In general, Costa Rica is  a gay-friendly country & tourist destinations, even in larger cities , however, few gay travelers will encounter any issues of discrimination and in the city capital you can find a few gay friendly hotels Tamarindo.

The position of the hotel is great, much nicer to be away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo town which I probably wouldn’t revisit as it was too much of a tourist trap for me (I preferred the quieter playa hermosa).

The free shuttle went at the times stated on the timetable for the entire duration of our two week stay so the comments regarding the “unreliability” are false ….however you will need to get a cab if you miss the last shuttle (8pm) which is $5 a go!! The view is great. Pool is clean and beach towels in plentiful supply.

Spotless and well maintained hotel with a large and fabulous infinity pool and pool bar. It is high up.on the hill so almost always has a refreshing breeze. The room was large and comfortable with a balcony and view of the ocean. The shuttle buses ran regularly to town and the partner beach club, but it was always a delight to return to the peace of the hotel. The staff were all excellent and helpful. We ate in the restaurant every night as the food was as good as anywhere and the cocktails varied.

What a gorgeous view! The hotel itself is stunning, nice pool, excellent breakfast (included) and lots of amenities including a shuttle into town and to Langosta beach club. This hotel is located on top of a hill and is a 15 walk down to the Main Street. The associated beach club is accessible by shuttle. Quiet, clean hotel rooms with balcony. If you don’t mind being away from the town and beach this hotel is worth staying at for the views and amenities.

The hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the busy tourist town of Tamarindo. Each room has a sea view, we were particularly lucky as we had the very top furthest north room so had a brilliant sunset view. The beds are very comfy but pillows slightly lumpy.

Rooms are kept immaculately clean with a maid service every day. Our shower head wasn’t the best as it sprayed randomly but not a real problem. There is an overpriced mini bar in the room which we didn’t use.

We found the breakfast to be excellent and the main dish was changed everyday with the usual selection of juices, cereal, toast, pancakes, scrambled egg, cold meat, cheese, yogurt etc I don’t know why people complain that it’s repetitive, let’s face it most people have the same breakfast everyday more or less and I thought this represented most people’s diversity, it is a bit cheeky though to charge extra for things like nutella or avocado. The staff were very attentive and welcoming especially Ronald who seemed genuinely happy to greet and talk.

Gay male couple celebrating engagement to be married we were absolutely Blown Away by the experience to the point where we are planning to come back in June 2019 to celebrate our honeymoon… Food, ambiance, staff all amazing, Tamarindo to die for.

The rooms (we wound up staying in two different rooms) were spacious, well appointed, and commanded a fine view.

The pool area was quaint and quiet, a good combination certainly enhanced by the lack of young children.

The open-air restaurant provided a fantastic breakfast buffet and produced snacks that ranged from “ok” to “very good.” The shrimp ceviche was a particularly yummy mid-day treat. Dinners were at two different seatings. The fixed menu was brought to us in a relaxed and well-timed pace. We never felt rushed, but also never felt that we were waiting around for the next course. Some meals were stellar, others left me wanting more – (the restaurant reminds me of some big city restaurants with great ratings that I don’t always find amazing…maybe the ratings set my expectations too high).

The private walkway to the beach a block, or so, away, was a really nice touch. I felt safe and secure, even after dark. The walkway provided easy access to shopping and snooping about the “busy” or tourist part of Tamarindo.

As this resort is built on a hill, there are lots of steps and stairs (don’t think they have an elevator) which could be challenging for those with mobility issues. The spectacular views of the town, ocean and mountains from the lobby lounge was the perfect way to start off my stay here as I was waiting for my room to be ready — they also offer complimentary refreshments including wine.

My room was room #1, which at first I was a bit shocked about how close it was to the entrance and separated from the rest of the main building, but it happened to be the nicest standard room they have as it was very quiet and private as it was located away from the other rooms. It’s actually more of a small cottage or bungalow and the interior and decor with its tall vaulted ceilings and your own patio/porch. The interior is finished much nicer than some of the other standard rooms which looks to be recently renovated with warm woods and a modern bathroom.

Because this is such a small resort, the driveway is not used often and all people use the walkway at the opposite end of the resort to walk to the main road and beach, and the private walkway to my cottage is lushly landscaped that it felt very private and quiet and I was never disturbed by anyone. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. The iPhone dock/alarm clock was well appreciated as the sound was of good quality and I could wake up to my own tunes, but this is Costa Rica so I often wake up naturally to the sounds of birds and wild monkeys.

The pool is very nice and other than a group of seven American tourists that were staying there and being loud and intoxicated, it was generally very quiet, peaceful and sparsely used. There is a private beach belonging to the resort across the street on the beach with its own bar and plunge pool which is highly appreciated when the beaches get to busy and chaotic.

Breakfast and dinner was included. Breakfast was great, with ample fresh fruits, baked goods and hot stations with made to order omelet station. Service was extremely friendly and courteous, and the staff was a pleasure to deal with. The restaurant was beautifully situated next to the pool and dining al fresco in the open tropical setting was very nice. I wasn’t too impressed with dinner.

While the service was great and the food was beautifully presented, I don’t think they really understand North American tastes as I found dinner to be on the bland side and the menu didn’t have much vegetarian options. The resort has partner resorts and restaurants nearby which you can get discounts if you decide to dine elsewhere.

The staff at the front desk was amazing, especially Marion (she’s awesome!). They helped me booked a number of excursions and activities at a great price (tip: do not book any of these in advance as you could book it locally for much less), and they offered some great suggestions. They were very accommodating and made my stay especially enjoyable and easy.

In general this is an excellent resort that’s close to everything but still feel like you are well isolated from the hoards of tourists which is great if you are looking to find a nice quiet and relaxing place to stay but still has the convenience of being centrally located. The grounds is lushly landscaped and well maintained so it really feels like you are staying in a private tropical paradise.

I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this resort to anyone especially if you are looking for a peaceful intimate and beautiful place to stay. Being an adults-only resort is a big plus as well. It may be more expensive than other resorts but it is well worth it

3. Tamarindo Bay Boutique Hotel – Adults Only 4* –  Gay Friendly Hotels Tamarindo

Tamarindo Bay Boutique Hotel
Tamarindo Bay Boutique Hotel

Situated just 500 m from the beach and 100 m from the town centre, the Modern, Contemporary & Sophisticated Adult-Only Tamarindo Bay Boutique Hotel features free Wi-Fi throughout and an outdoor swimming pool.

This boutique hotel offers air-conditioned rooms with a flat-screen TV, a wardrobe and private bathroom with free toiletries. Rooms overlook the pool or tropical gardens on two levels.

Daily housekeeping service and a chef prepared breakfast are included in every reservation. A 200 square metre terrace is set overlooking the hotel’s tropical gardens which attract a wide variety of wild fauna like iguanas, birds and monkeys.

A brand new, contemporary, eco friendly design that combines elegant style with the comfortable feel of your home away from home. We offer a private and secure setting, just minutes away from the beach, dining, shopping and all local attractions.

Pros:
Service. 5 star service. Marie is the Manager here and she’s amazing. The owners are lovely as well. Great service and tips on what to do in town.
Adults only (no kids at the pool)

Gay friendly. Also known as normal. Sad you have to be thankful for this in 2017 but you do. This isn’t a gay hotel but they are known for being a safe place for the LGBT community to stay.

Clean rooms
Pool is amazing (small but nice)
Honor system with the hotel fridge which has beer
Quiet space.

Tamarindo is a quaint little town with much to offer and the hotel is located within walking distance of both the beach as well as popular restaurants and cafes. This gives you the opportunity to include partners or travel companions who may not be involved in your particular activity, such a s yoga, in our case, as they are free to safely explore the town and beach on their own or arrange any of the fun activities on offer in the town, like surfing, scuba diving, paddle boards, hiking etc, which are within the expert abilities of the hotel concierge service included in your stay.

The property includes three, senior, well behaved rescue dogs who have the run of the place but are not, in any way, bothersome. It was nice for those of us missing pets at home, to be able to interact with them. The owners contribute regularly to local animal rescue efforts and even have a dedicated drinks fridge with profits donated to the cause.

Great location away from the “busy” downtown core, but a couple of minutes walk to beach, and all the offerings of Tamarindo. Breakfasts were great, and rooms were big.

This is an elegant little hotel a few minutes walk from the town centre and beach.

Spotless and ultra modern, it is a little oasis in a quiet and serene setting, but yet close to the nightlife and a safe walk to town centre during the evening hours. We even spent a couple of afternoons lazing around the pool area, talking to other travellers from other parts of the world.

The breakfasts are delicious, especially the fruit which is delicious and sweet throughout Costa Rica.

The manager, Marie and the owner Batsheba were only to happy and helpful when planning outings, restaurants and transport. Take my advice and listen to their recommendations, they really know from experience what they are talking about.

The hotel is well located (less than a 5 minute walk from the beach) with great amenities. There are great restaurants and coffee shops within a stone’s throw. We stayed at this hotel at the peak of high season (from Christmas to New Years) and the hotels on the main stretch were really congested, so it was nice to be away from the noise. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job of keeping the property and rooms tidy. No complaints!

No question that I’ll be staying here during future stays in Tamarindo!
