What a wonderful and relaxing place to stay for a few days. The staff are so kind and helpful.
I’ve never had a place remember my name after just one visit but each time I come, they welcome me and it just feels like home.
The food is fantastic. Very affordable price.
The portions will definitely leave you feeling full and satisfied.
The pool is an awesome spot to chill with friends, listen to music, play some darts or badminton.. awesome all-around environment and I hear that even more amenities are coming soon!
Thank you for the warm welcome, Drift Inn Hotel and Hostel & The Aguada Restaurant! Can’t wait to stay again.
Why You Should NOT Book Drift Inn Cayo
We arrived on a Sunday late afternoon. Our room was clean but had no sheets.
We waited another hour for housekeeping to bring sheets. (We were coming back from Walking all over Tikal.
I looked like something the cat dragged in and just wanted a soft place to land.) Apparently the hotel had been busy the night before, which delayed housekeeping.
We ate at the restaurant and were the only diners. The food was ok. Excellent breadth of cable tv choices.

2. The Red Hut Inn 3* – Pet Friendly Hotels Belize City
Just 100 m from Belize City’s seafront, The Red Hut Inn features a terrace and simple accommodation with free Wi-Fi.
It has easy access to the Northern Highway and is less than 3.5 km from the city centre.
Each air-conditioned suite has a sofa, a refrigerator, cable TV, free WiFi and
a private bathroom
Guests can eat breakfast and dinner at Red Hut, which offers an on-site catering service with a wide range of Caribbean cuisine.
The hotel is also located only 3 km from a large supermarket and several restaurants.
This basic hotel near the Caribbean Sea is 5 km from the Museum of Belize and 6 km from the 19th-century St. John’s Cathedral. It’s 12 km from Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport.
Featuring sitting areas with sofas, the unpretentious rooms offer Wi-Fi access and cable TV.
There’s a terrace offering street views. Meals and electric bike rentals are available, as is limited parking.
Unless you are there on business, the national commercial capital is not a place where you want to spend much time as a tourist.
But Julie and Lewis will make your stay pleasant enough.
Besides, all the country’s tourist destinations are only a few hours away by air, land or water, so you can base yourself here throughout your visit or use it as your transit hub.
There are transportation services also to other Central American countries.
Within walking distance you will find a major supermarket, as well as banks, bars, restaurants, and stores.
It is worth noting that many domestic flights touch down at the nearby municipal airport, without extra charge.
Consequently you can save time and money on transfers by flying internally out from there and back, instead of through the international airport.
The Inn’s own pets are disciplined but one bark in the neighborhood, one passing stranger, or perhaps just one dog’s bored yapping, can set off a cacophony at any time of the day or night… the same as anywhere in Asia, Africa, Latin America, or the Caribbean.
I think it is weird and cruel to keep a large animal in an apartment; but at least the owners there clean up after them and I rarely hear the dogs bark.
The mediterranean restaurant I was directed to was a few blocks down along the dirt highway. There was a sidewalk but nothing much else. The restaurant was great.
Some of the review mentioned the harbor – largely why I chose Red Hut as it sounded like a fun place to explore – and the person at the hotel had given me a map so I went exploring.
To get to the harbor, you walk back along the highway for a bit (nothing to see, few shops or stores besides the grocery), then wind your way on narrow dirt roads through another neighborhood. Again, lots of dogs.
Almost everywhere I walked was deserted – the roads, the path along the harbor. It looked like the harbor hadn’t been used in years – there was a rusted-out boat and lots of debris.
We had a room in front of the terrace and at 5am in the morning there was a person cleaning and making noise, continuing after I opened the door and making gesture it was upsetting. At 7am they start serving breakfast and people were shouting and laughing, without considering there are people still sleeping, so maybe book a room in the rear part if you want to sleep.

The property’s restaurant serves local and international food. Activities at the Rumors Resort include karaoke nights.
We passed through San Ignacio the day before New Year’s with our dog.
Why You Should Book Rumors Resort Hotel
The hotel offers parking behind the building that feels quite secure.
Even better, our well-behaved dog was welcome without extra fees or hassle.
Food was good but seemed pricey for Belize. Pool looked nice, but we didn’t use it.
The people were great. We enjoyed their patience with us as we asked a lot of questions about the area and their culture.
We especially enjoyed Josh and Edwin.
The setting was perfect for us-it’s a bit out of town and we were thankful to have the freedom that comes with a rental car to run around on our own.
The pool overlooks the forest and was quiet and serene when we were there.
We ate at the hotel for several meals and enjoyed all meals. We did one excursion with Go Maya and that was conveniently arranged by the hotel.
We enjoyed the resident dog, Austin! If you’re looking for a fancy, 5 star hotel, keep looking.
If you like a more local experience and being well taken care of, I highly recommend rumors.
Why You Should NOT Book Rumors Resort Hotel
I unfortunately can’t recommend this place as it completely lacks any tender loving care. Everything seems to fall apart and the hotel surely has seen better times (eg ripped towels, broken chairs, torn curtains, chipped plates, dirty guest toilet, …).
We tried their breakfast and were more than disappointed – fruits on the plate weren’t fresh and the eggs seem to have been reheated.
Also, the pool is a hotspot for the locals (birthday parties!) and it thus gets super crowded on the weekends.
Water quality might be affected by the huge amount of toddlers.
