Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Zell am See Austria

Zell am See is an Austrian town on Lake Zell, south of the city of Salzburg. Its Romanesque St. Hippolyte Church has a distinctive tower added in the 15th century. Trails and lifts lead to the ski slopes of Schmittenhöhe mountain and leads to a few gay friendly hotels Zell am See. Southwest, views from Gipfelwelt 3000 panoramic platform, at the top of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, take in Hohe Tauern National Park and the looming Grossglockner mountain.

Gay Ski Pride in Kaprun  is a peaceful march of LGBT people and their relatives and friends, which combines social and political protest with entertainment such as live concerts. It takes place every year in the month of November, one of the main destination of Austria. There are more than 96 daily flights from various cities of Europe to Vienna  if you want to attend the parade.

What are the top attractions to visit in Zee am See?

Zell am See is extremely picturesque as is Hallstatt. There are plenty of outdoor activities to recommend either one. We have been to Hallstatt numerous times and never tire of the beautiful surroundings.

Great location: just 5 minutes walk from cityXpress Cable car, inside the historic center, near all bars, restaurants, and the lake of course!
– Excellent breakfast: nice selection, good quality, great service, huge breakfast sitting area (props to Roberta and the very nice lady making our omelettes)
– Very nice rooms: ours was a bit on the small side for 2 persons (and that was my only letdown) and the shower cabin was a bit too tight. Other than that, no complaints can be made. Room was serviced daily, beds were comfy, heating was adjustable, windows could recline, everything was functional and handy.

From the moment of arriving, when we were greeted in the lovely reception by a warm fire and a glass of Champagne, we were treated brilliantly by all the staff. Their service throughout the week we were there was fantastic – reception staff, bar staff, restaurant staff and cleaners were all friendly and happy to help.

The room was lovely and much more spacious than we’ve had in previous alpine hotels for similar money. It was warm, well equipped and spacious. The facilities in the hotel were also excellent – the boot room was more than adequate, the pool area is great after a day on the slopes, and the bar has a really homely feel to it with afternoon tea served at 4 which was perfect when getting back from skiing.

The food is possibly the best attribute of the hotel; as one of us was vegetarian, we were a little bit concerned about how well they might be catered for and had expected to eat out a few nights. How wrong we were! We ate in every night and the food was outstanding; plenty of choice for us both and more than suited our needs. Breakfast was also great and every morning there was the menu for the evening on your table, and also a leaflet with the weather forecast and things to do on which was a nice read.

Finally, for location, the hotel is perfect. It’s close to the centre of Zell am See, but only a 5 minute walk (even in ski boots) to the nearest gondola and even less to the ski bus stop to head to Kaprun or to Saalbach. However, if the walk wasn’t something you fancied, the hotel provides a shuttle bus to take you and your equipment up to the Xpress Gondola.

Our room was a superior double room with a balcony view of the mountains behind the hotel. The room was large with ample wardrobe space and a large double bed. The room was also exceptionally clean. Elemis shampoo, shower gel and body lotion were provided in the bathroom and the mini bar was stocked with wine and snacks. The room safe and WiFi were free to use.

For dining, we upgraded to the half board option as it was only an additional €15 per person per night and consisted of a 4 course menu. We were assigned a table in the restaurant for the duration of our stay meaning that we could arrive to eat whenever we liked for breakfast and dinner, and that our server was the same for each meal. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide range of fruits, meats, breads, spreads, juices and smoothies. There was also a lovely lady serving hot breakfast food who was happy to cook eggs fresh in front of you. For dinner, the quality of the food was absolutely superb. Each night, the menu was different and the variety of options catered to most tastes. The first course was a fresh salad buffet and bread— the selection was vast and delicious. The meats on the main courses were particularly outstanding and we were impressed each night by the chef’s excellent dishes.

The hotel location is perfect, just a 2 minute walk from the centre of Zell and the lake. There is absolutely no noise around the hotel and parking is ample for guests.

The hotel spa facilities were generally very good. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the spa and the swimming pool and the selection of teas/snacks. The only minor issue we found with the spa was the fitness suite which was quite small and in need of air conditioning. The room is underground and therefore quite a hot room to be working out in.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. The staff, the rooms, the restaurant and the spa are all exceptionally high quality and it is absolutely worth a visit.

Finally, Zell am See offers a quite lively apres ski gay bar scene and a very nice selection of restaurants (local, international, vegetarian).

We loved the location , decoration and the service . The restaurant is really unbelievably tasty and healthy .

The rooms are very recently decorated and fantastically modern . This also makes that historical hotel unique.

There is a little distance to centrum of Zell am See but after you get there – distance does not matter. Building is nice and views over the lake to centrum and alpes are awesome. Crew is very helpful and friendly, breakfast and dinner cuisines were at least 4+. Rooms were clean and nice – plus as a Finnish guests we got a room with a sauna 🙂

Hotel had also a shuttle service to skibus/to ski rental place – Local Bus/skibus served also few times per day directly to hotel. Taxi Price to/from central-hotel appr. 15-20€ IF needed. There was good lockerroom for skies and nice spa/sauna department for free to use.

Hotel is in the opposite side of the lake to the town of Zell am See, called Thumersbach. If you enjoy the ultimate silence and less crowd, this is your place. This is a 4 star Superior hotel. We’ve stayed in lake view rooms where scenery is stunning. Rooms are very comfortable and minimalistic which I appreciate. Hair dryer is available in bathrooms but no make up removal pads or hygiene bags. Very spacious wardrobe arrangement saved us from fighting for space to our clothes 🙂 Parking spaces are plenty and easy reach too. All personnel is kind and helpful.

There was a live music night in the hotel restaurant which was very enjoyable!

The hotel itself is very smart and modern- elegant. New, spacy and very well equipped and organized rooms. The price of the rooms is definitely worthy even only for a food- really gourmet with a perfect presentation. Beach is lovely, not big but for a hotel capacity really enough, calm with a lot of sun and privacy. Free rental of paddle boards is nice, the other facility for small surcharge. Excellent surroundings with lot of fun and adrenalin for everybody. Very Polite and professional service.

The lido on the beach can be used free of charge by hotel guests.

In the morning a rich breakfast buffet is served.

Guests can make use of the extensive beauty and wellness area of the Romantikhotel, Hotel Fischerwirt partner hotel across the street (at an extra cost).

Hotel Fischerwirt at Zell am See Directly in the centre of Zell am See, only a few steps to the lake! You have only to walk two minutes to the lake an five minutes to the cable car. Enjoy your day or visit the busy street in the front of the hotel were you will find the cafes- restaurants, bars and shops. The starting point for different walks-hiking- tours and excursions. For the balance of body and soul we recommend a visit in our head house the “Romantikhotel Metzgerwirt”

The hotel could not be more central, which is great. And the option to leave your skis and boots at the Sports2000 at the bus station, again a big plus plus.

The hotel is full of Austrian charm, well appointed (including a very good ski room) and immaculately clean. The food is of the highest standard and plentiful. Location is central Zell am See, front facing room with superb balcony views of Mountains, Lake Zell and Grand Hotel.

The hotel is small, cosy and well maintained. Due to it being so, the hosts & staff get to know you better, making a much more personal experience whilst staying there. The food was very good, breakfast consisted of bread, cheese, cold meats, cereal, yogurt, boiled eggs, scramble eggs, sausages, bacon, croissants, cakes etc. You picked your choice of evening meal at breakfast from either a meat, fish of veggie main course.

The rooms were on the small side but very clean, beds very comfortable, bathrooms spotless and there was a nice terrace balcony where you could sit and people watch. The hotel is situated a couple of minutes walk from the stunning lake. There are a couple of bars either end of the small road where the hotel sits, which meant that it was quite noisy at night after midnight till the early hours.

Breakfast was a buffet each morning with plenty of options and dinner was an option of three meals, meat, fish and vegetarian each evening which was chosen each morning at breakfast. The hotel provides a mini pamphlet each morning with breakfast with a little info and random facts/weather/recipes in there which was a lovely addition. They also have afternoon cake from around 3/4pm which is a nice addition if back from the slopes early.

Our room was as expected in Austria, very clean with good housekeeping and the only negative was that it was a bit on the small side with not quite enough storage but this wasn’t a big issue.

The location was great for the City Express lift and also right in the heart of town so lots of places to go right on the doorstep and also only a short walk down to the beautiful lake.

The staff really make this hotel, the front of house and also the bar man were such characters and really interesting to talk with. From the serving staff to the housekeeping, everyone was happy and smiley the whole week.
