Curacao a great destination for LGBT vacations because of the caribbean people’s cosmopolitan worldview; which is somewhat unique among the Caribbean islands and we will find plenty of gay friendly hotels Willemstad.
Curacao & the capital Willemstad is frequently referred to as one of the Caribbean’s most LGBT-friendly islands, with various venues, hotels and restaurants catering to LGBT clientele or otherwise advertising as “LGBT-friendly”. Several specific gay bars and clubs have opened in the capital city of Willemstad.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Curaçao may face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal in Curaçao, but same-sex marriage is not legal. Same-sex couples with Dutch nationality must travel to the Netherlands to get married and legal protection of marriage is not unconditional. Discrimination on the basis of “heterosexual or homosexual orientation” is outlawed by the Curaçao Criminal Code.
Willemstad is the capital city of Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island. It’s known for its old town center, with pastel-colored colonial architecture. The floating Queen Emma Bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda neighborhoods across Sint Anna Bay. By the water is the 19th-century Rif Fort, now housing a shopping center. City restaurants serve dishes influenced by the island’s mostly Dutch and Afro-Caribbean cuisines.

Explore the real Curacao in Otrabanda, the “pontjes brug” and the fruit and local market. Or take your rental car and explore the Island and all of its 70 beaches!!! Scubalodge, welcome.
Scuba Lodge is absolutely great! The hotel consists of 5 restored buildings dating to the 1800s or so. The room was very comfortable, mixing old and modern, and the balcony overlooking town was a great touch. The staff at Scuba Lodge is very helpful and friendly too. The hotel has a nice grotto pool that is quiet and shaded, next to the bar area is an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The lodge is located within walking distance to all the shopping and restaurants, no need for a cab. We would definitely stay here again on a return trip to Curaçao.
Scuba Lodge itself is made up of 4 or 5 historic buildings that have been combined to create a boutique hotel. On both sides of Scuba Lodge are a couple other little hotels w pools you can also use and a few great little restaurants. We found the food and service to be really good at both places nextdoor St Tropez and the BiJu (whatever) restaurant. We also loved hanging at the dive bar directly next store which has a little beach area and a happy, cool vibe. The Dive place next store was awesome and all the workers were super happy to chat w us and provide recommendations on Curacao (even tho we weren’t diving). So although Scuba Lodge itself is a small place, there’s a lot to offer nearby. It’s also a quick and easy walk to the main areas and attractions.
If amenities are a necessity for you I would recommend Lion’s Dive just down the street. But if you are looking for a safe, historic, local spot that has great walkability, a wonderful little pool and BIG view with large, private terraces Scuba Lodge is for you.
The rooms were very large and air-conditioned. The apartment had a huge living room/gathering space, a large kitchen, and each bedroom had its own bath/shower. I think there was even another shared bathroom as well as washer/dryer and another small kitchen. We had an outdoor patio with a couch and a large table to seat six–maybe more.
Scuba lodge is located in the central pietermaai district. The area itself is run down in places, but the hotel is quite lovely and clean. It was our first time in an boutique hotel and would stay there again in a heartbeat. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The restaurant offered great food (although food prices on the island were on the pricey side).
The dive shop offered a one of a kind trip which was well priced. Just be aware that it is very expensive to cab anywhere on the island, but you can take the city bus which was very easy for $2 to go to Mambo beach. Mambo beach has more of a touristy feel. City beach is right next door, and has good pizza, but again, pricey drinks. We didn’t always feel comfortable swimming here due to the strong rip tide.
Our room faced the street and the only downfall of our room really, was the street noise all throughout the night. All in all, we were very glad we choose to stay at scuba lodge. We wouldn’t have changed a thing.

An excellent hotel. The pass for free entry to the Sea Aquarium was fantastic. Also the pass for a free sun lounger on Mambo Beach was really useful. Rooms are spacious and very well-equipped.
To start off I want to recommend dolphin suites to everyone going to Willemstad. The Rooms are very large, clean, have a big bathroom which can easily fit wheelchairs, a nice little kitchen and a big washing table which you can use. Most of all it’s the staff that makes the stay great by the service they provide which includes help renting a car, advice where the best places are to dive and snorkel.
The extras that the hotel offers are great too because you get free entrance to dolphin aquarium, to all the beaches at Mambo beach and even free standard beds at Madero, you can pick up beach towels each morning which you can turn in that evening or exchange for fresh ones the next morning, free parking for your car and we got a very good deal on the diving masks which they either sell or rent to guests and were allowed to test in the sea before deciding to buy them or not
Two bedrooms either side of an ample bathroom. Spacious living / dining area with well-equipped open plan kitchen (not that we used it). Lots of cupboards everywhere. Nice balcony with chairs as well as a comfy bean bag.
Breakfast was a few minutes walk to the beach restaurant of another hotel. Very pleasant buffet, with enough choice. Long queues though, during Valentine’s weekend!
Apartments situated within walking distance of fairly new Mambo Boulevard, with various restaurants and shops.

The photos of web site do not do this resort justice. I loved the open air lobby w/swings and loads of tables and chairs to hang out. This resort is in a beautiful cove with clean water and sandy beach. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Pool restaurant has great food (ahi tuna was great) The sushi restaurant is also very good. Breakfast was also good, Loved the homemade granola. Aside from the amazing space and location is the incredibly friendly staff.
First, this hotel is beautiful. the rooms are modern, clean and ‘fresh’, the pool area is spacious with lots of deck chairs (seemingly enough for everyone) and lots of little corners and nooks in the pool itself.
The beach is lovely and though the water is a bit rough we were still easily able to do some fairly decent snorkeling right in front of the hotel! Nice sand and no vendors on the beach.
This hotel is beautiful. The beach is fantastic. There is a great reef right off the hotel. You have to bring your snorkel, you can see as many fish off this beach as anywhere in Curacao. The pools are great as well. The rooms are redesigned and really nice.
If you are going to Curacao, you should look into staying at the Marriott. It has been recently renovated and it is gorgeous. Open and airy lobby, two huge pools, a great natural beach, nice and modern rooms, and relatively close to downtown.
What makes this hotel above the rest is the service. The entire staff was well trained and helpful.
The resort is gorgeous! All open to the beautiful ocean breezes. Pools are huge with lots of nooks and crannies to find your own spot. Beach is so pretty and great for watching the sun set every night. The most amazing thing about this hotel is the staff. Every single employee turned themselves wrong side out to be helpful. Super friendly (they all knew our names and were giving us hugs by the end of the first day), helpful, kind and upbeat.
I had booked an Oceanfront room which was situated in the West Wing of the hotel and had a wonderful view on the Caribbean Sea. I enjoyed the sunsets every evening. The bright and modern corner room was spacious with a comfortable king bed and had all amenities like a Nespresso machine and very large flat screen. The bathroom was special because it also included an open closet for clothes. Housekeeping, however, was only on demand due to Covid-19. All employees were also obliged to wear a mask.
The hotel has three restaurants of which Spice was only open for breakfast. In the lobby the Zala Gastro Bar was open for dinner. The menu had two sections, a limited choice of general dishes with an oriental flavor and a sushi menu with an excellent choice. I loved the sushi while also enjoying a good glass of Pinot Grigio. Service was impeccable.
