Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Tirana Albania (2023 Updated)

Albania is conservative country especially for gays and Albanian society is not so tolerant regarding homosexuality but in the capital city of Tirana you can find a few gay friendly bars and as well gay friendly hotels Tirana.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Albania face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, due in part to the lack of legal recognition for same-sex couples in the country and prevailing negative attitudes about LGBT persons throughout society, although LGBT persons in Albania are protected under comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation. Both male and female same-gender sexual activities have been legal in Albania since 1995.

Tirana, the capital of Albania, is known for its colorful Ottoman-, Fascist- and Soviet-era architecture. Pastel buildings surround the city’s focal point, Skanderbeg Square, which is named for its equestrian statue of a national hero. On the square’s north end is the modernist National History Museum, covering prehistoric times through Communist rule and the anti-Communist uprisings of the 1990s.

Situated in the heart of the city. Short walking distance shopping malls , cafes , restaurants , main square and anything you need.

The hotel has 5 stars and they provide guests all that a 5 star hotel could offer. Plaza Hotel is among the best hotels I stayed past few years. I have enjoyed staying at Plaza and beautiful city Tirana. Hotel staff, city residents and everyone is friendly and polite.

The hotel is centrally location in the capital of Albania, Tirana. It is across a shopping mall and is near restaurants and cafes.

The Plaza is modern, clean and well placed in the city. It is a 2 minute walk from the famous Skanderbeg square and several museums. There is a large mall across the street for your shopping pleasure too. The main boulevard in Tirana is also about a 2 minute walk. The fine dining at the Convivium restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Plaza treats you to a great menu enhanced by the exceptional service of the Maitre’D.

You can also choose to eat at the Italian restaurant outside on the hotel patio. The breakfast is well prepared and stocked too.

The hotel has an ideal location in central Tirana. Among other advantages, there are many restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel is located across the street from the sleek Toptani shopping mall, which has a well-stocked supermarket in the basement. It is a stone’s throw from the National History and “Bunkart” museums as well as from several of the government buildings.

The rooms are large, ultra-modern, and nicely decorated. From my room on the 16th floor (1610), I had a wonderful view of the city with the mountains in the distance. The bed was extremely comfortable with impeccable linens. The workspace was more than adequate. There was a minibar fridge where I was able to keep a few drinks (water, sodas, etc.) cool. And the bathroom was roomy and well-appointed with a very effective and easy to control walk-in shower. The WiFi worked well without interruption. In short, the room had everything I needed and more.

I used the laundry services and my clothes were returned in impeccable shape. As a “long-term” guest, I was entitled to a discount on valet services as well as on an restaurant bills.

I did not have the occasion to visit the spa, but I understand from several colleagues that it is quite exceptional and well worth visiting.

Although we ate out on most evenings, several colleagues and I used the hotel restaurant (located in a separate building across a courtyard) on a few evenings for convenience. We found the quality of the food, the service, and the atmosphere to be very good.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not single out the staff of the 2nd floor breakfast room for especial praise (breakfast was included in our room rate). The breakfast room had a well-laid out buffet offering a wide and very appealing selection of food and drinks, including Albanian specialties. Items like tea/coffee and eggs were prepared to order and brought directly to the table. Aside from the quality and variety of the food and drink, the blend of courtesy and cheerful efficiency demonstrated by the host and wait staff made the overall breakfast experience an outstanding one, and a pleasure to get up for each morning.

One of the best hotels (and cities) I’ve stayed in. The staff were really kind, friendly and helpful. The room was brand new and immaculate. The air con was good and the room was really quiet, so I always got a good night’s sleep. The room has tea/coffee making facilities, and an empty mini-fridge which you can stock with items from the 24-hour shop at reception. The breakfast options were excellent and the fagottini with fresh truffle I had one night for dinner was amazing.

It’s a 30-minute easy walk to the main sights of Skanderbeg Square, the Pyramid, BunkArt2, etc – the best way is to walk along the Gjergi Fishta Boulevard which is full of shops and cafés on both sides of the River Lana. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes and a Conad minimarket near the back of the hotel on/near Kavaja Street.

I totally fell in love with Tirana itself – it has such a cool vibe. I’m planning on returning to this hotel and then exploring the rest of Albania very soon.

The location is quiet and just outside the hurly-burly of the city center. Staff are extremely friendly and professional. The rooms are modern, comfortable, and everything works. Wi-Fi is great, good selection of TV channels (Albanian tv shows excellent movies in original English, by the way), and there are terrific cafes and restaurants just behind the hotel, as well as a convenient minimarket almost next door.

I especially enjoyed the Italian restaurant, the Pizzeria Napoletana on nearby Kavaja St., more or less behind the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel is good and there is a choice of indoor or outdoor dining – the outdoor area is a real oasis of quiet, despite the urban location. Highly recommended.

Very impressed with the hotel upon arrival; the staff here are super welcoming, friendly and helpful and the hotel has a really nice feel to it; I expect it is relatively new.

It is around 25-30 minutes from the airport and a taxi is around 1800 LEK.

I found the bed to be exceptionally comfortable, along with the pillows. The room was large, spacious and well appointed. There is also a fridge in the room which can be stocked with personal items.

We had some food and drinks often in the hotel bar and we found it to be of good quality and very reasonably priced; the bar staff were excellent also and spoke great English.

The location is about 20 minute walk to Blokku or a 5 minute taxi ride which will cost around 500-600 LEK.

Highly recommend staying here and would definitely stay again.

What I loved the most about this hotel is the peace and quiet you get at night. Not once was I woken up by other guests, housekeeping or street noise as I did in other hotels I stayed. I highly appreciate the fact that your windows and doors are sound proof and your housekeeping is gracious enough not to make too much noise when cleaning other rooms.

What I also loved is that I got a proper duvet to sleep under. I know it’s summer and I know that a lot of hotels just give you a thin sheet but with the air con on it’s just so nice to have a duvet to sleep under. Rooms might have been a little bit on the small side but they are well equipped and are very modern and clean.

Overall I had a great stay and would definitely book again.
