York is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. We’ve just returned from spending two nights at Gregory’s Guest House. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel right at home by Bev & Martin, nothing is too much trouble for them and they know EVERYTHING there is to know about the area and places to visit in York. The room was lovely with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Parking was easy on the street with a permit given to you on arrival.

In some places as a married gay couple we can sense some atmosphere but we were made to feel so welcome at Gregory’s.

York is only a 10-15 minute walk either along the street past plenty of restaurants or along the river. You end up at Clifford’s Castle, 5 minutes walk to the Shambles.

We’ll definitely be returning to this beautiful guest house with it’s fantastic owners, it honestly was a perfect stay. Thanks Bev & Martin.

My partner and I stayed here for Valentines weekend and absolutely loved it. Bev and Martin were really welcoming and friendly, even surprising us with a little present in our room on Valentines Day! The breakfasts were really tasty, the coffee came in a cafetiere and the local meat and eggs were cooked really well.

The fact we are a lesbian couple did not faze them whatsoever, unlike some other bed and breakfasts we have stayed in before. The location was really nice, there’s a pleasant walk along the river to the city centre and the Indian restaurant next door (Bay of Bengal) is worth a visit and cheap if you take your own drinks. If we visit York again we will be certain to stay here again. Thank you for helping to make our weekend so special.

My boyfriend and I decided to book with Gregory’s after seeing so many positive reviews on this website. The only problem with the reviews, is that they do not fully do justice to this wonderful guesthouse! From the very first phone call when we booked, we found the owners to be warm, friendly people. On entering the guest house, this impression was further consolidated.

We were greeted by one of the owners, Martin who showed us to our room offering to carry our luggage (which, was no small feet considering how heavy our luggage was!) he then took us to our double en-suite room and advised us on how to get to the city centre and what there was to see in york (a beautiful city!) The other owner Beverly came later in the afternoon to apologize for not being able to greet us (just one example of hundreds of the kindness and welcoming nature of the owners.) Our room was a good size and the en-suite was also a nice size. The room had some lovely welcoming touches like biscuits and a chilled bottle of wine.

Breakfast in the morning was fantastic. All the ingredients were fresh and sourced locally. And there was a wide variety to choose from. And every morning the owners would come and have a wee chat, which made us feel even more welcome and comfortable were that possible. The room was cleaned to a high standard each day and it was obvious to see a lot of hard work went into it.

The guest house is about a 15 min walk from the city centre which for us being a young couple, was no problem. You could either take in the picturesque view along the river or head through the village which was a slightly shorter journey. If however your not really in a state to be walking back to the guest house then the taxis are cheap at about £4 to get into the centre. York is a gorgeous city with plenty to do and a really quaint English atmosphere. Some must do’s while your there, are the minster (only go up the tower if you have a good pair of legs on you!), Betty’s tea rooms (again very quaint and english) a walk through the shambles, a drink in RedEye lounge- the cocktails are lethal and a meal in Bella Italia, a very good Italian.

Overall we were extremely happy with Gregory’s Martin and Bev really exceeded our expectations and made us feel very welcome and comfortable in their home. As a gay couple we are sometimes made to feel awkward by the attitudes of certain owners, but this was not the case with Martin and Bev- they treated us as if we were their friends and by the end of our 10 night stay we were very sad to leave them. We would definitely go back and in fact we hope to return this Christmas.

I really can’t say enough for the amount of hard work and dedication Martin and Bev put into Gregory’s it is exceptional and clear to see how much they love doing what they do. So again a huge thanks to them for making our stay so enjoyable.

The Gourmet Bar serves a range of dishes as well as light snacks and a sumptuous afternoon tea. There is a spacious outdoor terrace area and 24-hour room service for guests to enjoy.

The hotel is conveniently located, being only a short drive into York from the surrounding road network (with its own open air and spacious car park) and a 10 minute walk from the old city centre. The staff were remarkably friendly and helpful throughout my stay.

A spacious, clean, and atmospheric hotel, with friendly staff, a bar that’s open until midnight but then you can still carry on drinking if you wish after this time with reception service.

Novotel is about a 5 minute walk into York city centre and for the reasonable price per room it’s a gift horse being this close to town without actually being in the town itself and paying the higher prices.

Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and views of the river. Room service was not being done unless specifically requested, although fresh towels and refills of toiletries & tea/coffee, sugar, etc, could be requested at reception. The bathroom had a lovely shower and was well designed with a mirrored door that separated the toilet area from the main bathroom allowing someone to use the toilet whilst the bathroom was also in use.

The breakfast needed to be pre-ordered the night before and consisted of a “continental pack-up” with a hot selection being made fresh for your chosen time.

e. The location was perfect for a city break in York, the hotel is a 5 min walk from the centre where you have a choice of great bars and restaurants, visiting the museums or the castle and city walls. The hotel is set slightly back from the main road so while you are so close to the centre, you are still in a very quiet area.

The hotel has a beautiful bar and restaurant area and although we did not try the food, we did have a late night desert which we took up to our room when we got back to the hotel and the deserts were delicious.

The hotel also has a pool with a special hour during the day where it is adults only so great for couples

ALL the staff are super friendly and helpful so can not ask for a better experience. The only thing I can say is that at check in / check out time the reception does get very busy but even then the staff are quick to get more people on reception and to check people in while waiting in the queue using tablets so very well managed.

My partner and I have always said that we want to come back for another short break.

With the finest location in the city, overlooking York Minster. All York’s famous attractions are within walking distance. The hotel recently received a Certificate of Excellence. A contemporary design, with emphasis on elegance and comfort. Rooms are well-equipped and individually styled. Superior, De-Luxe and our 2 Suites have fabulous architectural views of historic York. As regular visitors to York we haven’t found a bad accommodation yet but may just have found the best we’ve used. Dean Court is located literally over the road from York Minster and we were delighted to be upgraded to a room with a view of this magnificent building. Location wise this hotel is perfect, 10 minutes walk into the centre of York with a good selection of bars and restaurants within a view of the hotel.

We requested an early check in (1100) and this was accommodated no problem. The room, a deluxe queen, was very clean and comfortable with a huge comfy bed and a good selection of pillows available.

Perfect location for a one night stay, right next to York Minster and only yards from the narrow streets including The Shambles.

The standard double room was more than adequate and very clean with an equally large bathroom and powerful shower.

The roadside bedroom did have an amount of noise from outside early morning so maybe not perfect for anyone hoping to have a lie in.

he room, although compact was comfortable and had everything we needed. Each member of staff that we had dealings with was professional and friendly. We were particularly impressed by the porters and valets who always had a cheery smile despite a heavy workload. We thought that the £20 per day parking fare was reasonable as it made the journey to the hotel hassle free with the valet service. Parking in York is always fairly expensive anyway.

Breakfast was delicious with multiple choices and excellent service. Restaurant and bar prices are very competitive and the food excellent quality. The position of the hotel was also excellent. We had lovely views of York Minster during breakfast and the Shambles and shopping/tourist areas were all just a few minutes walk away. We loved our 2 night stay and will definitely be back. Thank you to each and every one of you.
