  and Sosua are considered a safe destination for LGBT tourists. LGBT people tend to face no discrimination issues in resorts and very touristic areas. Most Dominicans  inhabitants are quite tolerant of same-sex relationships and in the islands we can find some gay friendly hotels Sosua, Dominican Republic.

Although homosexuality is not technically legal in the D.R., a staunchly Catholic country, it is more prevalent in the D.R. than anywhere else in the Caribbean, with the possible exception of Cuba, where many young men and women have turned to prostitution, especially in Havana.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in the Dominican Republic do not enjoy the same rights as non-LGBT residents, and face legal and social challenges that are not experienced by other people. While the Dominican Criminal Code does not expressly prohibit homosexuality or cross-dressing, it also does not address discrimination or harassment on the account of sexual orientation or gender identity, nor does it recognize same sex unions in any form, whether it be marriage or partnerships. Household headed by same-sex couples are also not eligible for any of the same rights given to opposite-sex married couples, as same sex marriage is constitutionally banned in the country.

Sosúa is a beach town in the Puerto Plata province of the Dominican Republic. Located approximately 4 miles from the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in San Felipe de Puerto Plata. The town is accessed primarily by Camino Cinco, or Highway 5, which runs the country’s North coastline.

Great hotel. It stays booked because people love it. The staff and owner is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are renovated and very nice. Quiet place and close to everything (ie shopping, liquor stores, grocery stores, bands and restaurants). You are within walking distance to everything including 2 different beaches. The night security gentleman is awesome, friendly and very helpful.

This is really a wonderful hotel. I have stayed at this place multiple times and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The night security officer looks out for your best interest (good man). It’s in the right spot. There are MANY restaurants in the area. Grocery store is within walking distance. The beach is 4 blocks away or less. Banks and any other business is close and within 2 – 5 blocks. No car needed or required. Police station 4-5 blocks away.

This hotel was just beautiful and elegant. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of shopping, restaurants and a fantastic beach. The hotel was very quiet at night. The restaurant had amazing food (we recommend the sea bass!) and easily accommodated my gluten free requirements! The restaurant had live entertainment in the evening so that was fun! The rooms were lovely and the staff was helpful and friendly. included in the hotel price were a voucher for a free drink at the restaurant, plus a complimentary breakfast.

The room we stayed in was just big enough for the two of us. The maids, as mentioned, did a great job of keeping it clean. The free wi-fi worked very well. Bathroom fixtures were newish and acceptable. The shower was just okay and hot water often took a while to circulate through. I had a few cool showers while there. I grinned at some puzzling things such as no caulking on the shower floor and a curtain rod placed so high that the shower curtain allowed water to splash and soak the bathroom floor. There was also some unsafe wiring attached to the lights below the mirror. The mattress on the bed was approaching uncomfortable and it’s time to spend some money and replace it. However, this didn’t ruin our stay and we made it work.

For those of you not familiar with Sosua, Casa Valeria is in a great location in the downtown. Everything you need is close by and within walking distance. This, however, includes close access to one of the streets where most of the hookers hang out. Prostitution doesn’t seem to be illegal there and a few times we experienced a stream of “professionals” coming back to the rooms around us with some of the registered guests. Night security was a concern for us as we never once saw them come out to speak to 3:00 AM loudmouths about noise.

Perfect, everything in good condition, safe place, tasteful apartment (Penthouse), staff very friendly, security does their job, electricity and water is working well, garden is beautiful, the pool was always clean.

Penthouse condo in Sosua Infiniti Blu was awesome. Although beach and Infinity pool were unusable due to recent storm, they are the best in the area. Gated community with concierge ensured security, but local town seemed relatively safe if use common sense. Very clean and modern condo offers yoga classes, free ATV for an hour, bbq, snorkel gear, etc .All good quality stuff. There’s a pool side bar with food delivery from excellent nearby restaurant – delivered fast and hot, great Italian food. The place is frequented by retirees so its very quiet, its ok for young families but definitely not a party place.

The concierge staff were amazing, so helpful and accommodating considering this is not a hotel. We went to nearby Ocean World to swim with dolphins, a bit pricey but worth it. Concierge hooked us up with shuttle and 10% discount. Local town has great grocery store and restaurants within 10 min walk as well as a huge public beach in Sosua, a bit dirty in places but otherwise a great beach. DR electricity is costly so you pay consumption upon departure, so use AC only when you’re home.

We had a fantastic time in this ocean front penthouse. The unit was clean and very modern with nice furnishings. We would stay here again without question. Again, the front staff was attentive, helpful and always friendly. We snorkeled right out front with snorkel gear we checked out from the front desk. The restaurant La Terrassa was really good as well. The property is well maintained and in a good location away from the busy/crowded part of Sosua.

This apartment has views that are spectacular of the ocean and location is right in Sosua on the beach but still feels very peaceful and safe/secure. We’re coming back next year for sure.

Can’t speak for all apartments as I understand they are privately owned & rented but in apartment 3b3 the rooms are huge, it’s penthouse bedroom has a double shower overlooking the ocean, it like showing on the private beach! Lounge area is large with satellite TV, fast WiFi etc, easily accommodate 8 people with its 4 double bedrooms. Or if you are after something special (as i was for a wedding anniversary) then this luxurious place will make you feel like you own a slice of heaven.

Private beach is quite, infinity pool is clean, lush tropical gardens are well maintained, and one thing my wife and I liked is the security. Sosua is a lively vibrant place, especially at night however Infiniti Blu gives European travelers like us just that extra piece of mind with its many security guards and gates. Certainly a holiday to cherish.

Gigantic room with powerful A/C, full-size fridge, and generally good WiFi. Excellent restaurant onsite. Lavanderia onsite. Walking distance to everything. Pool and Jacuzzi onsite. Great staff. It can get noisy at times, but I wasn’t bothered. Excellent showers with unlimited hot water. Huge beds. The space and amenities of the hotel would cost far more elsewhere.

I have been to Sosua a few times and I find that this place is competitively priced compared to other places. Some say is is off the beaten path but I had no problems walking back and forth during the day or night.

The room is spacious and housekeeping does a great job. The only problem I have with the room is the mosquitoes that keep find their way in the room.

The place is decently priced. Based off my online search for hotels, this was one of the cheapest but highly rated hotels. The hotel is located maybe a 4 min. walk from central downtown area where all the action seemed to be. Far enough where you can get some sleep and not have to worry about all the music that’s blaring at 2am yet easy to walk to without breaking a sweat (it’s pretty warm at night).

Rooms are pretty clean and come with a small safe. I assume all come with a fridge and microwave as well. The pics on hotels.com though seem to portray that all rooms also have a stove but that isn’t the case so you may want to call the hotel and ask before you arrive. Thus I was a little bummed out I wasn’t able to cook. I only saw 1 mosquito in my room. I did bring some high deet Off spray and sprayed around the window and door cracks daily. I also find one strand of hair on the side of one of the sheets. I was sitting down and there is a possibility it rubbed off of me but I don’t know. Sheets were clean though. There is a pool and a Jacuzzi with a little bar in between the two where you can order food or drink.

Food was good. I only ate breakfast here unfortunately and I only ate the same thing. Pancakes, bacon, eggs and fruit. All pretty good or great depending on your tastes. I would rather my eggs well done but it’s difficult translating that but they did try. I’m not a fan of my bacon having too much fat but to each its own. Everything was decently priced and filling.
