Lesbiangaybisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.

U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in the U.S. state of Florida may face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Same-sex sexual activity became legal in the state after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Lawrence v. Texas on June 26, 2003, and same-sex marriage has been legal in the state since January 6, 2015.
The Florida cities were all highlighted for their year-round sunshine and lack of state income tax. Wilton Manors, Fort Lauderdale, Naples Florida, Miami Beach and St Petersburg Florida ranked among the most-demand gayfriendly cities for LGBTQ travelers during the holidays.
St Petersburg has a long history of being a  gay friendly town and in downtown we can find a few gay friendly bars as well as The Garage On Central or Enigma  &  Punky’s Bar and Grill are the most famous gay friendly bars in St Petersburg, FL.
Easily one of Florida’s most LGBTQ+-friendly destinations, you’ll enjoy picture-perfect beaches, along with a variety of gay-owned businesses and gayfriendly accommodations that make your stay special.

To start, the inn is perfectly located. It’s within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and other forms of entertainment, including the gorgeous pier.

When I arrived, Mike greeted me with a friendly face and showed me to my room. Everything was very clean and I have to admit, I loved the unique set-up with the bathtub.

Throughout my stay, Mike was there for everything I could need. Whether it be towels or dinner suggestions, he was happy to oblige. The continental breakfast offered a nice range of pastries, fruit, and beverages and I chatted with Mike as if we were old friends.

Parking was easy, wi-fi was reliable, room a/c was great.

Basically, if you’re looking for a place to stay in St. Pete, you can’t go wrong at the Beach Drive Inn! Will definitely book again next time I’m on the West Coast

The place is old historic charm but remodeled with the updated amenities needed. The room we stayed in was the Boca-the tub/shower is in the room with no separation but we loved it! Bathroom is on the smaller side but we’re not here to stay in our room all day so it’s perfect. The bed is one of the most comfortable we’ve had at a hotel and as a management consultant who traveled for over 30 years.

Its walking distance to all the great restaurants in downtown St Pete, and the newly remodeled Pier- which is a must visit. I highly recommend this place to stay- thanks Michael for making the stay personal.

The Beach Drive Inn hit the mark in every aspect of our accommodation. The location is superb! Just north of the commercial section of Beach Dr, it was easy walking distance to numerous restaurants, multiple parks and marinas of Tampa Bay, the Salvador Dali museum, the Chihuly Collection, and likely numerous other attractions we did not have time to explore in our 1 day stay. Additionally they have reserved parking in a very parking challenged part of town.

Breakfast spanned the 8:30-9:30 time frame providing flexibility for the guests. There were also two choices of breakfast, a graham cracker crusted quiche or raisin nut French toast, both delicious. A special request was also accommodated for one of the other guests.

And a lovely deck out the front to sit on, watch the world go by and enjoy a bottle of wine.

Awesome house with the most outstanding service! Definitely the place you want to go when you visit St. Petersburg. The house is beautiful and unique. Very cozy and filled with love and a family environment. The food is delicious, everyday a different and amazing breakfast. Ask for the homemade jelly! WOW!

The hosts’ know everything about the city and can give you the best tourism tips! From beaches, to restaurants and cultural places.

The best of the place are precisely the hosts: Carlos and Kevin! They will make you feel at home and surprise you with special details during your stay. Please do not forget to try their cookies!

You will love this place! It is one in a million.

We truly picked the perfect place for a friends getaway weekend! Kevin and Carlos, the owners and hosts, couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful. Kevin emailed a list of recommended restaurants to us ahead of our arrival. When we saw it, we jokingly told them we would have to extend our stay! Carlos followed up just prior to our arrival with additional ideas for lunch. The location is great, on a quiet, pretty residential street less than two blocks from the beach.

The Inn is a beautifully restored craftsman cottage, with five rooms for guests, on the second and third floors. Our suite featured a bedroom and sitting room with a desk and extra bed. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of counter and storage space. Excellent cleanliness standards, and I tend to be picky about those things.

The most fun was each morning around the breakfast table, chatting with the other guests and getting ideas from them about places to see. There is a beautiful garden in the rear of the Inn. BTW, the breakfasts are delicious, and the room price is very reasonable considering what you get. Don’t miss staying at this gem in St. Pete.

The hotel property was very pretty, rooms were nicely updated and bed were comfy. Love that it has a private beach access so we could walk right out to it in the mornings. Mark was there to help us out with all of our needs, towels, chairs, finding a server for drinks and foods etc and checked on us frequently. One of the few places on st Pete beach where this type of service and hospitality is provided. Both restaurants were good, food, drinks and service were on par with the rest of the experience. A great visit and will be back.
St Pete Beach is our go-to weekend destination. The biggest reason why we come back, time and time again, is the Don. The staff is lovely and helped to make our engagement an unforgettable experience.
The Don Cesar is a beautiful historic hotel and St.Pete Beach is always fantastic!! Very much enjoyed the beach & pool area. Had excellent food and wine at the Lobby Bar and at The Rowe.
The room was small, but nice and clean. Some of the fixtures and furniture are a bit dated but the hotel is older and has a lot of character. I especially enjoyed reading about the hotel’s history at various locations around the property. The property itself is ideally located in the heart of St. Pete Beach – right on the beach – a perfect spot.

Wine selection was great and there were plenty of non-meat options to accommodate our vegan/vegetarian diet. All in all, the meal and service were fantastic and reasonably priced for a great value. I’d eat there every time I stayed in St. Pete Beach for a nice, classy dinner.

The Don Cesar maintained great atmosphere with live music consistently going inside or outside. The music and vibe is what really makes this a go-to hotel/resort. This is a destination where you could spend a few days by the beach, listening to music, enjoying a nice meal or cocktail, and really unwind.

We ate a few other meals – breakfast, lunch, and Sunday brunch – at the other on-site restaurant – the Sea Porch Café (the weather was cold and dreary, so little reason to stroll about town…). The meals and service were always good.

The Don Cesar is the best place to stay on the beach. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The pool gets crowded fast so secure a spot early but its a great experience and quick access to the beach. The pool staff and bar are always overwhelmed yet they make excellent drinks and bring outstanding customer service.
The beach chairs are a bit pricey but worth it if you want to stay closer to the ocean. The spa is outstanding for any service and definitely a must before leaving The gym is very nice. Maritana Grill is amazing and never a disappointment. The lobby bar was a wonderful treat this visit and as always the evening jazz is awesome.
The hotel, rooms and grounds are clean and beautiful. The service was friendly and top notch. The food was also very good. My favorite part of the stay was the am beachside yoga. The instructor amazing and had a different routine each day. There is nothing like starting the day by listening to the waves, watching dolphins play and stretching on the beach.
The hotel is very nice, the room was clean, and the beach was great. It was easy to get towels and the employees working the towel hut were nice every day. One of the highlights of our trip was the complimentary kayaking and paddle boarding at BouYah watersports from 9am to 12pm daily. We also ended up jet skiing too and Justin and Jeff working there were super nice and helpful. Renting complimentary bikes and riding around the area was a highlight too.
All in all, it’s a beautiful hotel with great amenities and a great beach and while it was below (high) expectations, I would say we would still return.

Loved our stay at the Meranova while biking the The Pinellas Trail. We stayed in the Key West Room. Great size with a small fully equipped kitchen overlooking the pool. The location is right downtown with plenty of private parking in the rear of the property. Breakfast was brought to our veranda every morning. Perfect stay at a very clean, very roomy, very accommodating bed and breakfast! 5 stars all the way.
The location is perfect! It sits right in the middle of Downtown Dunedin, but the grounds of Meranova offer a peaceful and serene escape.
We stayed in the Key West room, which was cheerful, comfortable, and we felt right at home. The real heart of Meranova is the people that work there. Everyone was attentive and friendly!
What a lovely B&B! We spent the holidays staying in the Sea Star Apartment, it was really spacious and comfortable. Having a full kitchen was a real bonus, we used it a couple of times and it had everything we needed. We only ate one breakfast as we wanted to explore the local restaurants, but the breakfast we had was great. The location was perfect loads of bars and restaurants in walking distance. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful. A perfect stay.
My truly delightful 5 day stay at Meranova Inn was so wonderful that it absolutely was part of the highlight of my trip and is definitely is one of the best B & B’s I’ve ever stayed at, and I have been to many. David and Frank, always so gracious, accommodating and considerate, made every effort, and then some, to make me feel as welcome as family in this most gorgeous environment that they have created.

The setting is beautiful with an exquisite and meticulously kept landscape that also offers several choices for your gourmet breakfast should you not choose to dine in your own lovely accommodations or quiet porch. The location is perfect with a nice variety of restaurants and lovely shops nearby and the gulf is just a few short blocks way with beaches nearby as well, so perfectly located.

Thank you David and Frank for your heartwarming and sincere hospitality and my only regret is that I don’t live closer, as I most certainly will miss you and your beautiful Inn.

Very cozy and comfy B&B in Dunedin, your palace away from home. The large suite for the room made it feel very luxurious, as you can relax in your own sitting room sipping coffee or tea while ready daily newspaper provided or relax with tv or book in evening.
Breakfast was very healthy and excellent, always with juice, coffee or tea, yogurt with granola, lots of fresh fruits, then an entree of either egg dish such as frittata, or french toast. We looked forward to being pampered every morning. David & Frank are so thoughtful and wonderful hosts. Bike rental was literally minutes from the Inn to explore the Pinellas Trail which was so convenient. I highly highly recommend you give Meranova Inn a try if you are nearby. We would definitely stay there again if we visit Pete Beach!

 5. Hollander Hotel – Downtown St. Petersburg 3* – LGBT Friendly Hotels St Petersburg FL

Hollander Hotel - Downtown St. Petersburg
Hollander Hotel – Downtown St. Petersburg

Located in Saint Petersburg city centre, this boutique hotel features an on-site restaurant and heated outdoor pool with a poolside bar, and free WiFi. The Dali Museum is 1 miles away.

After a long day at the Saint Pete Beach, guests can return to the independently-owned Harmony Eco Hair Spa massage, salt therapy, and aromatherapy services with organic products. A launderette and free on-site parking are provided.

The Tap House and Grill and Bar offers their specialty, a Grouper sandwich, and 21 craft beers on tap with a wide selection of spirits. Coffee, cappuccino, and desserts are offered at the Common Grounds Coffee Shop.

Set in a 1933 building, this warm hotel in the Downtown St. Petersburg is an 11-minute walk from the Museum of Fine Arts and 1 mile from The Dalí Museum.

Relaxed rooms with a beachy vibe offer complimentary Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, as well as mini fridges, microwaves and coffeemakers. Suites and kitchenettes, walk-in closets and living areas, some with pull-out sofas.

There’s a casual restaurant/bar and a coffee shop, as well as a covered terrace and a coin-operated laundry. Other amenities include a spa and an outdoor pool with a poolside bar. Local shuttles and off-street parking are available.

The Hollander is a boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. We are just a short stroll away from Beach Dr. and some of St. Pete’s hottest attractions, including famous museums, restaurants, nightlife, and more. Our recently renovated hotel features clean and trendy rooms, complimentary on-site parking, high-speed Wi-Fi, and NEVER any resort fees. You can enjoy the convenience of on-site dining at the Tap Room Bar and Grill, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week.
The Tap Room offers indoor and outdoor dining, a New American cuisine, 21 craft beers on tap, and specialty cocktails. The Hollander is also home to Common Grounds, a delicious coffee shop and pastry bar, and the Harmony Eco Spa, an all-natural day spa. While with us, take a dip in our sparkling pool or have a refreshing cocktail at our poolside bar. Come see why the Hollander is so highly rated during your next visit to St. Petersburg!
The Hollander Hotel has a bed and breakfast type feel. Amazing staff, good food and a great pool. The rooms are small but didn’t bother me a bit. Limited parking but once you park they have a free shuttle service available. Definitely would go back. Gay friendly as well.
This is a real good bet for a visit to St. Pete if you want a quaint, historic hotel with amazing food and excellent service. It is within walking distance to the east side of St. Pete and it’s many restaurants. But to be honest, we ended up eating at the hotel’s tap room at least once a day if not twice. The food is just excellent and with local flare. The fish was perfect and I really liked the cuban quesadilla, But the BEER…the beer selections are craft and beautiful. There’s plenty here for a vegetarian as well (which my girlfriend is) and speaking of girlfriends, if you’re gay, this is immensely gay friendly as the manager and several staff are family as well.
Now the rooms are not modern- this is a historic hotel and so you can hear through the walls a little more easily and the bathrooms are small. But really folks, if you’re on vacation should you be in your room all the time? Especially in the bay area of Florida- please go outside! So this was a perfect pick for us and I think it will be for you too if you want a great deal, amazing food and beer, and oh by the way- there’s also live music in the bar most nights. Don’t pass the Hollander up for anything else.
They also have a poolside bar, you really could just come and have a nice weekend and never leave the place. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. I liked that our room had proper AC/Heat (not a window unit), a couch, small table with chairs, a nice little efficiency kitchenette area (microwave, mini-fridge, sink, flat wear, coffee maker). The place has recently done some updating, so I observed it looked nicer than in on-line photos posted.
I really loved the common spaces, all nicely decorated and fun old photos of St. Pete and the surrounding areas with informative descriptors all over. We enjoy history, so I wished we had had more time to see all the photos everywhere. There is also a spa there, but we didn’t look into it. Free parking and internet. Breakfast is not included, which I’m grateful for because I’m always disappointed by what most places put out and I’d rather sleep in. This is a charming old building, which has managed to keep some of the old flooring (love it) and with charming old buildings be aware the rooms are less sound proof than one might be accustomed to.
