Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Valparaiso Chile (2024 Updated)

Santiago is the capital city of Chile and a is one of the  gay-friendliest place in South America along with Valparaiso on the chilean coast. We will find most of the accomodation to be suitable for gay couples in Gay Friendly Hotels Valparaiso.

The LGBT community in Chile has gained some rights in recent years. In 2012 it was approved the anti-discrimination law that includes sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories. The law penalizes the arbitrary discrimination, allows citizens to file anti-discrimination lawsuits and requires the State to develop public policies to end discrimination.

Valparaíso is a port city on Chile’s coast. It’s known for its steep funiculars and colorful, clifftop homes. La Sebastiana, the quirky former residence of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, is now a museum with far-reaching Pacific views. During the 19th century, an influx of European immigrants left their mark on the city’s architecture and cultural institutions, many of which congregate around downtown Plaza Sotomayor.

 1. Verso Hotel 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Valparaiso

Verso Hotel
Verso Hotel

Featuring an on-site restaurant, Verso Hotel offers accommodations in Valparaiso. Free WiFi access is available.

Rooms here are all fitted with a Smart TV with Netflix and other services. Other amenities include a private bathroom with free toiletries. Some rooms include a seating area and a balcony to relax in after a busy day. Daily maid service is provided.

At Verso Hotel guests will find a 24-hour front desk and a hot tub, which is available for a surcharge. Welcome drinks are offered upon arrival. Free private parking is available upon reservation and subject to availability.

Verso Hotel is a new hotelier and culinary approach in Valparaiso. With a modern design that blends architecture and poetry, it’s located in the heart of Poets Neighborhood in Cerro Florida, a few meters from La Sebastiana, the House of Chilean Nobel Prize poet Pablo Neruda. The building, on two floors plus a terrace, combines construction elements such as concrete and metal, with a decoration based on works by local artists and hanging gardens.

The rooms surround a central sky-open courtyard, where visitors can relax with a drink or reading one of the books of poetry that are offered in the Lobby area. Each of the rooms is dedicated to a Latin American author, which is represented by selected poems in their walls. The panoramic terrace on the top roof offers a spectacular 360 degree view of the bay and the hills of Valparaiso, and a Restaurant run by Chef Gonzalo Pacheco, whose gastronomic proposal based on native and seasonal products is at the forefront of the region.

Great location with a lot of the key things to do in walking distance. Chic Viña Del Mar and beaches within an easy and beautiful UBER ride. Phenomenal view. Very clean. Awesome and plentiful quality bath products. Great cocktails. Great food. Small rooms made up for with functional design. Super gay friendly and extremely helpful staff.

Verso Hotel is located a few blocks away from Pablo Neruda’s house in a really peaceful neighbourhood of Valpo.

Staff were very welcoming to us as a gay couple and friendly.

It’s got a poet theme running through it with each room dedicated to a famous poet. Ours was Ruben Dario from Nicaragua with a large inscription of his most famous poem Invernal on the wall.

The highlight for us, those bathtubs in the rooftop – you can’t beat the views across Valpo from here. Truly stunning.

This hotel is fairly new and very clean. The staff was very accommodating. The rooms are exceptionally small by u.s. standards but the location, cleanliness and feeling safe(police station across the street) made up for the size. Basically a place to rest up to sight see. The rooftop terrace has fabulous views both day and night. Walking distance to la sebastiana. Walking distance to public transportation. Uber pick up available as well.

Loved the modern design of this hotel. The location is great, 5 min walking distance to Pablo Neruda’s house. The rooftop restaurant was really nice with good food, service and amazing views over Valparaiso. But the highlight were the hot wood bathtubs, they were so relaxing after a day of sightseeing. For the price, this a great middle range option in Valparaiso.

The hotel has a really cool design with an open courtyard in the middle where they serve breakfast. There are restaurants within walking distance, and Verso provided an amazing, expansive, free breakfast including some delicious fresh squeezed juices. They also had a rooftop restaurant that we ate at one night & was very good and well priced. We loved our free cocktail at check in! They have rooftop private hot tubs to rent but we did not have time to take advantage of those.

My partner and I were glad we chose to stay at the Verso Hotel during our visit to Valparaiso and neighboring Viña del Mar, which is just a 20-minute bus ride away. The hotel is super modern and stylish, with clean, comfortable rooms. The staff was very attentive and helpful, with everything from check-in to directions around the city to restaurant recommendations, though it is a major plus that the hotel has an excellent rooftop restaurant on property with amazing views.

We also liked that the hotel is located in the Cerro Florida, a quiet, mostly residential neighborhood, and just blocks away from the museum of Pablo Neruda’s famed La Sebastiana house. And the hotel features secure, enclosed parking, which was really nice and provided peace of mind.

Modern & stylish accommodation with a unique atmosphere. We felt well looked after with fantastic personalised service from all the staff. With breathtaking views of the harbour from our room as well as the terraced roof top, a great place to unwind. Free Wi-Fi a plus, & breakfast was included.

Set in a charming house located only 1 km from Valparaiso’s beach, MM 450 offers accommodations with free WiFi.

Boutique hotel with restaurant and boutique store located in the heart of Cerro Alegre, Valparaíso. The house was restored in december, 2016. The 10 rooms has private bathroom and a lovely MM 450 breakfast include in the rate.

A great place to stay in Valparaíso. The overall experience here was a good one. The friendly helpful English speaking staff guided us in the right direction from day one. Breakfast was included each day on the restaurants pretty terrace patio in a fantastic location to Cerro Alegre. The only thing we should mention is that the basic room was quite small and a little noisy.

The hotel is an older building but charming with a lovely courtyard and rooftop patio where they serve complimentary wine and snacks in the evening. They also have breakfast included which was delicious! We had homemade granola with yogurt, fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice and your choice of eggs with fresh baked bread. Coffee was cheerfully served by Benjamin, the bartender and barista. We asked for steamed milk for our coffee and he made us a delicious coffee with steamed and frothed milk and then gave us each a pitcher of the hot milk for our next cup. Most of the staff seemed to speak English and all were so nice and very helpful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Highly recommend this little hotel for gay couples!

The MM 450 stands out as the best hotel in Lautaro Rosas, a tree lined road which is a pleasure to walk down. The whole hotel has been beautifully decorated and furnished. Our compact room was downstairs opening onto a lovely courtyard with comfortable seating.

The hotel is in a good elevated position for seeing the sights of Valparaiso with two funiculars within easy walking distance. There is a small restaurant and bar which provides excellent cocktails and there are plenty of other restaurants nearby.

Our room was upstairs at the back with a little sitting room outside with a wood burning fire. Our bathroom was up a couple of steps, was huge with access to a small private courtyard. The bed was huge, very comfortable, spotlessly clean and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fresh fruit slices, yoghurt and cereal, juice, eggs, coffee or tea. The beer garden in the front was a lovely sunny spot perfect to sit with a morning coffee.

The location is great, an easy walk to the port, right next to the famous street where you can see the ocean

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of the old part of town and on a quieter street. There is a nice terrace out the front which gets the afternoon sun. The room and bathroom were functional and comfortable. We had room 1 which was nearest to the restaurant which was noisy till late on one of the nights we stayed, this room was also quite dark. I’d recommend a different room if possible. The breakfast was lovey – freshly made with a variety of food and definitely enough to keep you going!

3. Palacio Astoreca 4* – LGBT Friendly Hotels Valparaiso

Palacio Astoreca

Set in a charming historical building, Palacio Astoreca offers elegant sun terraces with panoramic bay views, an indoor swimming pool and spa facilities in Valparaiso. WiFi is free and Yugoslavo Boulevard is 100 m away.

Hotel Palacio Astoreca has chic rooms equipped with flat-screen cable TV and private bathrooms with bathrobes and slippers. Some rooms feature scenic views of Concepción Hill.

Guests staying at Astoreca can relax by fireplace at the piano bar while sipping wine from the hotel’s cellar.

A daily breakfast is served and Alegre Restaurant offers fusion cuisine dishes.

The new boutique hotel Palacio Astoreca opened in September 2012 and since then our hotel and restaurant have been positioned as one of the best in the country, praised by national and international critics, but especially, the more we care, for our loyal guests.

Wonderful hotel in excellent location overlooking the sea, it has been refurbished to a good standard, large bedrooms and comfortable beds. The terrace has stunning panoramic views and the spar with a small pool is good, breakfast was good with a wide selection and the staff were very helpful and professional. the hotel is close to a funicular taking you to sea level.

If you want a hotel right in the heart of Valpo, this is your spot. It’s right in the middle of the old city, walking distance to everything. The property is quaint and the rooms seem reasonably updated and quiet. Staff was very accommodating, helping us map out our day and answering any other questions in the best English I heard in Chile.

The hotel is a jewel among Valparaiso small & simple constructions: great service, excellent location, good views of the city. Rooms are spacious and refined, beautiful wallpaper on only one wall behind the bed added a very chic look to the room. Bathroom was modern even though construction is old. Really enjoyed their spa.

The only downside was how thin walls were, we could hear everything going on down the hall. Request a room one either end of the hall for more privacy. The pool and spa area were the perfect relaxing spot for 1/1. Their bar is great – with both classic Chilean wines and creative cocktails. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Relatively good sound prodding in room but if you are planning on staying on NYE, the parties outside continue until 9am so earplugs (provided along with chocolate by the hotel staff) are a must. The staff was friendly.

The restaurant was on the side of the hotel and overlooked the plaza. It had glass walls so we could people and dog watch. Breakfast was a buffet, mostly cold but with heated containers of sausages, scrambled eggs and bacon. There were fresh fruit juices of orange, strawberry and pineapple. Fresh fruit included 3 types of delicious melons, mango, strawberries and grapes. There were slices of cold meats, smoked salmon and cheese.

The two types of bread were good, along with butter and various preserves; no marmalade (I never saw marmalade, my favourite!). The coffee was poor and from an urn; it was possible to request an espresso at an extra cost. With hindsight, this was probably one of the best breakfasts with respect to quality and variability that we had on our trip.
