Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Vang Vieng Laos (2024 Updated)

Homosexuality isn’t criminalized in Laos but the existing laws have suppressed the rights of the Laos LGBTQ community. Overall, the Lao people tend to be welcoming to visitors. Vang Vieng, the party destination of Laos  has the most of gay friendly hotels Vang Vieng.

However, while the country is tolerant towards LGBTQ visitors, Lao society remains traditional and conservative towards homosexuality.

Vang Vieng is a small town north of Vientiane, on the Nam Song River in Laos. It’s surrounded by striking limestone mountains and caves. Tham Poukham, to the west, is a cave with a blue-green lagoon and a reclining Buddha statue. North is the deep Tham Nam Cave, which has a spring at its entrance. Nearby, Tham Xang Cave has a stalactite resembling an elephant. The town is home to 16th- and 17th-century monasteries.

Day Tours Vang Vieng

While you may not be able to have an authentic Laos experience while visiting Vang Vieng, I think it’s important to visit. The town has been built a lot around tourism and the locals still need this income. Grab a bike and explore some of the stunning outdoor scenery that the city has to offer

A 4-hour drive from Vientiane (Wattay) Airport and Luang Prabang Airport or 5 hours away Udon Thani International Airport, Vang Vieng’s many attractions are also all within easy reach.

Featuring locally inspired rooms and suites and thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor spaces our Vang Vieng hotel offers you excellent facilities including a free-form swimming pool with the unique natural landscape as your backdrop, Breeze Spa, fitness centre, Kids Club and diverse dining options

This hotel is centrally and conveniently located in Vang Vieng. There are plenty of eateries in the immediate vicinity. It is also a short distance away from the night market.

The lobby has a high ceiling and you feel welcome in the lobby. There are plenty of seating areas. Otherwise, you can head outside to the swimming pool, which has excellent views of the mountains on the other side. On the second floor, there is a small gym. You have dumbbells up to 25kg, one adjustable bench, stationary bikes and treadmills, as well as a combined machine.

I had the Superior King with River View. The room was spacious, with a rain shower option. There was also a balcony with a rack to dry your clothes, especially if you do any wet activities. The balcony also provides a great view of the mountains and the other side of the river. 4 600ml bottles are also provided each day. The TV had cable and you can watch shows on Nat Geo, HBO and FOX movies..

Rooms are great with fantastic views of mountain ranges especially those near the swimming pool!

Rooms have, WiFi, mini bar, safe, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel with a lemon grass fragrance, toothpaste and toothbrush, coffee and tea, electric kettle, almost all the luxurious room items are there! But no flat iron not ironing board.

This hotel is an absolute oasis, welcoming, clean, modern with good facilities. The river view room with balcony is exceptional – just for the view alone.

Vang Vieng can be a little dusty to say the least so returning to the Amari just always seemed so special but never sterile. The staff here are exceptionally friendly but I must mention Khun Su who made such effort to tell us about the food and must do’s in the area, not to mention the fabulous service he gave us.

The food in the main restaurant is varied and well presented. The portions were big for far eastern standard – sensibly priced and flavoursome, so much we had three meals at the hotel.

The rooms are large and very well equipped. River view rooms also have a small but adequate balcony which the town side doesn’t have.

Location is perfect. VV is quite compact anyway but everywhere is within an easy walk.
The hotel has a modern and airy feel to it and all the staff are helpful and smiling. Breakfasts have a good selection of hot foods although the cold platters are limited.

This hotel has to easily be the best in Vang Vieng. It is located smack bang in the middle of town with all bars and restaurants and spas in walking distance. The rooms are very nice, clean and spacious.

The shower head has amazing water pressure and actually produces hot hot water for those that also like to scold themselves during a shower. Pool and restaurant are also great and staff are lovely – big thanks to those helping me during a medical emergency too. Would recommend again and again.

2.  Riverside Boutique Resort, Vang Vieng 4*Gay Friendly Hotels Vang Vieng

Riverside Boutique Resort
Riverside Boutique Resort

Located on the banks of the Nam Song River, Riverside Boutique Resort, Vang Vieng features elegant French colonial architecture and a stylish ethnic decor. Guests can relax by the pool or enjoy a fresh cup of coffee from Bolaven Plateau at the restaurant.

Riverside Boutique Resort is 3-hr drive from Vientiane. It is 5-hr drive from Luang Prabang.

Fitted with tiled flooring, air-conditioned room features a flat-screen cable TV, a minibar and an electric kettle. An en suite bathroom comes with a bathtub, free toiletries and a hairdryer. A bathrobe and slippers are provided.

Ideally located on the bank of the Nam Song River, multi-award winning Riverside Boutique Resort is a luxury hotel with charm and character. It is laid out around one of the most inviting swimming pools to be found in Laos, and offers stunning views of the surrounding lush landscapes and forest-clad limestone mountains.

Thirty-four rooms with large balconies are located within the tranquil gardens, as well as a traditional herbal spa and an elegant restaurant overlooking the river. With a beautiful design that blends local traditions, ethnic arts and French colonial architecture, Riverside Boutique Resort celebrates the exceptional diversity of Laos, just a short drive away from Vientiane.

The beautiful resort lies on the nam song river with breathtaking views of the limestone mountains. The layout of the property is perfectly geared to that view with a big and nice central pool area. Public areas all nicely decorated and well maintained. Great breakfast buffet with both laotian and european delicacies. Service is great. The restaurant is top with outside and inside tables. Particularly in the evening the resort has a mesmerizing ambience.

Great location with lovely views across the river and limestone mountains beyond. Rooms overlook the pool and are spacious with air conditioning and modern amenities. Excellent breakfast overlooking the pool and river, and the restaurant is good value with a range of local and western options. The hotel will arrange for a long boat to pick you up from the hotel for a trip along the river and we also did a cycle ride to the Blue Lagoon and a trek up a limestone karst which was great despite the heat! Vang Vieng itself doesn’t have a lot to offer the ‘more mature’ traveller, but well worth a visit for all the activities on offer.

The View is of the limestone mountains, Nam Song, the bridge that goes over to the other side of Vang Vieng, and the kayaks and long boats that ply this river from early morning through evening.

We had a room on the upper floor which included this sumptuous view, as well as the hotel swimming pool. The room was large with a very large, comfortable bed. The table and chairs in the room and on the balcony were a nice touch. The room was attractively decorated with crafts from local ethnic groups.

The extensive and delicious breakfast had Eastern and Western choices. It was served in the restaurant on the upper floor which included The View.

A superb hotel with outstanding customer service by all staff. Excellent rooms – the Tai Dieng suite is highly recommended for spaciousness, privacy and unmatched views of the river and limestone mountains from its enormous balcony. The restaurant serves an extensive Laos and European menu to all tastes and service is again exemplary – Chai King in particular manages to learn guests’ names immediately and addresses them warmly and respectfully throughout their stay.

The hotel is self-sufficient in all respects, but a walk into the thriving, dusty little town is full of delights and the area is bursting with natural attractions to explore by buggy, 2-stroke powered boat or tuk tuk. A wonderful example of Laos offering something genuinely world class and bringing visitors from all over the world to appreciate and enjoy its wonderful countryside. Bravo, the Riverside Boutique Hotel.

The pool is lovely, with an amazing view of the mountains. It is also the perfect place to watch the sunset every night with half priced cocktails during happy hour (5-7, so coinciding with sunset). The rooms were clean and nice with a lot of space, and most have a balcony with a view of the pool. There are also mountain and beach cruiser style bikes, but keep in mind you have to rent them ($2-5 per day).

The breakfast is great: eggs, bacon, croissants, fruits, freshly squeezed juices, yoghurt, cold cuts, a chef who makes omelets or pancakes for you, fried chicken and noodles.

This is a real hotel to relax and spend the day in the pool. Next to the river and with an amazing view of the mountains. The rooms are spacious and well decorated, and the bed very comfortable. We stayed in the first floor in one of the buildings towards the swimming pool, with a lovely terrace.

3. Sansan Resort 3*  – Gay Friendly Hotels Vang Vieng

Sansan Resort
Sansan Resort

Located in a quiet garden setting, Sansan Resort is a 5-minute walk across the old airfield to the main street of Vang Vieng, as well as the night market. Free WiFi access is available in the restaurant.

The resort is a 5-minute drive from Na Song River. It is a 30-minute drive from Phou Kham Cave. Wattay Airport is a 3-hr drive away.

Fitted with wooden flooring, air-conditioned rooms come with a TV, a fan and en suite bathroom.

Gracefully located in the natural harmony of Laos lush rice fields in Vang Vieng town just moments away from the Nam Song River and tourist mess, gazing across the verdant rice fields and sacred mountains, The boutique SanSan Resort & Spa is a true hidden gem of sanctuary of serenity to stay and discover the hidden splendors of natural wonders of Laos northern mountain, Vang Vieng.

Designed in a traditional style, this intimate resort is gemmed with teak, silk and fresh cotton accents. It is famed for its wonderful nostalgic charms-influenced local cuisine, a traditional spa, and unforgettable Laos hospitality. With a reputation as one of the most serene Vang Vieng resorts, San San is a true haven of peace. Relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy stepping back into a gracious era.

Location was five minute walk from the Main Street crossing an old air field with a local market, unfortunately lots of rubbish on that field and no lighting at night.

As the resort is about 7-10 minutes walk to the city centre (you need to go through a dusty road to get there) therefore, it is recommended to get a tuk tuk upon your arrival at Vang Vieng city centre to go to this resort. Having said, this place is quiet and you definitely find tranquility staying over here.

The heart of the resort is a massive swimming pool surrounded by nicely appointed bungalows with the emphasis on outdoor relaxation. There is a large reception area with food and drinks available and the breakfasts are buffet style and delicious. The location is handy to town and away from town noise.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are lovely and the pool is clean. A relaxing oasis from the dust and noise of the main street yet just a 5 minute walk to the night market and all of the restaurants.
